I ...have not owned a bike since high school. It was a teal Huffy and I loved it. Now...I live in Oregon... where I feel, I should own a bike. The boy owns a bike...I would like to go on bike rides and maybe start losing some baby weight. Finding a bike....has been a big thing. I did tons of online research and went to a few places and knew I wanted something that would let me put my feet on the ground. I knew I wanted internal gears and not a lot of gears. I fell in love with an Electra bike. I originally wanted one of the townie bikes...but then I saw the Blanc et Noir ...and was in love. However...I was not in love with the price. I shopped around and the price was the same EVERYWHERE I WENT and the same online so I decided on The Bike Gallery by their mission statement and website and a recommendation from an REI employee. I walked in and immediately saw the bike I wanted... there it was...beautiful ...and I found it also came in a black with white design! A man approached us (Eric) and was a delight to work with. I found out the bike was on SALE (BONUS) and he dealt with my inability to decide on the colour choice...haha Informed him we were not ready to buy that day... but that we would soon (for my birthday) and he said he would hold the bike for a penny. How awesome is that! Well, my future in-laws were there and they were kind enough to put a down payment on my bike! YIPPY SKIPPY. Tonight, before the amazing dinner we had... we went in to pick up some bike helmets and find out how much it would be to repair the tires on the boy's bike and they were again, a total joy to work with. Tomorrow...we go in and pick up my bike and I am just thrilled with all the service I have had so far and hope to have a great place for the whole family to get bikes and service for years to come. read more

The Bike Gallery has the potential to be the most premier bike shop in Portland. However. They're losing their edge and don't give you a break. In any way. I've gone in for tune-ups, repairs, and even spent $150 on a complete annual fix-up, and they wouldn't let me transfer the guarantee to the person I sold my bike to. A week later. Their pricing is really marked-up heavily, and you don't really feel a huge sense of biking community like you do at other Portland area establishments. Their discounts are only usually $100 or so, a couple times a year, and they don't negotiate on anything. I find it hard to believe that a bike shop would be so black and white-- a bike shop needs to be like a good mechanic. Someone you can trust, someone who cuts you a break, someone you'll be loyal to for the rest of your life. I feel like the work done on my bike and my purchases there are too business-like, and less consumer-friendly. I'll be taking my future bike purchases elsewhere. read more

The Quest for the Ultimate Bicycle Part 3: I've definitely got a big love for this shop as I got my first road bike here three years ago and they've taken excellent care of it ever since. I expected this may be where I would find the upgrade I was looking for. I looked online at their close-outs and specials across all the locations (definitely check this out, some great deals!). As far as road bikes go their main brand is Trek and they also carry Orbeas and Raleighs. They carry some Konas for mountain bikes and cross bikes too. I didn't see anything online that would work, but I eagerly went in to check out their new stock. I was helped by the man who sold me my first bike, but unfortunately they didn't have anything in my size in what I was looking for. They called around and found some options at another location, so that was considerate. The store has a small parking lot if you don't arrive by bike and there is a small area behind the store where you can test ride. It's flat, but also quiet and safe. Every employee in that store was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I did find an amazing deal on a pair of shoes that were heavily discounted and they had a good sale on gear and pedals as well so it wasn't a total bummer that I didn't find my dream bike here. -THE CRASH- Head on, 22mph into another cyclist. Miraculously the bike and myself were mostly ok. The rider that I hit, not so much. With no helmet, the rider had an up close meeting with the pavement knocking them unconscious. WEAR A HELMET! -THE NEED- It's usually a good idea to have your bike looked over by a professional (friend or paid technician) after a good crash. -THE CALL- Called Bike Gallery. Was met with courteous, enthusiastic and accurate pricing and availability. -THE DROP OFF- With pre-crash needs looming I decided to pull the trigger. Was retrieved out of line by a technician (Wade). He was clear eyed, professional, looked me in the eye and read my personality type correctly. He took the time to let me know that my bike would be in good hands. He went over most of the components on the bike WITH ME. The alternative would have been to look it over quickly without communication, throwing it in a stable with the other bikes and sending me on my way. He was interested in my budget, style of riding and overall needs as a rider, tailoring the replacement parts to those needs. I was impressed with the level of service and how personable the technician was. -THE BEST PART- Wade took time to go over the unknowns of servicing a bike, the possible additional expenses related to my situation as well as the likelihood that there wouldn't be any additional expenses. SHOOTING LOW WITH THE INTENT OF DELIVERING HIGH! I cannot stress enough how professional and reassuring this is in a business model. If someone is promising you the moon with statements of "SAVINGS" and "FREEBIES"... run in the opposite direction and find a service company that is real. -THE RESULT- Picked up my bike when they said it would likely be ready for the amount that was quoted. After visiting this location a few times I'm convinced you cannot judge a book simply by a few pages. Granted everyone here isn't the most glorious examples of customer service there are a few shining stars that help put a shiny cover on the spine. Theron is one of those pages that helps define the book! Not only was he very welcoming and attentive but he was also a wealth of information when directing us to who is the most knowledgeable about which aspect of cycling in the store. Which brings us to Eric. On my most recent trip to the Beaverton location Eric was hands down head and shoulders above the rest. Of course I'm making this comparison without having come in contact with anyone else in the store but these reviews are about over-exaggerating to prove a point on most occasions any way right!?!? Nonetheless, Eric was terrific! He had plenty of inference derived from his experiences and was patient enough to slow down and explain in a manner that was easily digestible for the lay person who didn't speak bike tech. As far as the shop itself, the prices are a little steep and many of the items can be found at slightly more affordable prices which becomes a deterrent. However, when it comes to bikes, with the right sale and the right brand this would be the place to go! read more

