The Penn Theatre in Plymouth, MI has kept the tradition of cinema alive for over 78 years. Located right in downtown, this historical theatre shows everything from classic films to newer run movies and documentaries. Before going in you are met with the marquee that looks beautiful with or without the lights on. When you step inside you are immersed into a beautiful lobby that takes you back in time. The lobby and concession stand are smaller in size (like most older theatres), but the volunteers make up for this by their service. They are quickly ripping up tickets, slinging up concessions and answering questions. When entering the auditorium you can appreciate the older style seating and overall layout. Movies tend to sell out to so get here ahead of time to buy your ticket! Most shows here are $3 and are cash only at the box office outside, but there are some occasions where you can buy your tickets online ( classic movies, documentaries and special events). I personally love the tradition of "going to catch a movie" by having to rush to the box office when a popular movie shows here. I do not know the exact price of concessions, but they aren't super high priced like some theatres you go to. I would recommend this theatre to anyone in a heartbeat! Due to Covid-19 all movies have stopped playing here, but the Penn has started to do "Concessions To-Go" where you can buy concession outside to take home. This is a great idea and supports the theatre during these unknown times. Support your community and support the cinema! Loved this theatre over the years and so many wonderful movies here as far back as I can remember. There are current and classic movies that show here. It has been around for 78 yrs.My favorite memory is my grandma, mom, me and my sister seeing John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever and dancing all the way out of the theatre. It's an adorable theatre in a perfect downtown area for a fun night out. With the pandemic, all theatres have been closed since March which makes me worried as I like theatres. This location has a fun option selling some concessions on Fridays and Saturdays from 6-730pm by paying by suggested donation at the box office and picking up at the next window. I enjoyed my popcorn and small drink while enjoying an evening with friends. A small drink and popcorn is a $5 suggested donation.. Candy is available also. Here's hoping this helps this lovely theatre gem

Classic, single auditorium theater. These are a dying breed. I came here for the first time last month to see the Aretha Franklin concert film Amazing Grace. Unfortunately, it's waaay on the other side of the town from me so who knows when I'll be back. I loved the hand painted movie posters by Janisee Lahti Larsson in the lobby, as well as her murals on the side of the building. The front facade looks very classy, with it's plain white Marble, but lacks pizazz somehow so it was nice to see something livelier on the other side of the theater $3.00 tickets here at this non- profit. Of course, that means second run, but just check the listings for something you really want to see. I'm taking them down a star because the popcorn wasn't very good. (It was also slightly disappointing to see the neon marquee unlit when I got out from my movie as I wanted a pic but I imagine the budget is pretty tight.) Downtown Plymouth is pretty nice, too, so if you're around this neck of the woods consider the Penn Theater.

Go back in time to the days when going to the movies was an event! I'm so glad Plymouth has save this old style theater! It is complete with the little stage and curtains that open up before the film begins. And if you're looking for a wonderfully romantic evening around Christmas time, don't miss their annual showings of "White Christmas" and "It's a Wonderful Life!" I can't tell you how awesome it was to see these classic films on the big screen! And everyone applauded at the end. The staff was young and sweet... One of the young girls appeased us and took our picture in front of the hand-painted "it's a wonderful life" picture. Maybe next year, the guys could dress up in tails and the girls in a conservative-style cigarette girl outfits. Just a thought. Oh, and the best part... The tickets were $3! And I got a large popcorn and a water for around $5! Now that's the way it should be! We were there both times for the late movie and they didn't open the doors until about five minutes before the film begins, because there's only one theater and limited space inside, I assume. So, bundle up and go to one of the local chocolate shops and grab yourself a hot cocoa (Yum!) before you stand in line! You can also enjoy their beautifully decorated park right across the way from the theater! What a great way to get in the Christmas spirit! Way to go Plymouth!

Cute local theater. Not the comfiest seats / best screen but you can't beat the price and it's a fun historic landmark. :)

Only downside is people do not know how to turn their phone off. Our scheduled movie was 8:10 and it didn't end up starting until 8:45.

Typically we go to another theatre that's a bit closer with some better amenities (a fairly robust food, menu, a full bar, etc) but we came here because it was the only theatre in the area showing a movie we wanted to see. Gone are the days of the giant movie releases where multiple concession counters are open, so parts of the building do feel like of deserted, but it was still pretty busy for a Monday night and there was a bit of a line, though it did move pretty quickly. A lot of it is grab and go (including most hot food), so it's convenient and quick, though the quality does suffer a bit not being made to order (compared to their local chain competitor who delivers your food to your seat). I got the chicken fingers and we split some fries and they were ok. Not great but not terrible. It got the job done. We also split some popcorn which was freshly popped. I'd probably just stick to that and a soda next time. The theatres are clean and the seats themselves are recliners and pretty comfy and in good condition. Projection was good, as was the sound. Commercials/trailers were almost a half hour long which felt a bit like overkill, tho. Over all, it was fine. Not impressive enough to get us to change our regular theatre but serviceable for a visit now and again.

No alcohol allowed! But snacks and NA drinks are ok. They have a concession stand or you can order pizza from inside the arena. Port a potties are available unless you want to walk in the arena. While the front rows are reserved for cars and the further rows for SUVs and trucks, it can still be difficult to see if you have a big vehicle in front of you. Occasionally, someone will also leave their headlights on. I found that prices have risen since I last visited, but it's still a great deal for a fun night!

They allow you to bring your own snacks and (non-alcoholic) beverages and the spaces are large enough to accommodate camp chairs if you prefer not to sit in your car. We ended up throwing a bunch of throw pillows in the trunk and had a great experience. There is a concession stand and the restaurant in the hockey facility allows you to order food, which we did. The food wasn't impressive and was fairly overpriced for what it was, but they had many options, just not very much for dietary restrictions, so definitely recommend bringing some snacks/eating beforehand. From the perspective of urban planning, this is such an ingenious use of a parking lot that otherwise doesn't get as much use in the summer months. We love land uses that create space for people to gather and enjoy entertainment without having to change the overall location!
