Round 2 coming up... I will be getting my second tattoo from John next month and felt like I owed it to him and the shop to mention how great the experience (and my tattoo) was. First off, this is not a small parlor despite what I read in someone else's review. The front waiting area is small but this place extends back for miles. Not that that really matters but what does matter is this place is CLEAN! From the moment you walk in you can tell this place is sterile and well, hell, awesomely decorated (again, doesn't really matter I guess but it just is). No flash art on the walls here people - so come in with an idea, even if it's a basic one. As I mentioned, I am going back for round 2 next month. The first time I went in was to cover up some old work and John did an amazing job...nothing left of my 19 year old brain's cool idea of butterflies and vine. Gone! (Nothing against butterflies - I just outgrew mine). My brother has been going to John for years, so I had no hesitation that he would do good work and he exceeded my expectations. Not to mention, his prices are incredibly reasonable for the awesome work he does. They have a great appointment system that sends out reminders and while they do require a deposit for any appointment, they are great if you can't make it and need to re-schedule. (Deposits are non-transferrable or refundable, so be REALLY sure that you want that tattoo!) Also, if you use your credit card they do charge a 3% fee, so cash is better. The staff is also incredibly helpful and polite - whether behind the desk or not. They have a pretty large staff of piercers as well as other tattoo artists and all seem incredibly talented and open to whatever it is you want to do. They also will caution you against what they think will or won't work. I definitely recommend this place and all the talented people in it. read more

I have 7 tattoos, getting 1 per year from 2007 to 2012, all in different states from different artists. After my niece passed away in May 2015, I decided to get my 7th tattoo after my brother and his wife wanted matching tattoos in memory of their daughter. They came out to visit me in June 2015 and so we looked around to find a tattoo artist. After a brief search, we decided to go with Ben Granillo because his story was that he liked to work with people and get to know the story. Although short notice, he got my brother and his wife's tattoos done even though we showed up almost at closing time. Ben made it a great experience, and I ended up working with him on the one year anniversary of my niece's death to get mine done. He did an amazing job even through my giggling fits for the 5-6 hours it took to complete. Although I have multiple tattoos, none of them were swollen quite like this one. He was kind enough to tell me the signs of it being infected and put up with me sending him photos of the swelling. Vinny is amazing! He possesses the unique ability to collaborate and design permanent art with another artist. Let me start by saying I like the process of collaborating my ideas to come up with a unique concept and design for my skin. Most artists have a hard time working like this but not Vinny. Vinny can take my concept and work with me while making me feel comfortable with the process, he is honest in telling when certain aspects may not work and the pros/cons of making one decision over another. This is critical to establishing a long term relationship with your artist. The shop is clean, organized and eclectic. The front desk staff is always helpful and willing to take a call. The employees they select directly reflects in all areas of the shop they are talented top notch artists, friendly and organized pushing them to the elite of tattoo shops in the City. The art in the shop is one of my favorite things to explore each time I have an appointment. My favorite is the antique theatre chairs but I might be biased on this. Very clean and organized! Super friendly and I was able to pretty much walk in. I talked to Kristie and owner John on the phone about my idea and when I came in an hour later Kristie was all ready for me. She made me fell comfortable and has a very soft touch! First, I must say these guys and gals are extremely professional. My family took a trip to the Denver area for Spring Break. Four of us wanted ink, but of course we did not make an appointment before hand as we were unfamiliar with the shops in this area. They squeezed us all in over a two day period even though their schedules were pretty tight. They had to do a bit of finagling to accommodate us all, but they did so with the utmost professionalism. Levi Paul tattooed our Son, Levi, did a great little Ted bear--his first "non-serious" tattoo. My husband and I had matching sugar skulls done by the owner, John Slaughter. Masterful work, great saturation, brilliant color, in short the most amazing work--and fast. Our daughter sat through her first tattoo, it was a fairly large piece on the back of her thigh. I cannot say enough about the compassion and talent Mr. Teddy Nigels possesses, and I cannot think of a better artist for my daughter's first tattoo. First class establishment. I could not have been more satisfied with my experience here. When I first came to see Tanner, I did not have an easy task for him... I had two awful experiences with the tattoo on my ribcage before I finally found Tanner. Tanner was essentially tasked with putting a cover up tattoo over the cover up that was already there. Before Tanner helped me out, I was incredibly self conscious of my body and never wanted to wear anything that would reveal the tattoo on my ribcage, but Tanner helped me out more than I ever could have hoped for. I recently was in Tribe to discuss a design my husband wants to have done and was greeted by friendly staff in a very clean and inviting atmosphere. Two of them chatted with me about the design for a good amount of time and I'm thinking that this place will be my next shop to use personally. I haven't been tattooed by Tribe, but I did get pierced there so I wanted to offer up my thoughts. I felt like getting my nose pierced one day and Tribe is in the neighborhood. Tattoo places can be really intimidating, especially when you're just going in for an amateur piercing. But the staff was really friendly and put me at ease right away. Chelsea was my piercer - she was a sweetheart and did a great job. The price was in line with other shops I've been to. They provided a really detailed care instructions sheet for my new piercing, which I appreciated because I'm totally OCD about keeping it clean. Chelsea also called me a couple weeks later just to check in and make sure it was healing ok. It was nice that they took the time to provide good customer service, even if I just came in for a simple piercing. read more

