    Beef stroganoff
    Sharon D.

An all day rainy day winter solstice called for some comfort food and what better place than Trillium at the Grove Hotel. Best perk of the night is the free valet parking when dining. Always stellar service and ambiance is prefect for date night. Creative cocktails and a fantastic wine list including my favorite Pinot from the Willamette, Adelsheim. The food does not disappoint! A mainstay on the menu for good reason is their beef stroganoff which is nothing like your grandma's. It's modern and upbeat and garlicky and so incredibly delicious that it goes straight to your heart. Please do not ever remove this dish from the menu I beg of you. Tonight we also had the Osso Bucco which comes out in a cast iron bowl brimming with so many flavors it's like a treasure hunt in every bite. Trillium is at the very top when it comes to fine dining in Boise.

    The freshest coffee today

I asked my friend where he wanted to go for his birthday breakfast and without hesitation he said Trillium. I made us a reservation at 10 for today. I didn't know how busy it was going to be since The Grove is such a popular hotel. I didn't have a bad nor good experience last time so I made sure I came in with an open mind this time around. Walking in, I was instantly greeted by 2 gentleman. Santos let me choose a booth or table. I loved the emerald green love seats at the booth so I sat and waited for the birthday boy. My server was busy with another table so Santos was kind and got my coffee started. Amanda came and greeted us. The birthday boy showed up not much after my coffee was dropped off . She got our orders squared away and more coffee refilled for us. I checked the menu out online and the birthday boy is a regular so we knew what we wanted. Ordering was fast and easy today. I got the classic breakfast today. 2 eggs, sausages and fruit. The eggs were cooked perfectly, I wanted them fried a little harder since I passed on the toast today. My favorite part of my meal was the fruit cup. Talk about an amazing fruit cup. There were your basic watermelon, grapes, pineapple, cantaloupe and honeydew but it also had raspberry, blueberries, cherries, strawberries and blackberries. You got a healthy portion of fruit and it was so fresh. You also get two sausages with your classic breakfast, I had one. The sausage was kinda hard and dry, it wasn't that good. Amanda was sweet and got Tod a birthday treat. He picked orange creme brulee. This dessert was perfection. The sugar crust was crunchy and a little bitter so complimented the sweet orange creme nicely. The orange creme was delightful and rich. I love the fresh strawberries and blackberries on top. The strawberries and orange creme was the ultimate bite. It was an impeccable birthday treat! I appreciate that everyone came and said hi to Tod. Everyone was so nice and helpful. When Amanda wasn't available, someone was always checking up on us. I love that they recognize Tod as a regular and the servers interacted with him. It's transactions like that that make me miss serving so much, the relationships you create with your customers. Today was a good visit at Trillium. I know I'll be back for the orange creme brulee. It was too good not to have again.

I had the Croque Madame, my wife had the Chicken & Waffles, and we finished with crème brûlée--hands down one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The toast on my Croque Madame was incredible. I added a little strawberry jam to each bite and just a touch of Tapatío for an extra kick--absolutely perfect. I also may have stolen a few bites of my wife's hot Chicken & Waffles with lavender honey ice cream and maple syrup... and wow. I couldn't get enough of that either. We were here celebrating our 20-year anniversary and were thrilled to discover this gem tucked away in the Grove Hotel. I'm honestly shocked by how amazing the food is. The service was top notch--John B. took incredible care of us. We even had the chance to compliment the chef and meet Ryan, who made my Croque Madame. Hearing him talk about his experience, his love for cooking, and seeing the precision and care he puts into his work made the meal even more special. It truly shows in every bite. Because of the service, the experience, and the expertise behind the food, we happily left a generous tip--it was well deserved. And for only $18-$20 per entrée, the value is unbelievable. I can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu... although I'm the type of guy who, once I find something I love, it's hard not to order it again. So many great choices--what do I do?! Absolutely loved our experience here. Highly recommend.

Great spot for breakfast - terrific server Amanda took care of us. The omelet was delicious and you have a choice of sides. I highly recommend the local Acme bread toasted, accompanied by scrumptious huckleberry jam. The cheddar cheese biscuits and gravy were underwhelming-- gravy needed so much more seasoning and were disappointing., especially at this price point. The eggs were cooked as ordered. Excellent coffee. Weird encounter with the host when we walked in. I asked him if we could still get breakfast because it was a few minutes before 11 when breakfast service ends. He said "No" without any smile so I didn't realize he was just acting out his apparently snarky self. Way to start with a poor impression man!

My wife and I went in on date night. We had to read a review on the meatloaf . It was supposed to be the best meatloaf in Idaho . The meatloaf was great tasting, but I thought it was a little dry.. I had to ask for more reduction. The service was not bad and the orange crème brûlée was so so..

