Here for work and grabbed a burger and fries to take up to my room. It definitely took longer than I expected given the amount of people in the bar and they absolutely are NOT kidding about ID'ing everyone. (Not mad about that, I was just too lazy to come up to my room for my ID and had to pass on the glass of wine while I waited for my to-go order) The vibe seems like a chill drink spot but it is in a hotel so I'd rather post up with my work laptop and grab food honestly. Fun decor, a little eclectic because the hotel is themed around the movie "The Graduate". The burger came recommended and I was done making decisions so I rolled with it. The bun was fresh and a sesame bun and toast to perfection, bacon was actually crispy, the onions on it were impeccably carmelized and the burger was cooked to the temp I had requested. Easily a 5/5. Fries were fine, well seasoned and served with ketchup (I did ask for ranch instead but it was a miss). Way better than I expected for a hotel restaurant. Menu is simple and gives the feel that we do a couple things but we will do it well. Breakfast omelette was delicious. Greek yogurt was not Greek but did hit the spot. Also had fish and chips for dinner. Fish was crispy battered and moist. Fries were waffle and seasoned strongly (if you like that). Cocktails were syrup-y (2/5 stars) but the cauliflower steak (5/5 stars) was phenomenal, and I say that as a foodie! It wasn't life changing but I was genuinely very impressed, and I'd recommend this dish highly. That being said, a few of my coworkers ordered salads that didn't look amazing (burnt croutons, slightly droopy lettuce), so I'm inclined to give this restaurant a 3.5/5 and I'm rounding up because their overall rating is so low right now. The front doors were blocked due to construction, so we had to enter through the hotel lobby. They were 3 different openings from which to enter, but no sign saying Henry's. There were 3 or 4 empty tables inside, and as we entered, a server said hello as she passed. There was one other server in the room, and a table set up as a bar in the back. I walked over and asked the bartender, 'are we in Henry's?' She seemed to have been offended by the question, and said, 'Yes. Henry's is under renovations.' I said, 'Can we sit anywhere?' She replied, 'No a server will seat you. Wait by the sign'. I turned around and looked. 'What sign?' She said, 'By the entrance'. There were 3 possible entrances, and I went to the furthest one, and sure enough, there was a small 'please wait to be seated' sign. We have been staying at the Graduate Hotel in Berkeley and having breakfast every morning at Henry's inside the hotel. What a wonderful experience. The breakfast choices are delicious. We especially liked the crispy real potatoes and chicken sausage which were outstanding as was the sourdough bread, But the surprise was the pancakes. I kid you not but they were the best pancakes I have ever had. Thin, stretchy, and not cakey. More like a slightly thick crepe. They melt in your mouth. If you like this type of pancake, you are going to love this pancake. Also, the staff and chefs are terrific - very personable and caring. Clearly a well-managed restaurant that we highly recommend and to which we will be returning. read more

I come here for the mussels and conversation. For whatever reason, my arrival is never during a busy time at the bar, where I go directly. Tonight, there was a young woman learning some basic drink mixing, which I enjoyed watching. I'm never in a hurry here, and I start out with some variety of martini, knowing that I'll be transitioning to wine and mussels. The staff was engaging, and they always grant me extra bread to soak up the garlic butter nectar. Let me also note, before the mussels, I had a half dozen raw oysters, and those were the BIGGEST damn oysters I've ever had. So much yum. Someday I might have something else here. Went to Henry's for a game day and paid the 10$ for the cover only to get to the bar and have the bartender literally be blatantly racist. I was having a joke with friends and putting on a heavy Mexican accent (it was still super understandable like so much less that Sophia Vergara) and she straight up told me to speak clear English. I was super shocked , did not know how to respond --and simply left to my booth to chat w/ friends until I fully understood the gravity of the situation. Later I went to get her name from another bartender, and she said her name was Maria. I'm not sure if that's her actual name, but simply her name being "Maria" is a slap in the face to all Latinos. Beware! she may be Afro Latino or just African American, but either way the way I was spoken to is completely unacceptable. Just beware, especially when most of their staff (from the bouncers to security) are Latino. I'm a senior at Berkeley and have never had this type of interaction at Henry's. I'm shocked, disrespected, and angry. I can't believe I wasted my hard earned money on an experience where I would be racially profiled. irst off, I have a vague understanding of the problems driving customer service in America. Too many people, not enough servers, "nobody wants to work", all of which contribute to crowded restaurants and slow service. That being said, I do not understand why businesses don't adapt to these constraints. It appeared there were two waiters and two bartenders working on a Saturday night. We had dinner at 5:30, then came back for drinks at 9:30. Dinner was fine, we were up against time constraints (comedy show) so I was a little anxious about getting food and drinks in a timely matter. The food was great, the beer selection and drink selection were also above par. The environment has a great retro sexy feel, which is a nice way to spend a Saturday night. I found the service to be a little slow, again, I understand it was busy, but it seems madness to have two servers taking care of a packed restaurant. Yay capitalism. When we came back for drinks, I waited 20 minutes at the bar before we ended up leaving. Not even a "I'll be right with you, a general glance in my direction... 