I drove past it twice looking for it since it's not well marked. The rooms had what you needed and weren't dirty. Breakfast was surprisingly good. I'd rather have a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich than the rubbery eggs at most hotels, and the clementines were perfectly ripe. Security is an issue since doors aren't locked at night and i didn't see anyone at the desk when i wandered through late. But if you need a cheap place to stay, this isn't bad for the price. read more

You get what you paid for. To be honest as you drive up it looks like an abandoned place. There is mutiple potholes on the ground and barely any cars up front. As you enter the lights are dim and the only light that shines the area is the bright light from the sun. Overall the rooms seemed decent. The beds were comfortable, but what i did not like was the stained couches. They had red stains on the blue couch, and the bathroom had holes on the walls which creeped me out, cause people could be watching. They provide breakfast in the morning. They have one waffle station, bagels, bread, water, coffee, pre package donuts, apples, yogurt, and egg and cheese sandwich that you have to warm up. This place is convenient if you are going to explore the outdoors of ithaca all day, and just need a place to sleep. read more

I am surprised the owners get away with branding this hotel as a Clarion. Absolutely, the worst I have been in. The rooms werent clean. - Hair on toilet - Mold in shower -Spiders the size of quarters found on a newly made bed and on the walls. - Wallpaper is peeling off the walls - Open bag of crushed Potato chips and chocolate were found scattered in a dresser drawer. - Parking lots have major pot holes - Various places in the hotel or rooms smelled like a locker room. My first visit to Ithaca I stayed in this hole, er.... hotel. No, I was right, it's a hole. It's way outdated, the parking lot looks like the moon, HUGE craters are everywhere. The rooms look like Carol Brady had a hand in the decorating process. It's way over priced for Ithaca NY, and my room was actually so far from the front desk, I had to go back outside after checking in and drive my car to the entrance of the building my room was in. My room was musty, the TV didn't work, and when I reported these problems, a very creepy man from maintenance showed, he fixed the cable behind the TV and left a can of generic room freshener. Can you say low class? For October, Ithaca was pretty warm, but the room air conditioning was turned off because they turn off the AC Oct 1 every year. WTF?!!? The restaurant in the hotel was bad, diner food at it's worst. Good thing Ithaca has a great restaurant scene (read my reviews on Yelp for my favorite eateries in I-Town) and awesome bakeries. Stay at the Super 8 in downtown Ithaca, it's cheaper, nicer, and the staff rocks. read more

BAD - When I first walked into the hotel, the hallway smelled and I wasn't sure the elevator was able to successfully deliver me to my floor. The airconditioning didn't work in my room. The front desk said this hotel didn't have any maintenance people on staff. GOOD - Comfortable beds. Good continental breakfast. Very nice reception space. Friendly staff. Convenient location. THE BAR...The Clarion has this little bar downstairs and the bartender there is FANTASTIC. Candice did everything she could to make my friends and I happy. We had full control of the music. If she didn't know how to make a drink, she would take the time to figure it out. This bar bumped this hotel from 2 star to 3!!! read more

Would not recommend this hotel. Desperately in need of a deep clean and some upgrades. The parking lot is one giant pothole and when you pull up the hotel looks abandoned. The whole place is very dark and dingy. Pool has supposedly been under construction for the last few years but there was a large mysterious puddle under the stairwell across from the pool. There's an event space right off the lobby that looks like junk storage. Had some troubles finding our room since there wasn't clear signage. Our room was right off on of the entry doors so you could hear everyone coming and going. Room was outdated with uneven carpeting but bed was comfortable enough. Bathroom was in desperate need of cleaning. There was so much mold in the shower and on the ceiling. The ceiling above the shower looked like it could collapse. Room didn't have toilet paper or tissues when we walked in and we had to go to the desk to request them. Pillowcase has something on it. Given how dirty this place was, I didn't want to try the hot breakfast. Definitely not worth what they were charging, especially with the price gauging given that it was Cornell's homecoming weekend. Interesting that there is only one review a year - for a Clarion. That's because this is the biggest bargain hotel in the Finger Lakes region. The place is often empty because it looks like a factory from the outside and it's next to a shopping center versus the Ithaca motels that cost $150 and up downtown and at the airport. It you don't like having an entire luxury hotel to yourself, you MUST be depresssive. Inside it's a dated but luxury hotel with an fantastic amount of space and excellent decor. Out back is open forest that backs onto the bird sanctuary. Next door there is an Ithaca Bakery -- the same place as downtown that draws thousands and is perfect for breakfast. But then, breakfast is included at the Clarion and is good. I could go on but this place is 10 times better than the Ramada at half the price. read more

