Dr. Mary Shields (Nunnally) presents an image of success -- from apparently needing financial help from her parents to start her business to now operating multiple lucrative ventures alongside her dentist spouse, including cosmetic injectables training, WinDM training, Louisville Center for Excellence, implants -- lending to what appears to be a very affluent lifestyle affording a sprawling $2.5M home. Unfortunately, that success does not seem to translate into ethical or compassionate patient care. My experience was marked by what felt like deceptive billing practices, including not being clearly informed that the office was out-of-network with my insurance until after treatment costs became an issue, and a disputed balance of $479.20 turned into collections despite their own failure to file it with the correct insurance company after being informed of their error more than once -- AND after a written dispute was filed. In fact, when written concerns were raised about the quality of the work and the billing issues, the response I received was deflective, dismissive, and condescending rather than professional or solution-oriented. We had services that were not performed to proper standards and necessitated multiple visits but were still never resolved - leaving painful and sensitive teeth that had to be treated elsewhere. She never reached out and never apologized for the substandard care or inconvenience. "Their efforts" consisted of making excuses and minimizing the issues followed by a dismissal letter sent certified mail. It was an unprofessional, shallow response to legitimate concerns -- much like you can see in her response to other poor reviews for Triple Crown Dentistry. The office culture also came across as highly image-focused -- giving the impression that appearance matters more than patient comfort or transparency. (Just visit the FB page) Overall, the experience left me feeling misled, undervalued, and deeply disappointed by a practice that appears far more invested in luxury branding and profit margins than quality services, patient trust, and accountability. The dental work was substandard, dissatisfactory, and rushed -- she's obviously stretched too thin to prioritize quality patient care and responds to legitimate concerns defensively rather than constructively. The over billing practices also raise concerns -- as another online reviewer indicated -- charges were significantly higher than standard for several services, seemingly at the patient's expense. I scheduled a bonding and consultation appointment at Triple Crown Dentistry, but they booked me for the wrong thing. They tried to "fix it" the day of, only to tell me they couldn't do anything unless I got a cleaning first. Mind you, I literally had my teeth professionally cleaned last week. You're supposed to do that every six months, not every six days. When I questioned it, the woman on the phone actually said, "Well, people brush their teeth every day, so you can get a dental cleaning every day too." I wish I was making that up. I felt like I was at a shady car dealership getting forced into unnecessary add-ons. Avoid this place like the plague. Find a dentist who actually cares about your needs, respects your time, and doesn't treat you like a walking wallet. Especially not one with staff who genuinely believe daily dental cleanings are a thing. read more

