Great place to get a haircut. The barbers are learning but at the same time have experience to give a full haircut.

Both my hubby and I were walk-in customers. Hubby and I were happy with his haircut and beard trim. Cece was AWESOME for me. She gave me a lot of tips on future coloring(Gonna come back for when I'm ready to go with my usual purple color for the cooler weather. (: ). Also on which products to use to make the most of my curls. Cece actually listens and works with you on your cut. don't waste your money here .. they won't teach you how to cut hair .. this school is a scam . pretty sure a laundering operation .. i had a friend go for one week . they told him he knew how to cut hair and was ready for the test . rushed him threw the program .... now for his masters test he used a mannequin head and did not have to preform a shave . he still can't get a job cause he can't cut hair . this is not the way to learn a trade .... the class they offer for 3500$ you can have any master barber sponcer you for free . these kinda schools rip off new immigrants and ruin the industry .... they will only teach you how to cut if you have the same back round as the owner .... don't go to this school . i used to be a barber. now i workin financial services.. it's so said to see a friend ripped off and now on my free time showing a licensed master barber how do basic hair cuts ... sad read more

Hey there, I am not stoked to explain my experience here but I feel obligated to share my experience in the hope of helping other people who want to learn, grow and be the best they can be in cosmetology So, I started out as a full-time cosmetology student in an 8-month program. The receptionist, a younger Hispanic lady, told me the tuition would be half off when I signed up, which made me really happy and I was all in. But three weeks later, the Jewish dude living in the basement tells me I have to pay an extra 3 grand for tuition. Which if you live in NY and got bills that's a lot!! I was bummed but I did pay what I needed at that time. Then the Russian lady at the front desk kept overcharging me and the other students every week. Save those receipts, folks! Even Mrs. V (the teacher) agrees. As for the staff, only Mrs. V seems to be doing her job. But she's mostly downstairs teaching the book stuff, so she's swamped and alone most days. Miss Sandra, the on-the-floor teacher, just sits in the corner, staring us down and not helping out at all, leaving us alone with clients as soon as we start the school Leaving Customers with people who don't even know what they are doing! the rest of the staff has some seriously bad attitudes and not helpful whatsoever. My time there ended with a student threatening me for no reason, and the school handled it extremely poorly. Me and the girl stopped talking but were able to mend back to a normality in the school, keeping distance. They only checked up on me three weeks later after I tried calling about the situation, which showed they weren't concerned on my safety, bad at communicating and were kinda rude. After I told them what happened and begged them to check the cameras that would've shown exactly what happened , the old Jewish guy living in the basement corner wouldn't. He just said "She never threatened you " "I am Not checking the cameras" ,"I don't need your money, you can leave" So I did and took my business elsewhere PS. They do have a roach problem But don't worry, there are great schools out there! My barber in Rego Park has raised his price from $15 to $20. Now he's my ex-barber. Just twelve years ago, I was paying $9 for a haircut and I'm not going to pay $20. Tribeca Barber School charges only $5, so I decided to give them a try. I was very happy with the haircut. The barbers are students at the school, so I guess the quality of the haircut may vary, depending on who you get. For five bucks, I'll continue to take a chance. read more