The check in was easy, the room itself was stuffy, did not feel clean. The few days a year the area is warm and the pool is not working. The complimentary breakfast was good, the area was good for what we needed. The service was good the people were friendly. read more

Grossest hotel ever. I would have absolutely walked out after walking into the musty smelling lobby, but I had my dog with me, and choices were limited. Hallways reeked of smoke. Piles of brush and garbage in parking lot. Soup cans filled with cigarettes near doors. Parking lot had HUGE potholes. Despite the fact that the place was nearly empty, they put me right next to the elevator/exit/ice machine. Needless to say it was noisy. I ended up waking up at 5:30 am and leaving. I couldn't take the elevator, neighbor's barking dog upsetting my dog and noise from the parking lot. I will acknowledge that the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. read more

To start, the amount of stars this dump should revive is -100. Very sketchy, and feels unsafe. Looks like an abandoned building, and the parking lot is always vacant, with pot holes as big an entire car. Resembles a hotel in a horror movie. I didn't feel safe there, because it seemed like no one else was staying there, and the area was very desolate. The ceilings in the hallway were very low and narrow, and many parts were missing. The elevator got stuck for a second. Overall, the building was very dated, and not welcoming or comforting. I was ready to sleep in my car if i couldn't find a better hotel. If you want a step up from dinginess the Econo lodge is right around the corner, it's still not the best but in my opinion anything is better than Trip Hotel. read more

I stayed two nights here, and it was not an enjoyable experience. The continental breakfast was disappointing - half of it consisted of prepackaged muffins and donuts which were disgusting. There was no ice to be found in the building. Also, it was heinously overpriced for what we got. $120 a night for this? I'd have priced it around $60. There was also a very strange building layout. It's a long walk from the lobby to a lot of the rooms. Despite all of this, the staff were polite, and the beds were pretty comfortable, so they have that going for them. read more

I've read the other reviews of this business. The flaws mentioned are accurate. The elevator needs to be repaired or replaced, new carpets are needed, the shower roof needs to be redone. However, the most important thing Trip Hotel got right; the bed was very comfortable. The clerks were very friendly. Breakfast was good. If I could give this hotel zero stars, I would. Do NOT stay at this hotel. It looks like an abandon sears building and the parking lot is torn up. It is dark and there are no lights. I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out where to check-in. After we finally managed to check-in, we were told to drive around to the very back of the hotel and enter the back door to get to our room up on the third floor. The door to get into the hotel, wasn't even locked and there was no room key required to get in. This was very concerning, because anyone could've just walked right into the hotel. As soon we entered the hotel, my daughter and I got a very bad vibe about the whole establishment, if you would even call it that. Like seriously, I don't understand how this place can still be in business. The hallway was probably the creepiest part of the hotel. It literally looked like it were pulled out from a horror movie. And we proceeded to get on and the elevator to go to the third floor. The elevator made a huge jolt which scared my daughter to death before moving upwards. We decided we were no longer going to take the elevator at all. We probably shouldn't have even taken the elevator in the first place, because it literally looked like it was 100 years old. We proceeded to our room and upon opening the door, we realized the room smelt awful. Almost like Something died in there, like an animal or......I don't even want to know. As we sat down our backpacks, we realized we wouldn't be able to sleep here. My daughter even said she would may as well just sleep in the car instead. We were going to go see, Happy Death Day In Theaters, and knew we couldn't come back to this awful hellhole afterwards, so we booked another hotel instead. We then packed our stuff back into the car, and told the front desk staff that we were under the impression the hotel had a pool. As a side note, the pool was said to be "under construction," but after looking at other reviews, I found out that the pool had been "under construction" since July 2016. That over a year. They probably ran out of money to Finnish it. The staff said they would Refund us, and we gave them out room keys and just booked it out of there. It was the scariest situation I had ever been in. Oh, and I almost forgot, on the third floor, there was a red room with paper covering the outside so you couldn't see into it. Look up the definition of "red room" and you can make your own conclusion..... Also there was a creepy ball room, that looked like a storage unit for all the junk. This place should seriously be reported to health services/ the community safety services. I think this place is beyond renovation, it needs to be torn down. read more

