The filet was good but could have used a little more seasoning and if the steak came with polenta I think they would compliment each other very nicely. My husband likes his medium well so he ordered it as a medium and it turned out to be medium well. There were SO MANY shoestring fries. They were good but it tasted like we were just eating hashbrowns. I ordered two drinks and they were both pretty good. The staff were super nice and our waitress took very good care of us. One of the best Eggs Benedict I've had. The end. The house made English muffins were the perfect thickness. The Canadian bacon was thicker than I expected it to be. Eggs had a perfect poach. My husband and I went with a group of 6. The Bison meatloaf is one of the best items on the menu but at $40 a plate, one might hope so. Some of the other items were just mediocre for the price. The beef stroganoff was tough and for the price, not nearly as good as the Russian restaurant in Boise. Our friends had other dishes that they said just weren't as good as they had remembered. Everything just seemed subpar. Even the deserts were off. Got a blueberry cobbler with the most tart blueberries it made your eyes water. The cheesecake our friends ordered was compared to a cottage cheese consistency, and not smooth and rich. read more

We came to Trillium for dessert and left more than impressed. We got the huckleberry s'mores (after seeing the many photos with the Idaho-shaped chocolate) and the fruit cobbler. Both were incredibly delicious, and not a single piece of food was left by the time we finished. I will have to come back for brunch or dinner sometime! read more

We came here for an early morning Sunday Breakfast. I found this place because I was able to make a reservation and it was open early - mainly other places I looked at opened after 9am. Staff got us in right away. There seemed to be ample staff there. Took a while for someone to take our order, but our food and drinks came out quickly and we all felt the portions were good. My husband ordered a over medium egg (runny yolk and cooked white), and he thought it was cooked perfectly, and he is normally very picky! I had the Grove Continental which had yogurt, granola, fruit and choice of carb (I got the blueberry muffin). Great atmosphere and the hotel (The Grove) is very swanky and right there in downtown Boise. The hotel has valet and I am sure other parking, but we parked across the street where it was free parking on Sunday. read more

We had this on our "possible" list for over a year. We went there for Happy Hour or maybe dinner, we didn't have a set plan. Lots of reviews have covered this establishment. It is on the first floor of the Grove Hotel directly off the lobby. We gave our car key to the attendant and he managed the 3 hour free parking for us. Jill was our server and did an excellent job of introducing us to the menu. We started with a few specialty cocktails, the Brussel sprouts and cauliflower appetizers. Both were very large appetizers and we made them disappear in a hurry. We would totally recommend both of them to vegetarian and non-veg folks. Our main courses were fish & chips and their version of a Rueben which they call The Dilulo. The fish and the batter they use is superb. The fries are cooked perfectly for thicker fries and the seasoning was exactly how it should be. The sandwich was very tasty and was served with what tasted like an apricot sauce. We were able to subsitute the fries that came with the sandwich with a beautiful dinner salad. The photo should make you hungry. Great job Trillium. We are telling friends to go there. read more

We had a great time at Trillium. The restaurant was very upscale and cozy. The service was great and our server was extremely attentive. It really showed that she'd loved her job. We weren't able to redeem the Yelp offer of free valet parking as the hotel was full and turned us away. For food we started with the chicken flat bread. It was baked very nicely with a crisp crust. The warm crab salad was also pleasant with a healthy servicing of crab. Definitely getting your moneys worth with that serving portion. The spicy chicken torta was excellent as well. It was a little heavy on the also so the center got pretty soggy. Ended up leaving the center and just ate around the outside where it remained nice and crisp. Highly recommend Trillium. Hopefully they can accommodate more parking though if it is listed as a Yelp check in offer. read more

