I ordered the shrimp tacos which may be the best shrimp taco I've ever had. My mom got the beans and cheese pupusa. I'd never had one before but they were delicious. I went on a Friday night with a couple of friends and we had a great time. They had karaoke that night as well as a live DJ which made for a lively atmosphere. The service was really slow, expect to wait a while but the food makes up for it. The, complementary chips and salsa had a great spicy flavor to them, their beer is decently affordable you get a bucket of six for $35. After 30 minutes, my soup arrived, and it was huge. The mariscada (seafood soup) had crab or shrimp, mussels, one clam and one whole lobster. Everything about it was fresh and tasted amazing. So I have this friend who told me that I HAVE to try out Spencerville Deli because their food was sooo good. It turns out that this person must not be my friend. Not much went right on my lunchtime visit. To start, the place was cold enough to store meat without refrigeration but I kept my coat on so it was fine. I got the menu and ordered water and my standard test food for any tex/mex location, medium rare Carne Asade. Things went downhill from there. -- The silverware was delivered in an enigmatically taped shut paper bag. -- The water that I ordered turned into a bottle of Deer Park ($2). -- When the steak showed up it was...uhm...something. -- At least one third of it was tough fat and gristle (see pic). -- To call its temperature well done would be more accurate than medium-well which is brutal since I ordered medium-rare. -- If I was to describe the flavor of the carne asada I would go with "salty." -- The salad on the plate was the best part of the whole meal, TBH. -- The rice was meh. So the bill shows up and stunningly there's a $5 "service charge" on the bill. No explanation or warning about that. Didn't feel like cooking tonight. Took my older son to The Spencerville Deli in Burtonsville, MD. Vintage and Historic on the outside, Homey and Fun on the inside. Greeted with a big smile and "Welcome!" from Maria-Angelina. Instantly felt at home. She gave really good suggestions that were spot on. Mirna, the owner, came out to say hello. Such a great vibe! The NY strip steak and pupusas worth the money but don't order the Gaby's special that is not worth the money. They barely had enough steak with 2 small thin chicken breast snd 6 shrimps on a bed of lettuce with 4 tostones and they ran out of yucca. Also be careful on ordering drinks. If you order a drink on the rocks they charge you for a shot and one shot is not enough like ordering a drink on the rocks. In order to get the amount you should for a drink on the rocks they want to charge you a double shot which is $20 and that is being over charge for a drink on the rocks. Most places on the area charge $12-$14 for a drink on the rock so you are being over charged for this drink. Our friends had a tab that was $400 and another friend $275 which included an order of food but mainly drinks. They do have a good $5 regular margarita special so if you want to have a good time and not have a huge bar tab drink the margaritas special and their tamales are tasty for the price. They also charge you per soda and most places you get unlimited fountain drinks and $2 for bottled water. Lastly, we came their last week and buckets of beer were $30 like on the menu but this week they charged us $35. The buckets of beer on the menu is $30 but they are charging you $35 on your bill. I recommend you change your prices reflect the right pricing or otherwise you need to give the consumer the prices on your menu. They have beer towers which is a good price but they need to have more choices of beer on tap. Being it's a Mexican/Salvadorian restaurant they should have some domestic beers on tap and Modelo or Corona but they do not. We came here because our good friends recommended but unfortunately you won't be getting our business anymore and I don't recommend this place. read more

This is a hidden gem located on the side on Rt 198. It's a little hole in the wall where place is clean, friendly servers and great fresh home cooked Latino-American food. My wife had The Chicken Soft Tacos which are always fresh and good. I had 1 Chorizo Soft Taco and 1 Beef Soft Taco, the chorizo was awesome, the beef was strips of beef but the meet was I little tough, both served with a sauce on the side which was scrumptious. This is easily one of my favorites in Spencerville Maryland. The food is fresh and delicious. They have the best steak and cheese and fries in Maryland oh my goodness my daughter favorite place. You may be tempted to drive by this place. Don't! This place has been under new ownership for a year. Much of the old menu remains. The new owners added a number of Latin dishes. Featuring fresh quac and a variety of homemade salas. The best tasting dishes we had were the beef tacos, a few pieces were not complely tender, but you get tons of really tasty beef in each taco. You should try it. The other dish was the chicken taquito appetizer. Great flavor. Also had the chicken quesadilla which was very good. Took half of it home. I would leave a 1 star review but I feel like they are not taken seriously, like writing in all caps, I would leave 0 stars if I actually could. I ordered the Carne Asada, chicken quesadilla and a small side of guacamole to go. As you can see in my pic, the Carne Asada was a thin strip of some mystery steak with a giant piece of fat, cooked to a shoe leather consistency. The small guacamole for $2.99 lived up to it's small description and had a watery consistency as a bonus. The chicken quesadillas was not worth $10 considering the amount of meat it came with and I strongly suspect they reheated someone's leftovers as it came with three small triangle pieces and one strip cut. Normal quesadillas would be 2 triangle and 2 strips when cut from a semi circle. As for the flavor of the food, it was bland. I was really looking forward to this place but was so disappointed I felt compelled to write my first review in years because it should be illegal for a restaurant to charge such high prices for such low quality, barely edible food. read more

The place is very misleading. It looks old and run down but it is actually quite nice inside and the smells of delicious food tickle your taste buds. That being said $2 for a soda is quite steep. The staff was pleasant as we studied the menu for our carry out order. Tamales de Pollo were soft with good flavor. Chorizo Tacos were quite nice with fresh radishes and mild spice and included small containers of salsa verde and red hot sauce. We enjoyed the Pupusa Revuelta with the Curtidi and salsa roja. I grew up walking distance from this place. It is very old and I have seen it pass from owner to owner throughout the years. As I child, my father would occasionally buy beer there and I always thought it was kind of creepy. Having said that, the new owners have completely turned my perception around. The new owners are warm and hospitable people. The food is top notch. I especially recommend the beef tacos and pupusas. The interior has been completely re-done and has a bright and happy vibe. The food was great too - I had Fajitas, some of the best I've ever had. The kids all loved their food as well.
