    Justin R.

On 10/11/2023 I received notification from my insurance company that Triple Crown-Dentistry was no longer an in-network provider. I spent two hours searching for notification from our dentist about dropping Anthem insurance as an In-network provider. I couldn't find a single correspondence informing us of the change. On 10/12/2023 at 8:17 am, I called and spoke with the Practice manager- Christelle to cancel my other appointments and get clarification about the new change. I explained that I never received notification that my insurance was no longer in-network and was now billed for $81 for a routine cleaning. She stated that the sent several emails and communications about the change and had a sign at the front desk also explaining the change for the past 6 months. Told her that we never received any correspondence and the scheduling coordinator- Ginger has always been so great that I had never gone to the desk in 3 1/2 years I was there. She would I say hello to me by name and tell me I was checked in, so I never had to go to the desk. Christelle was not understanding of my situation and stated that they had sent plenty of notifications and there was nothing that they could do. I said I felt the ethically and morally right thing to do would be to notify patients when they checked in of the changes before the services were provided; she said they had to many patients and couldn't do that. I then called back again at 8:28 am in hopes to reason again with them. When I explained that $81 was a lot of money, she offered to let me split it into two payments. I stated that it wouldn't help and asked if there was anyone else that I might be able to talk too about the situation. Finally offered to have a doctor call me in-between patients. That was when I posted the initial google review below. I never received a call all day. So, I stopped at the office on my way home around 4:35 pm. Explained the situation again to Ginger who showed me the small Approx. 5" X 7" sign on the end of the check in counter that read- "Dental insurance update- We are in network with: Delta Dental, Metlife, and Humana." Nothing about no longer accepting Anthem or any other insurance. Explained that even seeing the sign I still wouldn't have assumed Anthem was no longer accepted as in-network. Explained I came to speak with the dentist about the issue since I had not heard back. Christelle stated that the owners/dentists weren't available until tomorrow and that they leave the office at 5:00 pm and were currently with patients; Ginger went back to explain the situation to the doctor, so I waited in the lobby. Around 4:45 pm Dr. Mary shields came out to the lobby sat down and asked what about my billing question. I explained that I really liked coming to the office for the past 3 1/2 years and loved how nice Ginger always was when I came in and was sad to learn that they no longer took our insurance. It was clear that Dr. Shields was upset about something while I was trying to explain that I didn't feel it was fair to have us pay the $81.00 for our biannual cleaning, when we never knew that we were no longer in-network. Dr. Sheilds had apparently had the below original google review printed out and said that she "couldn't believe I would write the review over $81 and the amount of damage that the bad review would do to her business that she started over $81, thousands of people saw my review and that she would have just written off the $81, if I would have come to her first." I explained I tried calling twice and asked for a call back but never got one and was in-person to get it settled. She said, "The damage was already done. She should be at home with family and her other job rather than dealing with me over $81." I explained to her that that was a lot of money for me and my family. I explained that I felt that it would be reasonable for the receptionist to notify us/other patients that they had stopped taking our insurance prior to providing the service, especially since as Dr. Sheilds stated that "It affected so many patients at the practice." Dr. Sheilds stated that, "it was my responsibility, and I should have confirmed my insurance was still accepted each and every visit." She then told me that it was her business and told me to leave. I thank Ginger at the desk for her help and that I will miss them and left. I feel Dr. Sheilds conduct in front of staff and patients was unprofessional and inappropriate. On a final note, being a healthcare professional, I think it is reasonable to expect that these professionals understand the importance of diversity and differences across groups, such as socioeconomic status. I thought it Original- "They stopped accepting our insurance. Failed to inform us of the change, lied about telling us. States they put a "sign on the front desk". Failed to tell us we were out of network when we checked in and when called about the confusion, refused to assist the $81 bill for a routine checkup."

