Do not recommend this place, even though my stylist was great. I made an appointment for my sisters who were coming from out of town for a wedding.They made me put a deposit 0f $50 just to make the appointment. I cancelled the appointment the next morning!! They refused to refund my money. The front staff kept hanging up on me and was very very rude. I never ever heard of a deposit for an appointment. I can't believe they said its their store policy not to refund the deposit.!!!! read more

I had a poor experience at this salon last weekend. It was my first time and I had called a couple of days prior and enquired about prices for a basic blow dry/blowout for shoulder length hair. I was quoted $35-$45. It was a little steep for me, but my usual places were closed for the holiday weekend, so I called the next day(Thursday) and got myself an appointment. The lady on the phone first gave me a noon appointment that I wanted and when I asked how much she said $45. I told her, I had called the previous day and they had said it starts from $35. She said then she would have to put me with someone else. I said that is fine. She then said 10 am, the time did not suit me but I took it as it was a $10 difference! I asked if they would text me a confirmation and she said yes. I got no text. So I called while driving on Saturday morning around 9.55 am to tell them I might be late by 5 minutes and the lady who answered said fine. I rushed worrying that my stylist might be waiting, but it was me who waited until 10.30 am to even get called inside and no apology/explanation. While this lady washed my hair, without any greeting etc, she said haircut? I said no! Just a blow dry. She acted surprised!! Then I said I am not having a good first experience at all at this "high end" salon and she mumbled something and after just one wash(my usual inexpensive spots shampoo twice). She then took me to her chair, spent maybe 12 minutes and was done. My hair is easy, I have always been told that. I gave her a tip and walked to the front. The stylist whispered something to the receptionist and left. The counter lady said it was $45. I was clearly upset now. I explained about my call 2 days in a row and how I took an earlier appointment since this stylist was 10 bucks cheaper ,etc. She would not budge. I was mad but just paid the $45 plus a surcharge for credit card(which they do not mention) and left for a very normal service, at a high price, for a so called high end salon. By afternoon my hair was frizzy and crazy also due to the heat and humidity that day. But I wonder why pay $50 for such service. I will certainly not be returning. :-( read more

