Yeah, it's official, Burtonsville location WORST Tropical Smoothie I've been to. I had a water bottle which I left at home by mistake, but just as well as this ended up being a test as I already had a negative experience here in December 2023. DENIED WATER: First thing I asked before ordering our food and smoothie was for 2 courtesy water cups. I saw she was charging $1.35 or $2.70 for two. I said free water cups with our food we will order. She was snotty and said we don't give that here. I told her straight up we are walking out & losing our business. My girlfriend said any other Trop Smoothie will give the water with your food, and I agreed the Columbia location did & the cashier was nice. It's inhumane of Burtonsville. But we ended up trying Isaac's across the street, which will get a 5-star review eventually. read more

I got an $11 smoothie and wanted to sit down at about 8:15 PM at one of their locations. The smoothie tasted very good. The high schoolers that work there (invariably) asked me to leave because they wanted to close at 8:30 PM instead of their advertised 9:00 PM closing time. I thought it was rude and wrong. They also have very awkward "why are you a human being standing there talking; this is awkward and I don't know what people are or what they want" childish attitude that was very abrasive. My experience at this smoothie cafe was great! My food was fresh and made fast. I also noticed how clean the restaurant is, especially the bathroom, and I appreciate it. I was excited to find out that Tropical Smoothie Cafe was still operating during COVID19 but somewhat disappointed in my experience. I was thrilled when I discovered that this store location wasn't too far from my house but I felt as if some of their employees were a bit cold to their customers. I had called the store a day before to check their operating hours and instead was given somewhat of an attitude for even calling. I obviously wanted to check before making a trip out of it but was greeted in an unwelcome manner over the phone. It's currently curb-side pickup only, but the gentleman who approached my car was super friendly and patient (quite the contrary experience over the phone). Sunday morning, I had placed an order via the app to pick up 3 smoothies and a chicken salad bowl. I would highly recommend downloading the app for faster service and of course reward points towards future purchases. Smoothies alone are about $5 but for a few dollars more you can make each order into a meal. The Berry Immune Blast was my favorite and I had added an entergizer and fat burner supplementation for an extra $1 each. The Sunshine immune smoothie tastes very strong on the mango side so if you like fruitier/sweeter tasting smoothies I would recommend that as well. I didn't try the Super green Immune Smoothie but from what I heard that was also a favorite and popular choice. What I really enjoy is how reasonably price their smoothies are compared to other chains and I like how you can customize add-in's, supplements and sugar levels. As for their chicken salad bowl, I was very disappointed. The chicken and salad were so bland, even with dressing. I don't think I would order food from here again personally, but they do an amazing job on smoothies. read more

Went to meet a friend for a sandwich and smoothies. I was pleasantly surprised. The smooches were absolutely delicious!! All natural no processed ingredients, all natural and fresh fruit and vegetables. I had the Island Green smoothie with fresh banana, mango, pineapple, kale and spinach. It was amazing! The sandwiches were made to order with fresh ingredients and were quite tasty. I had the chipotle chicken wrap without the bacon...yum! I met the owner who was very polite. She welcomed me with a friendly smile and we chatted about the restaurant and their happy hour. Can you believe they have a happy hour. Every Monday - Friday morning, I believe from 7-8 smoothies are discounted. That takes care of breakfast. I love the idea of drinking a healthy very filling smoothie for breakfast. In fact, I enjoyed the smoothie so much, I purchased 2 additional ones for my daughter and husband. They both like peanut butter. I got a peanut butter cup for my daughter. Peanut butter, chocolate and banana. My husband's was a Peanut Surprise, peanut butter, banana, non-fat yogurt and a scoop of protein. They both thoroughly enjoyed their smoothies and we all are looking forward to happy hour and family lunches at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. You won't be disappointed. By the way, the staff was awesome. He then watched what looked like 3-4 employees (?)walk out the door at 8:25 pm with multiple smoothies each. I was so excited to see a Tropical Smoothie open near my job and couldn't wait for the grand opening. I came in with high hopes but sadly the mark was missed. I'll start by saying that I was happy to see such a diverse staff. I was rooting for them, I really was! Here's my experience: (1) I wasn't properly greeted upon entering (2) My wrap took forever to come out (3) when I tried to check in, I was handled very rudely by one staff person (4) My slaw was missing and I had to ask for it then I had to ask for a fork. I will say that I think these things can be worked on and fixed. It is clear that they are understaffed and overwhelmed. I really hope that they hire more people to support their staff and I hope they get better with customer service and getting food out in a timely manner. read more

Yup, tried them twice. The staff seems nice, but they are very short handed. They seem to be struggling to keep up and are not efficient/trained well. For instance the smoothie makers have to pause for each smoothie and look up the ingredients, line by line. First time, I waited 40 minutes for 2 smoothies. Second time, I placed an order online (again for just smoothies). I arrived ten minutes AFTER the app said it would be ready, waited 30 minutes and nothing. I finally told them to cancel it. Worse, when I got there and asked if it was ready, the guy making smoothies didn't even have it. He found my order and placed it in the back of the line, essentially behind all of the people that had just come in (even though my order had been placed at that point 30 minutes prior). Now I am struggling to get a refund through the app, which is proving frustrating. It's been a bad experience all around. read more

