I was visiting Brandon, FL with my mom and when we drove by here, she made sure that we stopped. She was telling me all sorts of stories of visiting here over 30 years ago! How nostalgic! It is amazing to see small businesses stay in business for so long. That is really telling to the product and the service. I loved the old school feel of the establishment. Everything now a days is so modern and rigid, but not this place. You really feel like you are thrown back in time. There was plenty of seating inside and outside. It also had a drive-thru. Upon entering, we were greeted right away by the 2 young workers behind the counter. I had been craving a rainbow sprinkle ice cream cone so badly. I ordered a waffle cone with vanilla soft serve ice cream covered in rainbow sprinkles. It was so good. The cone tasted fresh and cracked nicely so you know it was not stale. The location looks so vintage. Like a drive thru where they come out in skates so I was hoping the desserts would be more tasty than it was. One of the perks that my family and I have always appreciated is the daily deals they have, with banana splits being on sale on Tuesdays. Today I ordered 4 of them because I brought family from out of the country and I watched the girls behind the counter hand pick the best looking bananas for us, even throwing away one they peeled and noticed had some browning on it. Had delicious lunch here the other day I went through the Drive thru and order a Kraut Dog meal with onion rings and a small root beer and we also got a Zebra cone. The lady working at the window was ready with my cone but the food needed time so I pulled to a spot and waited. A few minutes went by and my food was ready. They walked it out to me. And I ended up parking and eating. Their Kraut Dog is my favorite! It's right there, off State Road 60, at the corner of Parsons and Robertson--an adorable little ice cream shop/time portal. I believe the family-owned business has been there since the mid 80s, but the building it's in has to be mid-century and I'm here for it. It was vintage when I was a kid-and I'm vintage. There's soft serve and hard ice cream, in cups, cones and waffle cones-they also have sugar-free, no-fat and non-dairy, plus tons of toppings. You can also get malts and floats, or shakes in an incredible number of flavors (I'm so intrigued with black cherry and the marshmallow!) And then there are the dandy bars and frozen banana with nuts, all kinds of sundaes and banana splits. Again, it's like going back in time-to all the good stuff you had as a kid or wish you'd been born earlier enough to have had as a kid. I have loved this place for years, I have even be known to drive 30 minutes out of my way to get a Zebra cone, unfortunately lately I have noticed the quality and the service has not met my expectations. I went through the drive through ordered a medium Zebra cone and a marshmallow milkshake, they inform me that the ice cream is in 2 different machines so they can stack it, I said just make it chocolate please. I figured that would be less hassle for us both. Well $12.02 later she hands me my shake then I look through the window and her comes another girl with my ice cream cone, I say to myself I know that's not a medium cone and about that time you can see where the other girl tells her to put ice cream in it. A few minutes later the drive through door opens up and she goes to hand me the cone. It has chocolate ice cream falling out over the cone at least an inch and one good corner in the car and the whole thing will be in your lap. I looked at it told her I didn't want it as it would fall into my lap while trying to eat it and she gets loud and tells the other girl she doesn't want it wants you to take it off her bill. They took it off my bill and 3rd girl gave me a receipt and looked at me and said I don't know what's wrong it must be the heat, really I'm sorry it wasn't the heat it was the fact that the girl who made it to begin with messed up and instead of starting over just made her first try worse and she tried to pass it on. I'm sorry Campbell's but do better! These are thick all beef hot dogs and they are tasty. Service is friendly. The dining room is fairly small with just a few tables indoors but there are tables outside under the porch. Overall, our experience was expensive for subpar food. $16 for 3 chicken tenders and a handful of fries? I'd rather run through a McDonald's at that point. in addition, my friend ordered the exact same thing and got 2 more chicken tenders than I did. Because this place is so tiny and tucked away off the main street of Brandon Blvd, I have been hesitant to stop by a try in case the food was mediocre. I placed my order via the drive-thru so I wouldn't have to sit outside on a bench and wait. Early evening at this time, cloudy with thunder in the distance. I was greeted immediately, very friendly sounding voice. I ordered a chili cheese hot dog, a large order of onion rings, and a brownie sundae with no peanuts. After paying at the window, I was asked to pull over and my food would be brought out. It wasn't a long wait at all and again the server who brought my food to me was friendly. After confirming several times that no beans were in the chili *yuck* and that no peanuts were in my sundae, I took my food home to roll out and enjoy. The hot dog was so plump and tender that I closed my eyes when savoring that first full bite. The bun was soft, but not soggy and the chili taste was just right. Not one bean in sight so I was so happy! My brownie sundae was also prepared as asked, no peanuts. BTW, I'm not allergic to peanuts, I just don't like