Very old looking , no name of hotel on building. Carpet had stains that looked like blood. Old sketchy elevators, from the 1960's, literally. Parking lot was so torn up, some of the biggest pot holes my car has ever seen. Pool was not in service. Drop ceilings , stained and broken. Bathroom shower very old , looked like something out of a horror movie. Beds were comfortable & aside from stained carpet , rooms were clean for the most part. & housekeepers seemed friendly & accommodating. Very small continental breakfast that my boyfriend and I did not stay for as they had few options & ran out quickly. Thankful for a bed to sleep on after a wonderful night out in Ithaca , makes me sad that there is such an eyesore for a hotel in such a beautiful town!!!! I think this place may have been renovated somewhat lately. The outside still looks pretty dumpy, and the elevator is in bad shape. Worst of all, the back doors open onto a shared parking lot and they are unlocked all the time. They need to install key card readers on those. Having said that, the hallways were fine, as were the pool area and lobby. Our room was pretty, clean and bright, with very firm new-feeling beds. AC and fridge worked fine. The bathroom was spotless and the shower worked great. Our safe didn't work and after calling the desk, two guys came up within 10 minutes. When they couldn't fix it, they left to get another one and were back with it in 5. If you only need a decent room for a night or two, and don't need luxury, this place is fine. read more

