I don't like the low ratings on this restaurant! You are all a bunch of haters! I came here with my friend on Halloween. We didn't know they were going to close early. We asked if they could still serve us and they did. My friend ordered two mini burritos with guacamole and I ordered the shredded beef taquitos combo with rice, beans, and a side of guacamole. They served us chips and salsa first. They were excellent. Salsa was chunky with tomatoes and had some spice to it. Chips were fresh and crunchy but not super hard. I loved them! Our food came out shortly after. Taquitos were delicious! Shredded beef was so tender and flavorful. Beans and rice were amazing as well. Everything tasted homemade. Guacamole was SPICY! But it was SO GOOD. I loved this food so much that we came back the day after. I wanted it before I had to go back home. I will definitely be back soon! read more

Delilah's Plate, Pollo En Su Crema, and Chile Verde Burrito are all fire. Chips are out of a bag and salsa is mid. Service is usually very good and fountain drinks are great! The bathrooms need some upgrades for sure. I hate that they close early on Sundays, otherwise we might eat there more often. Who wants to cook on a Sunday night! lol read more

Family run place that has been here forever... we had to try it! Service was very friendly and always checking on us. The crispy chicken tacos were made with all white meat chicken. The carnitas taco was good but the carnitas were a bit dry. The fish taco was AMAZING!! A huge portion of fresh grilled shrimp. The fajitas were sizzling and delish. The house speciality of creamy chicken and peppers was good. I loved all the white meat chicken just wish there was a bit more spice in all the dishes. However we did ask for hot sauce and that spiced things up! The house margarita was good but don't order the skinny margarita... it costs more and I think had more sugar then the regular margarita. read more

Service was slow throughout the entire meal. The food was bland. The beans were watered down. We asked for the check which never came and we had to track down two other people in order to get it. Started off with a watery Pina Colada. It looked decent enough topped with whipped cream and a cherry but the whipped cream was the only thing giving it any flavor. The chips were warmed up but definitely tasted out of a bag. Salsa was good and not too spicy even for the kids. I ordered the taco bowl with "grilled" chicken. It was awful. I have bought bagged chicken before with those caramel markings making it looked grilled and it looked and tasted just like it. The chicken was beyond dry and tough. It was not even edible. Cucumber was warm and dry and there was a pool of what looked like refried bean juice at the bottom of the tortilla bowl. Came with the smallest amount of dressing sour cream, and guacamole. They were served in little plastic throw-away cups. The guacamole was hotter than any avocado blend I've ever had in my life. I gave it to someone else at the table who likes spice and even they said it was way too hot for them. It was hot today and the place was not cool enough. They had a big yellow industrial fan pointed at the dining area. No way. Never again. read more

I decided to take my family out tonight and Trevino's was the pick for tonight. Unfortunately, mid-way into our dinner, my 10yr old nephew was holding something in-between his fingers. I asked my nephew what it was, he states, "a hair." I continued to ask, "from where? He says, "my mini burrito, it was inside of it but I pulled it out." (mind you there were 4 witnesses, including myself at this table). My fiancé notified our waitress (who has brown, reddish, blonde hair) and she went into the kitchen, and then another gal (who seats you) came back apologizing and ask if she can take it. We gave the long strand of hair back to her on wax paper(from the basket of chips) and she went back to the kitchen and was back there for a bit. Few minutes later, they went to the register, talking amongst one another, saying, " take off his plate." (my nephews plate of food) Then the owners youngest son, (skinny, Hispanic, light-skinned, about 5'10ish) came to the table, apologized, and states," the hair was red and we have no one with that hair color who works here." My fiancé went ahead and asked him to check the cameras( which were facing our side of tables) to show him we as a family never touched the plates, because our waitress (with brown, reddish, blonde hair) warned how hot they were. The young gentleman claimed Trevino's had none. My fiancé pointed them out, and then nothing else was said besides him asking if we're going to pay for the remaining balance. Mind you, whether the hair was red, purple, brown, or gray the gentleman was making an accusation, instead of taking responsibility for the situation. I, as a customer have auburn, reddish hair, and felt offended and let him know I'll pay the balance but to be aware we will no longer be returning due to his arrogant comment, and the fact he was willing to lose a loyal customer all these years. read more