While I wouldn't have wandered in here on my own, I followed my stylist Jacki to her new job and I'm glad I did! Since I've been seeing Jacki at Tricho, I've talked to several other friends how go to the same salon. I haven't checked out any of the spa services so far, but they have a good selection of retail products for my hair and Jacki has recommended some great shampoo for my hair. It's not something I would have thought to look for in a salon (since my budget is limited - isn't everyone's?), but Jacki pointed out how long it actually lasts for the price, and how much better it is for my hair. I also love that Tricho is right by the children's play area in the mall. It makes it really easy for me to get someone to watch my daughter right there while I'm being pampered :) Please note - while Tricho takes credit cards for services, they do not for tips. Truly dissapointed. I sent photos to their FB and received no response and weeks later no reimbursement. It was my first time going here and my shellac service was HORRENDOUS. Nail polish was still on from my previous manicure, the shellac didn't cover one full nail and it chipped less than 24 hours later! I also spent a total of $130 dollars. I also followed up a number of times about reimbursement. They followed up once by leaving a voicemail while I was at work. They also had me wash my hands at the dye station....? I am still in disbelief about what a terrible job they did. It's almost funny. I paid for high end service and they gave me the worst service I have ever had. So our 1st time here. I had a nice lady by the name of Cyd and my wife had Christina. We both loved our hair stylists. The place is kinda pricey at men's hair cut at $30 I don't know what my wife's one is. But the concept of hair cutting is very different from all the conventional salons of the past. One comes in here and gets ushered in by one of their beautiful ladies. First thing on the menu is, you get your hair shampooed. They believe it's easier to cut wet hair that lays naturally on your head. Then they cut the hair, then they do a final shampoo and fix any missed cuts. Then they are done. You leave with a sense of a time well spent and a hair cut that you are proud to wear, where folks will compliment you when you get to work the next day..... Impressive! This is how I would summarize in one word my first experience hair make-over in Michigan / USA. I am from Canada and recently move in the city. I found out about the Tricho, called them and I was able to set an appointment the same day. Impressive right? Moralda was my attending hairstylist. I explained the style, length, color and at the end I let her do what she does best. The result was more than what I expected. I am very impressed with the outcome and would definitely go back and look for her again. All throughout the hairstyling I was entertained different topic of discussions. The only oppurtunity for improvement that I would suggest is to be served at the time of the set appontment. Because I have waited for at least 20 min past my appointment. I cannot say enough great things about my experience at this Tricho Salon & Spa. Giselle worked absolute wonders on my hair and left me the happiest I've ever been walking out of a salon. All you blondes HAVE TO GO TO GISELLE! Prior to coming in for my first hair appointment with Giselle, my hair was in the worst shape it has ever been in. After a combination of several blonde colorings done wrong and months of heat exposure, I was left with severely damaged hair. My hair was breaking off at the ends and the texture had turned from soft and fine to very corse and brittle. All of the moisture had been sucked out of my hair and to be honest the ends looked completely fried. As most of us blondes know, it's hard to keep your hair healthy, non brassy, and beautifully heat styled all at once. I've been struggling to maintain the appearance of all 3 for the past two years until I met Giselle. I truly can't say enough great things about her professional hair services. - Giselle was able to brighten my blonde lighter than ever before leaving it a fresh, cool, champagne color without damaging any of my hair. Usually my color will fade after a few weeks, but not after this appointment. If anything, my blonde has gotten even brighter on its own after she colored it! You would never know I was a true brunette... I look platinum! - Often after trying to go lighter, my hair becomes more damaged and dull looking. After my appointment with her, my blonde hair has never looked so shiny and still is over a month and a half later. Not to mention she put a treatment on my hair and my hair has never grown so fast and long since going blonde. I have finally been able to maintain fresh ends even months after my hair cut. - She is so educated on hair health, upkeep, styling and color. I was nervous to trust anyone else with lightening my hair, but her hair knowledge and 10+ years of hair (especially blonde hair) experience blew me away. I WON'T LET ANYONE ELSE TOUCH IT - I've never been able to style my hair as much since going blonde since trying to protect it from damage. I've been able to curl, straighten and blow it out daily without hurting my hair thanks to the way she colored, cut and treated it. - She is the friendliest, most upbeat person you'll ever meet and when you're in the chair you feel as though you're talking to someone you've known for years. I remember when I came here for last time had her do my hair color before my high school reunion somehow it got screwed up by hair colors I without let me decide for hairdo.. Let me start off by saying that I USED to love this place. That has obviously changed. I've spent thousands of dollars in the past years. And I'm not one to come once a month. I was a weekly person up until yesterday. I've been coming here for such a long time and the service is declining every month. There is probably 3 girls there maybe 4 if that which are good and doing hair but thats it. There are many girls here with attitude problems, arrogant, very rude, insensitive to your wishes, self absorbed, and finally careless. They do not care for what you want. I feel like your asking them to do you a favor rather than having them treat you with good service because you are paying them. I'm just done with this place. I wish the very few good girls that are left there the best of luck. The salon its self needs a renovation. asap. read more

This is the worst salon experience I have ever had. After having one stylist turn my ombré unnatural colors, such as green and blue, the manager recommended me to a "senior" stylist to fix it. The senior stylist turned my hair streaky and cut my hair at least 10 different lengths. Not to mention the manager was very rude and unprofessional and threatened to hang up the phone on me. What jerks!! All of them. The hubs and I went for one hour couple's massages twice. First experience was HORRIFIC!! Terrible customer service, and I could have sworn that we spent more time waiting for the massage therapists to prepare the room than getting a massage. Being the nice people that we are, we decided to give Tricho another shot; especially voicing our concerns on the last visit to the manager (she ensured us that we would receive a FULL 60 minute massage). You know the ohm.. fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me? Yeah, well, I felt like one of those suckas the second time we went. Although we had filled out the medical release form (also know as a new client profile form) the first time we visited Tricho, we had to complete the dumb thing AGAIN. I thought that was quite weird. Anywho, once we were done we looked.. and searched.. and looked for the receptionist who usually sits at the desk for clients receiving spa services. No one could be found, until the hubs decided to ask a stylist. After the waiting game, I was totally annoyed. The massage sucked!! She did not even rub the "troubled" spots I indicated on the "profile form". In fact, all she rubbed was my back, some of my legs and feet, and not much of the rest of my body. I made an appointment for 3 people for October 13th. 1 blow dry and 2 simple updos. What a disaster! After 3 attempts at making my updo look normal, I decided to leave. My Aunt ( blow dry) looked like she had been electrocuted and my mom (other updo)had her hair in a curly mess of a pony tail. We ended up going home and doing our own hair! You'd expect at the very least they could cut hair in a straight line. I went in for a haircut, and was out the door within 25 minutes. In that time she apparently had the time to wash, cut and style my hair... Very poorly. Now, if you want a hairdresser with the efficiency of a military barber, this is your place. If you're not concerned with the quality and just want something chopped, here you go. My hairdresser's precision was akin to a gardener using a hedge trimmer to wack off chunks of hair, rather than a stylist looking to craft a haircut. She rushed me out the door and I didn't see the back of my head. When I got home and felt the back, I could feel chunks, here and there, at varying lengths. She'd completely missed certain pieces of hair and half cut others. When I showed my mom, she gasped... Horrible horrible horrible. I'm having it all recut, as I type this. read more