I needed a new bike. My trusty Trek 730 that I've had since probably 1994 was starting to show its age. It had been getting progressively harder to ride for some time now, and today I noted that I was getting significant resistance while biking DOWNHILL. Well, that was it, then end if it, I needed a new bike. My friend recommended the Bike Gallery in Beaverton to me, because she knew I liked Trek bikes and she had a good experience there. When I walked in, nobody tackled me trying to sell me things, which I liked. I roamed around a little bit, and when I was ready for help, I asked for it, and got cheerful and helpful service. I was especially impressed that when I mentioned that I wanted a low-end bike that I still got cheerful and helpful service. I ended up buying what was probably the least expensive bike in the place, and tortured the service department endlessly for help in tweaking the bike so that it was comfortable. They were cheerful about it, and didn't treat me like I was stupid (which I have experienced at some bike shops as a nearly-middle-aged woman who actually is somewhat clueless about bike mechanics, but not actually stupid). So, in conclusion, nice people, lots of bikes, and a happy new bike day for me! read more

Really hated having to buy a bike from these guys. Sadly they had the best fitting bike my wife found. If it weren't for Kaia from the Woodstock store we certainly wouldn't have purchased anything from these guys. We spent $1500 on a bike and they gave us a hard time about putting pedals on it until we decided what pedals to purchase after we got a few miles on the bike. In the end I will say the guy helping us came through getting us some test ride pedals for free until we make up our mind for clip-less pedals but really these guys DO NOT want you to enjoy your in store experience. They also charged for the water bottle holder which River City did not for a similar priced bike purchased in the same week. We had to negotiate to get a free water bottle with the purchase which sounds ridiculous because it is. Honestly they really turned us off and if we hadn't gone to the downtown store after a nice kid helped us there and then to the Woodstock store and gotten help from Kaia I can honestly say I'd never go back to any Bike Gallery I don't get how these guys do business this way. Make some changes you have some time while we collect on our free maintenance on this new bike to convince us we should give you more money before we take our business anywhere else. read more

I "yelped" this shop after purchasing a recumbent trike on craigslist. I was nearby, and it was after 5 pm, but I hoped they could do a checkup and set up to insure the trike was road worthy. They checked and adjusted everything and sold me a front and rear light as well as a flag, aired up the tires, test rode it before and after service, lubed and tightened some lose bit, and installed my purchases, and only charged me for my purchases, not the tune-up or labor. My husband went in to find a derailleur hanger for his bike, and it was obvious that they aren't interested in selling parts. They want you to not know how to fix your bike, so they can charge you and up charge you to do it for you. They were not willing to look up and find the screws to go with it! After that, my husband went to the hardware store and found the correct screws on his own within a few minutes. I also personally don't like going there, because I feel like I'm ignored because I don't look like a typical "cyclist". I'm the wife of one, and I DO have a bicycle, and so do my children. That is quite a few bikes, considering my husband has more than a couple too. I recommend Performance Bike Center in Beaverton, where the people are always nice and actually care about helping you out. read more

I have had a number of bikes worked on at the Bike Gallery on Canyon. They have done excellent work in a timely manner. Recently I had a squeak in a new bike I got online (not bought from them) and they did a bottom bracket maintenance since it was not put together correctly. The squeaks (intermittent) were stubborn since the y started mid ride and needed my Clydesdale wattage to bring them out. They took the bike in 3 more times and finally got it right without any additional pay beyond the BB maint fee. While one might think I would be ticked that it took 3 trips, for me it was pleasure. Each time they were welcoming of me (and my web bought bike) and got it all fixed with great attitudes. I have move plenty and worked with a lot of shops and some can be real pissy about bikes they didn't sell, or rip you off for simple maintenance. These guys are great. read more

