Love the serenity of this location. They have a huge parking lot and plenty of street parking too. I came here on a weekday and the parking lot was pretty much empty. I love that you get to see the water from the shop. I ordered the midnight vietnamese and it was heaven! I don't like MCT oil and was able to replace that with mushroom and it really elevated the experience. Thank you!

I was drawn to Trident for it's symbolism...totally makes sense that it's located by the beach. I'm a health conscious person and was glad to find out Trident Coffee uses health-enhancing ingredients to foster wellness. Thankfully, it wasn't too busy in this naturally lit spacious coffee shop when I arrived. The staff was friendly and patient with me since I was a first-timer. Trident's wide variety of coffee was really unique...especially the combination of coffee and tea. When I saw cognitive mushrooms as one of the functional lattes on the menu, I had to order it along with an acai bowl which suprisingly took a bit to make and noticed it was in a cup. Overall, positive vibes. I left empowered to live my life full steam ahead helping to realize their vision :-) If I'm in IB again, I'll go back for another nautical journey but the next time by trying their popular nitro cold brew. I definitely recommend this veteran-owned coffee shop to the Yelp Community.

A friend introduced me to this place, and I decided to stop by after a doctor's appointment in the area. The staff here has always been cool. The first time I came here I tried the flight which was amazing, and today I went with a cold brew and a keto friendly empanada. I love places that have keto-friendly options. The vibe here is super chill being next to a gym and a bike spot. I see a lot of riders congregate here. I've never had an issue with parking, and there's a dedicated spot for Trident customers. Thanks Trident for helping me stay in my healthy lane. Cheers all.

I had to try their cold brew flight which included: 1. Son of a son of a sailor (Best, flavor) 2. Trident (normal dark) 3. El Capitan (super dark taste) 4 daily rations (for true sailors) Additional to that I had the following food: 1. Matcha/ strawberry donut (vegan non-protein) Very soft donut with a creamy frosting that covers the top and a very enjoyable morning breakfast or dessert. 2. Breakfast burrito Great mixture of egg and cheese. That's great for anybody. 3. Bacon, egg and cheese empanada Flavorful crust packed with bacon, egg and cheese. That's easily shareable since everyone wood want a bite. To top it all off is in an amazing area close to the beach, walking distance from a small kids playground and a beautiful view. Parking is easily accessible whether it's in front of the store or up the street. And to add definitely a place where kids can eat but do not have many options to get drinks.

Nitro cold brew keeps me caffeinated during long work days.

Amazing place, they offer many different types of coffee and so far we loved the horchata latte and the salted caramel mocha. Will definitely come back to try the empanadas and breakfast burritos, the protein donuts sound amazing too. The service Randall provided was so nice and pleasant, he told us about their products and how their donuts are baked and not fried, and also the vegan options and protein contents of their food. The ambiance is really chill, next to a bike trail, definitely will be coming back soon.

Trident deserves another 5 stars from me, they have improved since my last visit! They have a variety of cold brew selections, cold brew specialty drinks, espresso drinks, and even functional drinks. I got the mexican mocha with oat milk and it was delicious! The chocolate flavor was so delectable and worked well with the cold brew. They have upped their pastry selection! I got a lemon poppy protein donut (which they told us has 22-26g of protein!) and a keto bacon and egg empanada. The empanada had flavorful seasoning. Usually keto pastries aren't my favorite since there's no carbs but theirs was pretty good! The unique pastry selection and delicious cold brew sets them apart from other places. The interior is a bit small but nicely decorated and with lots of tables and seats. The place overlooks the otay river/bay area so has some nice nature views!

My friend recommended this place and right off rip I can tell this will be a regular stop for me. The shop itself is so serene and has plenty of seating. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Adrien was so helpful in assisting us with our order. We got the Mexican mocha latte, peppermint mocha latte, and a peppermint chocolate doughnut. The coffee was incredible but if I could go back and do it again I would skip the doughnut or try something else.

This place is tucked away in IB. I come here every once in a while & it's a great place to get your cold brew fix. I love that they have different cold brews on tap. My favorites are their specialty cold brews. The protein donuts are also pretty good, they're not too sweet & dont have that weird protein taste. I tried the Salted Caramel Mocha, and honestly, it was underwhelming. I was expecting a rich blend of house-made caramel syrup with milk and espresso or cold brew, but instead, it reminded me of Dutch Bros--too watered down and overly sweet. The whipped cream and chocolate drizzle felt unnecessary and amateur. I'm sure the other drinks here are fine, but I expect a strong first impression when it comes to specialty drinks. This one didn't stand out, though it has potential. TL;DR: Trident should consider crafting their own cold foam to elevate their specialty drinks. Using lower-quality ingredients takes away from what could be a great cold brew. read more

Super nice workers and a fantastic location. A lot of bicycles ride here to this area because it is right off a super cool path. Unfortunately, my husband and I both didn't like our coffees. They were lukewarm. I got the Mexican mocha which is my favorite back home, but it tasted like warmish milk coffee. We tossed them and wasted $11. read more

