We had a great experience here. I had filet mignon and my husband had New York steak. Both were amazing. Both were medium rare just like we requested. Our server was Ms.Li Shu and she is wonderful. She was very attentive, personable and to the surprise of my husband she spoke some German with him (his mom is German and he always loves hearing the language) . We came here for a birthday dinner and it did not disappoint! This is located on the ground floor of the Grove Hotel. You'll walk in through the lobby and then see Trillium immediately to your right. Our hostess was awesome and counted our party, figured out our reservation and walked us to our table without even having to give our name! Our waitstaff was also very attentive and kind. During COVID - our staff was fully masked and gloved. Guests wore masks away from their tables. We ordered the poutine and brussel sprouts for appetizers. I have never had poutine like this before - - it was a light cream sauce with dill and flakes of salmon. It was seriously so good. Had I been alone, I 100% would have licked my plate clean. The sprouts were yummy but I can't remember much about them as the poutine stole the show. I ate the trout for my entree, but also sampled all the other dishes at my table. One of my favorites was the meat loaf! Which is very surprising considering that I don't care for meat loaf. The only downside of the meal was my drink. I wish I could remember the name but it was not to my liking. Not because they did something wrong, but because it was very strong. This is supposedly one of the nicest restaurants in Boise. My friend and I booked it to celebrate a birthday while we were visiting. The service was excellent - I wish I could remember the names of the two servers we had, I want to say one was John (he had an epic beard). The good on the other hand was..lacking. A lot of the options were pretty heavy, but we were hungry so that was fine. I got the chicken and my friend got the grilled cheese, and we ordered a cheese/charcuterie to start. The charcuterie board was very good, I loved the cheese selections and the house made crackers were awesome. The cheeses were all delicious, and I appreciated that our server subbed in extra salami for me instead of the prosciutto. The entrees though? Salty, salty, salty! The chicken so much so that I couldn't even eat it. The polenta fries that came with it were bland and dense like rocks. After a few bites, I was done. My friends grilled cheese was equally bland but she powered through half. The drinks also left something to be desired, either too sweet or too citrusy (depending on the drink) and not well-balanced as I'd expect a cocktail at this caliber of restaurant to be. We came here the next day for breakfast and again, the service was excellent but the food no so. We ordered oatmeals and coffees. The oatmeal was scorching hot and it was such a big portion, we could have split one between the two of us! Coffees (two lattes) were just meh, not especially good or well made. I'd recommend they put whoever is in charge of training the servers to help out the kitchen because if the food was half as good as the service, I'd definitely come back! The Trillium is a wonderfully special place to eat! The staff is incredible and the food is marvelous! I would highly recommend the fillet mignon, smoke + fire pizza, and the braised pork shank. We were not there for full dinner (not at those prices) so I got the "boise cheesesteak" and was disappointed to find it was not a cheesesteak at all, but a French dip with mushrooms and cheese and the meat to mushroom ratio was way off. But the meat was tasty, if you got some. I love a good French sip but let's call it was it is. Even served with au jus. Fries were really good. Cheesecake was over the top sweet. And dry. But the crust was really good. I was surprised bc it wasn't graham which sounded disappointing but it was Yummo crust If the prices were more reasonable for the product, they deserve 4 stars. Two stars for friendly staff and good food. Meeting a friend while traveling through Boise and she called the day before to investigate outdoor seating options for breakfast. She was told we could sit outside upstairs where there was a fire pit. When we arrived, they said we should sit in their patio instead. No fire pit, no heat lamps, pedestrian and street traffic walking by the whole time. We should have moved but it did not feel like an option. Very disappointed in surprise charges on my check. The dish I ordered was $12 on the menu and I was charged $17. I did share this so maybe it was a split plate fee? But $5?! And undisclosed on the menu or when requested? It was also not itemized that way on the check. Not ok. And because of coronavirus, my party sat outside. Instead of ice water, I requested hot water and was charged $3. For a cup of hot water. I order this frequently at restaurants and have NEVER been charged for this. A nominal fee for use of the cup would be fine but seriously, $3 for a cup of hot water when you know they have instant hot water available all the time?! Instead of leaving this restaurant feeling satisfied and ready for my day, I left feeling nickel and dimed. I wish I'd gone to another local restaurant. read more

