We visited for dinner our first night in town and have not had a worse dinner experience before this one. We both ordered mojitos, both of which tasted only of soda water and mint. Our entrees were flavorless and honestly a little scary looking. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib special they had. He ordered it medium rare and it came out grey. His baked potato tasted like corn bread?? The best thing was the salad and that was sub-par. I ordered the taco salad. It came out with a gigantic glob of sour cream and guacamole, which I love so I was excited. The chicken tasted like they boiled chicken, shredded it, and put it on the lettuce. Travelers Cove is a Mexican/American restaurant in Old Town Florence. Walking in it's a very casual relaxed atmosphere that seems popular with the locals. A small full bar is to your immediate right as you walk in. Towards the back are dining booths as well as tables on the back deck that overlooks the Siuslaw River. The staff are welcoming and friendly. There were no seating signs so we helped ourselves to a booth. The interior as a whole seems a bit worn but very clean. We were given menus and drink requests were taken. The booths are roomy enough and the walls have art from various local artists, some of the works are for sale. We started with an order of Calamari. It is nicely breaded in a lightly seasoned batter that is light and very crispy. The calamari itself is very tender and not tough. There was a generous amount that came with fries on a platter with ramekins of marinara and ranch for dipping. The fries are also a good variation of standard size fries that are either baked, or they were dredged with flour before frying. In either case, they were crispy and delicious with no greasy oil. The clam chowder was interesting in that it was very light, yet thick and creamy. The ingredients seemed fairly simple with clam, potato and traces of celery, yet the flavor profile was competition quality. I found myself wanting more. It was so smooth with no grittiness or sand, just an outstanding flavor with no fish oil taste. The chowder came with a slice of beer bread that resembles corn bread in texture and is toasted nicely. The Bacon and Pepper Jack burger came on a toasted sesame seed bun with grilled onion, fresh tomato, lettuce and strips of bacon. The patty itself was prepared medium well and had a seasoned taste that really brought out the flavor of the beef. The pepper jack cheese flavor was almost missing but the burger as a whole was a big hit in presentation, preparation and flavors. It was a very satisfying burger and it also came with the same crispy fries. All in all, the food was a very good quality and puts the comfort in comfort food. Because the food flavors here are so good, I'm going to use the tired old line and say Yes. I WILL be back for more! read more

Large serving sizes for the price, though I felt the seasoning was a little bland-you can always add flavor with some salsa or hot sauce, though, so I understand pleasing those with a less adventurous palate. Fish tacos are so flavorful and so were the rice and beans. Services is great and they are on top of getting you refills. My family loved their food as well. We loved that their chips are warm and we loved the salsa. The ambiance is nice, during the meal they turned on music, it was different and not your typical Mexican restaurant music. They have a bar, in the entry room- and it was lively by the time I left at about 5pm- but the outdoor seating (which is what I was looking for) is in the back- so I decided to get shredded beef nachos instead. There are only a handful of tables on the back patio, which over looks the river. But, our last two visits, the service has been so bad that we have had to walk out after being seated and then ignored by the young ladies Providing service. I had breakfast there this morning and boy oh boy was I in for a treat. I had their Machaca breakfast and it was the best I have ever had, bar none. Actually, it was one of the best breakfasts overall that I have ever had. Their chips were hot and crispy, the salsa would rate in my top 5 (could have used some cilantro) and the beans and rice were both flavorful, not in the least bland and boring. Friends and I decided to check out Travelers Cove breakfast offerings since new owners took over. First off- service was great with frequent refills of coffee and server asking how we were doing. We all chose menu items that were Mexican themed. I had a breakfast burrito which was large and contained carne asada and potatoes- just how I like a breakfast burrito! A friend had the chorizo and eggs which looked great and tasted fantastic. The other friend had a shrimp omelette and enjoyed that immensely . We found this place while wondering around downtown Florence. It's actually easy to miss because it only has a few windows at the street and a sign hanging over the sidewalk. But, we're glad we went in because it was a good meal and a cool setting. In the front is a bar with almost no seating, but, you can sit at the bar. There are a few tables in the narrow walk to the back. In the back there is a deck they call The Margarita Deck. It's could use a paint job, but, it's got that "by the sea" vibe. We sat at a small table with a view east down the river and a view west to the bridge. It was exactly what we were looking for. The chips and salsa took a few minutes to get there but they were good when they came. The salsa is a little too tomato-y but had a good flavor. The Super Burrito with ground beef was pretty good. I ate pretty much the entire thing! Not sure why I like ground beef in a burrito but it's hard to find and I'm glad it had a great flavor. The rice and beans were a great compliment and had a robust flavor as well. The shrimp fajita burrito was also good. It's a good idea to just put fajita ingredients in a burrito. You're going to do it anyway, why not put it all in, throw some cheese on it and call it good. The margarita was a little disappointing. Didn't taste like it really had any alcohol in it. I went to this place with my volleyball team, and i understand going somewhere with a lot of people at once could be chaotic but there is a point where simple things like refills, more chips and salsa and attitudes can be done more efficiently. yes the food was good and the restaurant was nice but the service wasn't there. my friend got a burrito and she asked for sour cream multiple times before getting the burrito and when she got it there wasn't a trace of sour cream, she also asked if beans and rice came with the burrito and he said yes but she never got them. we only got one chip refill the entire hour and a half visit and when we sat down we ate the chips and they were gone immediately so it's not like we were eating slowly. we didn't get many refills. For my other friend she asked for tacos with no toppings but sour cream but she ended up getting the opposite, every topping BUT sour cream. ‼Now i have worked in the food industry i know it's rough with big parties but these are simple things that don't take too much. read more

