There is a small finely decorred bar tucked discreetly in the back of the restaurant where you can enjoy one of many expertly crafted cocktails or you can just get a table and get down to business, and in an Italian restaurant, that business is eating!! I enjoyed a smoky Bourbon Old Fashion with a tastily prepared arancini appetizer. The rice balls were crispy on the outside and deliciously cheesy on the inside!! Not one, or two but Six came with appetizer, like I said, we were there to eat!! Tempted by the creative menu and the numerous seafood dishes, we opted to keep it old school, chicken cutlet parmigiana!!! A massive cutlet covered with love and a thick layer of oozing hot parmigiana. Fantastic! The cutlets came with a rustic bowl of penne in a tantalizing blush sauce and kissed with some yummy cheese shavings. Completely full, I was unable to explore dessert but I happily managed to cleanse my palette with a complimentary shot of homemade lemoncello which was like a goodbye hug from a staff that was welcoming and attentive throughout our meal. My parents and I took a trip to Trattoria La Tavola prior to the annual Christmas parade in Kennett Square. This is a beautiful and unique, earthy and classy space with ample seating. Our waiter was kind and attentive, which was impressive given the obvious crowds during an especially busy day. We ordered some bruschetta to start, which is divine with the a nice bite of cheese and sweet tomatoes. We also ordered some mushroom soup, a staple of Kennett Square, which was SO good. This might've been the highlight for me. It was rich and flavorful without being heavy. For my entree, I ordered the seafood pasta special, which was gorgeous and colorful with shrimp, clams, and mussels in a lobster cream sauce. It was creamy and the fish was very fresh. I didn't pay this time, but it was a bit on the pricier end with entrees ranging from $25-$35. I really loved it here. read more

A group of us had reservations on third Thursday in Kennett Square. It was also Kennetts celebration of America's 250th birthday. While our server was very nice, and helpful, it took an hour and a half to get our food. I'm sure the kitchen was overwhelmed but still. By the time we were finished they were taking tables off the street to close it down. The appetizers were very good. My meal was so so. It was the seafood pasta special. The langostinos were over cooked and my ravioli was luke warm. I may try again but never on third Thursday. read more

Our first visit. My husband and I just moved to Pennsylvania and we were close to Kennett square today and decided to try this wonderful restaurant. We were greeted by Clevia who was our warm and welcoming server. He seated us by the charming front window facing State Street. (Table 1). We enjoyed delicious house-made Italian bread with a lovely dipping of balsamic, olive oil and herbs. We shared the delicious Prosciutto and Arugula pizza, and Fig and Prosciutto salad. Came here before visiting Longwood Gardens for their Christmas display. The restaurant was cute and decorated for Christmas! There was lots of room and we were sat by the front window. The drinks were very good! We ordered the olives and they were great. Everyone in our party started with the Caesar salad which was very good! Personally I hate the eggplant parm and it was very tasty. Could've been a bit crispier but flavor was on point. They had gluten free pasta as someone from our party cannot eat gluten and it was a solid pasta. We ordered a seafood pasta special and the scallops were rubbery and overcooked. We ordered a risotto dish and it was fine. And we also ordered a ravioli dish which came out lukewarm. Overall the food was mid but the drinks were good and we enjoyed our waiter. Patio seating along the street in lovely Kennett Square offers people watching and a nice breeze while you eat. We shared a mushroom appetizer which was pretty good. My friend ordered mushroom sausage pizza and loved it. I had the Cavatelli Baveta (Asparagus / eggplant / peas / mascarpone / hazelnuts / shaved parmigiano). I thought the pasta was a bit a dente and I would, of course, add mushrooms! Excellent cappuccino! Busy waitstaff got a bit overwhelmed when a thunderstorm sent us inside. read more