We tried Trillium for the first time for my birthday and it was the perfect way to celebrate! Delicious food, amazing staff, and a pleasant ambiance. Food: 5/5. Everything from drinks to appetizers, entrees and dessert was absolutely amazing! To drink I had the Huck Rita and the Crime of Passion. Both were great, but I think I preferred the tropical flavors of the Crime of Passion. We started with the smoked trout poutine, which was phenomenal! I could not recommend it more! For entrees we had the short ribs and the steak frites. Again, phenomenal. The grits that come with the short ribs are such a delicious side. We got to torte to go for dessert and since it was my birthday they put a candle in the to go box which was such a touching thought! Service: 5/5. Everyone was very professional and our service was fairly quick. Our waters were filled continuously and the waitress was friendly and outgoing. Atmosphere: 4/5. I really liked the ambience of the restaurant. It felt modern and cozy. It was a little brighter than similar restaurants. Kid friendly: 2/5. Not somewhere I would recommend taking kids. I didn't notice a kids menu or high chairs. Save this place for a nice date night away from the kids.

I know my husband who is a huge pizza lover would absolutely love their pizza here. So for my birthday, I decided that we should hit up The James for dinner. I had made a reservation for a patio table a couple days ahead of schedule. I really wanted to sit outside with the family and enjoy our meal. Of course the day of my birthday, the weather was windy and cooler. I called the restaurant to see if we couple l could possibly dine inside. The gentleman that helped me over the phone wasn't really friendly but he assured me that dining inside shouldn't be an issue. We had a cute table reserved for us inside. It was pretty chill when we came in. A few people at the bar and another table enjoying their meal. The last time my friends and I were in, it was so busy. I actually appreciate how chill it was tonight. Nothing like enjoying my family and our meal in a calm space. We got some food ordered. We started off with some wings, clam chowder and zuppa tuscono soup. A pepperoni pizza for my husband and I. My daughter got the French dip sammy. I planned on having a little bit of my daughter's sandwich. I have to make sure it's tasty! The wings came out first. They were cooked perfectly! Crispy on the outside but the chicken wing was still tender. The buffalo sauce and ranch were in dipping cups on the side. We all had a few and then soups were dropped off. My husband's clam chowder was money. It was so good! Clams and potatoes through out each bite. My daughter's zuppa was very hearty and spicy. I love the kale in the soup. I had a couple bites but the heat was becoming a little too much for me. Our pizza was hot right out the oven. The cheese was perfectly melty. Plenty of pepperoni slices on the pizza. I appreciate the fact that the crust isn't crazy thick. It's thinner so you're not eating a tone of bread. The crust is crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle. The sauce is not overwhelming in herbs. This joint seriously has some of the best pizza in town! Each slice I had tonight was fantastic! My daughter enjoyed her sammy. I didn't get a chance to snag a bite. I was too busy tearing up our pizza. I did snag a few fries and these folks know how to produce a great fry. We didn't get the gorgonzola fries this time but it will be a must have the next time we hit this joint up. It's been a hot minute since I have had them and I still daydream about them. Our sweet server got me birthday dessert. Chocolate cake with raspberry sauce on it. It was devine. I couldn't tell if the cake was flourless. It was really dense like it was but I didn't mind. It was still so good. I enjoyed the raspberry sauce that came on it. Since the cake was so dense, the raspberry sauce added some brightness to it. As full as I was, I had to make sure my birthday dessert was finished. I'm a sucker for anything sweet no matter how full I am. Tonight's dining experience was great. Our server was sweet and delightful. Our food was killer good. My dessert was banger. And the vibe was chill. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better dinner to celebrate my birthday. I look forward to coming back, sitting on the patio and vibing out while enjoying our food.

The decor features beautiful artificial greenery that gives the space a light, vibrant, and welcoming feel. My server, Brayden, was fantastic--friendly, prompt, and attentive. While I was looking at the bar, a gentleman named Scott asked how I was enjoying my food. I told him I hadn't tried it yet, but that the mimosa was rocking! The soup was delicious with great flavoring, and the biscuits paired perfectly with their tasty jam. The chicken salad also tasted great, but unfortunately, I bit into a sharp chicken bone that hurt my mouth. Because of this, I stopped eating the sandwich. When Brayden checked back in, I let him know I couldn't finish it due to the bone. He handled it perfectly, promptly took the sandwich away, and removed the charge from my bill. He also brought out some bread for my soup as requested. I finished my meal with a salted caramel craft iced latte, which was absolutely delicious. Minor food mishap aside, the outstanding customer service from both Brayden and Scott will definitely bring me back!

