Luckily, as I was driving along University Dr., I spotted a Tropical Smoothie Cafe in the Lakeside Town Shop. It was quiet inside as a male and female employee were preparing and packing online orders. When the female employee was available, she took my order for a Beach Bum smoothie. The smoothie was very fruity and absolutely delicious! It was made with fresh strawberries, banana, and my choice of white chocolate. I usually take a picture of the smoothie for my review, but I was enjoying it too much. Before leaving, I saw an advertisement for the new Toasted Snack Rolls featuring Hawaiian Heat, Bacon Chipotle Chicken, and Turkey Bacon Honey Dijon. Had a great experience at Tropical Smoothie Cafe on Free Smoothie Day! I wore my flip-flops and was able to get a free Mango Monsoon Smoothie. The smoothie was refreshing, flavorful, and perfect for a hot day. The staff was friendly, and the promotion was organized well despite the crowd. If you love smoothies then this is your place to visit! The service from the employees depends on how busy they are really. If they are busy don't expect much interaction, my visit was during a busy time so when I asked the employee serving me how they were doing and get no response back it's a little awkward. To order I had the following: Blueberry Bliss: consists of blueberries, strawberries and bananas. I did substitute the bananas for Mangoes. It is not overly sweet, I always say I will try a new smoothie and yet end up ordering this bad boy. Detox Island Green: consists of spinach, kale, mango, pineapple, banana and ginger. Was for my husband but did taste it. It tastes like greens, a hint of sweetness and the ginger kicked in at the end. In their smoothies they do use a turbinado sugar in a liquid form so in case you do not want sugar in your drink you can opt out of it. I've passed by this area numerous times and just assumed it was just smoothies. I was mistaken lol I got their Cali breakfast flatbread (you have the option of getting it with either chicken or sausage. I got the chicken.) with their detox Island green smoothie. The flatbread had more chicken than expected but less avocado -- it's just a thin spread rather than chunky kind or sliced. It seemed too messy to get it to go. I might try something else next time, but this was still a good combination of flavors. I had to save half of it to eat later (packed it in my cooler with ice pack.) I didn't want to get too full before my gym work out. I'll be enjoying the rest of my smoothie once I'm done! The staff was amicable and since it was an early morning, it was a quieter environment. I don't recall hearing music playing but then again I'm hard of hearing! They also have rewards for every dollar you spend -- just need to download their app and if you didn't use the app, you can scan the barcode on their receipt and still get points. I enjoy coming here. I usually get a strawberry banana smoothie. It is always so fresh. I have tried other smoothies but this one is my favorite. Yesterday we got bowls. These are pretty new to Tropical Smoothie. My acai bowl was really fresh and delicious. I like the acai base. It was served very cold. The bananas, blueberries and strawberries are so tasty and taste how fruit should taste. I enjoyed the coconut and there is just a hint of honey in there. A very healthy lunch. This is a busy location. I ordered these about 15 minutes before arriving and the avocado bowl was still not ready. I advise ordering at least 20 minutes before arriving. read more

Very disappointed in my service here tonight. I ordered on the mobile app and my order was supposed to be ready by 8:35pm. I completely understand sometimes the time may delay a bit, but the fact that the young lady working the counter was chatting with her friend for over 30 minutes (the time I was there) pulling out their phones and gossiping is unacceptable. (African American girl with a bun, young). The other young man preparing the food was obviously on it and was working hard to try to get the food orders out. When I walked in she was chatting and I saw other people waiting. I patiently waited until she looked at me and I got her attention and I told her my name and she gave me my smoothie and then she goes. "Oh you food isn't ready yet" and I go "Okay no problem" thinking it was being prepared and sat down and saw the young man making food and time goes by and I'm like OK this isn't how long a mobile order usually takes, since I've ordered with them a few times before ( Usually ready when I get there by the way with friendly smiles and attentive workers). More people are coming in and the girl is still talking with her friend who is almost behind the counter and then she's talking so loud and on her phone and I finally got up and kindly asked "hello is my food ready yet?" and she goes "oh is this it" and I said to her "it would've been nice for you to tell me it was ready since I was waiting here for a little while" and she goes "Oh I didn't see it". I wanted to be like well maybe if you were being attentive to your job and not talking with your friend but I left. My food should've been ready about 20 minutes ago. Very unprofessional, and it was almost embarrassing on her part to see all of these customers waiting and she's just talking up a storm with her friend who shouldn't even be that close to the counter and I will not be returning after this experience. I was there last night at 9:30 PM. They're signed out there even on the website saying until 10 PM. Employee that was working there at that night refuses to serve me and started giving me a poor explanation why that she was unable to serve me and saying that the kitchen was closed and I asked why and she only replied. I have been to this location several times and finally had to review it because this visit was the best. I really enjoy the mojito smoothie but they only have that in the summer time, even though it is always summer in SoFL! I was craving a