We decided to check out Trillium for the first time; we had an event in downtown. We'd heard they had a great happy hour (which they do!! It's from 4-6 Sunday through Thursday). It's a beautiful space; it's part of the Grove Hotel in downtown; inside tip they offer free 3 hours of valet parking just tell them you are dining at Trillium. Okay-so what did we like most? Okay their Szechwan cauliflower is next level it was so good!! I am not a vegetable guy and I loved it. We both said we'd come back just for that (plus it's half off during happy hour). My GF ordered the smoke and fire pizza; flavor was great that crust was a little off. I ordered one of their more heralded dishes the Bison meatloaf. I had high expectations it was a total miss. For starters the food was lukewarm; the meatloaf was dry. The sourdough Texas was off instead of being on the side was on the bottom line an open faced sandwich it was odd. The celery root mash was a miss I'd stuck with regular mashed potatoes or at least give the customer that option. The portion size was huge which was good considering it was almost $40. The dish overall was a big mess. Overall my lower stars on this visit were based on misses on our entrees; happy hour and waitress were excellent!! I think Trillium has a lot of potential; I'd give it another shot we saw lots of other entrees that looked tempting. They have a great selection of entrees offering elevated dining fare with a lot of their own twists-where can you get tomato ice cream and trout? If you are looking for a nice night out or a new happy hour spot definitely give them a try!! read more

While visiting Boise to see my daughter, we made reservations for this place. Parking is tricky, maybe a few blocks away. I ordered the beef cheeks, my daughter ordered the spare rib sandwich and my son in law ordered the beef stroganoff. While I've had beef cheeks before, I've always had them shredded for tacos. The meat was tasty and it was served with a heavy pasta, a purple pasta at that. Wasn't bad, just different. We all left full and with leftovers. I'm not sure on the price. read more

So started off on the wrong foot. The hostess sat us at a table, and a server immediately came and had us move explaining she didn't know how to do her job. It was rude, but my mother and I obliged. And considering he only moved us out of the booth to one table over, it seemed completely unnecessary. Later we noted it was the same server throughout the entire section, so it wasn't about equity of tables either. Very strange. Overall the food was just alright. Everything was super rich, over seasoned, and just a ton of competing flavors. After two bites you didn't want anymore. It was like a sledgehammer to your taste buds. Overpriced and over flavored. The only stars awarded were due to the third server we interacted with, which was prompt, kind, and professional. The only positive out of the whole experience. We will not be returning. read more

I guess this restaurant deserves four stars, maybe. With a reservation, we awkwardly walked into an empty restaurant at 8:30 on a Thursday night. There was no way I was eating in an empty, cavernous room. The maitre d' allowed us to grab some menus and sit at the lobby bar. The people at the bar were all there on business, forlornly sitting by themselves. The service behind the bar seemed college young and was pleasant enough, but there was a concrete lack of sophistication. Portions were huge, fit for a nose guard. The short ribs and bison meat loaf were both monstrously good, as was the wedge salad. I was just expecting high end, and a level of class that was not evident in the Grove Hotel. I could have been in a sports bar in Fort Wayne, Indiana. With my expectations dashed, but my stomach full, we hurried back to the Inn at 500 Central on this bone chilling night. read more

Perfect Lunch! The service, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the food, together added up to an outstanding meal. Our servers, Emile (and I'm bummed I forgot the name of the man who was on his first day of training), were both friendly and attentive. We started with the brussel sprouts, that were one of our top two favorite b-sprout appetizers ever... 66 Acres in Albuquerque is the other. I had the Tablerock Cobb Salad and my husband had the Huckleberry Turkey BBQ Sandwich--what a creative menu! Both were excellent! So why not go for dessert? The Hazelnut Chocolate Torte was superb, encased in a silky smooth ganache, and filled with creamy hazelnut goodness, another rival for top two; it was as good as Urth Cafés Chocolate Hazlenut Cake. The Cherry Cobbler was a perfect combination of sweet and sour. Next time we're in Boise, we look forward to trying dinner at Trillium. Truly one of our top food experiences ever! read more