Today my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday here so of course I said yes! We decided to sit on the outdoor patio today. It wasn't the warmest day but it was beautiful out. The sun was peeking out once in a while. The table was nicely shaded by a huge umbrella. The sun was nice but to have it beating on you isn't the best so the umbrella was appreciated. It was the perfect table for our outing. Jerika (I hope I spelled her name right) greeted my friend and I with her beautiful smile. We got some drinks started so while they were being worked on, my friend and I breezed over the menu. I did somewhat enjoy my charboiled salmon at the Eagle Bardenay for my birthday a couple weeks ago. The chefs did undercook my first plate of salmon. The server was kind to take my plate back to have the chefs remake it. The second attempt was appreciated but it was unfortunately a fail. The salmon came out so dry. I get that I wanted it well done but not jerky. But, today's a new day and I was willing to give it another shot. So today, I ordered the salmon with veggies instead of the salad. My plate came out and it looked promising. I love beautiful char marks on my food. The char marks today were perfect. My veggies looked nicely cooked but I could tell that some of the squash was still undercooked by the color. I didn't mind, it's a sign of freshness. As much as I wanted to stare at the prettiness of my food, I was ready to dig in! My salmon was so good! It was perfectly cooked! No raw spots in the middle, it was flaky and moist. It was a fabulous piece of salmon. The sun dried tomato butter is a fantastic add on to the salmon. I honestly could have polished another piece of fish. The chef that cooked my salmon today needs a raise! My lunch was chef's kiss! My friend enjoyed her lunch and her birthday drink! The outdoor patio was so relaxing. My lunch was also enjoyed. Our server was kind and attentive. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday lunch for my deserving friend. I hope that it won't be another 5+ years till I come back. I will need another plate of salmon with that sun dried tomato butter soon.

When I asked a staff member if it normally came with butter or jam, they looked genuinely confused by the question. I eventually just asked for jam, but it felt like a strange interaction. I ordered the Brisket Benedict and the Monte Cristo. The Benedict looked great when it arrived, but one poached egg was perfectly runny while the other was significantly overcooked with a mostly solid yolk. The brisket was dry, the collard greens underneath were dry, and there wasn't enough hollandaise to compensate. The breakfast potatoes were crispy and fine, but nothing memorable. The Monte Cristo was the biggest letdown. When I order a Monte Cristo, I expect something rich, savory, and indulgent. This version was made with bland white bread, the bacon was very soft, and the sandwich lacked the flavor and texture that make a Monte Cristo worth ordering. It looked better than it tasted. Service was pleasant, but no one checked on our table after the food arrived, despite the restaurant not being very busy. Had someone stopped by, I would have mentioned the overcooked egg. Overall, one good dish out of three isn't enough to make me want to return. Based on this visit, I'd give it 3 stars.

I saw…read morenotifications on Facebook that they would be open during Treefort 2024 but didn't think I would be able to fit it into my schedule. By coincidence when walking around town I spotted it and had to go try. I'm a sucker for biscuits and gravy and these definitely beat what you would find in a Denny's or IHOP by a landslide on the taste and aesthetic scale! It's super filling since there's so many carbs, but the taters (more like small potato wedges) are actually a clever add-in. They add a slight bit of texture to the mushiness of the gravy-soaked biscuits, and potatoes and gravy are already best friends in terms of food pairings. There's also garnish on top (some sort of greens and cheese) that gives it a nice look and extra flavor. Delicious! I didn't think much of the customer service initially aside from thinking they were super friendly. However, I sat down at one of the tables and took my time eating and people watching. So many people came by the store to talk to the chefs with such familiarity that it felt like this popup was its own restaurant and community. It hasn't reached a point of popularity where it's flooded with people, but the more I look back on the experience, the nicer I feel about it. Even after a lot of time had passed and the staff had already helped out so many people, when I left, they called out my name and it made me wish I could go back again. This is one of the best experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Not because it's spectacular or mindblowing, but because it was great people watching. The food itself was also amazing for late night food-coma inducing munching.

My husband and I have two food categories we always research before visiting a new city: pizza and…read morebreakfast. We take both very seriously, so Goldy's was high on our list during our trip to Boise--and it did not disappoint. We ended up sitting upstairs, which turned out to be a great choice. It gave us a fun view of the dining room below and, more importantly, let us see all the amazing-looking plates coming out of the kitchen. If you're anything like me, half the fun of breakfast is seeing what everyone else ordered. The standout for both of us was easily the Goldy's Special Potatoes. The red potatoes are tossed with the restaurant's house seasoning blend, and whatever is in that seasoning mix works. They were flavorful, crispy, and completely addictive. We both cleaned our plates. I ordered the two-egg breakfast with scrambled eggs and cheese, along with one of their specialty sausages. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the biscuit was excellent. Since I was in Idaho, I also wanted to try something made with marionberries because they're so well known in the Pacific Northwest. I ordered the marionberry jam, and while I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, both my husband and I really enjoyed it. My husband went with an omelet and turkey apple sausage and was equally happy with his choice. The coffee was probably the only thing that didn't stand out to me. I drink my coffee black, and this was more of a classic diner-style cup of coffee--perfectly fine, but not the star of the meal for sure. Overall, Goldy's is exactly the kind of breakfast spot we love finding when we travel: great food, generous portions, and a place that feels like a local favorite for a reason. If we ever find ourselves back in Boise, we'll absolutely be back for those potatoes.

We came at 10:15am on a Friday and had to wait over 30min. The host was super nice. We didn't leave until 11:45. It was a long wait to get our food. I would say this place struck me as a very average diner, still good, but not amazing. My food was pretty cold when I got it but it was good. I actually really liked the coffee too. I probably would not come back but it's worth a try.
