WHEN: Saturday @8pm To my surprise this huge brewery was not packed, with plenty of empty tables to choose from! I don't usually go to breweries because I don't drink beer or care for sports. But my partner recommend the food here, and I was in the mood to try a new spot for dinner. Here's what I had: TRIPLE ROCKS - $6 Three (3) Mac + Cheese croquettes and chipotle mayo. This was presently well on a bed of arugula (yay free side salaed!), and I thought it was pretty tasty! COCONUT-MEATBALLS - $7 Five (5) Small beef + pork meatballs, Coconut-ginger broth, Thai herbs, Fresh Jalepenos. This was much sweeter than expected, but good! I honestly wish it came with a side of white rice because of the broth, hehe. ARUGULA BOWL - $8 Organic Arugula, Apples, Shredded parmesan, Candied walnuts, Lemon Vinaigrette. I added the Salmon for an additional $6. I was very impressed with how the salmon came out. It was crispy on t he outside, and moist on the inside. I'm always afraid of the salmon coming out dry. I always disliked Triple Rock before because I thought their beers were excessively bitter, but I thought that was just because I didn't like beer. Now that I've spent the last month being forced to get acclimated to the taste of beer (i.e. traveling Central Europe), I can definitively say that I just don't like Triple Rock's beer. You won't find lagers here - just macho ale. If you live off IPAs, you'll probably like it, but I'm glad to be moving on. A lot of people come here for the vibe, and while there is plenty of seating, I'm not really a fan. The board games are like, for normies. The vibe is somehow both loud and lonely. I like cozy bars. That being said, the monkey head is a good deal if you want to get easily wasted. The taste is a little too sweet and the aftertaste a bit weird, but it's very easy to drink, has a shockingly high alcohol content, and comes in a 25 oz bottle. Triple Rock is one of the most notorious Berkeley Institutions when it comes to having a drink with friends. Most folks associate Triple Rock with the classier side of Berkeley as it's on the west side of town, but it's definitely still a 20-something hangout, especially as you get into the later hours of the night. I've spent more time in Triple Rock since I stopped living in California than I did while I was in California (more due to non-location reasons, than anything), but even while I lived down the street, I'd constantly walk past the long line of folks ready to make their debut at Triple Rock. There's ample seating (provided it's not peak time), and a decent menu to go along with it as well, however... Triple Rock's claim to fame isn't it's food (which is solid in my experience) -- it's Monkey Head. What's Monkey Head, you ask? Well, simply put, it's a beer. A good beer that's easy to drink, and only available at Triple Rock at select times (I believe on Thursdays). Anyone between the age of 21-26 in Berkeley has probably had at least one experience at Triple Rock in pursuit of Monkey Head, and generally there are some great memories mixed in there as well. I won't bore you with mine, but I'll say you'd be remiss if you let an opportunity to spend a Monkey Head night at Triple Rock slip by you. read more

One of the things I like the least about Berkeley is the lack of good spots to hang out at in the evening and grab a few drinks and some good food such as nachos or wings. They don't have much of a happy hour, but the glasses of wine and beer are all around $7-10, so they're not priced too bad at all. As for the food, our favorite here are the nachos. They have a good amount of toppings without being overpowering and are very cheesy! The perfect grub to pair with a few drinks! Although I wish they'd serve food later into the night, the 10PM cut-off seems to be pretty standard around this area. All in all, this is a very solid spot, especially in this area, for having a good time with some friends and grabbing some yummy grub food and drinks! I will be coming regularly! read more

We stopped in here for a snack and a drink before continuing our day in Berkeley. We decided upon the Cheesy Bacon Fries, which proved to be adequate, but certainly nothing special. We got the large and the portions were generous, but the fries themselves were pretty basic, lacking a lot of flavor or crispiness. There wasn't really enough cheese sauce on top of the fries to be able to enjoy them all. I've been here before and had a better dining experience, but I wouldn't recommend this particular dish to anyone. **I'd like to start by saying please give this restaurant another shot if you had tried the food pre pandemic and been turned off** My first experience at Triple Rock was in 2019. I got takeout, the service was great but the food was not dry and bland. Fast forward to 2020 when outdoor dining was briefly open. They remodeled and made one of the nicest outdoor areas in Berkeley i'd say. They were also some of the first to get heaters! Big points for that. They have patio outdoor dining upstairs - advertised as roof top- super nice and covid safe feeling. They have mastered contactless ordering. After that they were constantly busy! Its so close to my house, I figured give it another shot. I ordered the nachos and added chicken. BOMB. Completely different then my first experience. I