Nothing better than sitting in a large booth with warm chips and fresh salsa, cold Pepsi and a water, just anticipating your plate of choice. My plate of choice is Pollo en su crema. Oh man that's good. Comes with fresh hot home made tortillas, rice and beans. Almost everyone I come here with has a different favorite, I think that's impressive. Here are a few favorites. Chile Relleno burrito, Alex Sr. Burrito, Beef Barbacoa (Beef soup). One of my favorites about this place is the restaurant itself. Lots of booths, original Mexican art on the walls, just a cool old downtown building. The food is delicious, portions size is good. Wow!! What a hidden gem!!! Treated like family once we entered through those double doors!!! Ordered Micheladas!! The best ever !!! Also ordered Carne Asada and Guacamole which was made fresh this morning. To close our visit, we ordered Margaritas which were unbelievable!! I called and spoke to Alex. He was so very kind enough to drop off an order of Menudo, to my cousin that is residing at Merced nursing facility. My cousin stated that their Menudo, was very very delicious. My family and I are so very appreciative for Alex, and Trevino's. Great service and quality food. We were waiting for our movie to start and need to kill time so came here to have chips and salsa and a michalada . This was our first time here ,as it was covient cause it was across the street from the show. First look when walk in look like it could use some updating but was very big in side. Now the chips and salsa was good but they put it in a small plastic container wich was hard to dip ur chips in and not much of it either .But the michalada was DELICIOUS!!!!! . A downtown Merced must! Trevinos has been around forever and their food never disappoints. I highly recommend the Chile Verde or the Pollo en su Crema. They do close super early and have hours that aren't very clear or specific otherwise I would have given them 5 stars. Highly recommend. read more

After a day of travel we landed at Trevino's. I remember eating here as a kid, apparently my palate has grown up as well. My wife and I ordered a couple different plates, that we shared. When I saw the food come out I knew I'd be disappointed. Boring, gringo friendly "Mexican" food. During our California road trip I had to seek out some exceptional Mexican to make up for our stop in to Trevino's. The glass murals are way more memorable than the food. Drinks were undrinkable with cheap, watered down liquor that gave me a headache. I had ordered the margarita because I literally picked Mexican food for the great margaritas and was shocked how bad it was. The food was not seasoned and the enchilada tasted like day old meat wrapped in a tortilla with a little sauce on top. Not sure what the use to serve but I promise they don't serve the "4 star" food they use to. The service was really good tho so I gave 2 stars for that. read more

Solid 5 stars. Ate here JUN 01 at 3PM. And it was quite busy. Which is always a good sign. Even though above average busy- server was attentive. Food portions are off-the-chart big. I have family in Pleasanton and in Mariposa, so Merced is a great halfway point. Trevino's is my aunt's favorite place to stop in, so we obliged on this particular visit and it was your typical Mexican cuisine. Nothing too special, but dependable. Trevino's is located on a corner in Old Merced so just the age of the building adds character to it. If you walk in from the parking lot in the back (with plenty of spaces), you immediately enter the bar area. The bar was pretty big with seats lining the wall as well as high tops throughout. I was catching a sports bar vibe, but then when we walked into the main dining area it felt more like a restaurant. We were promptly given a basket of warm chips and some fresh salsa. You could tell these were actually made in-house. Very yummy! My aunt was raving about the chile verde, so I ordered a tostado with that on top. There were generous chunks of tender pork mixed in the tomatillo sauce, swirled with sour cream and lots of lettuce. Piled on top of the tostada was warm refriend beans and plenty of cheese. Overall pretty standard yet tasty Mexican food. I would visit again but wouldn't go out of my way to do so. read more

One of our favorite places in Merced. Service is wonderful. The enchiladas patrol (shrimp enchiladas) are awesome. Love the margaritas. Trevinos has been a staple on Main Street for as long as we can remember - 35 years at least. So many good restaurants have come and gone in this town - including good chain restaurants. Atmosphere: Park either in the back parking lot or street park anywhere downtown. The main door is at the corner of K st and Main st. The door in the back parking lot is the entrance to the bar. Inside is kinda dark and has an old restaurant feel. Customer service: They attend to you for menu, water and ordering, but when busy, they seem to lose track checking up you. Can't really raise your hand to call for help either because they don't look around. Food: Chips were chips, salsa was bland and tamales were dry. Mexican rice was too soft and soggy, but when you eat it, the middle was still kinda hard. The refried beans were sadly the best thing that night. I tried their menudo and it's was good but spicy. My BIGGEST complaint is that when I was there I saw their lunch menu. No where on the menu does it say weekdays only. I had taken a picture and literally double checked before placing my order. I drove all the way over (about 15 minutes) and I see they're charging me dinner time price because they don't do the lunch menu on the weekends. When I explained to the manager and why she should honor it, all she said was do you want it or not? She refused to give me the lunch price! It was the own restaurants mistake for never clarifying weekdays only. They could have done a one time only thing but no! Ik for a fact I'm not the only person who's had this confusion before yet they don't change the menu. Ordered take out and it was good. It was prepared quickly and it was fresh and hot. The beans and rice were basic but that is good in my opinion because good solid beans and rice are the staple of any mexican plate. The flour tortillas were obviously home made and were delicious! Carnitas were good, have had better but still enjoyed. They packed a large bag of hot chips and a giant container of salsa which we really appreciated! The lunch was a perfect portion for the price.