First time having brunch at Trillium and I'm telling you, it was completely fantastic. We were so enraptured with our plates we didn't take any photos.. we had the breakfast burrito, the hash and the classic breakfast. The hash brown are the best I've had anywhere and the presentation on all of our orders was impressive. Due to food allergies I couldn't order the steak and potato pancakes but their head chef came to the grill herself to make me the filet mignon to satisfy my steak craving! This steak was a worth every dime and each bite was unforgettable! We also ordered the Bloody Mary and that was so refreshing and tasty with the pickled asparagus. Arrived a few minutes before a 6:30pm reservation and we were seated right away. It was New Year's Eve but didn't start getting busy until around 7:30ish. We got the iceberg salad to share along with the crab stratta, and both were delicious. My husband got the bison grilled cheese and he said he enjoyed it, but it could use more cheese. I had the steak frites and it was pretty good. My husband sandwich came with choice of side, and he got the beef French onion soup. We both thought the soup was very flavorful. The restaurant got pretty loud once it was busy, but that would be expected on a holiday night. My husband did say he wished the lighting was a little more dim, and I would agree. The pork was fall off the bone and paired as a Mexican themed entree. It was fun to eat and a lot of food. The short ribs were meltingly tender and made with a huckleberry sauce. The only drawback was the accompanying bread pudding which was meh. Nothing bad but nothing exciting in the bread pudding either. There was a good wine list. Trillium is located inside The Grove Hotel in downtown Boise and offers free valet parking if you dine in the restaurant. This is an upscale atmosphere with excellent, personal service. We came to check out the half price appetizers during happy hour, since their normal prices are a bit steep. Our server highly recommended the Szechuan Cauliflower and even promised she'd take it off the bill if we didn't like it. I can see why after tasting it- crunchy, slightly spicy, and packed with flavor. Similar to an orange chicken flavor but somehow better. The cauliflower was the best thing we ate! The poutine was good- there was a lot going on with the lemon heavy sauce and lots of garnish. We did enjoy it. The charcuterie board was a huge variety of meats and cheeses, my favorite was the halloumi "grilling" cheese, which is a chunk of warm cheese that's been grilled. We had a great experience here and we'll be back when we find ourselves with some extra cash! Happy hour is half off apps and discounts on beer and wine. I was so excited that I had a chance to come back for a wedding reception at the Trillium last Saturday. My husband and I ordered every mixed drink on their menu! Lol! He really like their PB&J (it's a old forester bourbon, screwball whiskey, Emmett cherry bitters & Orange bitters). I love their Garden of Greens(rum & gin w/cucumber, basil, mint, lime and a splash of soda water). The food was still exceptional. I had a Filet Mignon; it was cook to my request. My husband had an Adult shrimps Mac and cheese, he love it! One of my daughters had Braised Pork Shank, it was so good..,I took a bite or two of hers! My other daughter had their New York Steak; also so yummy!! We were served a slice of wedding cake for our dessert but one of our friend is gluten free so she ordered Creme Brulee; it was baked to perfection! We are always looking for good food and good services in town. I am not disappointed from the minute I walked in till I left. The appetizer we ordered are very tasty and I love the steel trout I order. For the price we paid, it's totally reasonable and worth it as the restaurant gives the good portion that I have leftover to take it to go. My server, Rebecka, took a good care of us the whole time. My husband and I came to eat here 4/30/2022 while we were in town for work. The dishes were so full of flavor. We were seated right away. Our waiter was very easy going and funny. I ordered the beef and portobello stroganoff and my husband had the bison meatloaf. The stroganoff is definitely a must try. It was so flavorful and creamy !! The chocolate dessert was AMAZING! I wish I could remember the name of it. It had a crunchy top shell and moist, rich chocolate cake texture under. I wish we got photos of our cocktails as we had about 2 each. I can't say there was anything we ordered that we didn't like. We got our meals at a reasonable time and same with the drinks. Highly recommend if you want affordable fine dining and drinks. This restaurant is by far the best in all of Boise! Drinks: 5/5 (Pomelo Spritz) Appetizer: 5/5 (Brussel Sprouts) the green sauce it's served with is SO good. Entrees: 5/5 (Pork Shank & Filet Mignon) The Pork Shank presentation was awesome. The meat was so tender, the flavor so rich... every bite was perfect. The Filet Mignon was probably the best I have ever had, it was cooked to perfection, the mushroom confit with potato's were the perfect items to have served with it. Dessert: 5/5 (Berry Cobbler) Served hot and in a skillet with their own made ice cream!! Incredible job Chefs!! Trillium seemed larger in the pictures, but it's not that big which is actually really nice. It's super cute and dainty inside and you can see the chefs preparing everything! We made a reservation prior so we were seated immediately. Nick was our server & took great care of us. No place is perfect, but here it gets as good as it gets (mostly). Trillium is owned by The Grove Hotel and they work together for an award winning service experience. We did stay 2 nights at the Grove and dinned in the restaurant on NYE. See our separate review for the hotel. We made dinner reservations for NYE and spoke with the manager about our anniversary celebration as well. They sent up a bottle of Prosecco to our room and we decided to bring it to our dinner. Normally, there is a $15 corkage fee, but since the wine was provided by the hotel, they waved the fee for us. Our server, Mallory, was beyond accommodating, professional, yet relaxed with a bright personality. The table was preset with an ice bucket for the bottle we brought and I can't imagine a bad table location in the restaurant. The room is beautiful, the seating large and comfortable with generous spacing between tables and an open kitchen in the back. I believe they have sidewalk tables in the warmer weather as well. See attached photos with descriptions for what we ordered, but I definitely recommend the Szechwan cauliflower appetizer, NY steak frites entrée and don't forget to get the house-made dinner rolls! We ordered a salad to share, which the kitchen generously split for us, as well as the cauliflower app., smoked trout poutine, the aforementioned steak and the potato crusted halibut entrée. Mallory checked back with us just enough to ensure a pleasant experience, but not so much as to be an interruption. The cauliflower hit all areas of the palate. This dish would please carnivores as well as vegans; sweet, succulent, slightly spicy, smoky and crisp. The poutine was not as successful. I can see it being well liked by others, but for us, it missed the mark as the fish was dry and the curds a bit too large and toothsome. No complaints here, just not for us. The huckleberry salad was light, fresh and refreshing, but we didn't notice the huckleberry vinaigrette's signature flavor, yet still a delight of a salad. My steak was seared a perfect medium with ample cognac cream sauce, deeply rich mushrooms and I opted for the Idaho baked potato instead of the russet potato straws, which was huge and fluffy. My husband's halibut was less successful. The entree was entirely too light & delicate for our liking. The cauliflower puree was over buttered and runny, while the fish was slightly dry and had a mild funk to it. He did not inform me of this whilst seated, otherwise it would have been mentioned it to Mallory. There are many other interesting items on the menu that we are sure to return to try several more, as we live quite close by. Desserts were offered on the house for our anniversary. I chose the hot mixed fruit cobbler, which was quite flavorful, but had an unbalanced ratio of cobbler to fruit. I definitely would have preferred more streusel topping to pair with the fruit, as many spoonfuls were just cooked fruit. I did mention this to the server, but also that I was not unhappy, which is true and I was fine with keeping the dish as is. The chocolate hazelnut cake was just as decadent as to be expected, rich and chocolatey. We did have some leftovers and Mallory happily boxed them for us. We were sure to tip well and covered the sparkling wine and desserts in the tip. I must add that this was so far my best dining experience in Boise as you can see from my recent reviews for Richard's and Owyhee Tavern. read more