You get what you pay for. I've gone twice, the first time the young man was pretty good. Went again today, and just awful. I told the young man not to go very short, I wanted just a cleanup, and I blink and he's got me down to the nub. He had to borrow scissors because he forgot his. I guess the good news was it was $7, but really I should have gotten a full refund. It will grow back, but I'll never go back there. It's like roulette, you may get lucky. But you may not. IF YOU ARE QUEER RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. This place is not safe, and you can get a better cut for the same price from somebody with a license & a general sense of respect for your fellow human. This cut just happened, so frankly I have not even processed how terrible this experience was yet, but I want to protect my fellow queer people. You are not safe or welcomed here. I don't want to trash the cut itself , which is terrible, because it is a beauty school, but the terrible cut aside, this was an infuriating experience from beginning to end from management. Now I can see why the haircut was $5. Never again! Shaking student was there and had no idea what she was doing. My son was the first client since 10:30am, and we got there at 3pm. My other son head was cut open, and my husband's beard was uneven by the man who didn't change the blade from the last person. I went for about 6 weeks when I began to realize how unprofessional this place was and how I wasn't going to learn anything there. The teachers method of teaching is to eat at the front desk while trying to explain to you how to cut hair, while sending you unsuspecting clients that pay $4 a haircut, very unprofessional. I was absolutely aware that this is a salon which makes their students do the work. And that is why I chose to get Deep Conditioning treatment, i thought what can goes wrong with that service, it is so easy. Ladies and gentleman, I thought wrong. Yup, I was so unfortunate to be handled by a student named Samantha. A horrible student. Not only she didn't know how to do it, she was also kinda rude! Yuck. She was kinda lazy when the teacher told her to take me. Then, when putting the steamer, she just turned it on and left it without trying to fix the position to fit my head better. Worst of all, at the end she dried my hair without washing it. When i asked shouldn't she washed it first, she answered, "No" arrogantly, not even trying to check with her teacher. Thank God i asked the teacher later, then the teacher told her to washed and cleaned my hair. I guess from that point the teacher realized how bad this student is, she started to give more attention. O my o my.. I wish there is a teacher or senior who always supervised what the students are doing. And tips for you folks, try not to get Samantha. She is tremendously stupid, stinks attitude, someone who's definitely going to ruin your day. She should've be a cashier in a deli somewhere instead doing people's hair. A four dollar haircut -- you receive exactly what that sounds like. I had forgotten all about this place until I just saw some other unlucky stooge like myself, review it here on Yelp. Yep, I'm embarrassed to admit it but I myself got a cut here once upon a time, once when I was down-and-out and struggling to make ends meet; between jobs, going on interviews and trying to stretch my monthly dollar. The price was all I could afford. I remember being viciously prodded and poked by the scissors of the student who worked on me --not just once, but repeatedly! It wasn't even a kid student it was a ham-handed portly older guy from Hazamazakafafirijirimistan who probably shoulda kept to his job as a taxi driver or something. Oh well. Really wanted to give this place more stars, but my experiences there weren't the best. I've been here twice. This is actually a barber school, & for your cooperation, you'll get a haircut, for a mere $4. The student cuts your hair, then, one of the teachers comes to inspect/ correct the student's work. My 1st visit was decent, but weird (because it was new to me). I don't blame the school for that. The 2nd time, i ended up having to hold my hair, since the kid didn't have hair clips. I thought it was so amateur that a school that teaches didn't have the proper equipment. This place is convenient for me, as it's close to home, but i haven't been back. I opted to take the trek out to Manhattan's Chinatown to get a $5 haircut at one of the barber shops there. *Recommend: if you're going to try this place, ask for a student that's a little more experienced. read more

I have no complaints. I walked in and said I need a haircut, front desk asked just cut, I said yup just a cut and they quoted me $6. My hair was nearly waist length, I showed Natalia, my amazing student stylist, and she confirmed what I wanted and how I usually wear my hair and confirmed again if I only wanted a cut. She explained what she was going to do, confirmed the length before doing the first cut. All went smoothly. Super happy with my cheap hair cut. For whoever indicated that they thought they were getting a wash and dry for $6, that's a bit ridiculous. A dry cut is absolutely normal especially in a place that originated in Manhattan. I've gotten a dry cut during my lunch break in midtown for ten times as much and I am just as happy with it. Just as a suggestion, a teacher should encourage taking some before and after pics to build their portfolio and help them with organizing their kits because she was a little all over the place but that ease comes with time. Tribeca used to have a barber school in Tribeca, Manhattan. I'm assuming that they kept their business name as a homage to their former location. I went there for haircuts and their low prices saved me a lot of money. Then, one day, it closed. I was screwed. Ever since then, my de facto barbershop has been the Astor Place Hairstylist. The people who work there are very good. Unfortunately, it's a little pricey ($18). One day, I was riding an express bus to Manhattan when it passed by Junction Blvd. I saw a sign that said, "Tribeca Barbershop." I died and gone to heaven (not literally). A week later, I went here for a haircut. I have a receding hairline so rather than to let nature take away my hair, I do it on my own volition. As I entered, I recognized the blonde Russian woman who owns the place and a tall, dark-skinned instructor from the previous location. After a short wait, I was assigned a barber. He was an older Russian guy who spoke about 5 words of English. Fortunately, an instructor was there to guide him along. I got a generic shape up. He did a decent job and I gave him a $2 tip. I really wish they stayed in Manhattan since this location is a little hard to get to. Nevertheless, I'm willing to travel if it means saving money. I'd only come here if you want a basic haircut, not a movie star haircut. read more

