    Prime rib heavy cut
    Dan S.

I have lived in Dayton my whole life and this was my first time trying Treasure Island. Old school place but the large bar with sunken bartender area was pretty cool. Saturday night was Prime Rib special and the it was a very large tasty cut. Went for the heavy cut, about all I could handle. The hash brown potatoes was light and fluffy and the asparagus was prepared well. The TI Tea cocktail was a generous pour. Overall I can see why people love this place and are regulars

My last visit to Treasure Island was 1978, before I moved away. Very few changes ... well, the cigarette vending machine and matchbooks are gone! The owners have certainly maintained the same vibe and the bar is full and occupied by what I assume are regulars. Will I return? Happily, whenever I visit Dayton again.

A pretty popular place for locals in the area. We sat at the bar since the dining area was packed. It seemed like everyone at the bar knew each other as they were conversing the entire time across the way. Got the prime rib sandwich on a recommendation from the lady sitting next to me. Sad to say I was underwhelmed since it was overcooked and way too bready. We had great service, so hats off to the bartender and extra stars for the cozy, local atmosphere.

Newly renovated. Nice paint job outside. Beautiful woodwork inside. Dark romantic nostalgic ambiance. Five stars so far. Service and food were sub par. I was really hoping for attentive waitstaff and home cooked meals. Instead for lunch today we found overwhelmed waitresses and unimpressive food Presentation and taste. Sad. Hire more staff and better cooks if you're going to spend all that money to refurbish! We won't be back unless someone tells us there's been improvements.

Had this on the list for a long time. With the extensive seafood options it made sense to check it out on a Friday- glad we did! Such an elegant atmosphere I'd say this was the finest ambiance of any restaurant I've yet experienced since moving to neighboring Preble County. I'm in love with the sunken bar and those swivel captain's chairs. Friendly mature crowd and it was pretty lively though still early when we arrived. Had a cocktail at the bar while waiting to be seated which turned out to be only about 10 minutes though we had been told 20. Very low lights and plush feel in both the bar and main dining room. Nautical touches throughout and somehow the place actually has the feel of a ship. We were seated in the second dining room which is more brightly lit and not as classy classic as the rest of the joint, but still high end. We shared a wondrous shrimp cocktail with five huge fresh firm shrimp. I had the scallops which were sweet, plump and tasty, and such a generous portion. Side salad was nothing to write home about, especially since I opted for O&V. My husband got the house dressing which I tasted and it's mind blowing. Next time! He also had the frog legs and proclaimed them five-star, with plenty of meat. The onion rings were very special, the veggie side, not so much. But I came for the scallops and was very satisfied. The bread basket had warm pumpernickel and Tuscan style slices, so delicious. Wait staff were very well trained, well attired and polite. Parking lot was a bit of a squeeze but there are spots on the street. Prices were very reasonable for the quality. This is a place to dress up for. Definitely plan to return.

Prime Rib Friday & Saturday night special

We stopped by Treasure Island Supper Club on Saturday night, my Mom was craving Prime Rib and its the restaurant's special on Friday and Saturday night. Walking into the restaurant is like stepping back to the mid 70's with the decor, true Mid-Century Modern decor, each booth has a cool lamp and so much retro decor, is it 2023 or 1973? Friendly hostess greeted us and seated us right away, they have a large round bar where lots were gathered enjoying drinks. Once seated at a table in the main dining area our waitress came by to check on a drink order, a busboy provided bread, crackers and water at our table. They have an extensive menu, lots of seafood, something for everyone as well as steaks, chicken and sandwiches. Dinners come with a iceburg lettuce salad with house dressing (sweet & sour) or a variety of homemade dressings, and a side. My Mom ordered the prime rib and they have a regular portion and an extra thick portion. My Dad enjoyed a ribeye with a huge sweet potato and I enjoyed an 8oz filet with potato boat (garlic mashed potatoes with cheese), which was delicious. Throughout the dinner I was so impressed with the busboy who tended to all of the tables in our area, he was filling waters, picking up plates, replenishing bread, getting the waitress when we needed her, which the restaurant did completely fill up, this is something you don't normally see anymore in restaurants, which helped the dining experience. Note its a popular location after UD basketball games, many came to enjoy a sandwich or dinner after the game. Overall what a wonderful time and the prime rib portion is huge, they asked if we wanted desserts, but we were so full. Stop by Treasure Island for a wonderful dining experience in the greater Dayton area.

The food was tasty and very filling. Service was fast and friendly. The decor was very authentic, they absolutely have gone to great lengths to capture the German look and feel of the place. I'm not up in Newport very often, but I definitely will be back and try some more of the menu. Maybe I'll try some of those pretzels next time, the next table over got some and they looked really good.

He ordered a pretzel for his starter which he gave a thumbs up. He described it as having a fermented sourdough taste which he really enjoyed. His main meal was a Hofbrauhaus Hot Brown which he described as very rich and dense definitely filling. I tried his dish and was very confused by the mix of flavors. I ordered the Rueben balls which I thought were nicely crisp on the outside but overly soft on the inside but it did taste very nice with the dip provided. I decided on the Munich Sampler which came with 2 sausages, a crispy fired pork chop with potatoes and sauerkraut. The pork chop was overcooked and dry although smothered with a mushroom gravy. The sausages were tasty but nothing special. Both sides were so heavily seasoned with vinegar I could not get through them. My husband even thought the sauerkraut tasted too vinegary but he loved the potatoes, polishing off what I had left on the plate. The service was great; prompt and polite. I would say if you like German cuisine this is the place for you! Quite authentic flavors. Just not my favorite.

It had been years since my last visit, so I was excited to come back. One thing that caught us off guard was the ordering process. We bounced between inside and the patio a couple of times trying to figure out where to check in, get menus, and place an order. Eventually we learned that orders are placed at the bar rather than through traditional table service. Once we figured it out, everything went smoothly, but it wasn't immediately obvious. For drinks, we ordered a Green Tea Shot and a Green Tea Cocktail. Both were strong, well-made, and exactly what I'd expect from Union Café. Food was more hit-or-miss. Years ago, the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla was my go-to order. This version arrived hot, cheesy, and loaded with filling, but the chicken seemed very different from what I remembered. The texture reminded me of canned chicken, and it lacked the seasoning and flavor that made the older version memorable. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the quesadilla I came back hoping for. I also ordered the half Apple Orchard Salad. It looked great and included apples, feta, candied pecans, dried cranberries, and raspberry vinaigrette. The ingredients worked together fine, but I wouldn't personally pay $6 for the half or $12 for the full again. It felt overpriced for what it delivered. The standout item was the Loaded Tots. Crispy, hot, cheesy, topped with bacon and chipotle crema, and easily the best thing we ordered. No complaints there. Overall, Union Café still shines when it comes to atmosphere, drinks, patio seating, and community presence. I just wish the food had lived up to the memories that brought me back in the first place.

This year, the rooftop bar had some expanded seating, which was a nice perk (for a private event at least, I don't know how accessible it might be otherwise). The drink selection is kind of limited if you don't arrange for cocktails, etc, and the bartenders can be hit or miss. This year we had a couple of great people mixing drinks for our event. I'm not much for the bar scene, so I can't give an opinion on a regular night, but they did really well with the event.
