I can definitely see why Trippa is so popular and continues to receive so much praise. A Michelin Bid Gourmand,, it has that wonderful contemporary-trattoria feel where the food is rooted in tradition but executed with real thought and technique.
From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. They took the time to guide us through the menu, explain the dishes, and make thoughtful suggestions, which made the whole experience feel very personal and relaxed.
We started with fried tripe, which honestly surprised me. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was delicious. Even though it was fried, it wasn't greasy at all-- crispy, flavorful, and incredibly tasty. A great example of how Trippa takes an ingredient that might intimidate some people and makes it genuinely crave-worthy.
The seasonal salad was a beautiful contrast: fresh leaves with berries, light, bright and refreshing. We also had an eggplant dish, and as someone who isn't usually an eggplant fan, I have to admit this one won me over. It was flavorful, beautifully balanced, and showed that vegetables can be just as interesting as the more indulgent dishes.
But the tagliatelle pasta was my absolute favorite. Out of this world, melted in my mouth. It was the kind of dish where I immediately regretted having to share haha... I could have easily kept that entire plate to myself. Simple, incredibly well executed, and probably the dish I would order again without hesitation.
The desserts were good, but for me they didn't reach the same level as the savory dishes. The meal really shines in the food leading up to that point.
I really enjoyed the entire experience. There is something very appealing about Trippa's philosophy: no unnecessary frills, just excellent ingredients, thoughtful cooking, and a modern interpretation of Italian trattoria food.
I completely understand the hype now. Trippa deserves the praise-- and for me, it was one of those meals in Milan where the food, service, and atmosphere all came together beautifully. read more
