**1-star -- Captain refused to help passengers in distress, management shady after** On our June 13th sailing, four passengers were put in a life-threatening situation due to the captain's (Captain John) negligence out of Fort Lauderdale. A 9-year-old girl drifted past the anchor buoy into a current. I went in to bring her back but got caught in the current myself. I called to Captain John, watching from the back of the boat, to pull us in by the rope -- he told me to swim myself in and did nothing. As I started taking on water, I called for help again. He just stared. Another passenger, Nikita Arnold, jumped in to help and struggled too when the child let go of the rope. A third passenger, Lia Castillo, went in as well. Captain John stood by the rope the entire time, ignoring repeated screams for help, even when I looked right at him and yelled. Once we made it back, he didn't help us onto the boat -- he folded up a floatie instead. I fell down the stairs from exhaustion while he watched, and I'm still bruised all over. I coughed up seawater for 45 minutes and he never checked on us or offered water. All three adults who went in after the child are minorities, and we believe that was a factor in his refusal to help. When we contacted management, they were extremely condescending, then said they were "on vacation" and never followed up -- no incident report, nothing. Super shady. We're pursuing a full refund and a formal investigation. read more

Tropical sailing is such a gem amongst all the many boat options in bayside. The Caribbean Spirit is an impressive, red catamaran sailboat with three, large beautiful sails. I actually see this boat come by our apartment and it stands out in the bay amongst all the other, many yachts - it's my favorite boat! My husband got me a trip last year as a surprise and we had such a wonderful time, we decided to take my in-laws visiting us this time for a sunset sail. The first time we tried to go, we unfortunately got rained out but communication was very good and we were able to easily rebook for another day. Luckily, on our second attempt we ended up with even better weather for a beautiful sunset. One of the great things about this ride is that is a chill and relaxing ride. There's so crazy dancing or dj like many other Miami boat options but it's still so fun - they play a great range of music and have a bar onboard. The crew is fantastic - knowledgeable, responsible and friendly. Our first ride, we had a great time chatting with Blue (who just had sadly had his last sail with the company that weekend, we learned!). Johnny and Marcos were both awesome on the team and friendly. Johnny was a local and had lots of great info willing to share and help answer any questions/give insight. Marcos was new from Puerto Rico with a history of sailing in his family and lots of excitement for the city. Great to chat with them both and helped make our experience even more fun! The other group on the boat with us were clearly regulars and knew the captain - they too loved the boating experience so much, that it became their go-to for bringing visitors. So very telling of what a consistently awesome experience this is. Please don't forget cash! Both the bar and tips are in cash and you'll definitely want to tip the fantastic crew. Absolutely recommend for both locals and tourists for a fun day out at sea. read more

We took a sunset champagne cruise on a catamaran out of Ft. Lauderdale with tropical sailing. It was a great way to spend a beautiful evening. Captain E and First mate Sam were great hosts. We were out for about two hours and under sails probably most of that time. Sam tended bar in addition to his first mate duties. We were looking to find something fun to do while we visited Miami and stumble across a Gropon for Tranquility Cruises. Booking was easy. We booked a catamaran cruise for 11am on a Wednesday. We paid for parking and made out way to the harbor. Finding the registration area was somewhat difficult because the GPS had us turned around. As long as you can find the Hard Rock Cafe, you're good. We checked in and loaded the catamaran and were on our way. Steph and Mario are the hostess with the mostest! They gave an awesome tour of buildings we passed and of the celebrities' homes on Star Island. They played good music and supplied us with complementary water and soda. The cash bar had a good little variety that kept us all happy. We had so much fun on Monument Island on the trampoline and the mat. There was also the option to paddleboard as well. We took the island adventure because it gives a little bit of everything. Our captain Nic and Rico were awesome and so chill. We went to star island and viewed the celebrity mansions and then we had plenty of time for water sports once we landed on Flagler Monument Island. We had a water mat to lay out, did kayaking, paddle boarding, and jumped on the trampoline. Can't ask for more than that! Just be mindful of other tourist traps while trying to go downstairs to check in. As we had someone trying to block the stairwell from us going down. Have fun! read more

My husband and I had an amazing time aboard the vessel for the sunset cruise. We couldn't have asked for a better captain. Stephanie was more than amazing. And, she is an award winning captain who I felt very safe with. Ernest was very knowledgeable about the surroundings. He kept us informed without being stuffy and boring. The Champagne Toast was a great touch. I would highly recommend taking advantage of this adventure. One thing that was less than great was the fact that it was kind of hard to find as there was nothing with the name of the company. We walked by a couple of times. I suggest getting there early to make sure you don't get left looking for it. As good of a time that we had, I couldn't take stars away for that. read more