them. The onion rings, oh those onion rings. I absolutely love a good onion ring. I crave good onion rings. These onion rings are fantastic! They have the delicious crunchy hand batter, not that frozen crumbly crap that gets caught in your throat and sweet juicy onion inside. I've been told that Campbell's Dairyland is a long standing staple in the Brandon community. I've been told the ice cream they serve is spectacular and that the food is also pretty great. When I mentioned it to my girlfriend, a life-long, born and raised Brandon resident, that I wanted to go, she wasn't overly excited. She had been before and said that it was ok but still just a fast casual, mom & pop Dairy Queen type place. Either way I was intrigued and we went! It was quiet when we arrived, a few other people dining in and taking out. By the time we ordered our food, we were the only ones there. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and my girlfriend got her Go-to buffalo chicken sandwich. As we ordered, the staff was very pleasant, mostly young people. After we ordered, we went and sat outside. I liked the ambiance and simplicity of Campbell's. To me it's better than any Dairy Queen. It has character and a hometown local history. The outside area has a small, outdated but unique play area for kids. It was weather worn and rusty. The covered seating area had ample room and was clean. A few minutes after we sat, my name was called for our food. I went back in and grabbed the tray. The burger was pretty fantastic. It was juicy, medium sized with decent seasoning. It had ketchup, mustard, pickles, lettuce, tomato and was seated on a nice soft bun. It wasn't the biggest burger I've ever had but I'd go get it again. The fries were also satisfactory. They didn't stand out as the best fries I've had but they were good. I doused them in ketchup and finished them all. In the end, we were too full for ice cream. We were really happy with everything about this place. 7 orders of ice cream, everyone got exactly what the wanted, and it was $35. Felt so good about the value, left a REALLY good tip. My husband and I couldn't help but get the Crispy Nestle Ice-cream which is pre-made and put into the freezer to the left of the cashier. My husband ordered their burger with fries and I got their wings in medium sauce. Both came at $10 but only his came with a side and drink. Burger: He absolutely loved it. Said it was exactly how a burger should be made and I mean, he loves burgers. Fries: Absolutely seasoned well and delish! Wings: The sauce was a little too sweet and "barbecue-y" for me. It tasted tangy and I don't know if they added any BBQ sauce but I wasn't a fan. I only ate two and gave the rest to my husband. Crispy Nestle Bar: It looked amazing! The vanilla isn't the creamy type, it's the white vanilla type that isn't as creamy so I was sad that it didn't come out the way that I hoped. Their ice-cream flavors didn't seem to pop out to me too much but that wasn't a deal breaker either but I definitely will have to give it a shot the next time we come back. Great local business that has a drive thru! This review is for their ice cream treats only. Campbell's Dairyland does serve up a lot of Americana grill food too, but we were there for ice cream only. Just of the main street is this little drive thru that has been around for decades (and sort of looks that way). They have a revolving menu of hard ice cream flavors, and they also have vanilla or chocolate soft serve as well as some form for Dole whip (flavor varies). My kids tried the rainbow sherbet and smurf flavors. Both were full of disturbing artificial color and were too sweet for me, but my kids approved. I had a root beer float. They serve this by default with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry. I'd skip the sprinkles in the future. The float was okay. They used the hard ice cream, but soft serve probably would have been the better choice for fast drinkability. It was too sweet for me, but it was nicely creamy. If you're in the area and wanting a sweet treat, this is a good choice that will be supporting a local business. Prices are reasonable for not being a chain. Service was pretty darned efficient, and I loved not having to get out of my car. read more

Well, I started in on the Whip while driving away and I said to myself "this tastes like Flintstones vitamins!" I looked down at the Whip in puzzlement as I was trying to determine what exactly I was holding in my hands. My eyes began to play tricks and I couldn't decipher if the color I was looking at was orange or yellow. I took another stab at the Whip. Hmm....what is this? Then the pistons fired in my mind. Flintstones vitamins...vitamins...vitamin C....Florida...Florida oranges...orange. The Whip was orange flavored. I was thinking it was going to be the flavor of pineapple as I've never had a Whip in any other flavor but alas, it was not. It wasn't disappointing but honestly, it just tasted like orange sherbet so it wasn't anything special. I won't be getting it again unless it's pineapple but otherwise, if you catch this place at the right time, the food it reasonable, and the staff is normally friendly. In the evenings they tend to be really busy as everyone wants an after-dinner dessert. Plus, you know how those "other folks" always seem to have their ice cream machines down historically at the peak time that people want dessert, so do yourself a favor and don't waste your time going to the "other folks". The gentleman at the register knew I was sitting in spot 1 this entire time. After I called now the manager comes out to explain. That's a bit backwords.
