I'd been searching for a large sports bag after my luggage got damaged in transit (thanks, BA!),…read morebut had been having trouble getting something of the right size without having to order it online. Dick's website said they had one, but in the first store we tried they didn't have it in store. This branch was a spur-of-the-moment visit as we were actually here to visit Trader Joes, but within a couple of minutes a very attentive sales person had established my requirements and led me to the correct aisle, where they actually had a bag in stock that ticked all the relevant boxes - hurrah! In and out in less than 5 minutes.

Completely unacceptable experience here…read more I was the only customer in the shoe department. I waited over twenty five minutes, hoping to try on several pairs of shoes in my size. Two young employees in the shoe department were focused on restocking; after fifteen minutes of waiting, I asked one of them for assistance. (I also heard on one of their radios that someone was waiting for assistance in the shoe department. That'd be me - the only customer in the shoe department.) The two young employees avoided eye contact and the one I asked for help from told me the other employee would help me - I waited another ten minutes and neither stopped restocking to help me. I felt invisible, and angry, that I even bothered driving the 30 minutes it took to get here. I was planning on buying at least two expensive pairs of shoes for the upcoming school year - but alas, I'll be looking elsewhere. Not sure if the pressure to restock is so great from higher-ups or if the two young workers were simply avoiding working with customers. Either way, I will NEVER be back in this Dick's as there is clearly something wrong in this location. Looking at the other Yelp reviews, I'm not the only one with a bad shoe department experience. What a shame.

If I could sum up my West Marine experience today it would be in the negative numbers as the steam…read moreis still coming out my ears. I was at the Peabody store, and asked for a hand held electric horn. The overly solicitous and somewhat condescending gentleman did not believe me there was such a thing. So he walked me over to the horn section to show me there was no such thing.....at which point I informed him again it is on the catalog. So then I stood there while he looked it up. Voila....and seabrook had one. We called ahead to hold it and then drive up. At Seabrook the customer service was no less irritating. Two registers open. One where several of the staff was working with one man at length....all of them staring at the computer. The second one operated by a young lady. The other young lady in front of me was rather chatty, had to run back for a price on something that she couldn't find? And kept chatting even after she paid. I finally interrupted and asked if she knew where they were holding my ELECTRIC air horn. (At this point there was quite alone behind me too) and was told that I had to go to customer service..... So I sat there for a while, alone at first, and then Jed Clampett showed up with another salesman. The idle conversation was no less infuriating.... Another person came over to look up something for someone else, and I grabbed him and asked him for my air horn. I took it back to stand in line, and finally left. I'm not sure whether the lack of intelligence or courtesy in their stores is a plot by West Marine to get us to shop more online, but at this time I am happily in support of a conspiracy theory....

The local store is understaffed. The staff was really not very helpful. I ended up ordering stuff…read morefrom the Internet from their store a month ago. I'm still waiting for the delivery to the store. After two weeks I called the store and was put on hold for no less than 15 minutes and was told I needed it a SKU number. The tracking number on the order is not related to any known mail delivery service. I was told by customer service that it means nothing. I was informed that a West Marine delivery truck left from one of the Carolinas last week and had to deliver to every store along the way until they gets to New Hampshire. I'm still waiting.