Nice coffee shop next door to Novo Brewery and Rad Bikes. They put coffee, kombucha l, and an e-bike store all together with the strand right behind it for biking? When in San Diego... One of the last time I was in IB I stopped here for a cold brew. I got some food too then, I wish I remember what but damn both were amazing! Im so excited for my son to be at the summer camp next door these next 5 days. It was a perfect way to start my morning today. They have lots of options to choose from for their drinks but not an overwhelming amount amount, thank goodness. The vibe is chill and calm yet with life, you can feel the beautiful southern San Diego weather with the great energy. There's something about the colors of the interior that make it more than welcoming. The guy behind the desk making our delicious coffee was super nice, good service is always the best. I got a good ol' ice chai latte, my mom got a London for and I'm excited to try my fiancés salted caramel cold brew when I get back to my moms house (our home for this week). They have awesome merch. Tomorrow, I think I'm going to get a cup I had my eye on today. All in all, I can't wait to be back I miss living over here. Sebastian and Michelle, you are absolutely AMAZING read more

I've had house coffees, mochas, flat whites, and cold brews here and all are excellent. Fast, friendly service too. I've made it a go-to spot when I'm in IB. Going for a walk on the trails by the marsh after grabbing a drink here is a must-try. Just don't get run over by the bicyclists lol. read more

I like to stop here midway while bicycling the Bayshore bikeway. The coffee here is delicious! My server, Adrian, was very helpful when I was selecting which drink to get this time. I have bought their beans to take home with me on many other occasions, since I don't live close by and I like to drink my coffee while wearing pj's. When I first walked in- the whole place amazed me and made me feel like at home because my husband served the Navy as well the coffee soooo amazing especially their Nitro drinks, you gotta try them and you'll thank me! Right to the point: The customer service is terrible! We were up next in line so i approach the register. The employee says good morning and as I'm going to respond and mention my order, she walks away without saying anything. That was rude. It's my first time there so I'm taking a few seconds to complete my order. While I'm telling her my order she's giving me this annoyed look, very unwelcoming. Meanwhile, the other employee (the one making the coffee) finishes giving a drink and as soon as the customer who's drink he just gave walks out, he says pretty loudly "that lady was so rude." The person helping us tells him "you probably shouldn't be saying that out loud " as they start to laugh and whisper. This experience left a bad image of the place. The coffee: i got a latte with oat milk and an extra shot of espresso. It was a pretty good cup of coffee as well as the ambiance, it's a nice open space. Too bad the start of the experience was awful. For this reason I will not be returning to this establishment. Came here during lunch break since there isn't too many coffee shops south of San Diego. This is a great place to sit down and get some work done as there are many outlets. The staff here are patient and willing to explain the extensive list of cold brews too. I ended up getting the matcha latte which was smooth and not too sweet. I enjoyed the strong matcha flavor and would definitely recommend. There is an extensive selection of gluten free and vegan pastries which looked good. My friend got the raspberry bar which was too sweet for me, but I generally don't enjoy those types of pastries. Will definitely be checking this place out again! read more

Yay finally got to visit Trident coffee which has been in my list for some time now. Trident kind of reminds me of Ryan Bros with the nitro coffee. I love me some cold nitro brew , but the weather the day i went called for a warm drink. I ordered the Mexican Mocha warm. It was a subtle mocha flavor, but i might have been due to me adding oat milk that i notice makes the drinks more of a creamy flavor. Drink tasted good still. Love their merch and the glass tumblers. Parking can be a pain in this area, but I am definitely coming back to try their blackberry cobbler latte. read more

COVID review: I used to guzzle coffee at work. Now I have acid reflux, so coffee has to be an occasional treat. When planning my route on the Bayshore Bikeway during the Gordy Shields Memorial Ride, I noticed that Trident Coffee would be at the halfway point. I figured that it would be a good spot for me to catch my breath and get some caffeine. I had seen their menu and I was all set with my order: large hot Island Hopper (organic Papua New Guinea). Of course, I checked in to get the 20% discount. Well, I don't know if it was the endorphins or my relief to get out of the rain, but that was easily one of the best cups of coffee I've had out in a while. It was rich, robust, and flavorful without tasting overly extracted or too bitter. All they had in terms of indoor seating was one couch, but they had plenty of seats on their veranda. You will also want to wander over to the trail to get a view of the bay (I can't remember if there are any benches nearby). Next time, I may be tempted by one of the vegan protein donuts. Not exactly the Breakfast of Champions, but one should treat one's self occasionally. If you ride there from Coronado or downtown, you will have earned it! If only they didn't charge extra for non-dairy milk. They do have free wifi, and you get a free can of cold brew if you give them a Yelp review. read more

All the coffees ive tried here have been delicious & very smooth. But the thing that really keeps bringing me back is their beef "empanada". The crust is so so good and crispy and I often find myself craving it! The location of this coffee shop is also very nice since theres a really nice trail where you can walk while drinking your coffee. Although its located near a busy boulevard this place feels so peaceful and is sorrounded by nature. read more

Every time I go to Trident Coffee, it is a wonderful experience. The cafe latte is always delicious and so are the keto donuts and bagels. It's really hard finding keto dessert options in the southbay and trident coffee is always my go to spot to find sweet keto treats for my husband. The location is also beautiful and you can take a nice walk along the bay. The barista is always extremely friendly and nice. Definitely a hidden gem in Imperial Beach. read more

Genuinely top 2 cafes I've ever been to. A place that specializes in nitro cold brew is so unique and the execution with so many unique coffees is superb. The baristas are top notch and let me sample before picking a drink. I loved it so much I bought a bag of beans. Add the fact that they have great protein donuts and a cool looking place as well and you have a recipe for a perfect cafe. This is a haven for specialty coffee lovers and cafe lovers as well. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Eric J.

