I cannot beam about this restaurant enough, and I would give over 5 stars if I could. I have a tree nut allergy, and our first lunch in Florence was at Trattoria La Madia with Ryan as our server. He reassured me that what I ordered would be free of my allergens, and each time we dined here (yes, we dined here three times during our two days in Florence), my food was free of tree nuts. Ryan made our experience a million times better. He was detailed, kind, and patient as I navigated the menu with my allergy. He replaced dirty napkins as my partner ate a Florentine steak, and he ended up knowing us my first name by our last day. I am eternally grateful for Ryan and the attention to my allergy he assured and that the restaurant provided. I wish we could dine here everyday, but truly our experience here made our trip more magical. I also have to highlight that we went to Venice, Florence, and Rome during our trip and the pizza at Trattoria La Madia was THE BEST of all the places we dined at. Tucked away in Florence, this small Italian restaurant was exactly what we were hoping to find--authentic, welcoming, and absolutely delicious. We were looking for something a bit lighter and ordered the salted, crusted sea bass, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. It felt like a dish made with true care and tradition. Our kids went for the classics--carbonara and gnocchi--and both were fantastic. You could really taste the freshness of the ingredients and the attention to detail in every bite. One of the things that impressed us most was the service. Not only was the staff warm and attentive, but they were incredibly thoughtful with our daughter's food allergies. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more in Florence! Smaller restaurant near where we were staying, so we waited until our last night to eat here and I wish we didn't wait so long. The service was amazing, our servers were very attentive and genuinely wanted us to have a great meal, Malik and another server I wish I caught the name of. We had the lasagna which was the perfect balance of everything. This place is super affordable in addition to everything else. Only got a picture of the mixed salad which was super fresh. read more

Stumbled upon this place and ended up having on of my favorite meals in Florence. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese and it was a hearty sauce with a great flavor of nutmeg. My wife ordered the pizza diavola and was the best pizza we've had in Florence too! We went kind of early at 6 pm and there were not very many people there yet so I'm not sure if it gets crowded later, but this place was excellent. Best part of Florence honestly is finding these types of restaurants when exploring around the city. read more

My daughter is studying in Florence. She had already been her and took us there. The staff and owners, plus the food were awesome. Once the waitress heard my daughter was going to school there, she told my daughter you come back anytime and we will treat you like family while you are away from your family. The best part was she truly meant it. Great people, great food and great price! read more

Walking around late last night and stopped by this restaurant for dinner because it looked cute and they had a good looking seafood display. Took the server's suggestions and it was the right choice. Excellent octopus salad - the octopus was super tender and flavorful. The shellfish pasta with lobster was excellent. The sauce was light but very flavorful and not creamy/heavy and the lobster was incredibly sweet. The staff was incredibly friendly. We will definitely come back. read more

Looking for someplace near where we were staying and I found this on Yelp. I had the seafood special (sea bass that day) and it was one of the best meals I had in Italy. My companions had pizza and veal and they were all excellent. Danielle, our server, was upbeat and helpful. When we returned later in the trip, we learned about her adventures in America! This place has a more authentic feel than most restaurants this close to the main tourist centers. After 2 dinners we felt like family. read more

This place is amazing. Stumbled in here early in the morning. The man working was so nice and quickly made us coffee, which was the best coffee we'd had so far in Italy. The pastries were great. So great we came back again later (twice) for antipasto and more coffee. Really accessible menu too for us Americans (lol). The best part is the prices -- we got a croissant for 1 euro. Wish I could spend every day just sitting out here. read more

We visited after a cart tour through the city without reservation and decided for mains only with a bottle of wine. One Margherita, one Pici Cacio e Pepe and a Filetto al Pepe plus a bottle of Chianti Classico Reserva later we were very satisfied. Overall a very decent meal with very attentive staff plus a nice setting. read more

Amazing! Wonderful food, and service; everyone here is very nice. This is the place where i didnt enjoy too much. This service is great,but the lobster pasta i ordered was really... Not fresh... And i can smell something bad as soon as it was placed in front of me. The lobster pasta was recommended by the waiter and said it was todays special... I decided to not proceed to eat aftet sevral slurps because i am afraid of getting sick from this seafood, it just smells sososo bad... It costs me 25 euros Also the service fee ( called coperto, i think is charged by all restaurants here) is 2.5 euros where others can be 2 euros But the table next to me ordered other food, and seems they had a very experience, so just be careful when you order lobster pasta read more

Holy wow. What a delicious meal. My old man walked by this place during the day and grabbed one of their cards. We went back later in the evening for dinner. Nice work, dad! The meal was A+! Fresh catch of the day was Sea Brim and Sea Bass. We ordered both, baked with veggies. They serve and debone it right at the table. We also ordered the waiter's choice. He opted for fresh pasta with half lobster and mussels and clams and light oil and tomato accoutrement. Amazing! They start the meal out with a dish of fresh bruschetta on the house. I highly recommend this place. Most def. The staff is very nice and welcoming. Get a bottle of wine and enjoy. Buon appetito! read more

Excellent service! The host was wonderful, explained to my mom that most of the restaurants near the Duomo do charge coperto or cover charge. This place had a smaller cover charge than others in the area and the host brought over some bruschetta, free of charge, to soften the blow and even continued to check on us during our meal. Exemplary service, sir! My dad got the veal scallopini, I had the polenta with squid, and mom had the sausage with beans. Ravenous from walking around all day, we dug in instantly and shared from each others dish. The veal and the sausage were very tender, my polenta was buttery but the squid just a little too chewy for my liking but I think that's par for the course in the Italian way of cooking. I can't say this place was locals only, because again, it's very close to the Duomo but you could do much worse and spend a lot more for less in the same area. read more

AMANZING Their spinach and cheese ravioli was absolutely amazing. Their spaghetti is also very good, and their pizza. Its in a great location, not too far from the train station and in a good area. The service is not the best because there is one or two waiters however they do come around enough. They have limited dessert, but their tiramisu is amazing. CHEAP. This restaurant, so far, has been the highlight of our trip. I'm so sad we didn't get our server's name, she was Amazing! We celebrated my husband's birthday and we split the specials...one was the lobster pasta and the other was sea bass with vegetables! Soooo delicious!!! We also enjoyed an amazing bottle of wine, picture is attached! We walked around to find the perfect place, and we sure found it!!! On a side note, our 6 year old had the pasta Alfredo and our son the ravioli, both were fabulous! It was a perfect night in Firenze!!! read more

Amazing!! The bread was superb! Just dip it in some olive oil, balsamic, salt and pepper and you're set! I got the pesto gnocchi with Parmesan and it was absolutely delicious!! The food also came out really fast so that was great after a big day of traveling. Our server was the best! She was really attentive and gave great suggestions. They also take visa which was great because we hadn't exchanged any money yet. Would absolutely recommend! read more

When we arrived we thought they were closed, but that is because they moved to a bigger restaurant a few doors down. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

ALL of us loved their food! So much so that my Dad insisted we go there again the next day. Later in the trip we were looking for pizza since gustapizza didn't work out and their pizza was also amazing! Fair prices, excellent food, in a tourist area, in Italy???? Never heard of her until now! Besides the different pizzas, I had the Cinghale which was incredible! The Lasagna also fabulous and the spaghetti for my picky daughter.
