Well for starters the service from employees were sluggish and as if they did not want to work here...tired and unappreciated.(Which they probably are). The food was a little cold and unfavored. Plus they REALLY need to tidy up more. And ALWAYS my favorite..... NO TISSUE IN THE UNCLEAN BATHROOM.They should really have a warning in the window informing people about possible epilepsy due to the bright flickering light's from the fan motions. I came here on national hot dog day 2018, I can't eat this sort of food very often because my primary care physician has these crazy notions about processed meats and cholesterol ratios. I'm now hyper sensitive to the smells of what I call satisfying fats and the odors of the food here brought me back to my younger days of being able to eat anything. Summer of 1978 as Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" played constantly on WLS radio, I was an ambulance attendant at Capitol Ambulance, South Side of Chicago. Because of my partner's dining preferences I ate at hot dog stands from Gary to Waukegan to Aurora and all places in between. This place serves up an authentic Chicago dog and fries, no question about it. "Everything on it" means that weird unnatural green relish, mustard, tomato and dill pickle wedges, "sport" peppers (what sport exactly? water polo? lacrosse?) and NO KETCHUP. No need to explain. Service was a little friendlier than at a typical Chicago hot dog joint, and the trolley that gives this place its name is a sad old toy on a rusty antique track up on the ceiling. The place isn't that clean (which is authentic), my main complaint would be that the restrooms are not very clean with high traffic from children playing in the park across the street tromping in constantly to make sure the restrooms are open and shut a lot. The back three tables are right next to these restrooms. I'd say this is a five star place for Chicago hot dogs to go, and next time I go (there will be a next time) I'm going to get my order to go and eat in the park next door, away from any children. read more

Trolley dogs used to be my go to place for a great hot dog and friendly staff. Not sure what's changed, the attitudes were bad when I tried to order on the phone. Decided I'll go in so it won't be as confusing. I traveled from Waukegan just to get there food. They still had bad attitudes, they were not busy so not sure why. Waited for 30 min to get six hot dogs 4 fries and 2 pizza puffs. Got home home and missing to dogs, a chili cheese fry, stale buns burnt chili on the chili dog. It's a shame. I visited Kenosha for the first time this weekend and after the storms turned the 90 minute drive into a four hour trip through northern Illinois, we were ready for some lunch. We arrived at 11:30 on a Monday and the place was empty, most of downtown Kenosha was so it wasn't a knock against the restaurant. I ordered the hot dog with bacon ( I think it was called a Bacon Dog). They carry Vienna beef dogs and I have never had one I didn't like. The dog was good, the bacon didn't change it up too much and and condiments added to the taste. The fries were great and I had RC to drink. It isn't everyday you walk into a place and get RC. Most places have Coke, some carry Pepsi, but RC, you never see that. The decorating is simple and there are the usual Vienna beef hot dog posters on the wall ( I always look for the one where the giant hot dog is on Lake Michigan in Chicago and the tug boat is dragging out the giant tomato). Generally, all hot dog places are the same, some just do it better than others. Trolley Dogs is one of them, and will guarantee a repeat visit next time I am in Kenosha. read more

But their corn dogs are so plump that the inside of the hot dog doesn't get cooked fully, and none of the other great aspects of Trolley Dogs, separately or combined, compensate for a cold-centered corn dog. Took my boys here after a great day in downtown Kenosha and then down by the water. This place is a perfect spot for a slow, lazy day or a quick lunch. They have a fun train on a shelf that circles above the small diner, great views from every table right on the water, and the service was friendly. Between us boys we had a Chicago Dog, Italian Dog (kind of like a hot pocket with extra cheese), and a Corn Dog. All XL Vienna dogs came with fresh ingredients and piping hot (the Italian Dog was the temperature of the sun!). Yesterday was my first and last visit to trolley dogs. The girl behind the counter was unpleasant, at best, which really set the tone for everything to come. The soda was flat and syrupy, everything I touched was sticky, the other customers were loud and obnoxious, and the food was just gross. I did not have a hot dog though - I tried the tamale boat and the cheese fries. Nothing to write home about. The owner came in when I was getting ready to leave, and at least he seemed interested in providing good customer service. Disappointed. I ordered a falafel sandwich and out came a large italian beef bun with the four little falafel balls and hummus that was already soaked into the enormous bread. I went to the counter and said that I was confused because falafel sandwiches usually come with pita bread (they had pita bread since they sell Gyros sandwiches). The girl smiled at me and said, "that's just how we do it here." I told her that I wish they put it on the menu that they don't do it pita style, because that's how it is everywhere else and what you would expect out of a falafel style sandwich. I asked if she can give me a pita bun and I'll just put the innards into the other bread. She said "sure, but you'll have to buy the bread for about a dollar." What? A falafel sandwich is supposed to be served on pita in the first place. Oi. I even tipped them beforehand, which I regret now since they were only willing to make it right with more $$$.
