Overall a 3.5 star review for this visit. Pros: Ambiance and general feel of the restaurant is very welcoming and not overwhelming for a steakhouse. It is very laid back but also not cheap looking. Value. Cost for menu items including drink and dessert is affordable and good quality. Plating and presentation. The sizzling steak being delivered to tables is an eye catcher for sure. Makes you want yours asap. All items plated were welcoming and treats to the eyes. Cons: Overall the steak was just good. Flavor was good but not as tender as I would have expected. Disclaimer is we ordered the shared special which I have to assume is a lesser cut of meat. Service was again just good. They got the meal out but not the personal attentive staff you would expect from a nice steakhouse. Dessert and coffee is what helped push this to a 3.5 star for me. My wife and I went to a late night dinner at this restaurant after arriving in Florence. It was close to our hotel and looked very enticing. We started with Aperol Spritz's which were very good, and then moved on to wine and the main course. Our waiter, Marco, answered questions I had about the wine list and recommended a very good Sangiovese that was reasonably priced. My wife and I shared the Bistecca alla Fiorentina and roasted potatoes. The steak literally melted in our mouths and was the best steak we had ever had. The potatoes were a perfect blend of seasonings, crispy on the outside, yet perfect on the inside. We ended with an amazing dessert and two glasses of Grappa. After I was seated i perused the menu list and decided to have the filet with Aceto balsamico from Modena sauce and white beans. Accompanying that with half a bottle of red wine from the house. While I was waiting a waiter brought me a canapé consisting of bruschetta topped with minced meat mixed in olive oil. A great starter. Then my course came. The meat was cooked as ordered - in my case medium - and almost melted in my mouth. The meat with the sauce and the beans were a delight, but be aware that this dish is not everybody's shoes. Recommended by our hotel, and luckily they were able to make same day reservation (we are staying at Hotel Cavour). We were seated on time at 8pm and it was busy!! Full house. There was a line for walk ups, and we heard a 30 min wait. The food was really good. We got the 1.2 kg t-bone and it was massive. Too much for my husband and me, but a couple with larger appetites could finish it I think. We were close, but after an appetizer and bottle of wine no way we could. We also had the tortellini and mushroom crustini. Everything was delicious. My husband and I are not foodies by any means and this was our big dinner, in terms of price and amount of food. First off, my group was really looking forward to having dinner here as it was recommended, and there was a Yelp coupon for 20% off, BUT it was disappointing! The waiter presented himself in a way that was "just order please so I can move on" attitude. When questioned about the prix fixe meals buried on the back page of the menu, you could see that he lost interest as the big ticket dinner didn't happen. Told us our medium rare steak would come out on a sizzling hot slab, didn't happen, not hot, no sizzling, and our steak was warm at best. Waiter never came back to us to see how our meal was as he focused on the larger tourist tables. At the end of the meal, when I presented the coupon, it was like no one had seen it, and three different people came to our table to question it, but not our waiter. I was told I had to pay up front of the restaurant where they first told me the coupon was applied, not true as I questioned the bill, the woman behind the counter then said the coupon was not valid because we used the prix fixe meal. Even though this was not clearly stated or on the menu that she quickly waved at me, we ended up paying the full amount for an OK steak dinner. We had previously had dinner at a lesser known place and had a far superior Florentine steak for half the price worth much better service. Lesson learned, and I will not recommend this restaurant. Lovely experience in the heart of Florence. We ventured into this place randomly during lunch time and glad we made it here. Known for their Florentine steaks and truffle, this place has plenty to offer. As you enter, you see all the meats to your right and they keep truffles to your left in display. We got seated right away in the front in a cozy table: their restaurant is huge and quite spacious. We loved sitting in a comfortable location. They also had a 20% discount on yelp if you checked in which was awesome! Our sever didn't know about this as I am guessing not many people know about it, but she checked with her colleague and they confirmed it for us. What an absolute disgrace of a "Steak House". We made reservations for this steak house months ago, only to find that this restaurant was nothing compared to the great steak houses found in the US. Dinner was served by a group of young servers who had no idea how to serve a meal. Our steaks were deliver to us cold and were not served with sides that we ordered. 