Cute restaurant that looks down into downtown Ogunquit. Good tacos, salsas, and just ok queso (we wondered if it was vegan-it tasted like a cashew cheese to us?) It's always nice to find vegetarian options while out on vacation-and this restaurant offers several options which is great! Prices seemed high to me. I was able to catch the season opening this year while travelling through Ogunquit. Coming from San Diego, it's rare to find tacos that can hold up to our border-town original fare. I started with the Hula Girl rum drink, which was so good I drank it too fast. A couple more of these and I might have been hula'ing around the place myself. I switched to the House Margarita which was equally as good. No cheap sugar, stomach acid-burning marg mix in this place. I ordered the 2 taco plate with a Birria and a BBQ Jackfruit. Both were amazing. The Birria is a grilled taco with tender short rib and cheese, and this unexpected side dipping au jus that I literally wanted to pour on everything. The jackfruit was delish. I'm a meat eater but always on the lookout for non-meat plant based substitutes when available and this taco didn't disappoint. Tortilla chips were fresh and warm. Coming from San Diego, cold and stale chips are my pet peeve. Others in my group ordered the Esquite mexican street corn which they raved about and woofed down, as they did the Latino Shepard, which has a nice hidden pocket of short rib tucked down in the cheese and quac. Coming out of a pandemic, it's important to help support local small restaurants and my philosophy is to just slow down, give the staff a break and enjoy being able to go out again. This place had a great crowd and the staff was fun and very attentive. They were just as excited to be open again as we were to be out. I read a few of the other reviews on here and honestly people need to stop pretending they are the phantom gourmet. If you have an issue with your food, speak up! They are doing their best and I guarantee you that small businesses like this would do everything in their power to make sure you are happy with your food and your experience. Don't screw them over by posting some sneak-attack crap review. If you are the only 2 star review in a bunch of 5's then maybe you need to check yourself. I just love the whole theme of this place. Too often Mexican food to New Englanders means Taco Bell. The little design details, neon signs, all-inclusive bathrooms, seat pillows, & menu were awesome with good food to match. Wow! Now, I may be bias because tacos are my all time favorite food, but at the same time I think that makes me very picky... With that said, this place was phenomenal! Our drinks were delicious - not watered down but also not unbearably strong. We nibbled on the salsa to start - not spicy (I could've gone a bit spicier but enjoyed this). Our tacos - mouth watering. I honestly could've ate more. I had the chicky and the special which was a fresh hallibut. I also had the corn dish as a side. I had to ask our waitress what kind of cheese it was made with so I could replicate at home - IT WAS THAT DELICIOUS!! Talk about flavor!! A MUST EAT WHILE IN OGUNQUIT! Food for both me and my non-dairy allergy husband! We split a bucket of the Pirate Punch. Don't be intimidated by the word bucket, it was the equivalent of 2 drinks and was so tasty! We had the chips as an app and each got our own version of 2 tacos. Meh.... Got the latino shepherds pie app and a few tacos. Should have stopped at the app. Food was WAY overspiced. Not hot but out of balance as it tasted one dimensional and not that great for that matter. The lobster taco tasted if it was purchased in Ohio and driven here on an ox cart before refrigeration. For an app, a few tacos (were cold BTW), and iced teas, we spent $58. Recommend driving another 5 min to Wells and try Las Olas for half the price. read more

Very disappointed. My wife and I ordered the happy hour chips and salsa to start. The chips were stale and the salsa was in edible it was so salty. We told the waiter and he said that is usually how it is! Well, as we are almost done with our meal he brings us a replacement chips and salsa and tells us they had made a mistake in the kitchen and actually doubled the spices on the first batch! What! In place of that original order we had the quacamoli which was bland. Next up was a fish taco special which I admit was good, but the legend taco my wife had and the gringo I had were mediocre at best and i think the gringo had the same salty salsa that came with out first chips. Service mediocre and non existent. If we didn't ask about specials they would not have let us know there was any. Save your money. Horrible. read more