I love this place. I have eaten here twice once for breakfast and once for dinner. Both times were great!! We even stayed at grove hotel which I reviewed separately and really enjoyed my stay here. The decor is swanky, classy and really enjoyable to look at. The bar is really nice and the chairs are very neat. The cocktails were so good I had to remind myself to stop at 2! The food was cooked just right. I had the halibut with a tomato ice cream. I know those don't sound like they go together but it did and was very appealing to the palate. Most hotels don't have the greatest food, so I was pleasantly surprised with Trillium. I'm only going to review their breakfast, because I haven't eaten any of the other meals here. First of all, the staff was incredibly friendly, and extremely quick. I got my coffee within a minute or two it felt like, and my omelette came out promptly as well. I had the smoked trout frittata, it was absolutely delicious. It was also really well presented. It came with a choice of sides, and I know it's probably hilarious to review a side of fruit, but I'm going to. And if you think about it, you know why! How many times have you ordered a fruit cup and the fruit was mediocre or poor quality? All I can say is that someone in the kitchen of Trillium is paying attention, because I didn't have one piece of overripe or under ripe fruit, and that included the melon. It was also a nice combination of berries, melon, and grapes. I came back this morning, and even though I ordered boring oatmeal, I was still happy. Their coffee is good, too! Service was consistent from the day before. Accommodating, friendly, and quick. The only reason I'm not giving this restaurant five stars is because I haven't tried anything but breakfast. But if breakfast is an indication, I recommend trying it out. read more

