Cocktails were syrup-y (2/5 stars) but the cauliflower steak (5/5 stars) was phenomenal, and I say that as a foodie! It wasn't life changing but I was genuinely very impressed, and I'd recommend this dish highly. That being said, a few of my coworkers ordered salads that didn't look amazing (burnt croutons, slightly droopy lettuce), so I'm inclined to give this restaurant a 3.5/5 and I'm rounding up because their overall rating is so low right now. Servers seemed overworked and therefore were inattentive and disengaged.

I think the bartender was new... the martini was terrible and served in a plastic cup?? I heard them saying something about how the night before they ran out of glassware, but there's a ton of glassware on the bar in front of me, so I don't understand what's going on. The French fries were good though!

I come here for the mussels and conversation. For whatever reason, my arrival is never during a busy time at the bar, where I go directly. Tonight, there was a young woman learning some basic drink mixing, which I enjoyed watching. I'm never in a hurry here, and I start out with some variety of martini, knowing that I'll be transitioning to wine and mussels. The staff was engaging, and they always grant me extra bread to soak up the garlic butter nectar. Let me also note, before the mussels, I had a half dozen raw oysters, and those were the BIGGEST damn oysters I've ever had. So much yum. Someday I might have something else here. But I doubt it.

Amazing food and a very cozy atmosphere. You feel as if you were back a few decades at a pub!

I give this place five stars based on the food and service. We entered o December 31st to a birthday gathering and saw a small group of about six siting at two small tables that had been placed together. As more arrived we were told we could sit in the larger room but to be aware others may come in there to eat which were not in our party. No other people outside of our group of about 35-40 people showed up so we had the whole area to ourselves. Oysters, chicken piccata, burgers, salads, etc ordered and and everything looked delicious and presented beautifully. Fried and barbecue wings were brought in on the house. The service was provided by cheerful happy faces and the wait for food was short. My only complaint is it was cold on both sides of the restaurant. I've paid more for burgers and fries that were not as delicious and less of a great service in other restaurants. Well done Henry's Bar and Grill!

The food was satisfactory, but the drinks were average. I appreciate the concept of an elegant bar without the overwhelming music and crowded spaces. However, the odors hinted at a less refined establishment - the enticing scents of mop water and numerous pairs of shoes were noticeable. The place's layout was pleasant, but it seemed to lack that extra. I see that they are making an effort. Would I consider returning? Perhaps. The server was friendly, and the place was not busy at all.

One of our coworkers recommended Gather, a large, farm-to-table restaurant, so five of us ventured here for a business dinner. The food and service were definitely 5 stars. Great laid back vibe. We came on a Tuesday night and yet the restaurant eventually got busier through the night. My favorite dishes were: Yellowtail Sashimi and Corn Riblets are both great appetizers and full of flavor. We should have double ordered to split among five. The half roasted chicken had crispy skin and was fairly well seasoned and moist. I don't indulge in desserts as much these days but if split a few desserts among five people you get 1/5 the calories, LOL! I recommend the warm bread pudding, pecan sundae, and salted chocolate chip cookies. In case street parking is difficult (it often is in Berkeley!), the restaurant is located right next to Oxford Garage which has a low flat fee for weeknights.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.

I've been here for date nights, holiday dinners, business dinners, and countless meals with friends visiting from out of town. It's one of those rare restaurants that seems to work for just about any occasion. The service is always great, the College Avenue location is hard to beat, and I've always had good luck finding street parking nearby. The ribeye is my personal favorite and what I order more often than not. If you're coming with a group, the cheese and charcuterie plates are a great way to start. The menu is varied enough that there's always something for everyone, and I've never had a bad meal here. I was genuinely sad to hear that they'll be closing at the end of the year. Restaurants with this kind of quality, consistency, and character are increasingly rare. If you've never been, make a point of going while you still can. I'll certainly miss it once they're gone.

They did partially redeem themselves by comping our meals due to their error and additional time we had to wait, but you would think they would not make such a blatant mistake in the first place. Sloppy service for sure. It apparently wasn't our waiter's fault, who was super friendly, but some manager or somebody, who did completely the wrong thing without double checking, and grabbed our food and set it down on some other patron's table, who I guess then began eating it. Seriously? The food has always been good here but the atmosphere super loud and echoey, not good. So, needless to say, I'm glad they are closing. It's just unfortunate that they are leaving somewhat bad terms with me.

The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. I also saw a patron ordering the quinoa kale salad with fried chicken, and yes, that's the vibe! My family made reservations, which are hard to come by. They need to be made well in advance. We arrived before our 8:30pm reservation and, unfortunately, weren't seated until after 9:00pm. Once inside the dining area, it was lively and loud, intimate, and somewhat more formal compared to their upstairs cafe. Service from all staff was kind; the host occasionally stopped by; our food was delivered, and we were checked on throughout. It was also lovely to peek inside the open-air kitchen. If you dine in their dining area, it's prix-fixe. On my Mom's birthday, they had a salad, pasta, steak, and ice cream. The salad was good--I don't eat mushrooms, but found it tasty and a bit over-dressed. My favorite was the pasta, a little spice. Warm from the noodles but cold from the cheese--the shrimp was nicely cooked. For our entrée, we had a rib-eye. I don't eat steak, but for this occasion I did--it was good, but because I rarely eat beef, I couldn't compare it to other rib-eyes I'd had. The vegetables were good and quite fresh. I gave the ice cream to my family since I don't have dairy, but the fruit was great! Overall I enjoyed more dishes than others. The bread and drinks were also good. I'd be curious to come back for a different prix-fixe. Chez Panisse is a must visit once restaurant in my opinion--whether you're local to the area or live in the Bay Area.