Manager tried to fix it and yes it looks better then it did but I'm still not happy (manager did great with what she had to work with) I'm now stuck with months of uneven color, funky cut and brassy hair. If I could give it less than one star I would. Salon is fairly nice though kind of mall-ish and was super super crowded when I was there. I had an appt with Abby and she basically butchered my hair. After a rough washing (my scalp felt tender), she talked to me for two minutes about what I wanted and then started hacking away. I had even brought pictures in to show her what I wanted to do. When I called, I asked for someone that knows how to cut short hair and knows funky cuts. I am not lying when I say I walked out with Kate Gosselin's do. I burst into tears and ran to the bathroom and wet my hair down and tried to fix it. It is now three months later and I just went back to my old gal. She was appalled at the cut, showing me pieces that were uneven and hacked off. Luckily she fixed it but it took three months and a whole lot of hats to get it anywhere near normal. Steer clear of this place. She is awful. read more

I've had two great experiences here: 1. Wonderful Swedish and Deep Tissue massage from the best massage therapist in Michigan: a Romanian woman (GEORGETA) with hands that make my aches seem non-existent. I've had tons of massages (body scrub, hot stone deep tissue) from all over Michigan and Denver but none as good as I've had here. 2. Haircut and style from JENNY, a beautiful tall blonde lady with a beautiful personality to match. She makes me feel like a million dollar after every cut. I get tons of compliments too the week following my cut, which is nice. You won't wait too long and she doesn't take hours cutting your hair, which is a plus. read more

I'm not quite sure where all these negative reviews are coming from but I certainly do not agree! I had the awesome opportunity to be a hair model for a class that Alex was teaching in the salon. Basically, my hair was a mess. It has been so many different colors and none were ever good. I have had bad salon experience after bad salon experience with color and then more bad experiences at home trying to undo what the salon did. When I went in, I had dark red hair with inky black splotches everywhere. The color was uneven and looked like crap. I also had fairly recent box dye on my roots to cover up what the "stylist" at my last salon did. Believe me, I know bad salons and this was not it. Not only did Alex fix my hair, but he made it AMAZING! He also fixed the flat, lifeless blunt cut my other stylist gave me in about 10 minutes. I went from a dark and red crazy mix of crappy color to bronde in 3 hours. Everyone wants to know where I got my hair done and I am literally obsessed with staring at my hair in any mirror I come across. It is just that good. I experienced several different people that work at that salon. No one at the front desk was rude. It was actually quite the opposite. Everyone was super nice to me and went above and beyond. I also met some other stylists there and I can tell they are all super talented and all of them were awesome. Everyone was happy and just chill - how it should be. At least that's how I like my salons. Tricho has a client for life in me now - I will never go anywhere else. And while I can attest to Alex being an amazing talent and artist (for reals - I swear he will be famous one day) - I can tell you that everyone else there is as well. I highly recommend this place. Don't listen to the negative reviews and just go give it a try! The salon I was going to has 5 stars on Yelp and they are awful - don't listen to everything you read. This place is overrated. There are maybe 1 or 3 at most good hairstylists but the rest are absolutely horrible. Service is mediocre. The front desk seem like they're doing you the favor and tend to you. I don't need that. You have to look good to be "accepted" there. Otherwise they scan you quickly and judge. I feel like it's full of fake people. Men always get good haircuts women not so much. They all too much and don't concentrate on what they're doing to your hair. Lastly, Not very creative stylist when looking for something new. They all do the same colors. Try somewhere else. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because they have a great facialist. read more