This is the spot if you want a la carte tacos that are unique, fresh and full of flavor. The chicken and beef tacos were both moist and full of ingredients. The chicken taco was the favorite of the two. The queso blanco wasn't blended completely smooth but that's a good indicator of it being handmade. We each traded a taco so we could try both. The halibut taco might be one of the top 5 best things I've eaten. So freaking good!!! Our 2 year old son LOVED the chips and guac. The guac was $10 for a small dish. I did think it was overpriced for the size, but honestly, it was delicious and I would still order it again! Our waitress was awesome. She noticed we had been waiting a bit to be greeted. I'm guessing like everyone, the restaurant is short staffed. So she helped us and her fellow servers and took our table. I came into town to visit family and we were looking for a good spot that fit our various dietary restrictions. So glad we found this place! In addition to dietary restrictions we've been dying to dine in at a restaurant that had outdoor seating so this fit the bill. In our party we had two vegetarians, a gluten allergy and two keto diets, thankfully our server was more than understanding and made sure we each had a great meal. We were pleasantly surprised by this authentic, upbeat, delightful upstairs outdoor 'treehouse' dining experience. The creative, fresh ingredients on this small, yet, bountiful taco+ menu did not disappoint! Their unique avocado slaw is totally worth tasting. Guacamole is delicious! Happy hour Marg hit the spot. The 'special' - Plaintain Taco and the Saucy Gringo were perfectly tasty and portioned. We loved tasting cilantro and lime everywhere. Staff (and owner!) were pleasant and attentive. We were so excited to try this place but it totally lacked in flavor. Very cool atmosphere and vibe. Good service but food was all bland with the exception of the corn side. My husband is vegetarian and we got the queso with the impossible burger. Queso tasted more like a white sauce or gravy than cheese and the impossible burger wasn't seasoned at all. It was served with a basket of chip crumbs. They did get us new chips after requesting some. We both ordered tacos. I had chicken and my husband impossible burger taco. Both looked good and had good toppings but neither of the proteins had any flavor at all. For sides we had black beans. Again no flavor. Tasted as if they just opened the canned. Seriously needed seasoning. Now the street corn side was awesome and had great flavor! Overall very disappointed. read more

Let me start off by saying I work in advertising, and at least a couple of these 5-star reviews have a clear self-promotional tone and may have been written by the restaurant staff. So take those with a grain of salt. Anyway, I had the complete opposite experience described by the other reviewers. The food was genuinely awful. I'm a foodie, love Mexican food, and happen to cook and eat it myself a lot. This is some of the worst I've ever had. We started with guacamole and chips. Classic Mexican, can't screw it up, right? Wrong. The chips were store-bought (we actually saw a waitress opening plastic bags of premade chips and dumping them into a bin). The guacamole was scary. It was the same off-color throughout - a strangely dark, mossy green. Anyone who has ever made guacamole from scratch knows that is NOT the color of fresh guacamole, simply because that is not what avocados look like inside. For it to be that dark and consistently colored throughout, I'm almost positive it was cut with something, maybe mashed peas. It also had zero flavor or spice, and an unpleasantly sticky, gummy texture (which, again, lends credence to the mashed peas theory - peas are starchy and would give the guac that sticky texture). Additionally, there wasn't a trace of fresh herbs or citrus in there, just a few meager bits of onion. We went 0 for 2 on avocados by ordering their "avocado slaw" -- which did not contain a speck of avocado, as far as we could tell. It's possible there were traces of avocado in the dressing, but (1) the dressing was so watery and bland this doesn't seem likely, and (2) even if that was the case, blending some avocado into a coleslaw dressing does NOT make it "avocado slaw". Our margaritas were as watery as the slaw and contained almost zero alcohol -- a huge disappointment for cocktails pitched as "hand-crafted." Now for the star of the show. My girlfriend and I each ordered two different tacos, so we could share them tapas style. No way. Everything came out stone cold. The chicken in my first taco was also bone-dry (maybe that's why the taco itself was sitting in a puddle of liquid?), and the steak in my second taco was oddly mushy, clearly the result of being previously frozen or marinated too long (note to the chefs: you can't leave beef cuts in super-acidic marinades for too long; it breaks down the meat's protein structures and makes it mushy, stringy and mealy). My girlfriend's tacos were okay, but like mine, they were rather soggy and cold. I sent my tacos back, and the waitress was genuinely caring and apologetic. Her service was amazing and is the only reason why this is not a 1-star review; however, it's what happened next that prompted me to write this review. When the waitress took back my tacos, she reported my complaint to a short, bearded man who appeared to be a manager. He looked genuinely FURIOUS as she showed him my tacos - whether at me or at the mistake - and i caught him glaring in my direction at least twice until we finally left. Could it be argued it was just frustration? Sure. But nonetheless it's difficult to justify such behavior on the part of the owner, towards a customer, without so much as an apology for the poor experience. Yeah buddy, how DARE I send back my cold, soggy, mushy tacos that I paid $11 for. Be grateful I didn't send back the rest of our bill! Needless to say, I won't be back, and I will not be recommending this place to anyone. read more
