This is a great spot for lunch if you ever visit Carmel-by-the-Sea! We came in on a Tuesday (without a reservation) and were seated immediately! I was thrilled to be seated in their adorable patio framed by blooming flowers and greenery, looking down on the myriad of cute little shops below! For starters we had the Grilled Calamari (The BEST calamari I've ever had! So flavorful and tender!) and Caesar Salad (standard). The food came out pretty quickly and the waiters were all nice That said, the food itself could've been better especially at the price point ($30-40). Perfect dining! We sat on the patio at night for our anniversary dinner. The ambiance was ideal--twinkle lights, good music, and heatlamps made it cozy. We ordered the dolma and the gyro appetizer. Old, dry rice clumps, tasteless salad. Called and asked...gyro sandwich costs $20 and you get a pita(s) you can actually make a gyro with. Huh? You can get better food at a gas station and they won't charge you an additional 3% for using a credit card. Don't give these people your business...it's garbage and they don't care. read more

We chanced upon this cute café. It's on the 2nd floor of a quaint building. Heard it's usually full but we were able to get a table without a reservation. We had our dog, so its dog friendly, The server also gave him a treat. The terrace is framed by trees and flowers and umbrellas. The umbrellas are folded up during dinner time when it gets cooler. The food was quite good, We ordered the Lasagna for the kids, very cheesy and the meat sauce was good. Then we had the steak of the day. It was soooo good. Everything from the beautiful pink flowers decorating the 2nd floor patio to the open windows behind the bar letting in an evening breeze-- this place is something special. We came for dinner on a Saturday evening and even though we didn't have a reservation, they were able to seat us at the bar. The staff were very attentive and checked on us many times throughout the meal, ensuring we were satisfied with everything. The food was delicious and very good portions. Even though it was expensive, it was about on par with the cost of everything in this area, and the quality was noticeable. Now, I started with a well seasoned vegetable lentil soup ($5 cup) with a broth that had the right amount of lemon. Delicious. My entree was the gyro platter($32). Seasoned lamb served with tasty saffron rice, tszitziki sauce, pita slices and a Greek salad that could have used more herb flavors in the dressing. A bit overpriced for the offering but overall very good. My wife enjoyed the yellow Thai curry chicken ($32) served with steamed rice. Curry and coconut milk were not dominating but well balanced. Mild but with a hint of heat. She was very happy with the choice and would order it again. We finished the meal with a plate of four small pieces of baklava. Such an interesting experience with COVID-19 at a dining restaurant. The place itself was very cute and cottage/tree house vibes (as the name indicates). The staff is very friendly and constantly making sure everything is well as they wear masks and gloves to serve you. Their menu can be scanned and opened online so you don't even have to touch a menu (but it is available upon request). Many different food options from pasta to curry to burgers and an assortment of alcoholic beverages to satisfy your taste. There is seating on a balcony as well as downstairs in the open. We had the chicken pesto pasta and it tasted delicious! Our only complaint was that we wished the chicken had more of a kick or flavor to it, it was definitely tender and not dry but it lacked an oomf/flavor. Wife and I stopped here on our way to Monterey Bay. Came in with pretty high expectations and left incredibly underwhelmed. Maybe it was our fault for having high hopes, maybe they had an off day or maybe things just aren't as good as other reviewers say. We started off on a GREAT note with the clam chowder. It was so flavorful and we enjoyed every spoon full of this dish. Our sangrias weren't really sweet or had any discerning taste. Very underwhelmed by that. Our main courses absolutely devastated us. The red Thai curry was somehow simultaneously too sweet and salty. The coconut milk was overtly sweet and it seemed like they tried cutting that by adding salt. They just added too much of it. The lamb stroganoff was a very confusing dish. At times the lamb was juicy and delicious, some pieces were extremely fatty and then some were incredibly dry. Would we come here again?