2 1/2 bartenders were working behind the bar, one of them was visibly overwhelmed, and drinks were trickling out of the bar. Again, I get it. It's Saturday night. So why not make an adjustment. Limit how many people can come in the bar... I know, I know...capitalism. Then fine, limit drinks to beer or wine until the crowd gets under control. There are plenty of other options besides losing your bearing as a bartender and not getting drinks out from behind the bar. I give this place five stars based on the food and service. We entered o December 31st to a birthday gathering and saw a small group of about six siting at two small tables that had been placed together. As more arrived we were told we could sit in the larger room but to be aware others may come in there to eat which were not in our party. No other people outside of our group of about 35-40 people showed up so we had the whole area to ourselves. Oysters, chicken piccata, burgers, salads, etc ordered and and everything looked delicious and presented beautifully. Fried and barbecue wings were brought in on the house. The service was provided by cheerful happy faces and the wait for food was short. My only complaint is it was cold on both sides of the restaurant. Do not go here. The service was extremely slow. It took us 20 minutes to get a table an hour to get our food and they didn't tell us that the chicken pot pie did not come with a crust. An elegant, quiet spot amongst the hullabaloo of the Berkeley campus. Henry's is connected to The Graduate hotel but is open to the public. We stopped by on a Saturday night for a holiday drink after grabbing dinner in the area. The bartenders made us an excellent White Russian and were very kind and chatty. There's a nice lounge space with an abundance of seating options and great mid-century modern decor. This makes it a great game-day spot, and (if you're 21+) you can come in here to grab drinks either before or after a game. BUT, they do the best they can and there really isn't a lot to complain about (at least not in my experience). I've only ever ordered fries or other bar foods here, and all was good. tl/dr: Food was outstanding but the service was the worst I've ever experienced. This review can't even come close to articulating the nightmare that was my dinner. When I found out Eric Wareheim (Heimy henceforth) was coming to Henry's to showcase his natural wine Las Jaras, I was pumped. As a fan of his and natural wine this was my opportunity to taste some juice that has been getting a ton of press -- also getting to crush a Kronnerburger again didn't hurt either. So my partner and I made reservations for 7:30 pm and waited for the night to arrive. We arrived at Henry's right on time and our table was ready promptly, bonus points for then because the place was packed. Also huge bonus points for sitting us right next to Heimy's table (he's a great dude so nothing I say reflects him). Our waiter came up -- hip, good looking young man in a red Hawaiian shirt and ponytail. He guided us through the special menu and asked if he could get us some wine. I immediately asked if I should buy my bottles to go right away because that was the biggest reason I'm here. He assured me that wasn't needed and would let me know if they were running low. So we ordered one of every wine and beer chicharones as well as a Cobb salad wedge. The wine and chicharones came out within 10 minutes of ordering; I had seen the wedge and it was huge so I knew that was going to be longer. About 3 min after bringing us our wine and chicharones the waiter took our dinner order. I got the patty melt and my partner got the burger, we decided to split an order of fries. Done and done, we were pumped. Oops. So 35 min passed and another server came as got us 2 more glasses of wine. I turned to my partner and said that I bet the forgot about the wedge. That's okay with is though because I knew our dinner was coming and it was slammed. Fast forward 20 more minutes and we're starving. We've each had 2.5 glasses of wine and some chicharones. Our waiter comes with our food. Yes!!! It looks and smells amazing and I can't wait to dig in. I tell him that I think they forgot about the wedge and that we don't need it anymore. He agrees and tells us that our fries will be right out. Fast forward 10 min and the waiter presents us with a wedge. I reminded him about our conversation and that we don't want it anymore we just want our fries. Interlude time: Now I realize that sounded sort of dickish but take my word that I was nothing but kind through this entire thing. Okay picking back up. The waiter looked at us and said (this is an accurate quote to the best of my recollection) "well the wedge is here now, don't you want it? I can box it for you if you don't finish. I'll even comp it." Well I'm never one to turn down free food plus I needed something to cut the decadence of my burger sandwich. We take the next 30 min or so to eat the wedge and slowly eat our burgers because we really want fries. At this point I'm fed up and say screw it and just finish my patty melt -- my partner slams the rest of her burger. We've been in there over 2 hours at this point so I just want to go home. The busses comes to clear off our table and at that exact moment the server comes and gives us our fries. No mention of the wait. You. Have. To. Be. Kidding. Me? I let the server know that we don't want them and just want two bottles of wine to go and the check (once again not dickish but definitely annoyed). He then says that they are all out of the wine so he'll just bring me the check... Damn because if you recall I tried to buy the bottle right at the beginning. I was livid but never lost composure. Now when we got the check 20 min later. Yep TWENTY MINUTES LATER. It had both the fries and the wedge listed on the price. Screw that, eternally. I was so exhausted by this point that I couldn't even argue so I paid, left 15% tip on the nose, and we kicked tracks