Selection has always been ample and rarely have I had to take a trip down to the nearest big box store to get something I couldn't find here. Very helpful staff and packed shelves can be found here! My wife and I have come here often for small items that we need for home improvement projects. It's nice to come here instead of dealing with a busy, large home improvement store, searching through aisles and aisles for what you need. What I like about this store in particular is that the flow of the store makes sense. You have your home goods and holiday items up front, to the right is paint and wood items, to the left is light bulbs, tools, and screw & nails. We've come in here for very "obscure" items that we were expecting to find. Large screws with wall anchors, very wide washers, liquid nail glue, and specific types of bug traps, and we've found it all here at this ACE! We may have needed a bit of help to find these unique, one rack items, but we still found them! read more

There is something special about this Ace store in particular. This place seems to consistently hire wonderful people who know their stuff. Just recently bought a house so we've already made a few trips here. We had an issue with the sump pump after a big rain and the guys in their plumbing department took the time to walk it through with us and explain the technical side of how it operates and the common failure points. After that one conversation we figured out what was wrong and we left with the correct part. I am happy to report that the sump pump works again and we haven't had any issues. Should we run into any more plumbing issues, we will definitely be returning to talk to these guys! The customer service here has always been exceptional- friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Masks are currently being enforced. They do have a box of the disposable surgical masks available for anyone who might not have a mask. Social distancing is also enforced. Immediately Upon entering, I found a gentleman to help me with the particular item I was looking for. He showed me a couple options for what I needed and I was out in 5 minutes. One would think that one Ace Hardware Store is the same as any other Ace Hardware Store; but one would sometimes be wrong. While the things they sell may be the same the real difference comes down to whether or not the staff actually know their stuff. This is especially true if you have wandered the long aisles of the big box stores looking for someone to help you find what you think you need. The people that work at your neighborhood hardware store were often hired because of the knowledge they have; that can be a competitive advantage for them. First, it is much easier to find someone and when you do they actually know stuff, useful stuff, about what you are dealing with. Also, they can usually suggest alternatives for accomplishing what you need to get done. This is my go to store in my own neighborhood that always has what I need. The Staff there is extremely customer oriented. I am always greeted by someone when I walk in the door and asked if I need any help. You don't get this type of service anymore in most stores, particularly the big box stores. They even had the solar eclipse sunglasses which I was able to purchase prior to the eclipse. The cashiers are extremely friendly and always scan my debit card for me so I don't have to run the card through the machine. Not sure of the gentlemen's name the last time I was there, but he had white hair and a goatee. Very helpful. Also salute to Lamar who always goes out of his way to help the customer. Woman with the straight blonde hair who is a cashier is always awesome as well. This store is a winner in my book. read more

The staff is wearing masks, but not the owner. She promenades around the store, maskless, like she doesn't have a care in the world. Meanwhile there I am, cancer survivor, heart-stent-haver, with a less than 50 percent chance of surviving COVID-19 and she's proudly announcing to the world that she Does. Not. Care. About. Others. The screen I had replaced there works, but the utter disdain for public health personally displayed by the owner has pissed me off. If you're justifiably worried about catching COVID -- and care about your fellow Americans -- there are many, many other places to shop. Came in for the first time a while. They would not honor a price on a posted sign. Very clearly a price posted, but the young manager disavowed his stores sign. Cashier had some pithy , although rude, suggestions on what I should do. Amazing what a store will do, without realizing they are losing a customer who spends over $10,000 a year at a competing hardware store. We had a horrible experience on Christmas Eve. We rented a rug doctor and upon return, which was early, the manager gave an over the top inspection. He was looking for any excuse to charge us for the deposit. We had to take it home and hose it down hoping it was to his satisfaction. We will be shopping at the big box stores from now on. Sad. Had to write a review for this hardware store because how good and professional they treated me here. My daughter broke a picture frame glass which was 26x43 which is pretty big piece of glass for a frame and this was the only place that had it. But it was the customer service from Dennis where I have the 5 star to this place. Dennis was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took great care of me. Even take a step above to help me put it in my car and set it up so I can transport it back without any problems. The glass was also very decent for the price. Remember the commercial where the logo was (or maybe still is) "Ace is the place with your helpful hardware man"? Well, it is certainly true at this Ace location. The service people are very friendly and helpful here and you don't need to wander all over looking for someone to help you find some gadget or another. I always happen to make a trip here when visiting town. It's great to have a hardware store nearby to pick up something small instead of heading to the big chain stores. My mom needed pool shock and it was half the price (on sale) of others places. I also picked up some small items like all purpose sponges for washing my car for $0.99 each. My mom also uses Trevarrow's plumbing services. She has always been happy with their work and they show up when they say they are going to show up. This independently owned store is the kind you want to support. They know the meaning of customer service. read more

