Cheesecake Custard in a Fried Cinnamon Tortilla Bowl. Delicious!!

Fantastic TexMex BBQ in little old Jacksboro, less than an hour from Ft.Worth. Brisket, Ribs, Sausage, Turkey and Sides are all Phenomenal. Service was Fantastic, you won't find better anywhere! Great spot that's bigger than it looks, right on the Courthouse Square. Treviño's Craft Smokehouse is a BBQ Destination!!

Anyone who can create fall-apart tender brisket has my vote! I loved the meat sauce, elote street corn side, and banana crème dessert served in a cinnamon dusted taco bowl. The owners and staff were friendly and made the visit very enjoyable and worth the trip.

Another amazing BBQ experience. This is the best I have ever had. Ever!!

With that said however, I was incredibly impressed with this Subway. I drive by it every time I go the metroplex and never think about stopping, on a return trip recently I changed that. The inside was pretty was very well maintained and extremely clean -- two things rarely found on a highway restaurant. I made my order without expecting too much from the people behind the counter, then my wife ordered for her and our 2 year old. Up to this point, everything was just like Subway always is. Once we reached the table though, the two year old tried to unwrap her sandwich and ended up dropping it on the floor and knocking over my sandwich in the process. It was an honest mistake so I wasn't upset just a little embarrassed. I cleaned up our mess and got back in line to reorder was had crashed onto the floor. By the time I got to the front of the line, the understanding lady behind the counter had remade our order and added a cookie for our daughter. She refused to let me pay for the 2 extra sandwiches and seemed to bless when I thanked her. I absolutely expected to pay for the replacements and rightly so, but this women saw what had happened did everything she could to get back on the road quickly. I was very appreciative of that!

The place is located in an old Fire Department building, cavernous and loud due to the high ceiling and stone walls. No one in the dining area so the noise was coming from the bar area. A few specials on the board, mainly seafood, not unusual in this part of North Texas on a Friday due to the numerous catfish specials. It appeared clean but a deeper look showed baseboards dirty, the tables in the bar are made of roughhewn wood which means they cannot be cleaned very well as the food gets trapped in the crevices of the wood. Bathrooms were clean but there was no water, seems it froze during the night. I was surprised they were open without running water but found out later it was just the bathrooms, there were sinks working in the bar. The food was okay; I had the Chicken Fried Steak and my Wife had the Classic Cheeseburger. The CFS was okay with it's thin breading that was slightly crispy. The steak has some flavor which I liked. I chose the fries over mash potatoes, and they were very good. It also came with thin green beans which tasted okay but appeared to be microwaved. The burger was made from short rib grind which leave sit with a very unusual texture. It was very firm, little fat, and extremely salty. Flavor wise under the salt taste was good, just off-putting texture for a burger. My Wife could not finish due to level of salt. Service was good, kitchen was slow with only three tables and we were the only one eating anything more than apps. Minus one star for the cleanliness and lack of water to wash your hands, and minus one for excess salt and poor texture of the burger. We will skip this place next time.

After an early morning flight to DFW, we were halfway through the two-hour drive to the north-Texas…read moretown of Wichita Falls when lunch sounded like a good idea. Initially, I said that I was in the mood for a lighter lunch, but when we read some of the many 5-star reviews for Juan and Allie's BBQ that said things like "I will always come here whenever I am within a six hour drive", I changed my mind. So we pulled off the highway and about a half-mile into the small town of Sunset. I realized we were at the spot when the faint smell of wood smoke trickled to my nose from the side of a weatherbeaten building with a "Backyard BBQ" banner tacked to the front. Walking inside, we were greeted by nods from a table of men in work boots and jeans, and then promptly welcomed by Allie herself. She indicated the day's menu on the board and helpfully answered our questions. The inside dining area was comfortable and homey, even if like the outside it had seen better days. Sagging ceiling tiles and duct tape repairs told the story of getting by and focusing on the important things. It is a real family-run operation, with Juan smoking the meats and Allie making the sides, along with waiting tables. On the day we visited at least, it was just the two of them working. Of course I had to order brisket since it was Texas, but the sides presented a more challenging decision. After hearing Allie's description of their cowboy beans, I chose those and the potato salad. She disappeared into the back room, and soon returned with a large metal tray containing slices of brisket and Texas-sized portions of sides. The brisket was beautifully smoked and sliced, and flavor was perfect. The only deduction I have to make was due to it being a little less tender than I would expect from a great brisket. It went down easily despite having said I was not in the mood for a pile of meat, but I did have to make use of my knife a little more than usual. The sides were big on home-cooked flavor. In both, I noticed a big difference from typical southern or big-name barbecue joints in that they were not overly sweet but relied on more earthy seasonings for their taste. They were excellent complements to the beef, and deserve some recognition of their own. After our meal was done, we chatted with Juan outside for a minute, where we learned some of the details mentioned above. It would have been cool to hear more about their story, but they had work to do and we had to get back on the road. So we pulled back onto the highway, having experienced a friendly welcome to Texas and a satisfying first meal in the Lone Star State.