This was a surprise until we got to Bayside. I was told we were going on a boat ride but not a FUN ride. The company has a few boats in the fleet. We were on the Tranquility. The Catamaran holds up to 40 people but they don't go over 20 when they book. They have a restroom on board. The adventure takes you thru Star Island and Fisher Island with a nice commentary on board. The whole trip is 3 hours long - so enjoy the rays ! Take sunscreen!!! Arrived at 10:20am - checked in (basically sign your name) and were told to come back 11:30. Now time to find a bar (I will post the bar on a separate review; check it out cause it is worth it). Get on the boat / Captain Terry and his mate Sebastian (awesome crew!!!) Initially we where going near Monument Island, but Miami Police was investigating a missing person so we moved on. Found another little place, drop anchor, water mat, trampoline, 2 kayaks. 2 paddle boards. I got yelled so (wear a life jacket on the kayak or paddle board "MUST"). Then just have a amazing time!! Trust me YOU will! I didn't forget the liquor; they have 4 wines $4 each, 3 beers $3 each - super cheap!!!!! Snacks - bring your own!!! We learned it the starving way. A good boating experience, not a real snorkeling experience. This is a review for the Sailing and Snorkeling expedition. With the crew of Captain Terry, Mason, Ernest Edgar on 8/16. The customer service from booking was extremely helpful. Sarah was great at answering all our questions and even arranged the perfect time and date for our excursion. The boat itself is spacious clean and steady. The crew is capable and knowledgeable, yet it felt like this was just a job for them and not as enthusiastic as trips I've been on in the past where they genuinely enjoy the experience and hosting people on the boat. However, they did decide not to go out to the listed location (Jose Cuervo Artificial Reef) we originally had read when booking. Instead, the first two hours were spent circling around the same bay and same views and it felt a little like they were going through the motions to kill time before they let us jump into the water. We docked in front of some expensive houses and they let us off and handed us snorkeling goggles. There was no reef no fish and you couldn't see more than 2 ft in front of you due to visibility issues and it was basically just swimming and playing with some floaties. A saw an excited family who brought with them all this nice snorkeling equipment only to have to tell their kids they didn't need it. Then we returned to dock shortly after. The issue I take is that they didn't give us an option for a refund once they knew they weren't going to the reef, they just said we will play it by ear. I even heard the crew talking about how they weren't on the same page about what activity people had booked. Personally, when I am in charge of planning a group vacation it's disappointing to block out a significant part of your day for a Snorkeling adventure that turns out to be just a boat and swim. My honest opinion is if you enjoy being on a boat, it's a great time. But if you are looking to book the snorkeling adventure be careful of the bait and switch tactic. A group of my best girlfriends and I did the Sunset Cruise out of Miami for my birthday and it was by far one of the most memorable experiences for the trip. Captain Terry, Ernest, and Edgar were welcoming, informative, and were determined to show us a great time! The location is easy to find, especially with the confirmation and follow up emails. The boat is very big and steady, and you can bring your own snacks on board! We ended up barefoot, hanging over the nets, listening to old school R&B while drinking champagne. I'm not sure life gets much better than that! Ernest specifically was a delight! He was engaging but not intrusive. He set us up for some awesome photos (the best ones of the trip!) and I couldn't have been more thankful for a warm welcome to Miami by this crew. They truly care about what they do and are passionate about showing hospitality to every guest that comes on board, and it shows! I looked at many other companies and picked this company because the reviews kept talking about the crew - and I was not disappointed!! One tip: Bring cash to tip the crew. A terrible experience... My 2 friends and I were really excited and looking forward to a sunset cruise with Tropical Sailing, however, we were extremely regretful after this experience. The reservation confirmation says covid protocol procedures would be strictly enforced and we found that was 100% not true. While starting a tab at the bar, the captain asked my friend what her name was, how do you spell it, and where was she from. She responded, "Alisha, I'm from Atlanta." He responded, "that's a very Atlanta way to spell your name." (Alisha is a caucasian woman, while the rest of us are POC) Infer what one may, this remark set the tone in how they treat their guests. While we respectfully distanced during the whole excursion, the captain later encouraged a group of 20-25 to move to where we were seated to get a group photo. My friend loudly protested how uncomfortable she was with 20+ unmasked people suddenly was on top of her, with little regard of personal space. The captain unsuccessfully asked the group to "move over 2 feet" to which no one did. After the excursion, I waited till almost all guests had left the boat to privately speak to the captain about the experience. His inability and reluctance to see another perspective was clear. Even after I tried repeatedly to pay for the 2 glasses of wine we ordered, to which he said "was on the house, but you can tip me cash." Making cash tips superseded the safety and experience of certain guests. To further sour the experience, I tried corresponding with the company's manager, Captain Adam Bailey, to come to a resolution and have a conversation. He had the same dismissive and uninterested attitude as his employees. After 2 weeks of emails, I informed him that I would dispute the charges with my credit card company (American Express has excellent customer service) and informed him I would post my review where he maturely responded, "I am actually writing your report now, but go ahead, do your worst. I do not respond well to threats." I have traveled around the world and chartered many boat excursions, from Thailand, Mexico, Barbados, and Central California....never have I had an experience as terrible as this outing with Tropical Sailing. Can't blame it on a language barrier, the message was clear that only certain clientele mattered. read more