Serving as a Naval Officer, Eric Johnson started brewing his own cold brew coffee during his final tour of duty in Iraq. He noticed how coffee and tea act as a bridge between cultural differences. All of the chaos of conflict would pause between him and village elders for a brief moment while enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea together. Two cultures born a world apart were communicating on so many levels without saying a word- that was it! Eric had found his calling and thus set out to create Trident Coffee Roasters.

The reason I found out he sold it and retired was because he saw and recognized me walking the pier in IB :D He and his wife were always welcoming, like you were a family member visiting for a snack and a good chat. The place has generous seating available, always clean and never dirty or messy, and is in a prime business lot at the intersection of IB Blvd/Coronado Ave and 13th Street. I've only been back once since the place was sold and I wasn't really into the flavors offered at that time, plus they were no longer offering the maple eclairs. Not sure if they are now, but I'm sure their other donuts are good since they've got good reviews and were in the Reader last year. Go check them out!

What an amazing find! So first things first this is their brewery and Roaster location. They specialize in nitro cold brew which has become my favorite way to drink coffee. If you're a Expresso coffee drinker who adds a ton of milk and sugar this may not be the place for you. But that's ok just walk 50 feet in any direction till you hit the coffee shop with a green sign. For me I actually like the taste of coffee and drink it black most times. One thing I've noticed is with cold brew is more favors of the coffees come through, it's less acidic and has more caffeine then drip coffee. They have over a dozen different coffees from all around the world with different roast profiles. Just love what they're doing here, plus it's a family owned and operated. They're directly sourcing their green coffees, roasting in house (love that) so many coffee shops I end up at get their beans roasted by a third party or some off sight location. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I ordered their flight option where I got to pick any four. Had an organic Ethiopian which was a light roast, it had this amazingly great blueberry taste. A dark roast Peruvian great flavor. Ambrotos which was a medium roast Brazilian with MCT oil was super creamy and smooth. Lastly I had their Mexican Chiapas, medium roast brewed with chocolate cocoa powder, cinnamon and orange peel was also a new favorite. As for the location it's self well it's really cool and and the view and walk around bike way village was beautiful. I discovered Trident Coffee while riding on the Bayshore Bikeway, and I am blown away by the quality of their beans and the deliciousness of their cold brew coffee. I highly recommend the "Son of a Son of a Sailor" (SSS) cold brew; it is truly exceptional. The flavor is bold and complex, with a smooth finish that leaves you wanting more. In addition to the delicious coffee, the service is top-notch. Jaryl, who helped me with my order, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He took the time to explain the different types of beans and brewing methods, and he helped me choose the perfect beans for my taste. Do you love cold brew on NITRO?!! They also can steam the coffees if you want it hot. You Definitely have to come to TRIDENT COFFEE, they have so many options of light roast, medium roast and dark roast coffees off the tap! They also have 3 teas...... ask about there off menu drinks as well :) it was my first time a week ago and i got a flight and BRITTANY was huge help, she explained all the coffees and teas on the menu she made it easy to pick and chose what ones i wanted to try in my flight she was very knowledge and didn't rush me. GREAT COFFEE AND COSTUMER SERVICE . Definitely will be back with friends and family. read more

Just had the best mocha ever at Trident Coffee! The perfect mix of chocolate and espresso, super creamy and delicious. The barista really nailed it. The place itself is super cozy, with comfy seats and a laid-back atmosphere. Great spot to hang out or get some work done. Plus, the staff are super friendly and welcoming, especially Ricardo. I stopped by Trident Coffee recently and had a great experience with Adrien. The coffee was solid--well-brewed and smooth. Adrien was friendly and took a moment to suggest a few drinks based on what I liked. The atmosphere at the shop is laid-back, and the service was quick and efficient. Overall, a good spot for a quality cup of coffee. I'll definitely be coming back when I'm in the area. read more

This is a really cool coffee shop that's located right at the end of the coastal bike path. Tip: To get here, head west along the salt flats from the I-5 main St exit While you can't go wrong with any of the beverages available here, I highly recommend their cold brew coffee! What a great find!! Their protein (and gluten free) donuts can actually be a light meal because they are packed with protein and nutritious ingredients - and yet they taste great. They are filling and freeze well also. Sebastian has been wonderful in responding to questions and requests, and customer service at both locations is extraordinary. read more