I needed to get an early breakfast before heading out to snowboard and Trillium was one of the only places open around 7am. Luckily, it was in the bottom of the hotel I was staying at. First of all, the ambiance is super modern and colorful. I loved the fun vibe that it gave and the whole place was super pretty. I got the biscuits and gravy with sunny side eggs and house potatoes. One thing I can say is Idaho really does it's potatoes well! It was fluffy and extremely well seasoned! The biscuits and gravy were decent but it didn't do too much for me. It was slightly dry and lacked flavor so eating it with the yolk of the egg really helped. Overall, it was a really hearty meal and kept me full for most of the day! read more

Fantastic spot for classic American food. All of the steak/pork options are great, with some pretty decent pasta options as well. Definitely recommend the Paloma Spritz cocktail. We were so happy to find this place! Hotel is super swanky and beautiful. Trillium was a sexy lil addition with a surprising menu. We don't expect much from a hotel restaurant and we were blown away. Our server, Nick, went above and beyond helping us decide. We were feeling particularly indecisive that night and I struggle being gluten free but he was patient and informative. Food was amazing, I'm so happy I gave the tomato ice cream trout a chance- I was still talking about it the next day. My husband ate so much of the Brussels he couldn't finish his sandwich. I'm not usually a big fan of restaurants that are in hotels, to me they often seem a bit less than they could be. Trillium is an exception. Service was good & we had a delicious lunch. My husband raves about his meatloaf dish & I thoroughly enjoyed my warm crab salad. There was a good amount of crab and it was perfectly warmed! The addition of the asparagus was a nice compliment. Service was prompt & pleasant. We also had the stuffed jalapeños to start, but we had them hold the jelly that was to come with as we aren't eating sugar in 2020. So, those were just ok. They likely would have been better if we ate them the way they were intended. They weren't bad, just a bit blah without the jelly. read more

We had gone to Trillium this summer to celebrate my daughter's birthday. I gave them 4 stars then because there was something not right about the Idaho Cheesesteak. It wasn't that we didn't like it - (we didn't) - but there was something just not right about the taste. Well, Chef Chris was not going to allow us to leave with that literal bad taste in our mouth. He explained that he had noticed it as well that particular day and that it had to do with the way the grill had been treated/cleaned and invited me back for a do-over on the Idaho Cheesesteak. So, I went back this week to celebrate my birthday - this time along with a friend who was celebrating her birthday as well. The service here is a 5-star. From John, the host, to Emilie our server, and to Chef Chris. I ordered the Idaho Cheesesteak again. IDAHO CHEESESTEAK, 14.00 beef tenderloin, wild mushrooms, white cheddar, candied onions, Yukon potato roll, beer jus + fries The weird taste from last time was gone *huzzah!* It's a great sandwich. It's a little peppery, and you get a good amount of beef. It's a winner. Also a winner - the fries. They have really good fries. They aren't steak fries, but they are meaty and delicious. They give you a free dessert on your birthday *woo-hoo!* and I ordered the Maple Bourbon Crème Brûlée. Holy Mother! This was out of this world delicious. You get maple first, and then bam, that bourbon comes right though. And it's the perfect texture - (in my opinion) - not runny, not eggy, just like a thicker, firm crème. The prices here are reasonable. The service has been fantastic on both visits. And that free valet parking is a huge benefit especially if you have someone with mobility issues in your party. I cannot recommend Trillium enough. It's definitely tops on our list for a nice dinner out. read more

The food has improved significantly, dare I say very good? My husband and I both had the Steelhead Trout with Couscous. The couscous was cooked perfectly and the steelhead was well seasoned. Tressa (sp?) our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable with a great sense of humor too! My suggestion to the chef is to incorporate more fresh, seasonal vegetables. A vegetable would have rounded out the dish out nicely and was sorely missed. kudos as we have been to the Trillium in years prior to the updates and it was not good..