I drove down here yesterday to pick up a bike, I had looked on their webpage and they had three that I was interested in, I'm a pretty big fan of Trek bikes so I intended on going home with one of them, I walked in and was greeted by a young lady, she asked me what I was interested in and I told her the three models I wanted to lol at and one of them was on a display right in the middle of the showroom, we talked about that one for a moment and I asked about another model as we headed toward where it was she walked away and started helping another customer, I looked for the other models on my own and decided I was most interested in the model 1120 I could not get help after that so I left without a bike and a 200 mile drive to boot. And now no one will even respond. If you want your parts to arrive in good condition, and want good customer service, I recommend you look elsewhere. I was a long time customer of Bike Gallery, knew the repair and sales personnel well. Bought my bike there and had it and my other bikes repaired there. Great place. Then they sold to Trek. Much worse. My Trek Verse bike wasn't shifting well. Brought it in. Waited an hour. Left. Came back two weeks later, waited an hour again, and a service guy got free. Said I need "Level 2" service for about $140. Ok. Fine. Got my bike back a week later. Worked for about a month and then, again, stopped shifting into the right gears. Do I want to go back? Not really. But then, today, I get a recall notice for my bike's pedals. I call to make an appointment. Get the usual "Your call is important to us" recording. Sit on the phone for a few minutes, then "Sorry no associates are available" and Trek hangs up on me. Ok...well. Time to find a new bike shop. Sorry to see the old Bike Gallery go. As a heads-up, this review is in response to one interaction that I had that was particularly good, rather than an over-view of the store. My rear tire was getting low on tread and picking up a lot of glass on these shitty beaverton roads, so it was time to swap them out for some fresh rubber. I ended up picking up two new Continental Touring Plus tires that were on sale for only $20 each, which is even cheaper than Amazon sells them for. However, two days later I decide that I just can't stand the tires. They might be virtually puncture-proof, but that's just not worth giving up speed, handling, and comfort for. So I called the store to see if they could do anything. Now normally Continental tires are a non-refundable item at Bike Gallery, but the employee who answered the phone listened to my plight, and immediately offered to talk to the manager. The manager responded that they would work with me to get me some tires that I actually enjoyed. In exchange for the tires I'd used for two days, they gave me a discount on something higher quality and did the labor for free. I'm super happy with this shop and their customer service. read more

It never fails to receive stellar service from anyone in this joint. I'm a loyal to Bike Gallery after the many great Experiences I had at the downtown location and after relocating to the Westside I was super happy to find this location. Lucky for me it's conveniently located on my daily commute route so I pop in every so often to grab something which leads me to the motivating factor behind this review. Two days ago I received a flat on my morning commute in the dark. I threw in a new innertube, charged it and it was I carried on with my day. Knowing that I needed to purchase another innertube and a couple more CO2 cartridges I swung in there this afternoon on my ride home. As the staff was bringing my tire pressures up to spec it was quickly revealed that I had actually had a sidewall blowout when the recently replaced tube popped! Being that I "conveniently" left my debit card at a local establishment downtown the week before I was left with only the cash in my wallet, which was less than what it cost to replace the tire & tube. Without hesitation the staff quickly replaced my tire and tube and accepted the money that I did have in cash as a form of payment in full. Although I was only a few dollars short, the fact that they handled everything so seamlessly and without question really makes me feel like they focus on taking care of the customer even if it cost them a couple dollars. Needless to say, I'll be heading there tomorrow to pick up my intended items as well as another tire that was amazingly priced. A prost to the staff! read more

We bought two new bikes for our grandsons on Amazon. The reviews said they were 'easy' to assemble. My husband and I gave it a go. I took them into the Bike Gallery to have kick stands added. Billy at the Bike Gallery, very diplomatically said "Um... ma'am, I think we're going to have to a safety check on these bikes before you take them home." I said "REALLY?". Well it turns out we'd installed the handle bars backward, among other things! They reassembled the bikes for us at a pretty reasonable price, and then installed the kickstands. Originally, Shell said she couldn't possibly get to the work for 5 days. But when I told her they were for my cute little grandsons she said she would try to get them done sooner, but not to get my hopes up. Now, usually when a retailer says this to me, I just assume I'm not getting the product until the 5th day. Lo' and behold I get a message the NEXT DAY, that Shell has rushed the order and finished the bikes. That girl is an angel!! I had a GREAT customer service experience at Bike Gallery and felt their prices were reasonable. I highly recommend it. read more

This was by far the worst bike store I have ever been in in my life. Never before have I felt so unwanted as a customer. Upon entering the store, none of the staff greeted me, or helped direct me to the right section. Once I got to the road bike section, there were already a two sales people there helping two other customers. That was fine, I was perfectly patient to wait my turn. But after both of these interactions were finished, both sales staff just ignored me and left. I then waited up by the bike I wanted to look at, alone, for at least ten minutes. No one came to offer to help me, or take the bike off of the wall. After ten minutes, I went down to the service counter, and waited another five minutes. In full view of at least half a dozen staff, none of them said anything to me, or offered me assistance. In my full half hour in the store, I was not once offered help, or even acknowledged by anybody. This was by far the rudest sales experience of my life, and will be taking my bike purchasing dollar to another store. read more

The Bike Gallery has perhaps the BEST customer service out of nearly all of the west-side Bike shops. They have very knowledgeable and friendly sales staff who spend as much time with you as you need and they are very attentive to their customers. Their prices are high, as some have pointed out but they are also selling brand-name bikes and don't have any generic or severely outsourced product in-house. This to me, is plenty of justification alone for their price-points. I would state that their service prices though, are a bit high considering what other shops offer for the same or less price. My guess is that this means they are probably paying their bike mechanics an actual livable wage. I consider Bike Gallery's Service on par with taking your car to the dealership instead of an independent mechanic. read more