I've been here a few times in this past week and even at the particular time with my mother the expectations that we got from the cleanliness of the store let alone the customer service was by far excellent . Last night I came in with a friend of mine because I mentor 54 kids well over the past of 9 years . From the moment I entered the store last night I could not have asked for a cleaner yet organized store if it was something I was looking for a young well to me everyone is Young black gentleman helped me and told me where the items were that I was looking for let alone the great conversation of kindness . And this also extends all the way to the cashier behind the counter . The store was as clean and organized as I have ever seen at a Goodwill let alone the excellent customer service that was given to me and my friend my bill rang up a little over 180 something dollars but I found everything that was needed for upcoming birthdays for these 54 children let alone for things to put up for Christmas . It truly starts from the manager Serena down to her workers as a team together that exceeds and excels in this particular location and their job . I am the only female circuit DJ of Kentucky that is still spinning after 28 years . Last night by far exceeded my expectations above and beyond the cleanliness and the customer courtesy that I was extended to . It even tickled me to death to be said that no one has ever given me more hangers the whole time I've ever been here . The other people that were waiting in line were two different customers with their cards behind me when I told them who I was and what I do and that some support I get from other donating places I had to explain that a mentor kids so they never lose a birthday let alone a Christmas which also accompanies a birthday cake or a Christmas dinner .. I could find everything I needed and when I could not this gentleman took me around the store to help me find things and answered all my questions let alone when I got to the cashier . I reached out to the management team today and talk to Serena to tell her how well her store was being serviced by her whole team let alone the cleanliness and the easement of being able to find everything I needed at this time . For I am DJ Bann. I would like to let the Management District management and whoever else that will see this know that this team at this location is by far excellent I couldn't ask for a better experience let alone to come back and keep doing what I do to make smiles and the glistening eyes of children that there are people that make a difference and never give up and they have a word of gold . From now on I will let every person I come in contact that is needing something I will tell them to tell you that Barbara Ann sent you . Thank you for the most awesome and wonderful experience I have had at any Goodwill and all my years keep up the great work and the great team that you have . And like I said from this blessed DJ tell them that Barbara Ann sent you you will not be discouraged in any way and you just might find that one thing that can bring back the memory of lost things of Years Gone by keep up the great work and a great team that you have let alone the manager who oversees the store thank you for my great experience and keep up the great work .

For me, it was getting rear ended where I managed to fracture teeth- my previous dentist at the time, had me on a treatment plan but for whatever reason was no longer reachable. I was desperate. So I put the call out at work (I work for a medical company) and my awesome coworker Eddie Brown said that I just needed to call her. So I did. (And since have recommended her numerous times, to friends at work!) They werent able to get anything from the previous dentist either, but she was able to start me on a treatment plan. That will have been a year ago in May that I started with her. I raved all over Facebook for my experiences, and truly thought I had put one on Yelp til I realized today, that I had not. Let me tell you the most amazing thing about the office first, they are detailed, to the core. They treat you like you are the only one there. They will work with you on schedules, they understand busy fast paced lifestyles. The assistants I have worked with, esp Brooklyn, are hardcore professional and friendly, she is always quick to smile and remembers you from the last time to the next. The desk staff (Kim and Jean, I think is her name) are sweet and friendly as well, and knows her stuff when it comes to various insurances and delays. Dr Wright and the original owner as well have both treated me, and it was like being seen by older sisters who are not only going to tell you like it is, but she is going to make sure you are not in pain. And here is the most amazing thing, and it deserves CAPS, pun intended, YOU CANNOT FEEL HER NEEDLES. I realize thats raising the bar, but she is THAT good. I simply do not know why there are no ratings for her on Yelp but I am rectifying that today with this one. I trust her completely and the drs she has had to refer me out to (repair root canal work, and an unfortunate extraction) were hands down the best in Louisville, and yet, I could feel their needles...Multiple visits in, she hasnt wavered in her attention to detail or that amazing ability to not let you feel the needle, including in the roof of my mouth. Do not let your dental work hold you back if its a fear of needles, you will not feel hers. Tell her I sent you!

