Awesome venue from the friendliest ushers when you first walk in to the personal feel of the small…read moretheatre. I know everyone has said it, but there really isn't a bad seat in the house (to the point where I'll probably never pay for anything other than the cheapest seats). It is very clean. I prefer this theatre to larger ones...you feel much more involved with the show & don't struggle to hear/see, so you get all of the details. Great for a casual, cheap date. I also liked the convenience of everything downtown has to offer being right outside. Parking was a hit too- even though Monster Jam at Ford Field & another show at The Fillmore were going on, we were able to park behind City Theatre for ten bucks. Maybe it was just a lucky day, I don't know. Venue aside, I have to say that Robocop The Musical! was amazing, maybe even the best show I've been to. Impressive, clever, localized script and talented actors that made me laugh on a day when I was super sick & crabby. I am so excited about what a great night I had at this place!

The show started at about 8:10, and was over by 9:40 or so. I must compliment the theater on keeping the temperature at a nice, cool, comfortable level. It was pretty hot outside, so it was great not to be actively sweating during the performance. It was a great night.

Holy cow this place is such a cool hidden gem! Sure, it's a little rough around the edges, but I am…read moresure it is much much more polished today than it was even a few years ago. Going to see a picture at the Senate makes me feel like I'm one of the cool kids or in on some kind of local secret. The star of the show is the organ. Don't sleep on the pre-show organ recitals. This ain't your momma's church organ. This is an organ designed for silent movies and you can hear the difference. That might sound a bit odd, but trust me on this one. But the building is also super cool. I love the way the lobby abuts the theater. There are no doors dividing the two which is just one of many classic design elements that make you feel like you're spending the evening in a different era. Same for the concession prices! And for that matter, the ticket prices. It's hard to beat $6 to get in and $2 for a drink. Of course, for these prices you aren't getting modern sound or screen quality. And while the all volunteer organization is working on it, it's the sound quality specifically which drags the Senate down a star for me. I found it hard to make out the dialog for a classic movie to which I already knew most of the words. In that case, it was fine. But my companion found themselves confused about the plot as the dialog was compromised. That said, I'm all about going back and watching as many subtitled foreign films as I can. Plus, I might just rearrange my schedule so that I can attend the next silent film played with live organ accompaniment. I fully expect that to be a five star experience. And as the Senate gets more popular, surely the improvements to the screen, projector, and sound will be close behind.

What fun! Secure parking, updated interior and great refreshments. This venue was a great…read moreexperience to watch a show

I am a huge movie fan but oddly enough today was my first visit to the Farmington Civic Theater. I…read morenow use MoviePass and the Civic Theater is an option, and only 15 minutes from my house, so I decided to try it out. I had heard they do not have recliners, they have regular seats but overall they are comfortable. I will say I'm 5'5" and didn't think there was a lot of legroom, though (which could be a problem if I bring my 6'4" husband with me next time to see a movie...). I will say there is a front row that has all the legroom you could desire though so that's always an option. I came here to see Hitpig tonight, and it was on the 2nd floor - definitely allow some time either before or after your movie to check the second floor out because it's basically like a little museum dedicated to the theater's history, and I found it very cool, especially the old projectors that they have. Both the first and the second floor have bathrooms, also, which was nice. There was a sign on the door to the theater that says on Thursdays they do $2 sodas and popcorn with ticket purchase, which is a good deal. I didn't buy any concessions today but I saw they had soda, popcorn, candy, and a few other things I would imagine. This is a cute theater; not going to lie and say I didn't miss having recliner but I would come back here to see a movie and maybe go out to eat in downtown Farmington afterwards. Also, they have parking for free in the back, behind Basement Burger Bar and the other restaurants nearby.

Such a charming little old school movie theater. Cheap tickets, yummy popcorn, and good movies.read more
