First off, I ALWAYS get multiple estimates, especially for a big job like taking down two large trees in our front yard and trimming/removing other overgrown trees in our backyard. But Keith Gibson just inspires confidence -- from the initial quick response (he called me back within 5 minutes of me leaving a message), then looking at pictures I sent him then showing up in person later that same day to take a look in person and give me a quote after walking the site. We had some previous tree service work years ago (by someone inexpensive but not very good) so I had a rough idea of cost but Keith's quote was so fair and the way he talked about the trees / species / health (how many tree service guys talk about genus and vascularity?!), I hired him on the spot without soliciting another estimate. Fast forward a few days later to when he arranged to come out, Keith and his crew of two other guys finished a job that I thought would take 2-3 days in one day! There is a story I am going to paraphrase about someone who hires 3-4 young guys to fix something; they show up and work on it all day and charge $$$ but it still doesn't quite work right. The owner finds another much older, experienced technician and he comes and spends 5 minutes looking at the problem, fiddles with it for 5 minutes and gets it working perfectly. He asks to be paid $$$ but owner balks, saying that only took you 10 minutes to fix! The old technician replies, "it took me 10 minutes to fix but you are paying for 40 years of experience that showed me how to fix it properly!" That is Keith! Except he doesn't charge $$$. Keith is extremely knowledgeable, professional and personable to do the job right the first time. We just bought a house that needs some major repairs but before we could start we had 5 large trees that had to be removed and a couple others trimmed away from the roof. Keith got back to me right away and was onsite a day or two later with an estimate. The crew was fantastic. On 4/17/2020 I called "Tree Service by Gibson" and spoke to Keith to get an estimate to remove a liquid amber tree and stump. The tree had several near surface roots that were getting into my sewer line and were close to my foundation. Keith came by within 2-hrs and gave me a very reasonable estimate to remove the tree, stump, roots, and a small liquid amber tree that had sprouted from one of the roots. Our neighbor got his tree removed by this company. In doing so, they broke our string lights cord, shattered 2 light bulbs, and broke a ceramic pot. I called Keith shortly after finding this destruction of property. He was extremely rude on the phone but did come to see the damage. I did not find him to be apologetic or care. I like to support businesses who are kind. He was not kind. I can not speak to the work that he did, but I can speak to his character. With so many tree trimming businesses out there, I suggest you find another company. It should be noted, he did replace the bulbs, did not string back the lights, and replaced the pot with a chipped pot covered in dirt that looked liked it was found in the trash. read more

After having used a larger, well known local tree trimming company for multiple years, I decided to reach out to Keith for a quote to trim some trees after seeing his great reviews on Yelp. Keith was very nice when I spoke with him and seemed to be responsive, but then did not show up to check out our trees and provide me with a quote. I followed up to see if he was planning to come by and was told he would come by the following week, but he still never showed up or followed up with me. It's possible Keith and his team do great work, but very disappointed in his follow through. Perhaps he is too busy; in which it would be better to advise he doesn't have time (or at least follow up and reschedule or cancel). I've gone ahead and am having our original tree trimming company come out to do the work (approx. $600 job). **Update 1/7/17 - After seeing Keith's comment below, I would like to clarify this review was not intended for malicious purposes, but meant to express my experience as a homeowner and consumer with no ulterior motives. Keith and his team did an excellent job cleaning up our overgrown yard. We had multiple trees we wanted trimmed to increase clearance between our property line to minimize intrusion of trees into our neighbors yards, and to get the trees off of our garage to protect the roof and make way for us to tent for termites. Most importantly, we didn't want 'topped trees' that would be sick and weakened by bad trimming practices. From the very beginning when we met with Keith he was knowledgeable and helpful, offering suggestions and ideas for how to make the most of what we had and offering reasonable suggestions for how to maintain and grow our trees going forward. They got a late start to the day and I would have appreciated a bit more communication about the delay/revised ETA, but once on site, they were all in! Keith and his crew took great care of our orange, lemon and pomegranate trees. Keith was able to spot quickly where the trees were, or could become, problematic (turns out our shed was completely holding up an entire section of a tree!). The crew also trimmed multiple Bougainvilleas and a Camellia - returning them to proper and manageable shrubs that no longer take up half our yard. They removed a Cypress and a Yucca plant that was on its' way to becoming unweilding. Keith is awesome! I first met him last November. He came out and took a look at our entire tree situation and gave us some good advice. We ultimately used him to chop down an aggressive ficus in our back yard so that the patio was usable again. He and his team were so professional, fast and clean! They didn't get any tree branches on our neighbors which the tree hung over. They were in and out in 2 hours. Fast forward to this past weekend, where he came out on a Saturday to asses yet another tree situation- remove that darn ficus (roots) all together, remove an ivory infested fence and chop down + hand dig out the root of a palm that just makes an absolute mess in our back patio. Some of the ideas we had run past him were going to be very, very costly, so he spent about an hour with us running through different scenarios which brought the price way down. The thing is, Keith isn't in this for greed--of course the man needs to make money, but I didn't feel he gave us advice based on how much money he could make or the most expensive solution. He gave us great advice based on our budget and what we wanted to accomplish. It's hard to find people like this. So once again, he quickly and professionally removed these trees and the fence and cleaned up everything as if he was never there. I will definitely continue to use Keith as our main contact for any tree related needs, he's an arborist and super knowledgeable about all trees, shrubs, plants.