I love the doctor himself, and the hygienists have always been friendly; however, my problem lies with the billing and front office. I've have several billing issues over the years, all due from a lack of proper communication and understanding, and seemingly misleading information and advisement. My first incident was years ago from an elective procedure I did at their encouragement, stating that I would have to pay up front, submit to insurance, and they would (more than likely) pay. Granted, she (the front office) didn't say they definitely 100% would pay, and I knew there was a chance they wouldn't, but she was almost sure they would. Well, they didn't... so $2500 later and seemingly some crazy coding issues, I never got any portion of that money back and the procedure didn't do what it was intended to do. As of recent, it's been the results of special cleanings following, again, a lack of proper communication as to what is happening. I'm just tired of dealing with the front office regarding these issues. Although the hygienists have always been friendly, there was almost always a new one every time I visited... either they have a HUGE turnover or they have some program for new hygienists upon graduation. The only people that are ALWAYS there are the doctor, Emily (hygienist), and Carolyn (front desk, billing, receptionist)... which, I believe are the doctor's daughter and wife.

Moved out of town the following month. In late April 2020 I started getting random, automated emails that I owed them an additional $89. I sent them an email asking for a breakdown of that, because I paid out of pocket during the visit. I was told I would get that by email within a week. Here I am 3 weeks later and still no breakdown of the supposed cost. Yet I get another automated email with a link to a new bill. Now it's been knocked down to $29. Still says it is from early January, and is described only as "previous balance." I wouldn't trust this place. They clearly no have idea what they're doing with billing. Random bills 9 months later, that are unexplained, with no breakdown of the supposed procedures other than "previous balance," no ability to provide me with that information, etc. Find somewhere else.

The only reason I went there is cause we were close to this spot. This is the worst establishment ever. I don't even think these people are real dentists. They had a helper that put in the bonding on my tooth. The last 10 minutes of my visit the first hour and 20 minutes was the insurance girl trying to explain to me that she's gonna get everything paid for by my insurance. Going real hog heavy into it how they can make the insurance pay for everything which I know is bull crap. Do not go to this practice! I have chronic pain and just laying in that dentist chair for an hour and a half for a 10 minute bonding was absolutely absurd. They're trying to grab as many people in there as possible. These new people that took over Gerlach are completely horrible. And I mean that by saying, I don't think that they are really dentists.. I now have a swollen face on my right side from where he did the bonding and apparently it is infected. I give this place an F minus. No wonder they got me in so quick. I appreciated their welcoming demeanor and the level of courtesy shown throughout the visit. The cleaning also seemed thorough, which was appreciated. I deducted one star because the hygienist struggled with the X-ray receptor holder and initially declined help when it was offered. Dental X-rays are already challenging for me, and because of the difficulty with the holder, I had to repeat some of the images once assistance was finally accepted. That made the process more uncomfortable than it needed to be. Another concern involved a brief interaction at the front desk. I asked how long the business had been at that location. The staff member began to say it had been about two years when someone else cut him off and stated that it had been there for 20 years. After looking into it later, it appears the practice itself has been at that location for 20+ years, but the current operators are not the original or current owners. The response felt technically correct but didn't really address the spirit of what I was asking. He really didn't need to interrupt a conversation he was not a part of for that disingenuous answer. I also noticed that the sinks in the individual bays did not have running water, which initially made me think the office might be undergoing renovations and is what prompted my question about how long the location had been operating. Additionally, I had to ask for the take-home toothbrush bag and they did graciously assembled one for me. In my experience, receiving a toothbrush, floss, travel toothpaste and sometimes travel mouthwash is typically standard after a cleaning. Overall, the experience was probably what you would expect from a same-day, walk-in dental facility ( which I did make a same day appointment) or a newer office. The staff were kind and professional, but there were a few small details that could be improved to make the visit smoother and more consistent with typical dental office expectations. Overall, the experience was about what you would expect from a same-day walk-in dental facility, a dental school clinic (though I have never been to one), or a newly licensed dentist starting out. I will take some time over the next few months to research and select what I hope will be my long-term dentist. I will also add that they offer a gift card to a fast-food place if you write a review in the office before you leave. I don't believe that compensated reviewers are honest in their reviews, so I declined.
