We had breakfast at Trillium during our stay at The Grove Hotel. The place is nicely decorated in mid-century style, with beautiful pops of color. We didn't have reservations but were able to get right in, despite the fact it was a weekend. The place is clean and the service was great. I had their avocado toast, which was probably the freshest and most flavorful avocado toast. Excellent choice! The rest of the food was also tasty. Curious to taste their lunch menu! The food was ok, we came for a birthday celebration and really wanted a nice meal out. The ambience was really nice and the service was great. We ordered the poutine and iceberg to start then the bison meatloaf, filet, trout and the ancho chicken. The meatloaf was our least favorite as it was very dry and everything else was extremely salty. They offered two free desserts for the birthdays and we opted for one, the crème brûlée which was more like a strawberry pudding. It wasn't overall a bad experience just not great. read more

Went here for dinner tonight with my husband. I have to say this is the best food I've had in Boise since moving here from the east coast just over two years ago. We ordered a few appetizers: the brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and portobello fries, and they were all phenomenal. The caesar dressing was absolutely delicious! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive as well. Prices are very appropriate for the outstanding quality of the food. We can't wait to go back and try some entrees next time. We were only in Boise for one night on our way back to WA and wanted to treat ourselves to a great meal after a long day of driving. The meal was overall a bit of a splurg price wise, but was well worth it and left us with leftovers for lunch the next day. The sprouts were the best item we ordered. Crispy and well flavored with a light sauce, parmesan and fresh herbs. The beverages were well balanced, not too sweet, not too boozy. I ended up getting two because they were so good. The pizza was good, but not the best pizza I've ever had. There were a few too many toppings for my liking, but it was made in a fire oven which added a great level of flavor. The Idaho cheesesteak had a lot of flavor and the aus ju was more flavorful and substantial than I've had in the past. Both were very filling. read more

Trillium can't be all things to all people. We celebrated my husband's birthday on a recent Saturday night, anticipating a fine dining experience - based on the price of the entrees, which run from $13 pizza to $38 filet mignon. While the food was really good (portobello mushroom stroganoff and shrimp mac 'n' cheese) and the decor very nice, it's weird to sit there eating an expensive entree, dressed in your finest, while a family in their best T-shirts and backwards baseball caps are eating burgers at a table a few feet away. It's a restaurant in a hotel, trying to serve hotel guests every meal or snack when they want it, but I'd appreciate some segregation of the clientele and lower-key lighting. The service was friendly and efficient, but a bit too casual for the fine dining price tag. read more

My husband says the burger is the best he's ever had, which is saying a lot - we eat in plenty of nice restaurants! I love the Brussels Sprout salad - although I have to say that heating it up at home (leftovers!) makes it even better. I've never waited for a table which I also love. Had our anniversary dinner there on 11/11/20. Everything was spot on. The food was spectacular, and the service was just as good. We started with the crab strata... which is the best appetizer we've ever had in Boise. Next we had the short ribs and bison meatloaf, both were excellent and portions were plentiful. I dined here 3 times while staying at the Grove Hotel. Why did I keep coming back even with all the great restaurants within walking distance? Because the FOOD the SERVICE and the DECOR! I had the house salad with huckleberry dressing at each visit, it was that good. The French fries are some of the best I've ever eaten. Wood fired pizza and desserts, just delicious. Hotel restaurants can be hit or miss and Trillium is a major hit! We were told to go here while we were visiting from out of town by our local friends. We had the crispy Brussels sprouts for an app and they were probably the best I've had. Just enough crisp and not too much sauce (so you feel like they are still good for you). I ordered the bronzed steelhead trout with tomato ice cream (sounds strange, but it melts and acts as a little sauce addition), roasted corn and polenta. It was so good. Two fillets on the plate gave me more than I could finish. My husband ordered the braised pork shank and this is a dish to see! The shank bone is part of the dish and the piece of meat is plentiful. The surrounding additions had great flavor and the jalapeño gave some serious heat. We had great service from Ian and really enjoyed our experience. read more

I chose to give Trillium a try since they always popped up twice at the top of my search's once for their paid ad and another at the top of rankings. At the time of my search, Trillium had only 39 reviews, which might be the cause of their relatively high ranking. Needless to say I was very unimpressed as Trillium was undoubtedly the worst restaurant I ate at during my week stay in Boise. There are other options in the area, with more reviews, that I would recommend over Trillium. Upon walking in to the very empty restaurant (first clue) the greeter sat us at our table. My coworker and I briefly inquired about breakfast being served at lunch time, and when I told him I just wanted a lunch menu, he huffed and looked very annoyed that he had to answer my questions about breakfast food in the first place. There was more to this interaction but in summary, he was annoyed and hurried the entire interaction. There was no reason to be hurried as there were no other customers anywhere near the restaurant. Morale of the story is don't have your grumpiest employee be the first contact customers have with your restaurant. It just sets their mood negatively. Food: I ordered the meatloaf which I found to be way over cooked. Overcooking, I've found tends to remove flavor as any fat within the meat is cooked away, which is what happened to my meatloaf. The meat was also very dry, and as a result, was very hard to cut with just a fork. It felt like I was cutting into a tough steak. The bread accompanying the meal was equally over cooked and hard as a rock. The potatoes were also inedible as they were smothered in a thick sauce which I believe was not prepared properly. My co-worker ordered eggs and bacon with similar results. The bacon was also over cooked and lacked any flavor as a result. Service The waitress was decent, but nothing more than that. She checked on us once after we received food, but did not know much about the menu when asked about it. We needed her the most when we were trying to get our check so that we could pay and go to another restaurant and get edible food before heading back to our conference. Being that the restaurant was not busy (we were the only table) she was by the open kitchen talking to another employee. It took some time to get her back to our table and pay the check. read more

Clearly the management and staff are all committed to making Trillium a fantastic dining experience for their guests. We were greeted warmly by the host and directed to our table. The kitchen is presented in an open setting and the vibe is real comfortable. David was our waiter and was super calm and helpful in explaining the various selections. We started with the Brussels sprouts and fried portobello mushrooms. Both were fantastic. We all loved and agreed that the Brussels were roasted to perfection and the peppery sauce that accompanied made them some of the best we've had. I ordered the halibut knowing that being able to execute a good fish plate would be the ultimate test. It was a generous portion and was executed perfectly. The sauce served underneath was a perfect accompaniment, but maybe a bit too creamy for my particular tastes. I guess I would have preferred the flavor of the current sauce but with a touch more citrus and thinner texture. My wife ordered the bison meatloaf. Next to I visit I will try that. It was also a generous portion but looked so homey and tasty. My wife loved it. So, I don't usually don't ever give a 5 star review. If I could give a 4.5 I would. Then again I couldn't give this a 4 so a 5 was given based on all the little things along with the excellent food that makes it a five. All and all it was a perfect night and experience. We'll definitely be back again. I'm anxious to try some of the other items, all of which looked delicious. read more

What a gem.... they serve strong drinks, delicious. Knowledgeable staff. The food was outstanding. My mother had the New York steak, perfectly grilled with crisp shoestring potatoes.
