Further to Monica S's review, I had the exact same experience with Darrell and his company. I have a large tree that is near the property line with my neighbor, who decided one day that he didn't like the overhang of the tree on his side of the property line. At 7 am, just like Monica, I was startled to see a ladder on my lawn going up into my tree with a crew of guys in my tree hacking away with chainsaws. Not only didn't they ask permission first, they were belligerent when I went out to ask them what they thought they were doing on my property. They also let tree limbs drop on delicate plants that I had in my yard and destroyed quite a bit of my landscaping in the process. When the crew refused to respond to my questions about why they were in my tree I started to yell at them to get the hell out of the tree and Darrell came over. He said that the neighbor told him to cut the tree back to the property line. I asked him why he didn't come over to ask the owner of the tree, me, for permission. He said that he doesn't do that, and if someone hires him and limbs are across the property line he'll cut as the person who hires him directs. I'm a lawyer and I told him that he's absolutely wrong about his right to cut to the property line and the health of the tree has to be taken into account. My big, old tree was cut so that all of the weight of branches was now skewed to one side and I asked Darrell if that was a healthy thing to do. He said "well, I can't tell you it's the best thing in the world for the tree". So he knowingly harmed the tree and trespassed. I told him and his crew to never come on my property again without permission and to not touch my tree ever again unless I specifically tell him that it's ok. On their way out, the guy driving their wood chipper truck crashed into another tree on my property, taking off a lower limb, and I figured it was time to start filming what they were doing. OMG!! If I could give this guy a half star I would!! I have never met or worked with anyone that owned a business that was so unprofessional and immature! The man is obviously NOT from Pleasanton as it requires a permit to touch an Oak Tree Mr tree wise was so ignorant! Instead of consoling me about the Oak he called me a "nosey neighbor that called the police". If he had any sense he would have said "ms we are just trimming the Oak" I would have been fine; however the last time they "trimmed" that huge Oak they busted my composter and it needs to be replaced. This time i took pictures; he then proceeded to act like a complete and immature ass and wanted me to take pictures of him in the tree! Seriously people if you want a person that acts like a professional and not a child while trying to keep peace with your neighbors DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY!!!!!! He is a boy trying to act like an adult and I WILL be asking my neighbor to replace my composter!! We have used Tree Wise's service since we had our back yard landscaped 11 years ago, on a yearly basis when the trees were small and growing fast. Darrell the owner has always walked the yard with us and discussed what needed to be done. And then he was on the job with his crew every time which is one of the reasons he is the only tree service we will use. In 2009 two of our pear trees looked sad and I called Darrell to ask what we could do. He diagnosed the problem as a virus infection and took corrective action. I was stunned to read something negative about this company, as that is the antithesis of my experience with them. I have used Darryl and his company on an annual basis for the past 9 years to both remove trees, replant trees, and prune trees. Currently we have about 10 trees that Darryl cares for. I own almost an acre of land in Dublin which has lots of trees on it, 6 of which are very large historic trees; 2 oaks, 3 redwoods and a 200 year old Sycamore tree. Since 1997 TreeWise is the only company I have let care for my trees. It is a massive job to thin them but Darrel has always done an excellent job. We have used Tree Wise for several jobs over six years. They have always been great to work with, prompt, professional, and competitive in pricing. Among the biggest jobs was removing a 35 foot palm tree from a rear corner bordered by a fence and three neighboring yards. They managed the task without damage to the fence or yards. I have done repeated business with Darrel for at least the past ten years. He's a good man who runs an honest business. His crew has always done a great job at pruning my trees and left my yard clean after the job. It is unfortunate that someone lacks the emotional maturity to try to ruin a good small business man with such slanderous remarks.
