    Florentine beef!
    Scott M.

Loved this place! The food was fantastic and the staff could not have been nicer! The lady taking care of my table was Sandra. She was beautiful. The starter was an incredible flan with truffles. My prime course was a Florentine steak! Incredible! I also had the cheesecake but forgot to get a good picture. I highly recommend this place!

it was really good!! i was recommended this restaurant because it had a more unique/different menu than the typical florence restaurant. the one unusual think is that they blasted the rasputin song

I am not sure I understand how this Florentine trattoria garners such rave reviews. It is right off Piazza Santa Maria Novella where we were staying so super convenient. Our hotel concierge, who was spot on with many recommendations, sent us here. It was just very average. The atmosphere is friendly and casual and the servers are certainly attentive. It is filled with both regulars and tourists alike. I expected it to be aore local and less touristy than it was. The house wine was decent but the food was for the most part nothing to write home about. We shared a salad and anchovy appetizer. Both were pedestrian at best. The highlight was the house pappardelle with wild boar ragu and that was really quite good. I get the sense that this place could be better than what we experienced but unfortunately it just didn't measure up to the high standards I expected based on other yelp reviews.

Wow! We enjoyed the artsy atmosphere and the delicious food , along with amazing service . Adalena was our server and did a wonderful job. Highly recommend!

Probably our best meal during our whole time in Florence! Colorful walls and portraits greeted us and we led to a small table in the dining room. We were disappointed to hear American accents at every table, but no need to worry - they had all picked a great place to dine. The citrus pasta is worth the calories! Our seafood dish (cod) was delicate and savory, and our dessert of whipped mascarpone was outstanding! Terrific wait staff too!

    Bolgheri wine- quite drinkable

I second the sentiment that I regret listening to the hotel concierge to steer us here. The food was subpar but worse, quite expensive. I had the saffron pasta with prawns as our primi and even though the prawns were perfectly cooked, the pasta was bland and had no salt in it whatsoever. Then I got the filet in green pepper sauce (their florentine steak is for 2 and is 75 euros) as a more reasonable option. It was "fine" but nothing great. The best part about the meal was the bolgheri wine (though was expensive for a bolgheri) and the chocolate souffle (which is a lava cake in America). It had nice flavor. However, at the end of the night, the total was 125 euros which was the second highest meal cost of the entire trip and I felt like I got totally ripped off. Later someone recommended Lungarno Bistrot which was what we wanted Gargani to be and at much better prices and better style. Although I do have to admire the unusual murals like the Darth Vader Shakyamuni Buddha or spider obelisk. Crazy!

Awesome spot. Food is on point I had the melanzane alla parmigiana appetizer and it was devine. Fair size for an antipasti. Then we experienced the bistecca alla diorentina per due persone which is a steak dinner for two people. Bone in, and huge. It is presented on a chopping block, very juicy. If you are trying to get away from the standard tourist location you gotta check this place out. Ohhh and they understand very English very well :). Need WiFi... ask for it.

    Bottarga spaghetti

We first visited this wonderful trattoria 7 years ago during our first time in Firenze. We had such a nice time that we remembered to go back and bring the family this time. We dined twice in 4 nights in Florence. With so many choices in this city that says a lot about the restaurant. It helped that it was easier to book dinner through the Quandoo app. We loved the Bistecca Fiorentina, but we came back a second time as we "discovered" the Carbonara the first evening. The kids all can't stop talking about it. Amazing! The other items we can highly recommend include the Bottarga spaghetti, del Garga salad, Veal with avocado and truffle oil. Make sure to leave some space for dessert - Tiramisu, Apple pie with mascarpone and the chocolate pie! Service was excellent too!

Not a huge tourist restaurant which is great. I was searching for Bisetecca alla Fiorentina without a reservation and they were happy to accommodate us. Other restaurants needed them but sometimes difficult when you're traveling without a phone. Service was great, wine was great, bistecca alla Fiorentina was cooked perfectly. I'd head here again when back in Firenze if I couldn't get to the other highly recommended restos.

    Garganelli with prawns and saffron

This is the original "Garga". And it is one of the best meals you'll have in Florence. Incredibly friendly service, and bold flavorful dishes. The veal and avocado dish with truffles originated here, not the "other Garga". The saffron pasta with prawns is outstanding. It isn't cheap, but a great experience and excellent food.

Ordered the eggplant appetizer (involtini di melanza) and it was okay. The tomato sauce was good but the spinach inside tasted like the wilted frozen stuff from the grocery store. We also ordered the Vegetariana and Diavola pizzas. The Vegetariana pizza was a bit dry (it doesn't have a sauce) and the vegetables over cooked and burned to some point. We didn't finish it. The Diavola is where things go from "meh" to awful. The crust wasn't fully cooked and fell apart in the center, but that could be overlooked. What cannot be overlooked is the spicy salami they used. My girlfriend got sick from eating a piece and said it tasted old. I tried a piece and my stomach immediately turned as the the taste of expired meat hit my tongue. I bit into another piece for good measure and the same case. I absolutely love pizza and I can honestly say this is the absolute worst pizza that I have ever had in my life. We ordered 2 pizzas and left more than 1 and 1/2 pizzas on the table. I hate wasting food and I have never left pizza behind to get thrown out. I'm beyond disappointed that a pizza restaurant in Italy could mess up pizza so badly. Also, a FYI they charge a "coperto" which is a 2€ cover charge to eat at the restaurant.

Happy to say this place is still just as amazing as I remember it almost 10 years ago!…read more A couple of girlfriends and I discovered Pensavo Peggio during our first trip to Italy in 2017, and it quickly became one of the reasons Florence became one of my favorite cities. Back then, I ordered the Osso Buco, Lasagna, and Tiramisu--and I still remembered how incredible everything was. So, of course, when I returned nearly 10 years later, I had to order the same meals... and yes, I said meals! Fabrizio, the same server who took care of me in 2017, asked, "Are you sure you want two dinners?" I told him, "Yes! I want to try them both." Fast-forward to 2026: I walked back in two days ago, reminded Fabrizio of our conversation, and told him I was ordering both again. He immediately started laughing. Some things never change! My boyfriend ordered the pappardelle and instantly fell in love with it. We also shared a delicious cheese and meat platter and, of course, finished with Tiramisu. Nearly 10 years later, Pensavo Peggio still holds a special place in my heart. Highly recommend this cute little spot! It just goes to show that sometimes the best memories--and the best meals--are found when you venture off the beaten path. Some places are simply worth coming back to.

High points were the complimentary bread "box", the mixed drinks, the seafood puffed rice "lollipop", the risotto, and of course the amazing desserts.