Do not stay here. Missed the turn into the lot because I literally couldn't believe this was a hotel. Building was literally falling apart. Looks like a scene from "The Walking Dead". HORRIBLE!!! The sheets on both beds had eyelashes, make up smudges, red hairs, and black hairs on them! The parking lot was abandoned, the outside is horrible, from reading the reviews it appears the pool has been "being renovated" for years. The elevator is downright dangerous, the walls have holes and peeling wallpaper. DO NOT STAY here. I travel the country for work and this is the second worst hotel I've ever stayed in (number one had actual blood on the walls and bugs) as previous reviewers mentioned the parking lot is almost not able to be driven in due to the severity of pot holes. Booked this hotel online through Delta - non-refundable. Arrived in Ithaca and drove past - twice. We did not even consider checking in. Suicide and hara kiri fans, I have found THE place for your final act. The facade of this hotel could easily suggest an animal slaughter house and the moonscape of a parking lot confirmed the sense that I had driven into a wasteland. Speaking of slaughter houses, the hallways were NOT designed by Temple Grandin. That being said, the condition of the hallway rugs do suggest that there have been many a stampede over the years. The dirty and claustrophobic low ceilings can offer you a comforting sense of doom. A powerful sense of hopelessness and fear overcame me as the ancient elevator doors closed and I rode up slowly to the second floor. To my surprise, the doors opened again to an equally bleak landscape like the one that I just left. Sadly, the rooms themselves were clean, working and perfectly adequate if a bit small. If you can overlook the room, the rest of the hotel may help push you over your fragile edge. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR DEPRESSIVES. Suggested pay per view movies while staying at this The Clarion Ithaca... On The Beach or the truly depressing film Melancholia. 5 stars for the grim, worn out and dirty public spaces 1 star for the clean and comfortable bedroom. Suggested uses of this hotel... Students who don't want regular visits by parents should strongly hype this place, after one visit, you'll only see them back home over the holidays. You'll be free to squander their funds as you see fit without a bit of monitoring or other unwanted parental intrusion. My family thought it was a sick joke when we drove up to this place. The potholes in the parking lot were unavoidable. The photos were photoshopped bc this place is right out of The Shining. Two of us slept in the rental car bc we were afraid of bedbugs. If the car was any bigger, we would've all slept in there. The room had a mildewy/urine odor. Truly this place needs to just be leveled. Cut your losses, give this hotel to Cornell and let the students at the hotel school redo it. I bet it could be profitable. The place is pure creepy. Dingy salmon hallways with bad lighting. empty. faint odor in the hallways. men and women's locker rooms are a room with a mirror and old lockers. The pool looks uninviting. The restaurant "Nicolette's" is perpetually has a "section closed" sign up and a staff member not to be found within any hours of the day/night. The continental breakfast: coffee if you're lucky, 1 danish cut in 2 pieces, 1 filled croissant cut in 2 pieces and a variety of sad looking donuts covered in plastic wrap. empty canisters labeled hot water and decaf decorate the lone continental breakfast table in the middle of the darkened lobby. The parking lot: poorly lit, pot holes galore, midnight activity such as emptying dumpsters occur. The room is clean, however, with four lights on, still poorly illuminated. The television makes an odd clicking sound when turned on. A mini fridge plugged in but does not work. The shower is either too hot or too cold. My suggestion: take a quick hot shower, if you turn the cold water knob just a pinch, the whole stream of water turns to freezing. The wall thermostat does not work, however there is a heater by the window that thankfully works. The fitness center, or room with a treadmill, bike and elliptical, is pretty sad. Good things about the hotel: free wifi, quiet (besides the after hours activity in the parking lot). staff is friendly when present. We unfortunately booked a room for 3 days in this sad excuse for a hotel in Ithaca, and checked out a day early because we were so appalled. From the outside, it looks like a bombed-out soviet-era apartment building, with an flickering (and faint) "Clarion Hotel" sign on the side of the window-less "conference" center. The poor, kind front desk man simply had no idea what kind of hotel he was handing out room keys to. Between the dimly-lit hallways, the ajar side door leading to the parking lot, the strange noises outside our room at night, or the cesspool they call a "swimming pool", this hotel is straight up terrifying. Although what takes the cake is the parking lot, which may/may not have more craters than the moon; I highly suggest keeping your cars locked. Not even an exaggeration, we came across a tall man in a ski mask dragging something; easily one of the scariest moments I've experienced this year. I've been to Ithaca many times and stayed in many different hotels. This hotel is very well located, the parking lot was large and had ample space. The checkin was quick and easy as was the checkout. The staff are genuinely very nice and pleasant. The room was clean, the beds comfortable, tv worked, ample lamps for lighting, the bathroom was clean. I did not stay for the free breakfast and am always bemused by people moaning about a free continental breakfast. The price was a little high but that's just a demand and supply issue, there was a short supply of hotel rooms that night in Ithaca. If I had stayed the following night the rate would have been half what I paid. I would likely stay here again. I came with realistic expectations and they were met. read more

This rating is not based on the appearance of the hotel, but rather, the customer service. We came up here to find an apartment for the fall. We stayed here, and while the hotel is outdated, the customer service we received was great. They made all changes requested to our room, and the breakfast in the morning actually has warm food. The ladies who set-up were very pleasant as well. If you looking for a stylish, modern hotel, then this is not the place for you. I would give zero stars if possible. Please do not stay here. My family booked two rooms for graduation--a three night minimum. When my elderly grandparents were not able to make it, we were still charged for both rooms at astronomical rates. Further, personal items were stolen from the room (a security vault was not even provided). The hotel is a complete dump and the parking lot is a sea of pot holes. Most disgusting hotel I ever had the misfortune of staying in. The room smelled like dog and was sticky, literally an inch of dust behind the door, I wouldn't let my daughter walk barefoot in the room. We had a reservation which was given away before we got there (2 guests checking in with the same name, what are the odds?) so perhaps if we had our original room things would have been better. If we hadn't been on the road for most of the day I would have left immediately. read more
