Over a year expired and still on the shelf

I should have listened when other people were posting the same thing, this commissary is known for selling you expired food. I'm disgusted.

Typically, groceries are 20% less at the Commissary versus purchasing groceries at civilian supermarkets. So, I shop here because the grocery and meat selections are vast due to military personnels' different cuisines prepared. I purchase my earthquake survival MRE's here, too.

Wonderful cake by Travis Commissary Bakery. I always have them decorate the cake and I add my kids toys.

This review is for the bakery. Whenever a birthday comes along I always special order my cakes through the bakery. I always get whip cream frosting (I don't like butter Creme), raspberry filling (from what I hear custard is delicious also) and have them decorate the topping but I add the toys. I use the toys my kids have and it turns out to be a better looking cake. I try to place the order a week before if you can avoid the next day. I think I did this once. They made it happen and the quality was great as always but I try to be considerate and order it at least a week before.

Not only am I an elite yelper, I also happen to be a military spouse!! I come here for most of our grocery needs, and much much more! Prices outside of the military base could be so expensive, although the prices continue to go up, it is still much cheaper to shop on base. Of course we all know that you need proper military ID to do so. The staff here are so so helpful! Miliza, Linda, and Jackie are superstars, and always willing to make it right for the customer!!! The baggers are awesome too, so give them a generous tip after they bag your groceries, take them to your car, and load them for you!! We love Travis Commissary!!!

This is another one of the few perks that the boys and girls in red, white and blue still get, and it's really worth it. Yes, it's worth the drive from VTown to Travis to get groceries. I can save $50 + + per trip, and yes, that is worth it. Whatever they don't carry it, they can special order it for you, by the case. They have a large selection of Hispanic (Mexican and Puerto Rican), Asian (Japanese, Philippino and Korean) and German Food Items, usually 20% less than at the civilian stores. The meat is very fresh and of high quality. There is a very extensive produce department, Deli, Bakery and organic foods as well. There is a 7% surcharge on your receipt, but it's worth it. That 7% is used to pay for the overhead. Unlike civilian stores who build those costs into everything you buy, and jack them up, the commissary has it right there up front! FYI - you are expected to tip your bagger. It's the only money they make, so don't be a tightwad. I usually give them $3 for a full cart of food. Think of where all those teenagers would be if they weren't at the commissary earning money? SCARY THOUGHT

A moldy cutie smooshed in the center of my bag. Inspect the produce, Yelpers.

I have a love hate relationship with the commissary. I love the prices on staple items (meat, dairy, baking essentials, spices, etc.). I like that they'll special order items, like my Peanut Butter & Co. and Goya products. I'm slightly irritated by the small (but growing) selection of natural/organic items. Today I saw coconut sugar for $3.49 and jumped for joy. I detest the produce section. Let me explain. The selection of organic produce is small; no biggie, I can go elsewhere for edible skinned items. What irritates me is the sheer volume of rotten fruits and vegetables. What gives? Every time I'm there I see produce staff inspecting and checking. Throw out the hundred eyed potatoes, the soft, slimy onions or the moldy oranges (peep my pic). This is the second time I've bought bagged fruit with a dead guy in the middle. On the bright side, both last time and this time, they've given me a full refund. The customer service is decent.

Well stocked. Prices are not super low. They do have products hard to find in regular stores. If you buy taxable products there is no tax.

The checkout lines on the weekends are too long. Hire more people. The prices aren't that good.

I would say that on average the Travis Commissary is $1 cheaper per item than the Lucky per item and between $1-$2 cheaper than Raley's per item.

Super pillowy steamed bun with ube halaya/jam in the center! Great cozy snack. I also tried the chicken asado one; eh, it was alright as the chicken filling was a little too gloopy for my liking. Anyway, yes this mart is ***fantastic*** if you're looking for hard-to-find Asian food goodies. This mart advertises the ability of customers to request specific items to be sold here, and the owners evidently are receptive to such requests (I mean, there's a freezer corner just dedicated to fruit-shaped ice cream lol). Also, I appreciate that interior-wise it's just an old-school bodega-style mart lol nothing overly trendy like j-pop/k-pop blaring in the store. Good shopping experience for me. :p No fuss with lot parking at all when I visited on an early afternoon Sunday.

Most recently, we had a 10% off coupon that stated in large writing it expired in 7 days, only to be told there was a different expiration date hidden in much smaller print. We were only a few hours past the cutoff, and instead of offering any understanding or trying to help, the staff argued about it. Most companies with decent customer service would honor something like that. As someone with 15+ years in customer service, it's disappointing to see an establishment with so much potential fall so short in this area. The staff comes across as cold, monotone, and uninterested in helping customers. To make matters worse, there seems to be little to no manager or lead support available to assist with bigger issues. Unfortunately, the customer service here has been a zero every time I've visited.

I had called all over town and nobody else was selling them except a well-known sandwich place selling them for $20, and we didn't have that kind of budget. The lady named Diamond wasn't fazed at all when I ordered 16. She made the order with a smile and friendly conversation and they were outstanding sandwiches. I left for awhile to shop while she made them, and when I returned, some more co-workers were behind the counter nearby her station and they were bragging about how well she had handled the order. It looked like a nice team interaction. Please give kudos to the lady named Diamond, and also to the decision makers for choosing to sell Corned Beef Sandwiches on St. Patrick's Day, unlike the rest of Fairfield businesses!

I do consider the Store to be relatively clean compared to others, but my one big pet peeve is the fact that I've seen people leave without paying. The Deli is located close to the entrance. I have seen people order a sandwich and leave through the common entrance/egress location, which is located just a few feet from the doors. This same location, which is near aisle four, provides an easy exit when leaving the bathroom; from aisle four, you can inconspicuously walk straight out to the parking lot, bypassing all the registers. I've seen people use this aisle to leave the store with a bag of groceries in their hand or even a cart full of groceries, with no bags whatsoever. I complained to the management a few times, to no avail. Well, it looks like they finally put in guard rails that only allow you to enter the store. You must exit through one of the checkout stands. Glad this was finally done, but it probably took a noticeable loss in revenue or someone's job being on the line, before anyone noticed.
