Do not go to this club. ITS A SCAM. I have been twice in the last month and the bartenders there always charge you for extra drinks to things you did not buy. I only go to see the artists I want and I always regret buying anything as I am cheated every time. Last night I just needed some water and asked for a cup of water and the bartender said no that she could sell me a bottle of water for 3$. And then of course she instantly throws the receipt away and doesn't let me sign it and said it's all closed. I woke up this morning to a 20$ charge. This is FRAUD and It's unacceptable that the club allows this behavior to happen constantly. If you go to this place don't buy anything as you will most likely be charged for more. I didn't care for the music. Crowd was cool. It has 2 floors plus an outdoor area. 2 DJs that play the same music.. So what's the point? Yea. Had roaches there. SECURITY CHOKED OUT MY HUSBAND ON THE STREET! 1/5/2014 My husband surprised me for my 30th birthday with a party bus full of my favorite people. First stop was Trio. Wes, who greeted us, was super nice, and we were able to use the VIP table. The servers were super friendly, and we were having a great time for about an UNTIL. One of my friends stepped outside to smoke, and they would not let her back in. We all had wrist bands that they gave us to get back in, and they still would not let her back in. I sent my husband down to get her, and he and the bouncers had a few choice words and next thing you knew they pulled him out on the street (5 guys) and choked him until he passed out. My friend witnessed the whole thing. My husband NEVER laid hand on them, I'm sure they shared choice words back and forth, but there is no need for choking someone. He told them he needed air and he just choked him harder until he passed out. Then said "Get your ass against the wall your going to jail" Police were called, the "bouncers" tried to say he was trying to assault them with a beer bottle, when in fact, he was not drinking beer. My almost 40 year old husband, told the police the truth and he was let go. Sure there was drinking involved, that's why we had a bus and all being responsible. Also, we are all over 30 adults- not 18 year old punks trying to cause trouble. WE ARE OLD. However there was NO reason for choking someone in the middle of the street to the point of passing out. I've managed a bar before, including a security team, and thats not how its done. It not only ruined the nice evening my husband planned for my 30th, it physically hurt him. My husband was so afraid it ruined my birthday, I'm just glad he's ok and not seriously hurt. Fortunately, between the 20 of us, we will never return, and all work for companies and events (who have even had parties at trio before) will never return. read more

If i could give a 0 star I would, the staff were unprofessional especially the bouncers they were so rude. I have seen people denied at the door because that had sneakers but almost 1 out of 4 person in the dance floor were wearing sneakers. After reading some of the reviews from over the weekend, I am seeing we had the same issue as other out of towners- standing in a long line, just to be asked if we have a key. Then turned away with no explanation of said key. Never been asked for such a thing in Atlanta, NYC, Vegas... I guess this place is trying hard to be exclusive. What a joke. This is probably the best club in Charleston, but that doesn't really mean much. They've got a live band downstairs, top 40/hip hop upstairs and an outside smoking/drinking area. It can be a fun place but the night we got bottle service, I realized the club was run by a bunch of amateurs. We were there celebrating multiple birthdays, so we got bottle service and our own private section. Our "security guard" for our area was a girl who ended up being the dj's girlfriend. The girl ended up getting drunk, letting all her friends into our area, and almost got into a fight with other girls in my group. We also had to go back to the bar ourselves to refill on ice and mixers. I'm not trying to be snotty and act like i'm some mega club bottle poppin guy, but when you are ordering bottles, you expect a little better service. The best place to dance in Charleston (that I've found so far)! The place is huge, making for great people-watching and mingling. Downstairs, there's a live band (which has been great both times I've gone) playing anything/everything fun to dance to, from 50 Cent to Britney to the twist (yup - the oldie)... There's a nice patio area for taking breaks from the craziness. Upstairs is another bar (or even 2?), and a DJ spins all the newest stuff. I think I remember pool tables up there, as well... They'll ask if you have a 'membership key' when you get to the door which is just a ruse that allows them to discriminate against anyone they want from going in. I went in one night, then the following night I guess something changed because the bouncer insisted I had to have a 'key'. I saw several other groups get turned down for no rational reason as well. I'd recommend skipping this place--you'll get more worth from your money by spending it at trendier spots like Stars, Republic, Prohibition, etc. read more