was impressed with the quality, flavor, quantity and price. My friend ordered the potato croquets and she said she could basically live off of just them for the rest of her life. I also went back a couple times just to get beers. They have great beer. Get a growler, you'll be back for more no doubt. I can't wait to go back. First review of 2019, was going to be my last review of 2018! DANG! Triple Rock for the win. Love the vibe, love the beer, love the menu. This is such a nice neighborhoody spot and it's quite large, has a ton of tvs for sports watching, a nice beer list (both in house brews and brews from their sister brewery, Drake's). The original part is dark wood, total pub vibe while the addition is a more modern beer garden (shuffleboard and all). The beers are solid, as well as the food! Is the food the best ever? No, but it's solid pub food from burgers and fries to salads and wings, nachos, chili and so on. The $15 Derby Cobb salad was legit, with all the usual suspect toppings. But I got to say their fries? Meh. Make those guys crispy and salty. Had a lovely lunch after spending the day at the Berkeley Botanical Garden. Thankfully they have a lot of nice outdoor seating and indoor open floor plan, which helped make things feel safer. Unique ordering system: scan QR code and order online. My only hiccup with that was we had to go inside to clarify some dietary restrictions. We ordered the pulled pork sandwiches - Wow!! They were delicious. A bit greasy but the flavor was great and the slaw is a excellent compliment. I wish I had more! Never once were we welcomed nor greeted by a staff member. * The full location was self-seating outdoors with menus available via QR code. * Ordering & creating an account was easy enough the 1st two times with wait staff dropping off drinks (to the wrong orderer each time), but after our +60min. visit in, we tried to place a simple food order that never arrived. * We tried to view our tab +10x via the link texted to us at the start of our visit and each time our table was treated as a brand new party with no ordering history & no wait staff came to our help. I was ID'd, vaccination carded, & wrist-stamped before being allowed to approach the bar to ask for help with my tab. After showing the bartender a list of the 4 beers that were ordered and after describing the errors the app kept throwing, the bartender stated "you've essentially already paid for your drinks. I can print you a receipt, if you want." He printed a receipt, explained nothing else, offered no explanation for why our food never arrived, and walked away to pour another order. Sad day, we're taking a Triple Rock hiatus in the hopes they work out some major kinks! We've been loyal customers for years and even drive 30 min and scramble for parking to get dinner here. The last straw... On a Sunday night we arrived at 8:30pm (9:00pm closing). MID-ORDER via QR code they shut down ordering for the night early and wouldn't budge. So we got our beer, fries, and my salad. But not my partner's salad. Our waiter explained the situation to the manager who wouldn't hear it. In what world do you serve half the table? Our waiter was lovely and apologetic about the situation but that's the only nice thing I can say about our experience. Other cumulative issues... A few months ago I ordered my usual Cesar salad and it was made with cabbage instead of romaine. Luckily they swapped it out. But bizarre. Their beer is hit or miss lately. They rarely have a solid solid sour or Pilsner these days. They were out of romaine and salmon for months (even though romaine was readily available at grocery stores). Came here last night while my friend and I were driving back to Oakland from Vallejo - loved the vibes here! My friend said typically on Thursdays it's poppin' and super crowded because of the college students, but since it was around New Years it wasn't as crowded as it usually is. Thursdays are great here because they have their special Monkey Head Beer that's only served on Thursdays (it's a large bottle for around $9, totally worth, very tasty - not sure if you can buy it off the shelf anywhere). If you go after 6pm, meter parking around the area is free (no problems finding parking last night but I bet during the school year it's rough). Pros: - Decent beer selection - Decent food selection (our order: Motley fries & small order of buffalo + el diablo wings) - Vibes are super chill - kind of mix between a brewery and a coffee shop. There's shuffleboard, large TVs to watch the game, kind of a bar feel in one section of the place. But there's also seating along the windows if you're trying to study/do work here. Good place for a 1 on 1 date or to accommodate a large group of friends. - Great service throughout the night - Decent prices, I think my friend and I split the beer and our food and it was only ~$20 and we were full (granted we did split a funnel cake a couple hours before that). - Split our checks I can see how it might not be as efficient during nights that it's super crowded, so I think I preferred the empty feel of last night. I've been here at least a dozen times now and it's the perfect laidback hang out spot (and they have rooftop seating for those warm summer days!). I was particularly excited when they doubled their space (the new addition