The last time we came here it was amazing, but this time it missed the mark! We made reservations for dinner and arrived early. The older gentleman said that's fine. He seated us, and was also our waiter. He offered to open our bottle of wine and told us the specials. However, it would be nice to see the specials in writing. It was hard to understand everything he was saying, and also remember everything. We ordered two appetizers: the Mixed olives and the Tuscan style bruschetta. The olives were just okay but the bruschetta was the best thing we ate here! The whipped bruschetta with the balsamic and tomatoes, and the bread so soft... For dinner we ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Bocconcini. The Spaghetti Carbonara tasted very lemony and not very cheesy for a dish that supposed to have two kinds of cheese. Then the Bocconcini- it had several pieces of shrimp that were good, but the pasta was not cooked all the way and was hard and chewy. We decided to split the lemon cake and it was just okay. Loved the BYOB here and easy to make reservations. Parking was just around the corner in the garage. Service was just okay. It was a long wait for food, that wasn't even cooked properly. We dined here on a busy Thursday night. We could have dined outside but chose indoors instead. We were promptly seated by friendly staff. The menu had a great selection and there were daily specials. It was for my sister's in law birthday. We had reservations today at 7 PM. Beautiful evening for dining under the stars on a Thursday night. Arrived at 7 PM and we had to wait for 20 minutes before getting seated. Okay! Whatever! The street was closed off for other restaurants as well so people can enjoy the wonderful weather. But my GOOD GOLLY GRACIOUS... Service was horrendous (to put it in a nice way)! Took forever for someone to come by to check on us. And to add salt to the wound, it was like that throughout our entire time there. No water. NO NOTHING! We asked different busboys to bring a bucket of ice (to put the wine bottles in) and no one did nothing for the next 45 minutes after getting seated. Finally, after sitting there for an hour, our waitress finally introduced herself. She apologize. I was over it by then. Then again, it wasn't my event so I didn't want to be the person who was very negative. But in all honesty, it was definitely a letdown. She took our orders. More time for us to get our food. From appetizers to entrées. They food, itself, was pretty decent. But for the amount of time for us to receive it, it was not worth it. By the time I receive my entrée, it was wrong. I've ordered the lobster ravioli but received a cheese ravioli instead. It was very cold... tasted like they took it out of the fridge and warmed it up in the microwave. If you look at my picture, you could tell that it was not a lobster ravioli. I don't know want to complain because it took forever for everything to get to our table. Just dealt with what I have. Would I like to come back here? ABSOLUTELY NOT nor do I recommend anyone to come here because this service was the worst that I've ever had and that's putting it in the nicest way possible. The ambiance at Trattoria La Tavola was great--we really enjoyed sitting outside along the street, and the drinks were perfect. Unfortunately, everything after that was downhill. The chicken parm was dried out and chewy, the rigatoni with vodka sauce was something I'd honestly expect to find at Olive Garden (and better there), and the margherita pizza was more like a round garlic bread with dollops of sauce instead of a proper pizza with fresh mozzarella. The regular cheese ravioli even tasted like the lobster ravioli, not because they were the same, but because they clearly cook them all in the same water. Overall, we left disappointed. Next time we're in Kennett, we'll be trying one of the other Italian restaurants in town. read more

We were there about 5:30 on a Tuesday night. Very quiet but it got pretty busy before we left around seven. The food was delicious. The Caesar salad was one of the best I've had! The dressing was creamy but not heavy. Our main Waiter was Mark and he was great! The others took their time to also check on us. We bought a bottle of Pinot Noir and just overall great experience. Location and atmosphere was nice and so was the young man who seated us. The problem was with the lamb shank. It arrived cold and I asked for it to be reheated. When it came back a portion of it was heated but another bite and I found another cold spot. Additionally the sauce that accompanied the dish was of the jarred variety. For a 38.00 dish it was really disappointing. Listen, some dishes they serve may be good but the lamb shank wasn't. Also the waiter never returned to our table to ask if we wanted any more drinks. Trattoria La Tavola is relatively new to the area, so my family decided to get dinner here on New Years Eve. We were seated promptly, although there were some minor hiccups in service (more on that later). Ambiance is nothing special, just your typical Italian restaurant. We started with the fried calamari and the artichokes. The calamari was perfectly crispy and came with a large portion, plenty to share! The artichoke stole the show, however. The feta cheese and truffle oil gave this dish so much flavor. We liked it so much that we decided to order a second portion! When our entrees started coming out, four out of our five dishes arrived. We couldn't tell if they forgot to put the fifth entree in, but our waiter came over and said the kitchen was still working on it. The missing dish was grilled salmon, so it seemed odd that it would be taking this long. It finally came out almost 15 minutes after the rest of the dishes. Unfortunately, my entree was pretty underwhelming as well. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara, which seemed to be missing seasoning. It was very bland in flavor, but the sauce tasted too thick. I normally love carbonara dishes and this wasn't even an average dish, in my opinion. Because we liked our appetizers, I'm sure we'll give this spot another try after it's been open for a little longer. read more

Overall: Slightly above average Italian food not quite worth the price. We dined al fresco after the courteous host offered outside or inside dining for our reservation. I ordered a special, the sea bass topped with crab served with risotto. All parts of the dish were bland. We also orders a seafood pasta dish with lobster, scallops, and smoked salmon, with a half lobster on top in a blush sauce. Good pasta, but the half of lobster was a claw and empty lobster tail. We kindly inquired about the half lobster to two members of the wait staff but both barely acknowledged the lack of lobster. Desserts receive mixed reviews. Good crème brûlée, average terimisu, and below average pistachio gelato...it was less gelato and more like ice cream. Both entrees were around $40. Not terrible, but not great for the quality at that price point. At least the dinner rolls were warm and tasty. read more

We started with a Caprese salad that we shared . It really wasn't a caprese salad! It was a beautifully presented stack of deep fried eggplant with burrata , tomatoes , prosciutto and olive oil and balsamic. Unfortunately, the eggplant while crispy had no seasoning at all unless you dipped it in the oil and vinegar. I got an appetizer for my entree - Seared Scallops. There were 4 or 5 , but they weren't seared at all . They were served atop an eggplant butter type mixture. Kind of gloppy. Husband got the special, a seafood pasta . The pasta was very strange, more like long noodles- his dish also suffered from under seasoning. We decided to share a dessert- a tiramisu. That was the best thing we had . read more