This place has severely gone down hill since Chick (the previous owner) left the business. Absolutely no integrity with the current owner. My parents got ripped off with their water heater installation last year and it seems that Trevarrow has lost that one aspect that made them great...good customer service. It's a shame! read more

I ended up buying more paint at an ACE Hardware on 14 mile near Main and they had no issues mixing me exactly what I needed when I handed them the color template with my colors circled. I finished the painting of my home, although Trevarrow's mistake blending the mixes ended up costing me for 2 more gallons of paint and many more hours of time painting. On closer scrutiny I figured out how they messed up-I had circled the paint codes on the template of what I wanted and the Trevarrow employee blended me the codes JUST BENEATH the codes I had clearly circled in ink. The colors were close to my original order, but off just enough so it was painfully obvious when painted side by side. When a paint mixer is handed a template with the circled paint codes and mixes another code, it's absolutely ridiculous. Never buy mixed paint from this place, you don't know what you're going to get. Particularly troubling is my original Yelp comment has been on here one month and I've yet to receive any kind of acknowledgment on this complaint. Very disappointing. read more

Great full-service, neighborhood hardware store. Like Libby, I like the fact that it's independently owned, and I've always found the folks here extremely helpful. I've got a number of hardware stories closer to me, but I'll often make the trip on out to Trevarrow because they seem to be far more likely to have what I need (specific furnace filters, cleaning supplies, grilling supplies). I use Trevarrow when I need to have keys copied, and I've also had excellent service from them when I've done things like had them make me replacement screens for my screen doors. read more

This hardware store is great. I recently moved to this area, and my local store used to be an ACO. I didn't realize how bad I had it! That store and its staff were pretty lame compared to this ACE store. If I need lumber or power tools or lawn equipment, I'll generally go to one of the big stores. But for a quick something I need (light bulbs, a paint roller, etc), it's so much easier to run into a small hardware store. This store is great. They have a lot of staff working, even in the less-than-busy hours. Since this store is new to me, I don't really know where everything is yet. Each time I've gone, I've needed to ask for help. About 1 second after I think that I need to ask for help, I see someone right there to help me. One employee in particular has helped me a few times, and he's great. I thought I needed a new part for my toilet, and after describing the problem, he told me how to fix the problem in about 30 seconds without buying anything. I went home and it worked. This place has tons of stuff; way more than other small hardware stores I've been to. But it still "feels" like sort of a good 'ol mom & pop store. All of the staff is super friendly. The prices are about what you'll pay anywhere for any given product. But I'll continue to go there for the customer service and selection. read more

When I was in junior high and high school there was this girl who worked there. She was very cute. She had long curly blond hair. She was the kind of beautiful that a junior high kid hopes his friends don't notice. As I come to find out, no such luck. Every dude I knew had a crush on this girl. She was a proper nineties girl. I ended up going to high school with her. We both liked the band Alice in Chains. I use to fake race her down Stephenson. The kind of race where you'd pass cars up to about 55 mph, weaving in and out of lanes. I once came out of school to find fliers on every windshield in the parking lot. I went up to the closest grocery store and grabbed every flyer at the entrance. I then went back and put covered her windshield with them. She thought that was pretty funny.............. This hardware store seems kinda pricey, but there are friendly people working there that are eager to help you and answer any questions you have. They probably have a proper answer. So I guess you can go and get a better deal at home depot, or you can find an adolescent thrill and good quick easy advice at this place. read more

The store is well stocked clean and brightly lit. but unfortunately the staff will just simply ignore you. I walked around the store for 15 minutes looking for someone to assist after trying to find what I was looking for,but the only people visible were a cashier and a group of people behind a window at the back of the store. I finally stood in line and ask the cashier for assistance looking for weatherization for my windows and he had no idea what I was talking about. After receiving the questionable look did he ask a co-worker who then told him what it was and they pointed me to the right direction of course they did not have it in stock so that was 20 minutes of completely wasted time. well this is the most convenient location I will start driving further out to get better customer service. read more