I've lived in Charleston South Carolina for almost 7 years, I'm a frequent visitor to downtown king street. I never once had a problem downtown until tonight. My wife and I were enjoying ourselves at trio up until the point a drink was thrown on me near the bar on the second level. Upon being doused with a drink from behind I turned around and confronted the person with the drink and she apologized along with her male friend, I had said "the least you can do is get me some napkins''. The male individual blatantly overserved and intoxicated repetitively apologizing kept grabbing at my arm and I had said for him to stop grabbing me. Upon him consistently grabbing me I pushed him away from me being that intoxicated college kids downtown are unpredictable. His female counterpart then proceeded to berede me with vocal insults. I then repeatedly requested for them to leave me alone and move away from me. I then requested napkins from the male bartender behind the bar on the second level on 11/16. The bartender ignored me while nodding at the kid and his group that he was with that was still grabbing at me becoming more aggressive with his intent to fight, just when I didn't think it would escalate any further was when his female friend threw a second drink on me. I had told the male bartender so he could get security to remove the 2 individuals harassing / assaulting me. I was still being consistently ignored requesting napkins to wipe all the alcohol thrown at me, to my surprise upon securities late arrival I was the one removed with my wife, for no given reason. The bartender was nodding and being blatant about him knowing the other party basically telling me he knew them and he favored them which is why I was removed instead of them. It ruined my wifes and I entire evening and i will never be back to trio! If you enjoy being assaulted / harassed trio is the place for you! read more

Ok this bar is very confusing. Me and my three girlfriends (all beautiful, eyebrows on fleek, nice smiles amazing figures) were visiting from Atlanta and wanted to explore the city, get a little drunk, and take things from there... FIRST OFF you have to have a key to get in.... how you supposed to get a key if you don't live in the city. the door guy looked like shrek and was really rude. My friends and I came here after the party at Bay st biergarten on Friday, and I had no idea that Trio was a club. I was expecting a wine bar or something lol. But I am generally up to anything and was happy for the surprise that it's a full fledged night club. One plus is that we didn't have to wait in a line to get in. The dancing area is of an intimate size but not too small. From the looks of it the VIP area looked pretty bare bones and nothing to write home about. I think my favorite thing was the large outdoor space/back patio of the club. The bar outside was closed this night but that was fine. It sort had a biergarten vibe with little gathering areas. If I can remember correctly these little spaces had fire pits but they were not on that night. It was a nice place to escape the noise of the club. The ladies bathroom had enough stalls and was pretty clean. Also if you are a southern charm show fan, we did spot of the cast members there, who my friend ended up chatting with. Overall, Trio was not what I was expecting, but I had a lot of fun! read more

Trio is one of my favorites. I usually go on Saturday nights, it is packed...but what do you expect? The DJs are great! Especially when they have DJ Apollo & DJ C.Nile...those are the nights you don't want to miss! Always friendly staff and people, great strong drinks as well and never have to wait in line. read more

If you're up for a wild night with music so loud your eardrums burst and you can't see anything but the person next to you. If you want a night filled with strangers because it's so exclusive that you can only get in with a special pass, then here's your place. But it's not for me. The staircase is so scary to climb especially when you're wobbly already, the second floor feels like it's going to fall through with all those people and the music is so loud it makes it worse. The whole top floor shakes so bad it scared the crap out of me. There's so many people in the room the entire place smells like sweat and stale beer. The bathrooms are so small that to get into one of the stalls you have to be less than 160 lbs to even be able to squeeze in through the door. They have so much room, but they chose that tiny room to put in three stalls when it should only have two. I would never say that it's handicapped safe, because it's not. If you're in a wheel chair, have fun going to the bathroom, it's not going to work because the downstairs potty is always broken and the upstairs is inaccessible by any even walking human being. I'm not sure what the men's room is like but sometimes I wanna check just so I don't have to bend into a smaller person to pee. read more

I witnessed the bouncer physically abuse a female patron. This is the second time I have observed such behavior and from a second bouncer. This is unacceptable, regardless of how inebriated a customer might be. read more