It was a great experience overall, he was easy to talk to about the design of the tattoo, was very patient during the process - the tattoo is on his ribs which is a difficult placement, and even stayed after hours to get the tattoo done in one sitting. He was able to take a classic symbol and made it even more meaningful by adding color and his personal touch to it. I asked for a custom design for my tattoo and he blew me away. He understood exactly what i was looking for both in design and in color. I can't wait to get there on Friday! I moved to Denver in February 2013 and took a lot of time to find a new tattoo artist, as I had a very specific person I went to back in Georgia. After looking at several places and their portfolios, I decided on Vinny at Tribe. My boyfriend and I made appointments and were able to send our tattoo ideas in via e-mail so the artists were able to work on them in advance. Upon arriving, we were treated very kindly and all our information was entered in the system, so we would not need to provide it all again next time (because there will be a next time!). Vinny greeted me and showed me the artwork he had, which was awesome! I did want to make some changes though and he was very receptive to it and redrew it for me. The whole experience was wonderful. Vinny's area was in the back so I got to see a good bit of the shop (it's a lot bigger inside than I thought it would be). Because my tattoo was on my chest and shoulder, I really wasn't able to see it until it was done. I was so impressed! It is more beautiful than I could ever have imagined! It's all black, and the shading work is simply amazing. The price was very comparable to what I would have paid my previous artist, and the quality of work was exceptional, so I was happy to hand the money over. Literally would not recommend this place to ANYONE!! I'm not usually the type to talk badly about local businesses whatsoever and especially ones that have independent artists but I've had the worst experiences here. It started with me getting my industrial piercing here, I got it done over a year ago and it still has not healed. I figured it was because it is notoriously one of the hardest piercings to heal and if I continue taking care of it with saline it'll heal eventually, right? It still has huge bumps and starts bleeding randomly. It was a lot of money so I'm still hopeful but after my most recent piercing experience there I'm starting to realize it may never heal. Now let me say that I know what I'm doing with piercings, I'm at piercing #10 and have not had issues with any other piercings I've gotten done at other shops in the areas. I don't touch my piercings with my hands at all if possible and use fine mist saline spray 2x a day. I decided to get my second nostril piercing here about a month ago and everything was going fine until it got a small bump. I put a tiny bit of distilled tea tree oil on it and next day I wake up with it hideously infected. Im talking dried pus up the entire side of my right nose. I went to the shop to inquire about what I should do and they told me it was simply an allergic reaction. I went to urgent care after and after taking one look they said it was most definitely an infection and prescribed me antibiotics. Now I have an infection on my face that prevents me from wanting to leave my house and I am $200 down on this one piercing because I had to buy antibiotics. Also if I had done nothing and not gone to urgent care I would be in so much trouble. The shop has offered no money back and except for a few select individuals everyone there is very entitled and rude. When I went to get a tattoo from there in between piercings the artist was so rude, tried to cancel my consultation an hour before for a $700 tattoo, and I decided to cancel the tattoo then went on to get one twice the size and detail for the same price elsewhere. I am so infuriated by my experiences at this shop and will never return, and I will do my best to make sure nobody else I know goes here. Sorry to the owners but something has to change. Even the girls working at the front desk have always been very rude to me. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