5.0 stars. When in Florence, you have got to try Bistecca alla Fiorentina. (Porterhouse steak - filet mignon and New York steak). This place T bone are 25 days dry age steak, serve with truffle cream, onion sauce and tomato sauce. Meat here is more lean than US prime beef, but favor is different. Since it has been dry aged, meat is very tender. This place excel in their grilling skills. They probably grills the TBone first, then cut out the meat, and bake, grill more and season the bone also. If you eat the bone, even that part is medium rare, same level as the meat. Usually meat near bone is too raw, but not here! There are many levels of steak all dry aged goes all the way to 400€/1kg. Bistecca alla Fiorentina dry age steak 1.2 kg. Served on hot plate. 58 € -5.0 Stars- excellent. No other words needed. Ok order one for each person. Bruschetta with mushroom and miso. Free.-4.5 Stars- tasted like minced meat! Yum. Pasta pomodoro 7.5€ -2.5 star- Should not order non-steak item in steak house. Tasted like regular American restaurants. Cover charge 2.5€ per head. Didn't really enjoy the other stuff that came with the fixed menu (the charcuterie, potatoes) but we got it because it was the most budget friendly option. The meat was okay, I liked the presentation, it feels very grand. However we ordered it rare and it was more medium / medium rare in places. Also wasn't as big as we were hoping. Mostly bone and large chunks of fat! Also very important that you ask for the SAUCE because it's a fun trio that adds flavor to an otherwise pretty plain steak. They don't particularly like Americans so if you go there, just be prepared. Our waitress was so offended by us that she wouldn't even make eye contact with us when we were ordering. She stood off to the side and stared at the front door as we gave her our order. She even rolled her eyes several times as we told her what we wanted. They did not cook the 80 euro steak anywhere close to how we wanted it and never came back to check on us until 30 minutes after they delivered our food. Whenever my family and I recall our trip to Italy, we always reminisce on this one restaurant that we visited before departing Florence and Italy in general. Today, it suddenly hit me as I was browsing through my reviews - that I'd never written a review for this place!! How could I!? Thankfully, the five-star service and delicious food remain fresh in my mind. We made a reservation through Fork, where we were able to receive the 20% discount (not available through Yelp at the time). And thank God we made a reservation - by the time we finished our meal, there was a massive line extending all the way out the door and into the streets! We decided to order the most famous steak in Florence - the bistecca alla fiorentina, known as the T-bone steak. If I recall correctly, it came with a side, and we opted for the potatoes. Frankly, I never even got around to tasting the potatoes as I was so full by that time! We also got a salad on the side (the insalata mista, zucchine grigliate, carciofi, prosciutto cotto e pomodorini). The salad was, unfortunately, overpriced and not worth its value. However, I was in dire need of greens at the time. The ham was an interesting addition, but I still happily consumed the bed of greens. We started off with two portions/bowls of simple mussels marinated in white wine and lemon. These were so fresh and good! The mussels, though simply prepared, had a subtle and amazing sweetness. We cleared the two plates in record time! And then... came the show-stopper. The main act. The steak! It came sizzling on a hot plate, served with three accompanying sauces. The steak also came pre-cut, designed for easy and efficient consumption. It was unbelievably tasty and rich. The steak honestly fell apart in the mouth, dissolving into buttery and fatty goodness. It was perfectly seared and had the ultimate crisp, rendering all the fats and juices flowing. It was the type of steak where you could eat it all and not feel stuffed or greasy at all! The cut was amazing, as was the technique. Not overcooked by any means, but perfectly executed. The T-bone left such a lasting impression that my sister ended up taking the bone to gnaw at the good bits inside the joints / bone curves. I drool thinking about it... We were so happy and content by the end of the meal that we chose to order two servings of tiramisu. The tiramisu was pudding-like and soft, and came served with a dark chocolate sauce on the side. It was heavenly and pillowy soft! Very sinfully creamy. The service was also phenomenal. While every Korean girl in the restaurant practically had a steak to themselves (I know that they were Korean because I could hear the language - it was also funny at the time as Koreans love and appreciate their beef!), we shared one T-bone among four of us. Although we would have received poor service in other areas, the servers at Trattoria dall'Oste treated us with courtesy and kindness! They even brought out sharing utensils and cleared our plates when finished. The meal was not at all expensive (given that most our meals in Italy tended to be overpriced), and with the 20% off, it was such a steal! The only small complaint we had was the $2.50 charged per person, but since we had just returned from Venice, where a massive tourist tax applies, it wasn't that bad. The steak had no seasoning. Even dipping in olive oil and salt, it was bland. We definitely had better steaks at Morton Steak House and Ruth Chris at cheaper prices. W also ordered mussels which were also just ok. They charge 12% table cover./ service charge, yet the service was very mediocre.