Excellent time on this cruise through South Beach. We were taken to Flagler Monument Island where we were allowed to swim, bounce on the trampoline, paddle board, or just lounge around on a beautiful summer day, enjoying the view of the beautiful city of Miami. My sister found out about this tour via Groupon, and the rest was history. This tour is a must! Definitely worth the price, and the tour guides were friendly and fun. Be sure to find out where the dock is for departure long before you get to Bayside. We were in a bit of a crunch trying to find the boat. Once we got there we realized that it wasn't hard to find at all: it leaves from the dock right behind the hard Rock Cafe! read more

Our group of 9 went on their 4 hour splash and sail package. After boating through the channel, we found a calm spot and swam in the ocean. Joe & Mario were so sweet! My fiancé and I had a blast. They have a tour of Star Island and we docked at monument island. Hung out, did some paddle boarding, jumped and the water trampoline and ultimately had a blast. The price was great and also they have beer and wine on board for $3 a piece. So Much Fun! In Miami for my 30th Birthday & though this would be so fun to add our day & Boy, was I right! When you get to the pier, you have to check in & wait until a certain time for everyone to get on! That was no problem for me because I was feeling a little nauseous from the car ride there so this gave me some time to drink ginger ale. I was feeling much better in those 15 minutes so I was excited when the boat pulled up and we were all loading it! There was wine, beer & water for purchase and soda for free for everyone on board. There was a bathroom and enough seating areas for everyone as we took the most beautiful boat ride to this remote island. Once we got there (about 30 minutes later), we were all able to get off the boat and do all of these water activities (trampoline, kayaking, and other sports). It was AMAZING! I completely stepped out of my comfort zone and explored all there was during the hours we were there. Everyone on the boat was meeting and bonding with each other, encouraging each other to be adventurous. After all, that's what life is about! After awhile, everyone got pretty tired and made their way back to the boat. While returning to Downtown Miami, We were giving a little tour of Star Island & everyone pretty much tipped the captain and host upon departing (because they were AMAZING!). My husband booked the Tranquility for my birthday with EB. My family and I had a great time. The captain was very professional and protective making us feel very safe. All I had to do was call this place asking some questions about their services and was instantly turned off. SO extremely rude when you call them and act as if your questions are bothering them. They do not answer the phone with "hello" or "goodbye" they just hang up on you. They need to understand that people are on vacation and obviously have questions about this sort of service to ensure they have a good time. Unreal. read more

So I was in Miami for a one day trip and convinced my friends to bail on work and hang out. We found a Groupon for this and thought it would be fun to try. We bought four and went online to book and there were only 2 seats left for the 11am trip. I called and begged for them to try to get us on the same trip (I couldn't take the later trip cuz I had to fly home at 7pm) and the guy on the phone was extremely helpful! He was nice and opened up two more spaces for us so that we can all go on the same trip . Everything went great on the boat. Mario and the captain were super fun and nice. We enjoyed the water activities, the music was great, we had so much fun. I am recommending this to all my friends in Miami and we are already making plans to go back. Had a great time with Aaron and Dave. Great music on the way over and everyone easily got into the party mood. Beautiful sunny weather, perfect for sailing. Once we got to monument island, everyone went off to explore the island and enjoy the complimentary water sports. First, we went to see the monument and then swam beach to the boat. We took a kayak with our picnic lunch to the beach and enjoyed it under some trees. Spent some time relaxing on the boat and in the water until it was time to leave. The music was just as good on the way back and we went home in a good mood. I recommend you try it and plan to do it again soon. read more
