For those who need more info., here ya go: We have an olive tree on a rental property. It was overgrown and growing all over wires leading to the house. I met our gardener to see what was needed. He said the tree was dying so it should be cut down. I did notice a lot of brown areas, but there were also a lot of green ones. Having dealt with a similar situation quite a few years back at another property, I thanked him and said I'd let him know my decision. I knew from my previous experience that I should call a certified arborist because my sense was that the tree could be saved. I Googled "arborists in West Hills" and found two companies. Both came out to check the situation and give a quote. BOTH said the tree was definitely OK and just needed to be cleaned up and shaped. Although cost was important, I liked the approach Nick said he would take, and I was extremely impressed by the fact that he saw an area in our front yard where plants that were growing onto the roof needed to be addressed, something I hadn't noticed. I had a few questions for each company that I needed answered prior to making my decision, so I called them on a Friday, telling each that I would make my decision over the weekend. I was leaning toward Trees 'N Things, but I realized I hadn't checked Yelp ~ so I looked at the comments here. There were a number of negative comments for Trees 'N Things, so I told Nick that concerned me. He told me he was aware of those comments. Trees 'N Things is a family-owned business and Nick said he has stepped into his position in order to help turn around the business and avoid any negative comments in the future. I did notice that the bulk of the negative comments were from previous years, so Nick's explanation made sense to me and it made me feel better. I asked Nick if he would be overseeing the work. He told me he is normally out giving bids, so he isn't normally at the site during the work. He explained that his crew has years of experience; however, he said if I would feel better, he'll be there before the work starts to go over the work with his crew. He said it just might take a day or two to work that into the schedule. I thanked him for his time and told him I'd call either way on Monday. On Monday I called to tell him if he would be at the site to make sure everything was understood (there was more to be done than just the olive tree), I'd like to have him do the work. He thanked me and said once he was able to look at the schedule he'd let me know when he could be there. He called me the next day and the work was done the day after that. Everything was done to our satisfaction, and I'll call Trees 'N Things again when we need this kind of work done. In my opinion, Nick has succeeded in his goal to give clients a reason to have positive comments about his business, and he has, in fact, exceeded that goal. read more

I planted 3 white birch trees (betula alba) 2years ago and needed Nick to come out to do some pruning and shaping. He came out last year and this year and informed me that I did not need to do anything yet. He told me to check back with him in a year or two to check the growth progress. He also pointed out that I might have a girdling issue with the root system. In all he really knows his business. He did not charge me to come out for the assessment. I hired this Company to trim our Palm Trees. I had never used them before, always opted to have my Gardener to take care of them or a smaller company because I thought it would cheaper and better. Was I wrong. From the moment I reached out to this company, they took care of everything. They prepared an estimate in a timely manner and to my surprise they were very , very reasonable. I had always paid in the neighborhood of about $1700 to my Gardener or other company to do this and always hired them because I thought this was the going rate and I was getting it for cheap. I was definitely impressed with their price. The day came for them to trim my trees. They worked diligently and by the time it was done, they had cleaned up and made sure everything was taken care off. They were very professional and without doubt I will surely use them again. If I could give a zero star rating I would. First of all, I waited three months for our appointment to trim our trees. TWO days before the job was supposed to take place, the secretary (Ikiya) called and said she made a mistake and my quote had now doubled! They sent me two quotes because the guy who came to make the assessment (Mauricio) forgot to quote a tree my husband had specified he wanted removed. So Ikiya had TWO opportunities to catch her so called mistake in total pricing. To go from $5,000 to almost double TWO days before the job is supposed to take place is such a scam and a deceitful way to run a business. When I asked to speak to the owner, the owner (Carla) was so rude and started screaming at me that she would not give me a discount. I didn't ask for a discount, I asked for her to honor the original quote/contract. She yelled that I wouldn't find another company in such short notice. Well, I did and I highly recommend! After I told her I would not be paying her practically double what the initial quote was, I hung up and she called back and I could hear her practicing another offensive way of still overcharging me. I blocked her number and am relieved I didn't use their company. Also, when going over the work initially promised, they low balled me and said instead of skimming and trimming our palm trees, they would just trim them and still charge the same. Are you kidding me? This is a terrible company with zero management or organizational skills. The owner is underhanded, rude and just a bad person. The secretary and the field manager are incompetent. I don't see this company being open for business much longer. Do not trust them with your money or home. read more

I don't normally write reviews but this one has been bugging me for a while. I don't have any complaints about the crew. They did a fine job. But Ron, the owner, was an incredibly rude and crass person. For example, I asked him if his crew could trim a little more on one spot and the response I got was that I must be out of my effing mind. I explained to him what my concern was and after more pushback, he had his crew fix it. Then he asked me very menacingly if I'm happy now. I responded that it was better and he said, "I need you to say that you're happy." It was awful. Another line that stuck out was when he said to me "You didn't think to remove your pool fence before my crew arrived?" Um no, I didn't. Ron, if any prep work was required on my part, it would have been nice if you asked me ahead of time. And even if I made a mistake, is that really a way to talk to your client when you're standing on his property? There are so many companies out there who do this kind of work. This company has been my go-to referral whenever anyone asks for help with their trees. I've used them once and had such a pleasant experience with them. However, last month I called and scheduled an appointment to get a quote on cutting down a tree. Of course, they need to come out and take a look, which is to be expected. I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment. The day of my appointment, no one showed up and no one called. I called the next day. The secretary stated she was out of the office the day of my appointment and the tree guy called out sick or had an emergency or something like that. I expressed my disappointment at having had waited 2 weeks for my appointment only to have no one acknowledge it when the time came. I expressed my urgency to get this looked at as my tree is infringing on my neighbors property. She said she would check things out and call me back. She never did. I called around 445p that evening and left a message. It has been 4 or 5 days since that phone call and STILL no one has called me back. I get that they're a small business, which is why I want to support them. I also understand that they're busy. But, to have an appointment scheduled 2 weeks out, to not show up or acknowledge it in any way, and then to not return a promised phone call to reschedule, that's just bad business. Now I'm left scrambling to find another reputable company to come out asap to check out my tree. read more

I called them for an estimate. Ron came out for the appointment. We had a good conversation. When he left, he said, when you are ready, give me a call. Less than two weeks later, I called back. I was told that since he hadn't given me a written estimate, he'd have to come back. I made an appoint on Monday between 4 and 5. No show, No call. Tuesday I called again and was given a story. She said she'd have him call me. Now Thursday and still no contact. I don't think I have a big job, but if they are too busy, or it's too small, just let me know.