Everything was delicious, the cocktails were balanced, the fried burrata and calamari were stellar, and we had Chicken Parm, Eggplant Parm, and Gnocchi a la Nonna - all were must tries. We have been three times since it became La Tavola. First, I will say that on all three occasions, the food was very good. The presentation was beautiful and it seemed more authentic than we anticipated. In other words, it was more like Italian food we have had in Italy than at Italian restaurants the USA. Whenever I go out to eat (almost) anywhere I do not hesitate to send food back into the kitchen that violates my expectations or that is problematic. At my age, I can rarely eat certain rich foods or fried foods. Because of this, I am very picky about what I order and what I choose to eat. On two separate occasions at La Tavola, I sent back entrees that didn't appear as they were described. There seemed to be a wide gap between what I thought something would be and what arrived. On on occasion, I expected a dish to be richer and creamier. On another, I expected to be able to identify all of the ingredients in the dish and instead they were all blended into a sauce. Let me tell you, they take their food very seriously here. On both occasions, the manager came to my table and politely discussed the dishes I returned. He was not rude or annoyed. He was patient and took time to educate me on the various ways certain sauces and dishes can be prepared. When he left, I got a new entree and he didn't make me feel ignorant or whiney. All three times we went, we had an an attentive and experienced person waiting on us. I think that La Tavola aspires to be a great restaurant. They really care about how you respond to their food and experience, I'll give them 5 stars for that. The selection, originality and preparation of entrees and appetizers is fantastic and distinguishes them from other area restaurants. I would not hesitate to go there again. I think they set the bar very high for themselves. For what they are and what they aspire to be, I don't give out 5 stars generously. I'm on the edge of giving them 5. I do not rate them any higher or lower than the four or five other top restaurants in the area. read more

First of all, the atmosphere here is wonderful... you feel like you are in a real Italian cafe. We got a seat by the window, so we could see the Christmas lights. The food was all delicious... we got several dishes with various sauces and enjoyed them all. But the best was when he came out and stirred the pasta into the block of cheese!!! We ordered entrees which never came. After 105 minutes I asked for the check for the wine and that we were leaving. The chicken pesto was very good. My coworker ordered a pepperoni pizza and he said that it was the best he has ever had. He is a big fan of the Chicago pizzas so we were surprised. A perfectly lovely Easter supper in what we came to find out was the mushroom capital of the United States! Anyway, there are a few options on Kennett Square from which to choose, and we liked the vibe of Trattoria La Tavola so decided on that. From the moment we stepped in, felt like family. Our "server" (who we found out mid-way through the meal was the owner) was friendly, helpful and efficient. There wasn't a single complaint about any of the dishes, the appetizers (especially the artichokes over white beans) were delicious, and the portions were good. Desserts, mostly made in-house except for the cannoli, were exceptional! Prices are reasonable and it's a very nice space with plenty of tables, and outdoor seating in the good weather. read more

Had an early dinner at La Tavola this past Saturday with a few girlfriends. The weather was great so we ate outside which was lovely. The service was great from the start to the end; our waiter, "Kleva" I believe, was wonderful - knowledgeable, responsive, friendly, humorous. The food and cocktails were great -- we all had something different; each dish was presented well and delicious. The portions were adequate; only I took leftovers home as usual. No one could fit dessert. The prices were reasonable toward the higher end but well worth it; the cocktails were a good pour of alcohol. I can hardly wait to go back again; my only problem will be deciding what delicious dish to order. read more

Met a friend for lunch today. Fairly easy street parking or there is a parking garage around the corner. Cute interior. Charming vibe. Took our order quickly and food came out fast. Service was nice. The food was more average than I was expecting. I had the beet, burrata and carrot salad. Carrots and beets could have been cooked a bit more. Both hard to cut and chew. We split that penne vodka. Hard to go wrong with that. It was good. My friend had the sausage and broccoli rabe sandwich and only ate a few bites. It was under seasoned. We did not have drinks or dessert. Everything about this restaurant was wonderful. The servers were knowledgeable and charming, the food was to die for.

La Tavola has become our "go-to" place for a night out. The menu is varied and all of it is very good. We especially like the veal chops and pork chops, which are often offered as a special and are wonderful. One of our dining companions (a crab cake aficionado) said the crab cakes were the best he has had outside the state of Maryland. It's a comfortable place and not too loud. Our favorite server, Klevi, takes great care of us. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Finally, the BYOB policy makes La Tavola an excellent deal. read more

I ordered the spaghetti carbonara, and it was out of this world. My friend ordered an eggplant pasta, and I had a bite--I don't even like eggplant usually, but this changed my mind. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. As another huge plus, this is a BYOB.