smoothie after taking a yoga class and basically dying lol. I am diabetic so when I have an intense workout, I make sure to have something soon after to make sure I do not go low. I decided on this place because I am familiar with their menu and it is walking distance from my home, even though I was not about to walk any far distances after that yoga class lol. Hubby met me there and we both ordered the same smoothie. Well sort of lol. I ordered the Paradise Point and added lime, while hubby had the same without lime. It always takes me 5+ minutes to figure out what I want here because I try not to make things complicated but many places do not have my perfect dream combination of ingredients so I'm always creating my own recipes (most restaurants lol). Our cashier was very friendly and helpful. She explained to us if we completed a survey from our receipt, we would receive a code and next time get a smoothie for $1.99 with a purchase. She actually sold me on it because I do not come here often lol. The store was rather busy so we had to wait a good 5-10 minutes for our smoothies. We decided to sit inside and drink them. The store was not too messy or loud. It was actually relaxing. I have enjoyed Tropical Smoothie several times and they are usually the first place I think of when wanting a smoothie. Four stars for one reason and one reason only...they have my favorite smoothie of all time, the Chia Banana Boost! Roasted banana, chia seeds, coconut milk, almonds, oats, dates, cinnamon and your choice of either peanut butter or strawberry. I always get peanut butter. Ugh soooo good. This location isn't exactly the cleanest. More than once I have seen employees with really long hair not wear a hairnet or at least even tie their hair back. Ordered the Island Green with Wheh protein to add a little something after my workout. Not a typical green smoothie that tastes healthy. It has spinach, kale, mango, pineapple, and banana! I actually didn't know it had banana in it until I wrote this review, but it does not have that overpowering banana taste at all. A delicious, refreshing, "healthy" smoothie to start off the day! My favorite place to go on Sundays. I always order the Mango Magic smoothie. I like how big the cups are and how they make it so quick. The mango magic smoothie is delicious and fresh. I love the atmosphere of this cafe and how they make it seem tropical in a sense hence the name. Smoothies range from $6-8 depending on what you get. It's a bit pricey but the overall drink is worth it and consistent. They also have a breakfast happy hour smoothie drink from 7am-9am weekly. I used to like coming here but lately the service and food has been horrible. Didn't go back about two weeks ago when they messed up our food we just dealt with it. But we go again today the quesadilla is burnt stuck to the box barley any chicken we live far I got to notice when we got to West pines since I was driving. I called to get a refund just for my quesadilla and offered to send them a picture but they didn't want to help at all at first issue with the receipt advised receipt on the counter we verified the last 4 of the card and we confirmed the name but they still insisted for me to drive all the way back to Stirling to bring them back the Garbage quesadilla they have made. Never going back. Update went back and I was recording for my insurance and safety so the situation would not be a one sided story and was recording more the conversation my receipt than anyone's face. They didn't even look or ask for the food they requested for me to bring back. Came here after a long run. Super hot day... and it was packed. Guess everyone felt the same way I did about the heat. I got the island green smoothie which is one of the more expensive smoothies. They really blend in the kale and spinach well so you don't taste it and you get the greens. But it tasted sour... and unhealthy which is odd, because I got this before... Another smoothie I like is the muscle blaster. Strawberry banana with a choice of protein. They blend the protein in well and it just tastes very nutritious. However, I think they should have two sizes. The one they have now is a lot for the average person.... All in all, smoothies took awhile to come out... and the person called me Harry. It's Henry. Stopped in the other day for a quick smoothie. There were three other people in the restaurant- a mom and her son, and one other guy waiting for his food. While I was ordering my smoothie, the mom and son got their food and the other guy got his food shortly after. Then a couple teenagers came in. They must have been friends with the manager because she stood and talked to them about how one kid applied to work there and didn't get the job. So they just shot the shit. And I waited. And waited. We love Tropical Smoothie. We are loyal customers and whenever we come to the shopping center we ALWAYS stop and get a smoothie. We have had the best customer service as well, sometimes the smoothie isn't quite right and they ALWAYS make it again and don't make you feel like you are being a Karen! They are delish and so refreshing especially in the hot FLORIDA HEAT! We love love love the Chicken Caprese Sandwich it was just incredible! I'm super picky and so is my daughter. It was my first time coming to this place. I must say the food and the smoothie were very good. I arrived around 12:30pm. The place was busy but not crowded. I ordered a smoothie (strawberry, banana and pineapple) and a flat bread (chicken, bacon, avocado, cheese, lettuce and tomato). Both things were around $11 dollars (not bad for the size and taste). My main complain is really that the staff was not so pleasant. Pretty much all of them looked very tired and not so happy to be there. Even when they approach you they dis not smile. I want to think that it was because they were tired. Still, I would like to see more friendly faces and to please use gloves when putting the fruit in the blender.