Doctors provided a script so i would not bring as much pain afterwards but let's face it it's dental work there isis some discomfort. They did a great job making sure there was very little. On 10/11/2023 I received notification from my insurance company that Triple Crown-Dentistry was no longer an in-network provider. I spent two hours searching for notification from our dentist about dropping Anthem insurance as an In-network provider. I couldn't find a single correspondence informing us of the change. On 10/12/2023 at 8:17 am, I called and spoke with the Practice manager- Christelle to cancel my other appointments and get clarification about the new change. I explained that I never received notification that my insurance was no longer in-network and was now billed for $81 for a routine cleaning. She stated that the sent several emails and communications about the change and had a sign at the front desk also explaining the change for the past 6 months. Told her that we never received any correspondence and the scheduling coordinator- Ginger has always been so great that I had never gone to the desk in 3 1/2 years I was there. She would I say hello to me by name and tell me I was checked in, so I never had to go to the desk. Christelle was not understanding of my situation and stated that they had sent plenty of notifications and there was nothing that they could do. I said I felt the ethically and morally right thing to do would be to notify patients when they checked in of the changes before the services were provided; she said they had to many patients and couldn't do that. I then called back again at 8:28 am in hopes to reason again with them. When I explained that $81 was a lot of money, she offered to let me split it into two payments. I stated that it wouldn't help and asked if there was anyone else that I might be able to talk too about the situation. Finally offered to have a doctor call me in-between patients. That was when I posted the initial google review below. I never received a call all day. So, I stopped at the office on my way home around 4:35 pm. Explained the situation again to Ginger who showed me the small Approx. 5" X 7" sign on the end of the check in counter that read- "Dental insurance update- We are in network with: Delta Dental, Metlife, and Humana." Nothing about no longer accepting Anthem or any other insurance. Explained that even seeing the sign I still wouldn't have assumed Anthem was no longer accepted as in-network. Explained I came to speak with the dentist about the issue since I had not heard back. Christelle stated that the owners/dentists weren't available until tomorrow and that they leave the office at 5:00 pm and were currently with patients; Ginger went back to explain the situation to the doctor, so I waited in the lobby. Around 4:45 pm Dr. Mary shields came out to the lobby sat down and asked what about my billing question. I explained that I really liked coming to the office for the past 3 1/2 years and loved how nice Ginger always was when I came in and was sad to learn that they no longer took our insurance. It was clear that Dr. Shields was upset about something while I was trying to explain that I didn't feel it was fair to have us pay the $81.00 for our biannual cleaning, when we never knew that we were no longer in-network. Dr. Sheilds had apparently had the below original google review printed out and said that she "couldn't believe I would write the review over $81 and the amount of damage that the bad review would do to her business that she started over $81, thousands of people saw my review and that she would have just written off the $81, if I would have come to her first." I explained I tried calling twice and asked for a call back but never got one and was in-person to get it settled. She said, "The damage was already done. She should be at home with family and her other job rather than dealing with me over $81." I explained to her that that was a lot of money for me and my family. I explained that I felt that it would be reasonable for the receptionist to notify us/other patients that they had stopped taking our insurance prior to providing the service, especially since as Dr. Sheilds stated that "It affected so many patients at the practice." Dr. Sheilds stated that, "it was my responsibility, and I should have confirmed my insurance was still accepted each and every visit." She then told me that it was her business and told me to leave. I thank Ginger at the desk for her help and that I will miss them and left. I feel Dr. Sheilds conduct in front of staff and patients was unprofessional and inappropriate. On a final note, being a healthcare professional, I think it is reasonable to expect that these professionals understand the importance of diversity and differences across groups, such as socioeconomic status. Since I was 5 yr old, I'd only visited one dentist office, had one hygienist and scheduled with one receptionist. Until last month. When our hygienist left the office, I decided to make a change for my family and find a dentist close to home. I found Triple Crown Dentistry through Yelp and because of its location and recent positive reviews, bookmarked it. It happened to be my first dial during "research" and the receptionist was so helpful and friendly that I didn't dial another office. She booked me a spot in 2 weeks! At my former dentist office, we had to schedule 2-3 months out. When I booked, I was told my initial visit would be a bit longer. I would block approx 1 hour; however, other visits should be only half that time. This visit consisted of turning in my paperwork, having a full scan and a check for gum disease. My hygienist answered my questions, was talkative and looked at my scan in detail. The cleaning itself went quickly and I enjoyed meeting with the dentist. She and her husband, the other dentist, share the practice. I appreciated the discussion and casual atmosphere. My second visit was with my 12 yr old. He had a different hygienist and she came to the lobby to introduce herself. As promised, when it was time for Noah to be examined by the dentist, she grabbed me from the lobby. My son also received a scan and they noted changes with a 12 yr molar that would need to be reviewed with an orthodontist. Again, I appreciated the discussion of their personal experiences and referral for a spot that offered a free consultation. A positive for my son, the fluoride was applied with a brush by the hygienist rather than him having to sit with foam "teeth", gel and a suction tube. Much quicker, less disgusting! My husband recently had his first visit. Unfortunately he has undergone several root canals, cavities and an implant. He was super happy with visit and learned implants are offered by this dentist in the office next door. He felt more information had been given to him this visit than the last 5 years. To help with a couple of spots, he received a fluoride treatment. Already they've answered questions about our insurance coverage and invoices. Insurance was filed quickly too. I'll certainly be booking our youngest for a visit soon and plan to continue our visits every 6 months. read more

I started a dental implant procedure in Nov. 2022. Not looking forward to everything involved is an understatement. I just finished the process a week ago. HALLELUIAH!!!!!! That was a piece of cake!!! From beginning to the end I have never felt so well cared for and confident in a dental office. (I'm ancient so I've been to MANY dentists/oral surgeons!) This team of people, Amy, Jo, Dr. Lauren, Amanda, just to name a few was efficient and used the latest technology to accomplish the goal. Triple Crown Dentistry has been wonderful to me since moving down here last year. They are very convenient in location and very flexible when it comes to scheduling appointments; especially with my schedule since I work night shifts at the hospital. They are also great about letting me know if they need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. They also have such a friendly staff throughout their office and I always enjoy coming here. I really enjoy when I have Joelle as my dental hygienist because she's wonderful at explaining what she's doing step by step and she always compliments my smile when I come in. She is fantastic! Was in serious pain and needed a crown asap and they fit me in the next day for the procedure. I have to tell you, I have not been to the dentist in a very long time but this place and the Docs and Staff all were amazing. Also, I literally had no pain with my procedure. I took a tour of the facility and they are hands down the most technologically advanced practice you could ever imagine. They even perform on onsite crown creation in their lab, so i left with the permanent crown. Most other practices send the impression off for creation so they have to give you a temporary. That would be pain to have to come back taking off from work again. My whole visit was an hour and a half for everything. Thoroughly impressed to say the least. I highly recommend! read more

I am probably one of the few people who enjoys the dentist. This office makes the trip even more enjoyable! I always leave feeling great about myself and how I am caring for my teeth! All of the hygienists have wonderful bedside manner and give me the best compliments of how I'm caring for my teeth. Both Dr.'s Eric and Mary are wonderful and take the time to spend with you and answer all questions you may have!