We had eaten here back in September of 2018 when we lived in Oregon and it was terrible, so we never came back. On our last trip to Oregon our friends at Jalisco's, our go to spot in Eugene, told us it was under new ownership and we were headed to the coast so thought we would take a chance. My wife was hungry for Mexican in a "seafood" port. I was hungry nevertheless and opted to eat at this establishment. Service was a little slow. there wasn't many customers at the time, mostly elder locals. Decor and ambiance i would say is outdated. Old booths and aged bamboo chairs. Wall decorations are local artists paintings with other odd drawings and photographs. They do have a outside deck that would seem inviting if the sun would come out. Food was okay but my dish was unusual, i had ordered carnitas del Reyes, their local recipe. I should have asked because instead of regular fried carnitas they gave like it was cooked in a stew pot. Flavor was not present. Service seemed to be slow too. Having a service station right where people could see what they do while waiting for the food wasn't appealing to me. They do have a full bar at the entrance which seemed odd. The bathrooms were located near that too. I would not recommend this place. read more

I asked the waitress if the crab was frozen or local..she said she didn't know.I asked if their fish was hand battered in the restaurant..she said no..so guessing comes pre battered,frozen in a box from Chef's Store ..My friend asked for plain fries as all the meals said seasoned,the waitress said they aren't seasoned,just crispy..and the menu never gets corrected each time there's a reprint ! Service was minimal..no asking if we'd like refills,how our meal was going etc and a processing charge on the total bill before they know how you are going to pay..definitely scratched off our local lunch venues list.. read more

What a hidden gem! I had a taco and enchilada along with a strawberry margarita and all were delicious. My husband had the halibut fish and chips which were some of the best we've had on the coast. After meandering the main drag in Historic Old Town Florence, my mom and I found ourselves in need of some eats. So we made our way to Traveler's Cove Restaurant to satisfy our grumbling bellies. SPACE/ATMOSPHERE: Inside Traveler's Cove is fairly large. The front room features a full bar and a couple tables. There's a lot of open space because they often have live music and dancing. Fun! Towards the back of the restaurant there are a few booths and a back patio appropriately named the "Margarita Deck." Sadly it was a bit drizzly out during our visit so we sat inside. There's a handful of beer and alcohol advertising on the plaster walls. BITES: Being on the west coast I just had to try a bowl of clam chowder and the beer bread. It was delish! The beer bread reminded me of a corn bread. For my meal I opted for the halibut fish and chips. Really tasty! Not too bready and super fresh! SIPS: While my mom chose to drink an iced tea I opted for a draft beer. They didn't have a ton of options. That's okay though - I chose a Dos Equis Lager. Great compliment to my fish and chips. SERVICE: Our server was alright. She brought us chips and salsa to start our meal, brought our food out promptly, and checked back with us to ensure we were enjoying our orders.
