This place seems like the local dive bar at first. It looks like a cool spot (for grown-ups) to drop in for drinks, music, hanging out. The last thing you'd expect -- even after reading reviews here -- is a family-friendly spot with good service & good food. Surprisingly good, especially considering the menu & staffing. We wandered in on Sunday evening -- closing time for most of the town -- and almost turned right around. Unfortunately several other parties had the same first impression, and didn't stay. Late lunch at Trillium Cafe was just what we needed after a long morning driving Hwy 30. Went to hood river for a wedding recently and literally stumbled in this place. me and the boys heard the noise of pure heaven and what was the noise you wonder "MCDOOGLE".. This guy is the best muscian ever, he plays a mean banjo and is entertaining as shit.. i would definatley go to hood river just for this multiple times.. also, they have a wicked humus plate that is super clean. tripple D needs to check this place out! The BEST Tater Tots Ever!!!!! I was visiting Hood River for the day (mostly metered parking) so our time was limited. We found this place using Yelp. Decided to go even though they had some unflattering reviews. It was nearby and not busy on a weekday. The Food and Service were both incredible. Fast Service (1 wait person) taking care of the 4 tables that were occupied. The food came out quickly and cooked perfectly. Wait person was quick on soda refills too. Great burger and sandwich restaurant! Their fries are spicy with a hint of garlic. My wife had their Chicken Charlie sandwich with pear and roasted garlic and loved it. I had the Blackened Chicken Burger with blue cheese on it and was one of the best burgers I've had in awhile. My daughter had their cheeseburger sliders and said they where good as well. This family drive to Hood River to have their Fish and Chips and burger was all worth it.

For the most part the food has been good, very good and friendly service but, one occasion I went to use the restroom with half my drink still at my table only to come back and it was gone and people who were at the bar were sitting at my table and there were plenty of other tables. Another time I ordered a diet soda and overheard a woman refuse a root beer for her son, when I got a refill it was root beer. Hmm? read more

Four of us recently went in hungry recently, and four of us left smiling and contented. The service was outstanding (thanks for the dressing recipe!) and the food was perfect for a mid-day lunch. I even go there for dinner. My wife had the cajun chicken, another friend had a steak, and another had meatloaf. All of them devoured their food. Me, I got the fish and chips and I have to say, WOW; what a perfect amount of batter. NOT GREASY AT ALL. Generous portions of awesome fish (albacore, which totally worked). And the side salad we all had with our meals was off the hook for a "side salad". Pecans, pears, and a dressing that was light, but choked with flavor. I visited the Trillium Cafe for the first time about a month ago. We visited again last week and our experience was so good that I felt like I had to write and give these folks the props they are due! The food was awesome, and the service was amazing. On our first visit I had the Chicken Parmesan sandwich.The homemade marinara on the sandwich was fresh and delicious. My husband had the burger, which he really liked, and the homemade thick-cut fries were superb. On our visit last week, I had the fish sandwich, and my hubby the fish 'n chips. Both were made with hand-dipped albacore tuna. I had never heard of fried tuna before, but this was AMAZING. By far my favorite thing yet. The tuna was thick, yet tender and meaty, covered by perfectly golden batter. The texture of the fish was great, succulent and rich, and even the tarter sauce was above our expectations. The beer choices were good, too, offering several draft and bottle options. The bartender said they are open "late," so I could see this being a great late-night spot, too. I can't say enough god things about our experiences at the Trillium. We left on both visits saying "that is what a pub style restaurant should be like." Casaul, great service (the bartender/maybe owner? was SO nice!) and great food. We will stop here from now on when heading back to Portland from our visits to the gorge. read more

What's not to like about a place with "Where the Wild Things are" guys painted on the wall. It's kind of a run down Nashville type bar with one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The fries were hand cut/homemade. We hit happy hour so our local brewed IPAs were discounted by a dollar. It was a smaller local brewery-wish I could remember the name; they were good. Not a fan of this place. Born and Raised in the area and have been here many times and never once felt that this was a great place to eat or have a drink at. Kinda like walking into a Subway and then you leave and that smell sticks with you, the Trillium has a distinct smell that follows you after you go in even for a split second. Typically the waitresses are mad at the world and annoyed so your service is going to suck and it takes an excessive amount of time to get your order. The food is hit or miss and mostly a miss. The prices are too high for drinks and food. And on the weekend, the place is too packed in such a small little area. The patrons that sit in the little area right in front of the Trillium are always smoking (within 10 feet of the door, btw) and on the verge of public intoxication. This place has had a reputation for being a dump and for having multiple issues with fights and over intoxication. Its touristy and to hippieish. Not a fan. read more

We were in Hood River for three nights. Hood River seems to be a casual town that has jumped on the beer and wine bandwagon just as our town has. We were looking to have one casual night out to a restaurant that had a full bar. I did my usual search on the top travel sites, and Trillium came up with fantastic reviews. Yes, it is a bit funky, but don't let that stop you at the door. When we first walked in there were only about six others in the restaurant. We sat down at the bar, and ordered Margaritas on the Rocks, and Vodka Cran. By the time we ordered dinner, the place had filled up. My DH ordered the Meatloaf dinner w/fries (Meatloaf is made fresh daily), and I ordered a Beef Dip w/fries. Best Beef Dip I've ever had!!!! I am totally serious. My DH raved about the Meatloaf. We had so much food on our plates though, that we seriously couldn't finish it all. We really could have split a meal. This was a great find. We will definitely go back the next time in town. Next time maybe we will get lucky and be there for the entertainment?? The only con: service was a bit slow. The bartender was by herself for the longest time juggling all the bar and tables until a gentleman came in to assist her. She did a fantastic job though, and kept up a smile. read more

This is the second time we have eaten here. We like the people, the ambiance and the food. This time we decided to take their outside table because it was a nice day. It wasnt as much fun for 2 as I think a larger party would be. The door was noisy and the people entering and leaving made it kinda busy. Im not complaining as we chose to sit there, just trying to help the next couple. Nice server. We always start with salads and they were good, fresh and not bagged greens. The blue cheese was very garlicky and yummy. Homemade buttery croutons. Today Hubby had the Fish and chips which were albacore tuna and delicious. I had the mac n cheese with brats. It was really good and freshly made it seemed. Its a cool place. the only reason I gave it 4 of 5 is because we got a tomato as a garnish on one of our salads that should have never ended up on our plate. We then split a spinach salad and the fish and chips that were changed to tots. I missed that the fish and chips came with salad so we had plenty of greens. Albacore tuna was wonderful.
