Being a Miami native, I was excited to find Caribbean cuisine so close to where I now reside. This place is truly a hidden pearl! I had the stewed chicken with peas and rice and I wasn't disappointed. The chicken was seasoned just right with a hint of spice, and it was so tender that it fell off of the bone. The peas and rice was cooked just right as well. Moist, not too soft, not sticky, definitely not hard, and well seasoned. The icing on the cake for me were the authentic Caribbean drinks! Being this place is near my house I really wanted to love it.. but I just "like" it. The staff are very friendly and the facility is clean, but the dishes I've tried left me disappointed (oxtails, jerk wings). The portions are the best I've had from any Jamaican food spot in Houston. I tried this place as it is near where I work in Katy. I only had 2 items which were Curry Chicken Pattie & Coco Bread. The patties were good, however my only issue with them is there was not enough meat inside at all... Flavorful, YES, but the inside of a Pattie is supposed to have a lot of meat. These were filled with the soup and potatoes that you cook the curry chicken in. For example, if you make a pot of stew, you scoop out the meat, shred it, then add some of the veggies and juice/broth inside the Pattie. These patties filling were mushy as there was barley any meat in them. The flavor however was great! the coco bread was the first ive had in America. it was fresh, soft, and fluffy with a decent density! I would rate the coco bread 5/5 but the patties a 3/5 only because there literally was no meat inside. The pattie seems to be a TAD slightly over baked, but most places make patties in large batches, then freeze them for weeks (as they stay good in the freezer uncooked). Overall I would rate this place a 3.5 stars because what I had was good, there was just not enough meat in the Pattie whatsoever. The patties at Caribbean Cuisine are much fresher and better baked, but I will definitely give this place another try. read more

Well I came here for the first time, on yelp it said that it was open. Walked up to the front door and the worker literally locked it and put up the closed sign in my face. In their defense, the posted hours on their doors did coincide with them closing when I walked up but 1) they need to get their yelp hours right and 2) I'd highly reconsider how they handled it for a first time customer smh I will not be returning for that simple fact. read more

Came here with Ashlyn expecting the same jerk chicken we got in the caribbean and we were not disappointed! Loved the jerk pork, chicken and cabbage slaw. Best Caribbean/Jamaican restaurant in Houston hands-down. Very authentic. If you go to the Sunday brunch you'll get some real traditional Jamaican dishes that you usually won't find in your run-of-the-mill J-can restaurants. Cornmeal porridge, tripe and beans, stew peas and rice (with pork tail of course) , run down, cow foot etc. Also the head cook is excellent at adding Jamaican flavor to non-traditional dishes such as fried chicken, meatballs, chop suey, BBQ chicken, etc. I highly recommend this place. I prefer going for the buffets, but be pre-warned, not everything offered on the menu is on the buffet. If you want something not on the buffet you would have to order it from the menu. Oxtails are not on the buffet, but they are pretty good. read more

Absolutely wonderful Jamaican food and I have been to quite a few in the greater Houston area. The curry chicken and jerk chicken were perfectly seasoned and the staff were so welcoming and nice. They do a buffet from 12 to 2 on Tuesday thru Thursday so lucky me to find this place. We are Jamaicans & our family gets dinner from them quite often. This is the real deal, the setting & the food is authentically Jamaican. They make the best fried dumplings! We love all their food choices but if we had to pick one, it would be their red peas soup. We never know what to do with ourselves when we go to their Sunday brunch as it offers everything including my husband's favorite breakfast item - cornmeal porridge! We catered for a small party recently where we were the only Jamaicans present & everyone asked for take home containers after eating their 'belly full'.