Bouncers at the door were incredibly unprofessional. The police asked them to orderly deal with the crowd on the sidewalk and they failed to do their jobs. I was in town for a bachelorette party and it has taken over 30 minutes for them to even attend to us at the front of the line. In fact, I'm still in line and I've given up. Easily the worst experience I've had at bars since frat parties in college. read more

this bar is ridiculous. went on a Friday night with some friends to meet up with some people who were already there. get to the door and the very rude bouncer proceeds to ask us for a "key" no "hey how you doing do you have a key" just "you need a key to get in" without even looking up. keep in mind our other friends are already inside but yet because we didn't come with them originally we couldn't get in. we literally watched them turn away 20 or more people away because they didn't have these elusive keys. Being a local I like to support local businesses but this is one I will never try to go back to. there are a million bars in Charleston who want business and I will go there. there is a reason this bar has closed once before, and I'm sure it won't be long before they close again. Will never go again.... not only do you get tons of drinks spilled on you because they let ENTIRELY too many people in, but they also proceeded to give my card back to the WRONG person. We didn't even have the same last name! Then when I made them find the receipt there were extra charges, apparently drinks were put on my tab that were not mine. The bartender didn't seem too apologetic and said "just cancel it tomorrow, this happens a lot" It shouldn't happen at all!! Oh, and after she ripped up my receipt and told me it wouldn't be charged against me I saw it go through my bank account. We had absolutely no problem getting in. The music here was good and we had a great time dancing the night away. The DJ even gave our bachelorette a shout-out. Its a great place. I frequent there very often and Ive never had or seen any major problems so I feel that the security staff are doing a jam up job. It does fill up fast so you do have to make sure you get there at a reasonable time if it is your first time or you will be in the crowd..Everyone is always upbeat and full of energy from the band to the bartenders to the DJ and down to the security staff. I would recommend that before we do pay to get into the lounge can we get notified if there is a private party on the top level because when I do visit I go straight upstairs..but other than that I love the place!!! So it has been made very clear to me that Club Trio Dance Club Event Venue and Bar are in the business of attacking there customers and taking no responsibility for their disrespectful bar tending staff (Female). Confused by this statement well allow me to explain. On Saturday, February 27, 2016, my sister, my good friend and I decided to attend this particular bar in the downtown area of Charleston, SC. Please understand that I am a mother of 3 that has not been out in more than 3 years and just wanted to take a night out to be an adult with my friends. The night was going great as we partied and danced near the 2nd floor bar most of the night ordering drinks an enjoying the atmosphere along with some casual flirting with the male bar tenders (2). Approaching the 1:00 hour I decided to order 1 more round of drinks for me and my friends. In doing so I spoke with a white female bartender and placed my order across the bar. She made the drinks and then gave me the total for the drinks of $24.00. In return I grabbed by clutch from the bar top and reached inside to provide her with the appropriate funds. In accident I gave her $23.00. In return she started yelling and calling me out of my name saying "IT'S $24.00 BITCH, IT'S $24.00 WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TRING TO DO, IT'S $24.00" in my dismay I simply went in to my clutch once more an retrieved one single $1.00 and sat it on the counter instead of placing it in her hand, and started to pick up my drink. When I looked up from my drink she reached across the bar and grabbed a hand full of my hair and yanked. Unknown to her my sister was standing directly beside me and reached over to grab her in and attempt to make her release my hair. She eventually did so and the security came over and asked us to please go to the downstairs bar. When we got down stairs moments later another security came over and asked us to leave. Once outside I spoke with the 2 police officers outside and expressed to them that I wanted to press charges for assault. Needless to say the female officer that I spoke with was less than helpful in fact accusing me of pulling my own extensions and ripping my hair from my head. After a lot of back and forth she grudgingly said she would go in to speak with the female bar tender. Once she returned she was very dismissive in the situation and said "Well no one is going to jail tonight" asked me for my ID along with the ID of everyone in my party then gave me a card with a case number. I have spoken with the detective on the case along with the bar manager. The manager of the bar Eric blatantly lied to me telling me that there was no footage of the incident that took place on that night because all of their cameras are live feed and does not record. Then when I spoke with the detective he informed me that the female officer from that night said that she watched the video and she couldn't see anything helpful. At this point I just want to bring light to this deplorable situation. So in closing if you are thinking of attending Club Trio you may want to party elsewhere because management nor staff have respect for their own paying customers and will lie to cover their own butts. SO STAY AWAY, Aggressive, violent employee that will lie and are protected by the local police. This maybe the first time someone is speaking out but I can assure you this is not the first time this has happened. I say this because it seems that everyone I speak to just wants to sweep it under the rug. Also the club managers knows that the bar tender is in the wrong and attacked me because they don't even want to press charges nor put a no trespassing order against me they informed the officer that I am welcomed back to the club anytime.