out of this dumpster fire. So I'm never going back. This is sad because I was a huge supporter of Kronnerburger and even defended him when the Piedmont neighborhood people were complaining about his destruction of a mural at the old restaurant. Done. Done. Done. Done. Maybe this was a bad night but damn was it bad -- I can't recommend, in good conscience, this place to anyone and that's sad because the food is amazing. Came here once for a large group dinner reservation (~25 people) and once for a gameday. Overall, the food is tasty enough but way too overpriced for what you get. For the large group: Service was friendly enough, though honestly nowhere near attentive enough for the amount that we spent that night. It was easier to go ask the bar for water multiple times than to get water refills to our table. Gameday: Don't even get me started on gameday. This place is a mess. Why in the world is the line to get in so long? Rowdy crowd that can't keep their shit together, and staff who don't even try to keep it semi respectable. Bartenders who play the "serve pretty girls first" rule. The weakest, most uninspired Moscow Mule I have ever tasted- I was frankly insulted after I drank this thing, after I waited at the bar for 10 minutes to have the bartender stop pretending to not notice me and after I had one of my woman friends help me order instead. Henry's is a fantastic little spot attached to the Graduate hotel like a colorful little anemone stuck to a reef. I came in for dinner tonight with a friend and was more than pleasantly surprised at the space. I liked the lighting and the atmosphere. The chairs are comfortable and the marble topped tables are an interesting accent, but they work. The most important thing here is that picture though. Service was excellent. The server was attentive and definitely knowledgeable. It was more than pleasant. But I'm here to talk about what's in the picture. I ordered the Osso Bucco, and goddamn, that was magnificent. The marrow was sweet and creamy. The meat was bloody amazing. Rich and flavorful, I've had Osso Bucco enough times to say that this one takes a spot on the high shelf with the best I've had. The carrots were a perfect accompaniment. It was just how it should be, no frills, nothing exceptionally fancy, and the meat got to take center stage. It was worth every penny and then some. I asked the server about it, and apparently it's not long for the regular menu, so get it while you can. No, really, get this dish if you see it on the menu and you're at Henry's, I promise you won't be disappointed. Besides that I had a cocktail with dinner. I ordered the Graduate and it was a great accompaniment for the meat. I don't remember exactly what was in it, but it was like some sort of fancy Mescal Negroni, if that makes any sense. I'll be coming back to Henry's again. There were some other drinks on the cocktail menu that I thought looked interesting, and after that Osso Bucco I think I'd try any special that they're serving. Who-da-thunk? This place is awesome for an understated top notch brunch. NOT a buffet mind you. The building is an old hotel right by the college, and Henry's is attached. Most hotel restaurants kinda suck. Not this one! The décor is dark wood flooring, with super high original ceiling, and overall the space is rather small, but not tight, with booths around the perimeter and tables filling in the main. Nice long bar along the back wall. Our server (Samantha J) was really nice and informative, as well as attentive throughout the meal. So, we ordered: Gnocchi alla Romana - OMG! (from the menu) - prepared with local mozzarella, speck, castelvetrano olives and fried egg. Not only was the dish beautiful served up, it was won-der-ful....The gnocchi was not your usual potato dumplings, but one large more flat dumpling, which was super light and just fantastic. Chilaquiles - with chicken tinga, queso fresco, smoked egg crema, and pickled red onions... I personally have become a bit let's say "bitchy" about chilaquiles. Well, put me in my place here... We went to Henry's since it's on Eater SF heat map recently. Across the street is Gypsy's which I love. Reservation was made three days ahead on OpenTable and I requested window seats. We got seated in a nice booth with great lighting. The waiter was kind. We ordered chicken wings, cucumber salad with olives, mussels, gnocchi with cherry tomato, and two drinks. ($75 before tip) The drink I had was a citrusy cocktail served with a single long block of ice. Chicken wings were super juicy. They're too salty for me but my friend loved the seasoning. Cucumber salad was fine. Mussels were fresh and the Tartine bread was phenomenal. The sauce somehow reminded of Thai cuisine just like the sauce for the chicken wings. Beware of the disappointingly small appetizer portions. Our party of four ordered one order of chips & dip and one order of waffle fries. Both were delicious, but I could have held all of the waffle fries or chips in just one hand. Before ordering, we asked the server what type of chips were on offer. He said they were tortilla chips. However, what we were served were potato chips, again in an abysmally small portion (think very small bowl). Otherwise, the service, food, and drinks were tasty. I think servers really should advise their customers in advance of the unusually small portions so they can order the an adequate amount. This place was awesome! We came here last weekend before going to a concert at the Greek and it was just what we needed before the concert. Apparently this used to be a sports bar inside of the hotel it's in and they've renovated. The ambience was pretty low key, dimly lit- never would have known that this used to be a sports bar. Service was okay, our drinks took a little longer to be delivered and we just had wine and beer, but I think that's because the bar was kinda busy. Highlights: gnocchi, burger and shishito peppers were all amazing. We will definitely come back to this spot next time we're in Berkeley for a concert!
