I guess I've been on a Filipino food kick lately. DON'T. STOP. ME. NOW. A lot of Filipina nurses that I work with have been recommending that I try Tropical Hut. After a year of procrastinating, I finally stopped by today. I ordered the Special Combo with 2 entrées ($6.99) and a side of lumpia (5 for $2). Special combo means you get to choose noodles instead of plain rice. As for the entrées, you can look through the serving window and pick what you want. The woman behind the counter could tell I was intimidated, and very kindly offered to let me sample all the popular dishes. I thought this was very sweet of her. I ended up choosing two pork dishes and the palabok noodles. Portions were very large and I was only able to eat half before I started busting out of my work pants. The food is on the greasy side. If it wasn't for the incredible hospitality, I probably would give 3 stars. Filipino food is pretty rare in this area, so I'm glad Tropical Hut is near by! read more

I love Filipino food and it has been a while since I had. I started working nearby so when I heard about this place from my Filipino friends, I knew I had to try it. I got the pork menudo and lumpia. Lumpia is out of this world although I would have liked to see more meat inside (~1cm of just crust on the edges). It is very crunchy and tasted amazing though. Medudo was also great. They're in the same shopping center but moved to the other side to a much larger space with several tables for dining in. Every once in a while, I have a hankering for comforting food. I find Filipino food to be comforting and homey. I enjoy the food here and you can't beat the combo price for $9 which comes with either rice or noodles and two sides. I usually get 2 combo boxes because I can never just have 2 items. Today, I got the goat stew, beef stew, pork stew, and pork dinuguan. Pork dinuguan is made with blood as the base sauce. It may sound gross to some but I am telling you, it doesnt taste like blood. It tastes like a delicious rich sauce. You have to try it and decide for yourself. This is one of my favs. I also love the binagoogan dish but they didnt have that today. That dish is made of pork, eggplant and shrimp paste which gives it a deep umami flavor and slightly fishy. It is definitely an acquired taste and I grew up eating foods cooked in shrimp paste so I personally love it. Goes great with white rice or garlic rice. Im happy to see them expand to a larger space which means business is prob good. Good for them. They deserve all good things as their food and delish. read more

A good spot to hit up if your in the Old Bridge area. One of the few Filipino Restaurants that I dont mind visiting. I only get one thing here, and one thing only, thats the chicken teriyaki. Which is weird because chicken teriyaki isnt Filipino. Its Japanese. But im not complaining, the damn thing is amazing. Super saucy and its has that slight burnt edges that goes well with white rice. So, if you are ever in the area, and you stop by here, dont be a fool, grab a container of this stuff and see if you dont get addicted. read more

Tropical Hut is the go-to place for good Filipino food in our area and we have been regulars at this particular location (Mang Leo's has several locations under different names; this is just one of them) whether grabbing a few dishes for a quick and easy lunch/dinner to a few hundred dollars worth of catering for small gatherings. For over 15 years; that in itself is an attestation of how good the food is. However, we had a recent incident for a catering where we ordered fresh "lumpiang hubad" and one of our guests had a stomach ache after consumption and as we checked it ourselves, it turned out to be spoilt. So we called the place and let them know about the incident and that we just wanted to have a refund for that particular dish. Upon going back to the place (they couldn't give the refund over the phone even though we paid using credit card..go figure) we were given a hard time about the refund as if it was our fault. After a much unpleasant discussion, we got the refund anyway. It's never about the money; it's the principle of it. If we wanted to con them, we would have asked for a full refund or just did a charge back...we wanted a refund for that one dish simply because it went bad! Why is that so complicated? How the discussion went sour during the refund process left a real...bad taste (sorry) in our mouths that I cannot go back to this place again nor recommend them. No matter how good the food is, if you blame your customers when problems arise, it's a place I would not recommend. read more

Tight and crowded Tropical Hut has been around for quite awhile. Turo Turo selection is small but focused on the basics and above all fresh. Pancit is good and tasty with that Annato tinged sheen that you want to see in this classic dish.Crispy Pata is rather small but tasty,Lumpia is all veg with little to redeem it other than an excellent sauce. We never order the Adobo simply because I make it better. The Sisig could use a little more time on the flat top and bolder seasoning as I like more crunch and texture on my pig face as well as more vinegary bite. All in all a pretty solid joint that can get really crowded on weekends and selections sell out fast. The one thing that strikes me in all the visits here over the years is that I've never seen anyone smile....not once. read more

The food is part of the Leo's BBQ restaurants, unfortunately thats the only similarity, it suffers from same chain, different cook syndrome. No comparison to Leos in food quality or audience. Area is smaller only 4 tables,fewer choices, primarily a takeout and grocery store. Had the spinach laing which was savory w calderetta which was tasty 'w/o the oiliness you get at other places. Having ordered food here for over a decade, this place is really good. They have other products in the store that can be purchased. You can order small samples of any food in case if you don't want to order catering. Their catering is very good for parties or picnics which have a variety of foods to choose from. read more

The food is ok but they got some snotty filipino's working here. Worst customer service ever!! The staff are very unfriendly and the portions of food are very small. My family ordered food here one time for Christmas it was all sabaw (sauce) no meats and very watery. I really wanted to give this place a chance but the staff are so mean and stingy.
