Store communication could be improved- I called a few times, and no one answered the phone during posted business hours, and there was no opportunity to leave a message. This place is awesome! I have lived around the corner from this bike shop for more than 3 years, yet I never even knew it was there. I almost trekked down to Flying Fish before I checked the Google Maps and saw a bike shop closer! I rode in here the other day, just hoping that a technician would help determine if I was sitting on the bike properly. When I told him that my gears were a little sticky (and by a little, I mean VERY), and that I wasn't sure if I was sitting properly, he graciously guided the bike to the back where he gave me a solid little tune-up FOR FREE! I don't really know what is entailed in order to call a service a "tune-up", but he oiled up my kickstand, helped unstick the gears, put air in the tires, and raised my seat to the level at which it should be. He did all of this without any expectation of selling me on something - he even told me that despite the bike being a bit small for me, that it works perfectly fine and that it didn't really need anything extra. Feeling like my seat could be a bit more comfortable, I asked him to show me some bike seat covers, and he pointed one out that was $20.00, so I went ahead and bought it after fitting it onto the seat. Now I have a more comfortable ride, and I can confidently recommend the service department at David's Cycle World. I would love to give the service tech credit for his kindness but I honestly cannot remember his name, and like a doofus, I threw the receipt away. Anyway, I would definitely check out David's Cycle World for all of your bicycle service needs, or just for some solid professional riding advice! read more

I went in looking for stocking stuffers for my avid cyclist Dad on Christmas Eve. I was greeted immediately by a super knowledgeable guy who did not dismiss me when I told him I was looking some gadgets and had practically zero knowledge of what to even look for. He gave me some space to wander until I looked lost looking for the register. This is a high end neighborhood with some attitude to match swirling about -- so I was blown away by how low-key and friendly the staff was. Blown.Away. I enjoy that they have a policy where you can get your bike (purchased at the shop) checked out to ensure its "ride ready" once a month. The shop only features new Trek bicycles but often has sales or has previous year models on sale. The store carries cycling clothes and accessories, bike locks, bike trailers, and etc. the service department accepts bikes of all kinds. As my Trek bike was stolen, I know have a "beater" bike that I get serviced at DWC. The guys that work at David's World Cycle are approachable, knowledgeable, and helpful regarding suggestions or information regarding your bike. Bought two bikes here recently. I was impressed with the prices (below what I saw online), the limited free lifetime maintenance package, and the return/exchange policies (money back within 14 days, store credit up to 30 days). To be honest, I've been in this store a couple times, and the first time, I did not get helpful customer service. However, the other times I went in were great. One employee, Colin, was incredibly helpful. For instance, I came in today about 10 mins before closing with several questions about changing my order up. Colin answered all my questions thoroughly and gave me solid advice, translating how different components would affect my ride in terms that someone with very limited knowledge about bikes could easily understand. This is a pretty cool shop located off Macdill, they sell bikes and fix bikes plus sell accessories for bike riders such as shoes etc.. they even have energy bars and other things to get you pumped when you go bike riding for those that are big time bike riders and need that boost to ride for hours. I took my bike to get it checked out because it had not been ridden in awhile and now that I live downtown I ride it almost everyday. They looked at it and everything was fine and they even put air in it for free. Good staff, friendly and knowledgeable. They have some great bikes in there some ranging as much as $5,000 . Great place to check it out if you like riding bikes they also have cheaper bikes for mountain riding, or racing or even some old school bicycles. You can find bikes of all sizes and colors if they don't have what you need you can go to there website and ordered it or I am sure they can do it for you. Meh. They offer a decent election of new bikes but are severely lacking when it comes to accessories. Services are very closely with tune ups ranging from about $150 to $70 for the most basic service. While Outspokin will install accessories you buy from them for free, David's will charge you for the install. Overall, not the friendly neighborhood bike shop that I am used to but I have been to worse too... hence the three-star review. read more

I rented a Trek Emonda S for the weekend and was very impressed with the bike and staff. I was not expecting them to put so much time into checking my fit and setting up the bike properly, so that was a pleasant surprise. The bike was well maintained and included all the stuff you need for a longer ride (spare tube, tool kit, pump, etc.). I truly felt that I didn't need worry about the bike and could just enjoy the experience. I had zero problems during my rental period. The staff will keep me coming back to this shop. They are all clearly bike people, and their enthusiasm shows. They have extensive knowledge of their products and where to ride in the Tampa area, all valuable attributes to someone looking to get into the sport. First of this site needs a phone number where people actually answer the phone. I tried calling for a week to see if our bike was ready (after dropping a grand on a new bike the week before) and never once did anyone answer. So I went to the shop and waited outside with another gentleman for over 45 mins. Never once did anyone come out to check us in or ask what the issue was. Finally I got in and told the guy I was only there to see if my bike was ready!! He said it had been ready for 5 days and gave me ten bucks off since no one called. He also said they don't have enough people to work so phones go unanswered. 35 million unemployed in this country and you can't find anyone to work on your vacation hours from noon to 6pm four days a week?!? Haha comical. Went back today to give them one last chance bc of the convenience and waited 30mins in the heat and no one came out so took my bike to Outspoken Bikes down the street and walked right into the ac where they have at least 10 people working and was in and out in 15 mins with my tire repaired. Needless to say after dropping 2k over last 2 months I'm done w David's and taking my business to Outspoken. So if your tired of waiting outside in rain and heat give them a try! read more