My coworker got a couple tattoos from Graham and after checking out his Instagram I knew I wanted some of his work. I made an appointment and got in the next day. I'm not going to lie I was very nervous but Graham was very personable and outgoing and did the most to make it a quick and almost painless experience. At first, my partner and I would have given this place 5-stars. After going back for our touch-ups, we will NEVER go here again. The tattoo was originally overpriced, but we weren't surprised by this. In fact one of our friends recommended this place to us... Unfortunately, in our most recent experience the tattoo shading was uneven, lines were not straight, and our artists rushed through the original tattoo because they had b2b appointments. We thought no big deal because they can fix it... well not completely. When my partner and I came in for our touch ups, we were very dissatisfied with a part of the design once it healed. We asked if they could just shade the dime-sized area that we didn't like with black while they were doing the touch up. They said they would charge us $100 each to do this, even though they were already touching up our tattoos. They said it's a new piece on top of the original and it's "store policy" to charge $100 each. After paying $300 each for a tiny tattoo (and tipping the artists each $50), we were not going to pay them another $100 each to fix the part of tattoo design that they drew. In the beginning, they drew it and the tattoo looked better on the iPad. It looked very different on our skin and we were dissatisfied with this small part of the original design. They didn't care and were still going to charge the $100 each. I want to point out that we weren't necessarily upset with having to pay something for the small shading; however, we were upset by their lack of caring and their "take it or leave it attitude" when we told them that we disagreed with having to pay another combined $200 for dime sized shading in the tattoo that we were getting touched up. They said "we guarantee our work and if there's anything you don't like we will fix it during your touch up" when we first got them. Obviously this wasn't true... Luckily, we did get quoted elsewhere at $50 each to get the shading that you refused to do for less than $100 each despite already having the equipment, needles, ink, etc. out for our touch ups. You literally just lost thousands of dollars of future business because of poor customer service and "store policy". We each have 10 tattoos planned for this year - one of which is a sleeve each. Maybe next time be more customer centric and care more when customers are dissatisfied with the work that they get there. read more

I brought my friend from out of town, that I hadn't seen in over 20 years, into Tribe. We were walk ins and a little nervous because other shops had posts on their sites mentioning not to waste their time with text and small tattoos. Nothing but smiling welcoming faces as soon as we walked into Tribe! The shop was cleaner than some medical offices I've worked in, the decor was fun and interesting, the artists and staff were beautiful too! Just a bonus. Not once did we feel slighted for not wanting large pieces of art and the whole time we were there was comfortable and nice. Super loved the girl that came by and asked if I needed anything or if I wanted some water or candy... Super cute.. I only wished I had more Money to spend at Tribe that day. Ben is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. He is the best artist I have worked with, and the ONLY one that I will ever get inked by again. He really takes the time to craft together a unique piece, not just one that you see on pinterest/instragram. Ben took my original inspiration and turned it into a tattoo better than I could have ever imagined. He was super patient with me (especially with the shading), and encouraged me the entire time he was doing my tattoo. If you are looking for a tattoo artist that genuinely cares about his clients then look no further than Ben at Tribe. They have very poor policies. I emailed them to make an appointment, they told me to come in on the weekend to do a design. When I came in for the appointment, we didn't design anything, but was told that John would just do the design the day of the actual tattoo appointment. I put my $100 deposit down. I called the week before the actual appointment to see if there was a way to let someone else use my deposit because I wasn't sure if I wanted the tattoo. I was told that wasn't part of their policy, cause the artist has put time into the design. When I told them that it hadn't been designed yet, they said that the appointment for the actual tattoo could have been used for booking other people. They allow you to reschedule whenever though, so it's contradictory to say that the artist is losing out on this if they also allow you to reschedule. I also called a week in advanced, which seems like plenty of time to find someone else. I would completely understand if we sat down and did a design of the tattoo, cause the artist needs to get paid for their time and effort, but we didn't. I ended up losing $100 and didn't receive anything. read more

After relocating from WI, I researched artists and shops. After reading about John and the shop, stopping in and seeing some of their work firsthand, meeting Connie for a consult; I booked with Connie and have done so 8 more times since. Connie has done 9 small, delicate pieces for me now and all drawn up by hand - tiny tattoos and geometric designs - it's really impressive the detail on such small areas/as well as font/type. I've referred to her based on comments and complements from perfect strangers and friends. The shop itself is incredibly clean. Every time. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming - very come as you are and no judging. I've never felt uncomfortable, even when being topless/semi-covered for a sternum piece. There is street parking all around - it's never been difficult to park. Shop is also easy to find as it's on the street corner. Water is always offered, and shop carries all the after care items you need. Let me also add about Connie. 1. She is absolutely adorable and genuine. 2. Her last name is Eagle Horse.