I usually don't leave reviews but I had to point out that the customer service wasn't all that great. When I came in I spoke and the fellow working the smoothies didn't even speak back, no how can i help you, no thank you, no have a great day. The lady working with him doing the food station seemed pretty nice. The guy acted like he just didn't want to be there slamming around dishes and listening to music through his airpods. I am a manager in Retail/food service and I understand that everyone has their days but that doesn't excuse not extending some sort of customer service when someone enters your establishment. I could also tell the morale of this location is a little off. I would recommend some more training for the employees, perhaps on group dynamics and organizational behavior. read more

I'm very excited that there's finally a TSC near my home, instead of having to drive for 25 minutes up to Columbia for a location! I came here two days ago at 5pm and I actually had a pleasant experience! The staff were nice and I was greeted well... the person who made my smoothie order actually went in front of the working area to give me my drink (which turned out wonderful, fyi)! I understand that they're new and a lot of the staff still have a lot to learn, but I trust that this place will improve and have much much better results in the future. This is my second and only time dealing with this store, I had a problem before talked with the manager and he apologize. I decided to do this again, but this time I ordered some food and Items were missing again. I called the store and talk with a male and he sounded like the manager. He apologize after check my order information while I was on the telephone. After I said I will come up there to get the rest of my order. I asked him to make sure it's ready when I get there. When I arrived nothing was waiting for me, I needed to tell the female again what happened, she went to give me again part of the order that I was missing and I explained in detail again to received my complete order. First and foremost I would like to say that I love tropical smoothie and I'm even more in love with the fact that it's across the street from my house now. Also I'm friends with the owners of this location and show love as much as I can when I want a quick energy boost for the day. But my last visit there was the last straw. I've been going to this location for a while now since they opened it up. Each time I go I get the same smoothie every single time, a beach bum with white chocolate. For those who don't know it's just a strawberry banana smoothie with white chocolate powder. In my opinion a pretty simple smoothie to make. My pet peeve is when I order it, drive all the way home or almost home, and take a sip of it just for it to be watered down or too Icy. Each time I go to this location it's always hit or miss. I feel like there's only one more maybe 2 employees who make a good beach bum everyone else does it wrong every time. It's gotten to the point where I have to try my smoothie in the store first before leaving. If it's not up to par I'll send it back and make them remake it and I hate to be that guy that holds everything up because of that. I love going to the one in laurel because I never have this issue. the beach bums are perfect each time and I'm confident enough to wait til I get to my destination to try my smoothie. I just wish that the burtonsville location was like that. First 2 weeks of this location opening everything was perfect food came out fast and tasted great. The staff changed all of sudden and quality severely diminished. My last experience was the worst and is the reason I won't be going back. Ordered the chipotle chicken wrap and picked it up. Felt sick right after eating Eventually threw it all up. I think the chicken wasn't cooked properly the chipotle sauce was water, the smoothie tasted like they used old fruit. And the service was awful not sure if this guy should be working there. Was really excited to see a TSC pop up in Burtonsville and on a morning where I had a little extra time decided to give it a try. I place my order through the app and arrived a few minutes after it was due to be ready. Both employees looked at me until I greeted them. I told them I was picking up an order...they hadn't even started. They asked me what time I placed it and when it was supposed to be ready. They claimed they didn't get the order, which is fine, I had a few minute to spare. I was just irritated that not once did anyone apologize or at the very least SMILE. I don't mind a mistake, or an issue with technology- it happens! But the employees attitudes sucked and that's what prompted this review. Just left tropical smoothie at 1:30 PM on a Thursday afternoon. This was without a doubt the worst experience at a tropical smoothie in my 30 years of life. I grew up going to these restaurants in a couple different states, and unfortunately this new one that popped up in Burtonsville right near my house is terribly unclean. The kid working behind the register was a) by himself and b) extremely unhygienic. We're knee deep in this Coronavirus pandemic and he is taking his mask on and off, playing with it while I'm giving him my order. Not wearing gloves. Not washing his hands. Touching cash and people's credit cards and then going right to ingredients and making smoothies. Scratching his head and wiping hands off on his pants. Sticking his bare fingers INSIDE of cups before he pours the smoothie in. If there WAS A manager on duty, they deserve to be fired lightyears before the kid working up front who clearly needed at the very least one to two extra people to help him. Again, I was so excited to try this new location that is five minutes from my house. Unfortunately, I don't think that I'll be risking my life or my family's life on the prowess of an unsupervised teenager who isn't taking the proper precautions - seemingly running the restaurant. read more

I went here today to pick up two smoothies to-go and was shocked to notice that the two employees taking orders and making smoothies were not wearing masks. I really enjoy TSC usually, but I was disappointed with the quality of the smoothies that I purchased at this location. I ordered a sunrise sunset smoothie that tasted only of orange without and mango, and a blueberry bliss smoothie that was under filled by 1.5 inches, and tasted like water. I do not think I will be returning to this location, and think that the drive to college park or Columbia is worth the investment. read more
