My family and I were in town for a memorial service when the night of we decided to come here because we heard that the reviews were great and we wanted to check it out for ourselves. When we finished our meals I knew that the chef had a real talent for understanding food and I mean really understanding the culinary arts. I told him that I would be writing a review and compared him to Daniel Boulud. I still agree with this statement from what I remember about the meal but it's been a long time coming. My mom ordered the mushroom soup and normally I'm not a fan of mushroom soup but this was INCREDIBLE. The flavors were exquisite and the soup was creamy and the ingredients were fresh. I myself ordered the pasta dish at the time and it was creamy and delicious and flavorful. I know that the rest of my party enjoyed their meals and I knew I needed to speak to the chef. I'm glad I did. He was really nice.

Cute restaurant along the main drag way with metered parking. Not sure if there's a garage nearby or not. Had a bar, indoor seating, and outdoor patio area. Stopped in for a cocktail. They have a great selection of drinks that have had some great thought put into them. Tried the blood orange margarita and the Mushroom Manhattan. This area is the mushroom capital so it was on point. Both were great! Staff very friendly and attentive. Worth a stop!

We ordered the Linguini with Seafood of clams mussels, shrimp and calamari in a red sauce. The salad was a beet, goat cheese and apple over greens. The dessert was white chocolate cheesecake with raspberry sauce. The service was very good and attentive and overall an enjoyable meal!

Gosh. What a mushroom capital experience, house white wine with the mushroom pizza....hands down a great choice

All around score of 5 stars. We were greeted at the door by the hostess and owner Sandra for our 5:00 pm reservation. Seated in the lovely main dining room, the walls are a warm rose color with large painting on the walls. Cozy, but not overdone. Our friendly and informed server Marissa answered any questions we had on menu offering and portion sizes. The beverage and cocktail list offers several cocktails, drafts and mocktails that do not look sugary. My request for a sbagliato was prepared to perfection. Mushrooms are a big component of menus here in Kennet Square. We started with the crab stuffed mushroom caps, served as 4 large caps. The generous portion of mushroom soup was creamy and delicious. We shared the ample sized veal and prosciutto bolognese pasta dish was shared. The pasta dish is savory and hearty. We asked Marissa to take away the plate to stop us from hurting ourselves by over eating. From beginning to end our experience at Portobello's was first rate and delicious.

Really excellent dining experience! Lovely surroundings and live music. Susan was a terrific server. Excellent wine list. We both had mushroom soup, and I had the clams app. The soup was wonderful, very complex. The clams were good, mildly spicy, though not noted as such on the menu. B had the blue crab ravioli with shrimp, while I had the stroganoff. Both were superb. The stroganoff gravy was delicious and the potato dumplings were very light. Hats off to the chefs and Susan for a great meal! Molto grazie!

Staff is very kind! I like that they do have seasonal menu items :) The roasted mushroom soup is one of my favorite soups (besides noodle soups)! It's so flavorful and comforting...it's basically all you could ever ask for a soup! I love the chill ambiance it has there. I enjoyed my short ribs this time, but I enjoyed the pasta dish I had the first time I was there in the winter! We stopped here based on a recommendation from my coworker and I definitely would recommend it to everyone! It's a bit of a trip for me, but we basically go as a dinner option after having visited Longwood gardens. :)

Food and service was great. Their mushroom soup is to die for!! We also had the portobello wrap which was equally delicious.

Went there with friends after hitting Longwood Gardens. Ambiance and service was solid but the food was okay. Best item for us was the mushroom soup which was very good. As to the rest, I think it was cooked alright but the dishes were too salty for almost everyone at the table. My wife and I ordered the Portabello ravioli and the Shellfish Fra Diavolo... I liked texture and was not overdone but just way too salty. I was a bit disappointed because the place is a tad pricy. It's not super clear to me if I will return, maybe for lunch but not sure.

Amazing service and food!! The atmosphere is always lovely . Best food in Kennett! Stuffed mushrooms are the best and the drinks are so delicious!

I'm not generally an Italian food person but so glad we tried this place. We were looking for somewhere to eat before going to a 7pm reservation at longwood gardens. Service was great and so was the food, I got the pasta and my boyfriend got the lamb and we shared the shrimp appetizer. We would definitely come back!