Stopped in to purchase furnace filters- when I got to the register I was told they weren't on sale so I submitted a $7 coupon. After coupon didn't work I was told they were on sale after all and I couldn't use my coupon. The coupon saved me $3 more than the sale. I asked to speak to manager, Bob. He denied the coupon, was condescending and unwilling to offer any compromise even after the kind cashier explained her error. I was terribly disappointed. I am a big fan of this hardware store. My family has been going to this place for over 30 years and I plan to continue this tradition so long as I live in the area. What I love most about this place is the fact that it is not massive, but it large enough for me to get pretty much any tool, part or spray in about 5 minutes. Moreover, they have been in the community for so long that they have things that are common to the houses in the area. For example, I have a pitless sump pump that is manufactured by some small time business in Southfield and they sell replacements there. Also, the prices are very competitive with the Home Depots and Lowes in the area. Most importantly, I love the general vibe of this place. It is hard to explain, but this place just feels like it has more soul. If you live in Troy and need to fix, replace or exterminate anything, there is no need to go to one of the monster stores and deal with the crowds and massive aisle. As others have mentioned, it's the knowledgeable staff here that puts this place above and beyond the big box stores. If you don't see an employee in the aisles, you go back to the service desk in the back and they will help you. I haven't had complicated problems (am not a DIYer) but have seen others helped. About that service desk, it's usually manned by only 1 or 2 guys and besides advise they make keys, write-up plumbing orders, sell individual hardware parts (something broke and you're missing a part?, go here). What I really depend on with this store is their plumbing service. I've had practically all my cheap builder-provided plumbing fixtures, sinks and toilets replaced in my house over the years by their plumbers. Some plumbing thing breaks my modus operandi is go to Trevarrow's pick something new out (asking questions of handily available service desk) and schedule their plumber to come out. Last item I had done was a toilet replacement, and the toilet was competitively priced. Their plumber was quick (they bill on time) and very professional installation as well. They have kept up with the online shopping trend.. You can shop online at the Ace site (using online Ace coupons/promotions) place your order and if this store has the item, you can opt to pick it up there. I did that when I changed my mind and got a higher quality shower head (than I had originally chosen in-store) before the plumber came out the next day. read more

I've shopped at this store for many years, mainly because of how helpful they are even when you don't know exactly what you're looking for. Plus, it's good to support the smaller stores. Well, that seems to have changed. Not more than 2 years ago I went in with a cracked faucet head from our older kitchen sink that was there when we moved in. The name on the faucet was illegible but the man at the parts counter took the faucet and looked in a parts book and found the part. So I just went in to get another one as the one I'd purchased from this store cracked and was leaking (it was inadvertently hit with a pot) and the first person who helped me didn't know the part and barked out to some guy that "this man is looking for a $100 faucet head." Not really, I was looking for this $100 faucet head. The other guy lazily shuffles by me without even looking at the part I was holding and goes and retrieves a $94 faucet that was not the one I was holding. Mind you, the part I previously bought at this store was behind the parts counter, not down an aisle. I ask if it'll work for the one I'm holding and he looks at it and says he doesn't recognize the one I'm holding. I told him I purchased it from this store from someone at the parts counter and he says he's worked that counter for several years and doesn't know what it is. Never once does he attempt to look it up or even try to really help. He said what he was holding was all he had. Nice effort. Thast is the last time I go to this store, Lowe's is more helpful. So much for the small shops working to keep customers from going to the big stores....there's a Lowe's across from where I live and they'll now get all my business. Pathetic effort Ace!!! read more

Poor service. No one is ever around to help. Always smells like chemicals. Poor organization. Poor staff knowledge. Poor management. Products are faulty in make & when you give them a call to have an issue resolved. One of two things will happen: A] They'll hang up on you. B] They'll pass you around to everyone in the store & blame you for a problem. Never offering to resolve it with something as simple as an exchange.. Not like I was asking them to replace what their product broke into. THEN THEY WILL HANG UP ON YOU. Never doing business with them or any Ace for that matter. read more

I have lived around the block from Tevarrow Ace for the last 15 yrs. You think i would come here more often than make the 15 mins trek to Home Depot or Lowes. The fact is that the common hardware stuff, duct tape, furnace filters, etc..., is way over marked here Let alone being forced to buy sub par ACE brand for some items. I'm all for the little guy but some items here are obviously used to boost profit. The final straw was when I took in a previously purchased unopened can of paint to be shaken up, I was denied. They told me they just installed new shakers and said they would only shake newly purchased paint. Really? So I drove to Home Depot and had my can shakened with no questions asked.