It's very unfortunate to post this because I was so hopeful of this Tricho as I was a loyal customer at a different location. I went in about three weeks ago for a haircut and was very impressed. I then decided to go back and get my hair colored. Obviously, with any salon type service, it's not going to be cheap, but for the little amount of highlights and small difference between the before and after of my hair (see pictures), I should have never been charged $180 ($200+ with tip). This is the most I have ever been charged and I just cut off 8 inches of my hair! When I called the manager to ask about the pricing she claims they used four bowls of bleach on my hair, a shadow root, and toner, which is "accurately" priced to $180. I'm not even sure what a shadow toner is or why I got one, and I have no idea how my short hair added up to four bowls of bleach. The manager did offer to have the same stylist fix my hair, but I told her I didn't want to come back to that salon as I feel my relationship with them is tarnished and I would like to be excluded from a confrontational salon visit. I will not be recommending this salon to any friends and I am now on the search for a new one!!! Please beware of Tricho's pricing and be ready to drop over $200 for a very little color difference. Rarely am I impressed with a salon, but I have to say I am really loving Tricho Salon and Spa! The desk is really great, and they're really sweet to you on the phone, and are really good with making sure you can get an appointment. They're open 7 days a week, so you're more likely to get an appointment with someone. I've had my hair cut and colored by a few different stylists, and I haven't had any bad experiences! They were really fast too! The only thing I didn't like was that it gets really busy on Fridays and Saturdays, and it gets a little crowded, but I can understand why. PAULA. Paula is everything. I searched far and wide for a great stylist/great salon and it took me 22 years to find Paula at Tricho Novi. I live in Chicago, and yet ONLY get my hair cut/colored when I visit home because I refuse to let anyone touch my hair other than Paula. I've honestly had some less than ideal experiences with other stylists, but can't rave enough about Paula. She LISTENS - she will never cut off more hair than you want, and is the best colorist I have ever come across. She always makes me look more fabulous than I thought was originally possible. Taking off one star because it's sooooo expensive, and I'm sure not much of the money goes to the actual stylists. Also because the wait times can get ridiculous, and they are prone to cancelling appointments last minute. read more

Been going to David for 15 years and will continue until one of us dies. We drive from Grand Rapids once a month just for the styling and cut. For you folks that disdain the natural look, he is a phenomenal colorist. It is busy and loud, but well worth it. If you can't get into David (which is a definite possibility) I'd recommend Alex. Like any salon, there are various levels of skills among the stylists. You have to find one that works for you. These guys work for us. read more

I have been having my hair colored every three weeks here with Lynn for many years. I am a brunette, and get so many compliments on the warm, dark brown color she gives me. Recently, I had my eyebrows microbladed and later tinted by Fabjola. I am so happy with the outcome! She is Phi Brow trained and very talented. Over the years I have come to know Tracy and Rhonda at the front desk, and everyone at Tricho has been warm, friendly, accommodating and always professional. I enjoy my visits and and have been very happy with the services I receive. A bonus is that they are open seven days a week, and all day until 9pm when the mall closes. read more

IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING YOUR EYEBROWS DONE HERE PLEASE READ! I usually have my eyebrows done at Tricho by Mariana or Ariana. I have been extremely happy with my eyebrows every time they have done them. I went in yesterday to have my eyebrows done last minute, and they said come back at 6:45 which I did and had to wait almost 20 minutes while the girl (who is new) who did my eyebrows was apparently shopping. She arrived with all her shopping bags to get me which was so unprofessional. And it gets worse. Clearly I was the last person of the day and she did a hack job on my eyebrows because she just wanted to leave. She didn't ask how I wanted my eyebrows done (should seen this as a warning, but I have previously had such good experiences here I never thought they would hire someone so unskilled and unprofessional) so I have bizarrely shaped brows and to boot she took a chunk out of my left eyebrow. I was told after that they have had other people complain about her... My question is WHY IS SHE STILL WORKING THERE?! They did refund my money and have me write down my complaints. I am very offended at the manner in which I was treated... The chair they washed my hair was completely wet, and they handed me the towel so that I could dry it myself... I got my hair done for a wedding here by Lizzy. She did a nice job on my hair and I received a lot of compliments. However, the salon itself was quite messy and looked unorganized. While Lizzy curled my hair, I heard two other hairdressers complain about a client while she was in the bathroom, which is extremely unprofessional. I would hope if you're paying for a nice salon experience, the least they could do is to keep their comments to themselves.