I was happy first time I saw the business opened, specially after my barber unfortunately died bcoz of COVID, the new one started to charge me much $15 plus he wants tip. So I tried this school, I know they are students, and doesn't cost much, however, out of my 10 visits, only two students did very well, the rest are horrible, terrible, lazy, not serious, and not trained at all. Today I had my last haircut, after his supervisor saw his awful job, he came and started to trim and show him, after he is gone the student did NOTHING. He also cut my ear with his shaving machine... I'm a student at TriBeCa and I can say that I've made the right decision. This school is very professional and the instructors are the best. It's a very beautiful and spacious place as well. All of the students are very friendly and are easy to get along. The past three weeks that I've been here I have learned a lot. The instructors are always on top of you and help you out with everything that you need. If your interested in this type of trade I would say you should search no longer because this place will definitely prepare you to start working. read more

I have the opportunity to stop in here about every three weeks since my work conveniently has me drive around the five boroughs. My haircut is very easy, so it's difficult to mess up. Some students take longer than others, but the result is always something with which I'm satisfied. The price ($4) is a throwback probably to the 1960s. If you have a simple haircut, this is a great option. Incidentally, this location is an upgrade over the old location in downtown Manhattan, which had a higher price tag ($7). read more

The kids cutting doing care if they do a good job at all, they're just there to clown around and get their license. And they're also knowledgeable experts who will tell you you're wrong if you point out something bad in the haircut! posting purely as a male consumer of haircuts every 2 months: i was not aware barbering skills had been reduced to what depth number electric trimmer comb to use on various parts of your head. so basically if you are used to cutting your own hair with a flowbee, you'll feel right at home here paying someone else $4 to do it. i give this review an extra star simply because as a school environment, it appears to be clean, well organized and supervised, full of mostly young paying students who seem grateful for the opportunity to learn a new trade. read more

Honestly, your experience will probably vary depending on what student you get, and you don't get to pick the student. That said, I got my hair cut by Mohammed, and he may as well have been a professional. He was clearly comfortable with his work, respectful, asked questions to make sure I was getting the cut I wanted. A teacher will always check and correct if necessary. We came here Sunday afternoon to cut my son's hair. Greeted by the front desk person and the teacher. We were here before and had a decent experience. Moreover, we are very well aware that these barbers are students and still learning/practicing, That's why we asked for a decently experienced person to cut my son's hair. The teacher politely escorted my boys to their designated masters saying that he will keep eye on and help if needed. They (barbers) started fine with their work and it's looked good from the back , then one of the barbers completely ruined one of my sons front hair , he shaved my boys forehead with the machine in the most ugly shape. We are all were speechless. Teacher did not even helped, some other guys were trying to fix it and it's still looks ugly :( . My boy is very upset and saying that will never going back there again and I don't blame him. Now we have to wait for the hair to grow up so we can do something about it. Terrible. If I could give zero stars I would. They have no idea what they are doing here. No supervision. I went in for a simple 1 inch trim and left with 6 inches off and an UNEVEN cut. I had to ask for another person to step in and finish the cut because the original barber was clueless.