Last night we had dinner at Trillium for our anniversary. The food was excellent both in quality and preparation. Our server, Marin, was excellent as well, very personable and competent, and she comped us a dessert to celebrate. However, the acoustics are terrible and it is very loud. Additionally, there were two families with young children at separate tables in the restaurant. The kids from one table kept going back and forth and standing around the table next to us - it was annoying. That's not the fault of the restaurant or the kids, the parents should have been more considerate of other diners. Looking back, this was not the best choice, it was not the warm and intimate experience I wanted for an anniversary dinner. It might be a better choice for breakfast or lunch. 11/3/21 Updated Review. I had a very nice response from the Chef, Chris, at Trillium. He understood my concerns and will address them. He has invited us back for a meal on him to make it right. I truly appreciate any business that takes customer feedback seriously and offers to make it right. I have updated my rating to 4 stars and I want to stress that the service and food were first-rate - really excellent. The noise (it was a hockey game night) and annoying children are the reason for not giving them 5 stars. read more

On 4/10/21, I had dinner at Trillium. The ambience, service and company were excellent. The food was average. We shared two appetizers: Portobello Fries ($12) - Macadamia and Panko crusted, mango catch up. This is the second time I've tried this appetizer. It's my least favorite. Smoked Chicken Flatbread ($13) - Candied onion, smoked Gouda, basil. It also has some balsamic vinegar. We all enjoyed this dish. For entrées, we ordered: Warm Crab Salad ($20) - Dungeness crab, grilled asparagus, lemon butter, capers, pickled egg, cucumber, tomato, spring mix. It looked good, but didn't have much flavor. Bronzed Steelhead Trout ($30) - Tomato ice cream, sharp cheddar grits, roasted corn succotash. The fish was good but would have benefited from some additional seasoning. American Kobe Cheeseburger ($14) - Ballard white cheddar, tomato jam, brioche roll. This is my entrée. The tomato jam had a good flavor but was overly sweet. The burger was OK, but would have benefited from some seasoning. We shared three desserts: Strawberry-Rhubarb Fruit Cobbler - Oatmeal streusel, ice cream. We all enjoyed this, but I would have preferred it if it had been served in a ramekin and had a higher fruit to streusel ratio. Banana Rum Creme Brûlée - Short bread cookie, berries. None of us cared for this desert. The banana flavor tasted artificial and the rum flavor was too strong. The shortbread cookie was overcooked. Huckleberry S'more's - Marshmallow Brulé, milk chocolate, ice cream. This was served a top a flattened out waffle cone base. The only Graham cracker was a slight dusting on top of the marshmallow. Literally can't say enough nice things, gets all of 5 stars and then some! Great location downtown, in the renovated lobby of The Grove Hotel. Pull up to the front hotel entrance and enjoy complimentary valet parking. The interior decor is extremely well done, blacks/whites/subway tile/etc. Kitchen is open to the restaurant so if you like to watch the food come out like I do it's really fun. We sit down and greeted by our server Lauren, whom turns out to be fantastic. Ordered a bottle of wine and selected one we have not tried before, Tamarack Cellars "Spice Box". Really enjoyed the bottle and will look for it again in the future. Wine selection was pretty decent, and prices were very reasonable compared to some places. Now time for some apps, we tried the jalapeno bacon wrapped poppers and crispy brussel sprouts. The poppers were good, no doubt. However the brussel sprouts absolutely stole the show! The apricot glaze and the green pepper sauce just sent them over the top. Entries I asked what Lauren would suggest, and he mentioned their steaks are cut and trimmed by hand in-house each day. He highly recommended the New York. It arrived on a bed of shoestring fries covered with a mushroom sauce, oh man was it yummy! Steak was an excellent cut of meat, cooked perfectly med-rare. Wife ordered the warm dungeness crab salad and she absolutely loved it as well. My only disappointment was on a Saturday night they were not busier. This place deserves more attention and people should give it a try. My wife and I are big fans of Chandlers and Owyhee Tavern especially when looking for a cut of meat.