I have been to David's World 3 times and all times have been horrible experiences. Firstly, I ordered a beach cruiser that was delivered to me, which I brought to David's World for assembly. When I picked it up, both the technician and manager commented what a loud bike it was. I thought is was an odd comment, but assumed they had the expertise to know what they were talking about. After riding it, I knew this noise could not be right. I brought it to Flying Fish to be looked at. They fixed the problem as the crank screws were reversed which allowed the cranks to slide, which was making the clicking noise. Secondly, since Flying Fish was closed down, I brought my son's bike to David's World again. He has a bmx bike and the rear tire had popped. I noticed on my son's bike that it was excessively worn in one area, versus even wear and tear through out the tire. I then thought something couldn't be right, so I brought it to the technician's attention and showed him a slight raise in the rim, which was obviously catching the break pad and wearing the tire in one specific spot when it caught. The technician said he didn't think that would be the problem, but he would check for sure. When I went to get the bike back, he said the rim wasn't the problem and he only replaced the tire. Oh, and he put a much less nubbier tire on the bike, which surprised me after seeing how my son uses his bike. Thirdly, 3 WEEKS LATER, my son's back tire was blown again. It only had 1 spot where it wore through. I was adamant this time that I wanted a new rim. (By the way, I was never offered a discount for them making me waste my money on the first new tire!) They told me it wasn't a problem to order a new rim and the bike should be ready by Wed of the following week. On the following Thursday, I still heard nothing, so I called the shop and they told me it would ready today as he just handed the new rim to the technician. I go later in the day to pick it up. I was in disbelief. The new tire and rim was about 1/2 the width of the front tire. It was completely unacceptable...it was like having one fat front tire and one skinny back tire. When I addressed this, another tech did agree it was unacceptable and they would fix it. However, he told me that he could only order a thicker tire, but it would have to go on the same thinner width rim. I asked why? Their response is that they were limited with what they could order through their vendor, unless I wanted to go with a rim that cost over $100. I told them to just give me the bike and I would get it fixed elsewhere. 2 more things in regards to the last debacle: 1) they told me the skinny tire was on the bike because it is what they had in stock and I wanted it to be rushed. Apparently, when I called them Thur (the day after they had it for over a week and said it would be ready Wednesday), they apparently put a rush on it at that time. 2) when I did call that Thur, I did mention that On Bikes event was that upcoming weekend and expected to have it back yesterday (Wednesday). So, this must be "the rush" they were referring to. When in reality, if they ordered the right tire at the time they ordered the rim, it would not have been a problem. Needless to say, my son did not have his bike for On Bikes event, so we had to miss it. Nothing, again, was offered for this inconvenience when I brought it to their attention. I ended up brining the bike to another bike shop and it was fixed perfectly with the same width rime and exact same tire. But he way, the rim only cost $50, not over $100. My son has been riding with the new rim and tire for almost a month now, and it still almost looks perfectly new with slight, even wear and tear through out the tire. At the end of the day, my experience with David's World is they are simply a retail shop, with a nuts and bolts department. It did not seem like a service department that actually know bikes or has attention to detail. read more

David's World Cycle, I call it the Trek Bike Shop but either way it's great. I purchased a Bike there a few years ago but didn't think to write a review at that time, they were terrific then as well, but recently have had opportunity to stop there a few times this Summer. First they assembled my Bike that I had to take apart to transport on a long road trip, taking it apart was easy. I asked that they put it all back together and give it a tune, which they did pretty quickly and called me when it was ready as promised. Lastly this week I stopped by to put air in my tires and the fella (James) in the repair department noticed that my Chain was loose. He offered to fix it for me, so he stopped what he was doing and put my Bike on the rack and began to remedy the situation. As they were making a quick fix I heard them mention the chain was worn, my Bike gets a lot of use, almost daily. So I asked if they thought a new chain might be needed, they said it wasn't a bad idea, so I decided to go with it. I said I could leave it or bring it back later and they said not to worry they would do it right on the spot. They took care of it pretty quickly, put some air in the tires and gave the entire bike a quick once over and I was out the door. The price was just what it should have been and I was completely happy. I've bought a few bikes from them over the years and have kept coming back. While their prices have risen for service I will say they absolutely stand by everything they do and do it to a very high quality which matters a lot because one can't have a bike failing on a busy road at high speed.