This place is extremely nice. Very nice decor with a jazz musician playing. Our waitress was amazing. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, was very friendly, very beautiful and really just a pleasure to be around. She had a slight mishap that resulted in me getting ranch dressing on my pants and some broken dishes but it was a total accident and she apologized 1000x. This did not discourage me one bit. The food was really good. The veal meat ball in the Sunday Gravy was very tender. For some reason the sausage was kind of cold which seemed odd to me. I had a portobello egg roll as well which was really good. This place is expensive but for the service i got i would gladly pay that.

We couldn't limit our picks and started with the Grilled Kennett Square mushrooms, Camembert with carrot caramel foam, and the chilled pea soup with mint. We also ordered the Nashville hot catfish and curry soft shell crab. The caramel foam was delicious and paired perfectly with the cheese and bread. The pea soup was refreshing and harmonized well. The mushrooms were simply delightful. The catfish was cooked extremely well, with the crust (with a corn meal crust?) remaining crunchy and the fish juicy, with the seasonings on point and spicy. The curry soft shelled crab was the winner among many winning choices and was perfect. We couldn't stop raving about it. We enjoyed it so much, we overindulged and ordered the lamb. The meat was exceptionally soft, even for rack of lamb. Unable to resist the dessert menu, we finished with the rhubarb sorbet with basil water and granola. My wife is not a fan of rhubarb or basil, but also loved the dessert and its balance and uniqueness. The service was excellent and attentive, and the restaurant is very cute and cozy. My wife has worked in restaurants for years and we were both thoroughly impressed by the execution and care for all the items we ordered. It's one thing to have a creative and unique menu, it's another thing entirely to have that level of execution for it. Thank you!

My husband and I had brunch at 1906 Fine Dining when we visited Longwood Gardens for the first time…read morethis past Saturday and had a wonderful meal. Inside the large conservatory complex at the Gardens, 1906 is the fine dining option when you visit Longwood. (There are other options for Longwood visitors who prefer a more casual or less splurge-y meal.) The restaurant is beautiful, with plush seating and beautiful green tones and windows that look out onto the fountains. It's definitely fine dining. They offer a two-course menu for $65/per person or a three-course menu for $80/per person, with many options for each course. We decided to do three courses each, with an enhancement, too (they offer a few courses as enhancements to enjoy before or during the meal that range $11-15). We couldn't resist - there was much we wanted to try. And what's truly incredible about 1906 is that so much of what they serve comes from Longwood's own gardens! In summer, 70% or more of what you eat might come from the gardens at Longwood, which is special. We shared: chilled watermelon (with lardo iberico, aleppo pepper, and sheep feta) as an enhancement; tune tartare (with cucumber, tomatillo, and veggie "chicharrón") and sunflower seed "risotto" (with a poached egg, marigold butter, and sweet pepper jam) as our two "beginnings"; agnolotti (with sweet yellow corn, pickled stone fruit, and Thai basil) and dayboat scallops (with tempura rock shrimp, charred scallion risotto, Fresno chile, and corn velouté) as our two mains; and berry cremeux (with lime chantilly, compressed melon, and watermelon mint sorbet) and stonefruit financier (with almond praline and fig leaf gelato) for our two desserts. Everything was very good - fresh, creative, and delicious. The desserts were easily our least favorite dishes (the berry cremeux didn't work for me - the texture and the taste made me feel like I was eating a smoothie bowl, and both desserts were too large), but that's being critical. All the food was very good. I had a glass of wine and an NA mocktail, while my husband tried two of their cocktails. All the drinks as great as the food. The service was outstanding. Our server - Ben - was incredibly friendly and helpful (he even gave me some places to check out in the area when we told him it was our first time visiting Longwood). He made the experience special. Another note about the incredible service - a little boy was sat at the table next to us, and I thought - is this a good restaurant for a little boy? What's he going to eat!? But they made him such an incredible meal with sweet touches - mac and cheese with goldfish on top and a dirt cup dessert with such convincing rocks made of chocolate, I was worried he was going to break his little teeth (but it was chocolate)! It was sweet; he loved his meal, and we enjoyed watching him experience it! That's the kind of service you can expect at 1906 - personal and accommodating and welcoming. 1906 isn't your only option for dining at Longwood Gardens. But if you're looking for a fine dining meal with a seasonal menu, the freshest of produce (a lot of it from Longwood's own gardens), and incredible service, make a reservation for brunch/lunch or dinner when you next visit Longwood!
