We ordered takeout by phone. When I arrived to pickup the order I was told they had sold out of chicken. 7pm and no chicken. So I opted for the plain cheese quesadilla instead. this had to be prepared while the other orders sat in boxes and steam. I waited about 15 mins for the food but then I had to wait for the manager to adjust the bill. I stood there with 2 bags waiting to pay while the manager was outside playing with puppies. I finally pay finding out my bill is $90, for 2 quesadillas and a burrito with a side of chips and salsa. They added a takeout charge and a tip. No napkins, no utensils. Food was warm and soggy and probably the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. I threw out half the burrito. The chips were also the worst tasting I have ever experienced. I know everything in Big Sky is overpriced and I get it, but you expect service and quality. read more

For what this place, it really hits the spot. The tacos are tasty and the guac/salsa with chips are a great starter. I love the variety of fillings and that they offer both corn and flour tortillas. I always opt for the corn. The vibe is casual and fun. Service is wonderful. If you're searching for the most authentic Mexican food, then you might be better served elsewhere. We were looking forward to visiting Tres Toros Taco & Tequila in Big Sky after hearing good things, but unfortunately, our experience never got past the front door. When we arrived around 5 p.m., I noticed a sign near the entrance that read, "Everyone is Welcome Here except I.C.E." with additional commentary beneath it. Seeing that felt politically charged and out of place for a restaurant, especially when all we wanted was a relaxed dinner with friends. After discussing it, our group decided to leave. I politely told the hostess we were leaving because of the sign, and she replied, "Oh, you must've voted for Trump. We believe everyone is welcome here." I responded that politics shouldn't be part of dining out, and she said, "You can take your business elsewhere." We did just that and went to Alberto's instead, where the food was great and the staff was kind and professional. If you're looking for a welcoming environment focused on good food and service rather than political statements, I recommend Alberto's over Tres Toros. read more

We went to the new location in Bozeman and it was wonderful! The ambiance and decor are rad. Even though it was only their third day open, the service was excellent--super friendly and very accommodating with menu substitutions. They even have vegan cheese, which was such a nice surprise! Tres Toros is located in the Big Sky Town Center. It's got a cool ambience with the center of the restaurant primarily being a bar area. After a long day of hiking, we ordered the chips and queso as well as the queso fundido as appetizers. Both these appetizers were pretty disappointing as they were exceptionally bland and far from traditional Mexican queso dishes. The queso seemed to simply be made out of white cheddar Velvetta cheese mixed with a bit of Rotel and was served luke warm. The queso fundido also appears to be velvetta or similar processed cheese based and lacked any real flavor even with the beef mixed in. I also ordered a birria taco and pork belly taco. While I thought both were also a bit bland, they did not skimp on the taco fillings at all. They were stuffed with both beef and pork belly independently. The pork belly tasted decent, but lacked the typical mix of crunchy exterior skin and fattiness/stickiness that usually accompanies a well prepared pork belly dish. Instead, it was just chewy as if it had sat around for awhile. The birria was both tender and juicy... but lacked the flavor and spice I am accustomed to, even when dipping it in the consome. Story time: We were in town for a wedding and stopped in with a party of 5 for a quick bite before we had to get ready for the evening. My friend has a very specific diet due to allergies and our server did not care. The server was also bar tending, so she was probably overwhelmed, but we waited so long for her and then she was borderline rude to us. She didn't bring us plates or silverware and we were literally scared to ask her for some because we all felt like such an inconvenience to her. Our server (wife of the owner) was so honest and kind, we loved her! Their food is all made to order so just know that most things on the menu take some time. This is definitely a sit down and enjoy yourself spot. As a non-drinker, I was so happy to learn they offer a non-alcoholic classic margarita, with non-alcoholic spirit. It's always a big plus when restaurants have NA spirits, rather than just club soda for their virgin cocktails. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. It was my first time seeing a whole wall of chili sauces, so I was impressed. If you love your spicy, they've got you covered. Probably the worst Mexican food I've had in a long time... but being a California resident my standards are high! I got the taco salad and it was completely flavorless. I was expected cut/cubed steak but it looked more like pulled pork and really didn't have any beef flavor. There wasn't a good sauce to tie it all together. They give you a tiny amount of this strange sweet sauce that didn't go well with Mexican flavors at all. The table got some chips and guac/salsa to share as well as a fundido. All very mid. Like probably could have gotten better quality at a chilis? My coworker did say his quesadilla was good though so maybe that's the way to go. They had a big wall of hot sauces that serves both as a display and also you walk up and choose what you want. It was cool in concept but a few of the bottles were expired and tasted stale. Connected to my hotel (Wilson), it was only a few steps from the elevator- so why not? Ordered chips with salsa and guacamole followed by three tacos - carne de res, pork carnitas, and classic chorizo. The chips were nicely seasoned and the guacamole, the pico de gallo, and the red and the green salsas were excellent. All three tacos were very good although they were served lukewarm so the corn tortillas could not hold up to the filling - especially the steak and the pork as they were soggy (from sitting too long after the chef has put them together?) and fell apart very quickly. If it wasn't for that disappointment I'd consider a 5 rating. The service was good - standard but not seemed like they were in a rush. No real follow up to ask how was the food. Nice ambiance. Ok so hear me out. We got done skiing at Big Sky, didn't catch the lodge in time to grab food so when we left we were hungry. We wanted a more traditional dinner, looked on Yelp because why not, and not much else was open until later/5 pm... we didn't want to wait another hour so we looked at the ratings and reviews of this place and decided to give it a go. We honestly thought we were coming for the Birria but what actually stole the show was first the stuffed Jalapeño's. Umm mas por favor!! Then I had the Pork Carnita taco with the mango salsa which usually I'm not a big fan of sweet salsas, and I was licking my fingers clean from the yummy juices. My husband had the Mahi Mahi taco which was great but I still liked mine better. We both finished off the course with the Birria tacos which rightfully were in 3rd place. And to end, we had the cream stuffed churros. Also delicious, but quite the ones you get fresh in Sayulita MX a few weeks ago but we were rather full by then anyway. Staff was awesome. Tres Toros is fun! The food was pretty good. It's a great place to meet up with friends for chips and dip. The tacos are good, some are definitely better than others. But overall, this is definitely a place that I would come back to! The bartenders are always on it! I got this pineapple margarita with mint, and it was so delicious. I think they're also under-staffed, so service was slow but the staff was really nice I shouldn't expect a lot from Mexican food in Montana I guess but what was the worst was getting food poisoning from my tacos.