is super spacious with tall ceilings and modern aesthetic touches). There are plenty of seating options. Their food here consists of your typical solid bar/brewery food with delicious burgers, sandwiches, mac 'n cheese, etc. They even have Asian-inspired offerings sometimes. Their beer is always refreshing and I love that they have crowlers and growlers to go (we did this during quarantine). I love Triple Rock. Awesome place to stop by, totally lively and fun on a Friday night. Full of folks out but it was pretty easy to find some seats. The waitress was quick to say hello and serve us water and take our orders. We got lemonades, beer, and an app of nachos. It honestly was enough to feed four people with chips left over. Lemonade was very sweet and tart, and plenty of delicious beers all around. Brewery was such a great place to hang and chill out. And I really appreciated the prompt service, we definitely weren't forgotten about or ignored. I hadn't been to this place since we moved out of the neighborhood, and then I saw that they were open for to-go orders during shelter-in-place. Enjoy Monkey Head on a Saturday from the comfort of my home? Yes! They underwent a huge remodel, and this has positively affected the food menu. We found seating easily and the menu and beers were explained to us quickly. My entire family opted for the hot dog with a beer and it was absolutely delicious. They were very nice and put all the jalapenos and sauces on the side so we had full control as to how spicy we wanted everything. It's definitely a nice place for college students to unwind on a Thursday night (or get trashed). Beware that some people here might get rowdy! My wife and I hosted a wedding welcome event in the Richter Room at Triple Rock Brewery. The in-house beer selection and the large party menu items were great for all of the guests. Chelsea and the staff were super helpful and accommodating for our large, 90-person private event on a holiday weekend. They even helped set up an A/V system for a quick speech and we were able to control our own Spotify playlist on the sound system. I love going to triple rock. I took my mom here when she visited me from out of town and she wouldn't stop raving about it (and she doesn't even like beer.) it's always a nice surprise to find out what's on tap because they switch it up so frequently. I also took my dad when he visited and he liked the fly away pilsner so much he made me get a 16 oz bottle to go. The bottle is so cute and the little handle made it easy to carry. Came here after work to watch the Patriot game with my co workers. Plenty of seats and screens to watch the games! They had a basketball game on one screen and the Patriot game on the other. "Triple Rock Brewery & Ale House" Location - Berkeley, Ca Drinks - Flight of Five Price - $12.50 Triple Rock Brewery & Ale House: So as a heads up, this review is from a visit back in December of 2020, so prices may have changed and the menu may be different. I feel the need to clarify that in advance. Now to the review. A homie of mine and I decided to go out and give this "being social" but "distant" thing a try as the options we've been having as of late have truly been slim pickings if I can say so myself. My side of the East Bay was truly not an option, and Berkeley had a few more things going on than what we had in our neck of the woods. So we decided to see what was up. We both had agreed that we wanted to go out and grab a beer..or two..or three, you should get the pic. "Spats" was closed and that was out first choice, but upon taking a small scroll, we seen "Triple Rock Brewery" was open for patronage and we were all too happy to oblidge. In accordance with new "guidelines" set because of the virus named after a beer I don't ever plan to drink again ever in life (bad luck beer, you should know what it is..) all ordering had to be done from your table via an somewhat not greatly polished system, but once I figured it out it was easy like "G". So I looked through their menus and I came to the conclusion that I wanted to try their "Flight of Five" and needless to say I wasn't upset, let me tell you about it.. Flight of Five $12.50 - I choose the flight because what better way to get a little sample of a few intresting brews and to have bragging rights. Like hello!! flights are totally the way to go. For my 4oz samples I choose....Astro Cat, Ipax, Red Panda, Summer Flower and Text Thread. Lets start with the Astro Cat, it was a citrusy pale ale, nice and refreshing. Ipax was for the hop lovers, it's very bold. Red Panda was a unique IRA of sorts, fruity yet earthy, I enjoyed it. Summer Flower was as the name suggests, floral. It was nice this one is for the real beer/ale person. Text Thread was a collab beer with another brewhouse in the area. This one was balanced and had a tropical vibe, it was pretty straightforward and easy. I think I had a nice mix and I liked my selections alot. Overall: "Triple Rock Brewery & Ale House" is a nice option for a nite out with friends or even a date as they do have food and tapas here. I'm sure as things start to get back open in California that things here will slightly change to accomidate being able to get back to the new normal. I definately plan to visit again and I would say this establishment is a ok in my book.
