We tried them plenty of times in the past when my family and I still lived in NJ. The times we went here, the smoothies neither the food were not good. The smoothies barely had any flavor in them no matter what we ordered. And the food offered always tasted a bit off. I think the worst part of the smoothies overall was that they had little to no flavor. Or they tasted a bit more like plastic probably because of the straws and they'd also be a bit too thick which made it a bit harder to taste anything. The service was nothing super special as they were overall always nice and friendly. And the ambiance does have good tropical like decorations to help give it the tropical feel. But again, the lack of flavor in the smoothies is the biggest downfall of this establishment. Even though I do not live in NJ anymore, if I were to move back or be near here again, I still wouldn't waste the time going here again. 1/5 stars from my past experiences from the past when I was younger. read more

I went into Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Hamilton, NJ, this morning at 8:35. I was the only customer and when I walked in the 3 employees looked at me like I had inconvenienced them. It took about 5 minutes before anyone came to the counter. I was greeted not with a hello welcome to Tropical Smoothie, but do you have a mobile order. I replied no, I would like to place an order. His reply was "What do you want ", in a you are disturbing me tone. I asked him was that the way he spoke to a customer and you act as I'm asking disturbing you. I've been here a few times now, and it's a decent smoothie spot in the area. I like the deal where I can get an entree and tack on a smoothie for a reduced price. The smoothies are pretty large and taste OK, although I have to say they're kind of inconsistent - one day, a given smoothie will be pretty tasty, and then the next day, I'll get the same smoothie and it'll be kind of gross. The hot entrees are nothing to write home about, but I guess that's kind of expected since it's a chain that specializes in smoothies :) Overall, not the best smoothie out there, but worth trying at least once. read more

Very hit or miss experiences here. It is primarily staffed by local high school students, with the wildly inconsistent service that one would expect from that. The food is primarily pre-prepared ingredients heated up by "Chef Mike" and then assembled. The smoothies are generally good, but also occasionally awful. Sometimes they are nearly all ice. Unless you specify, they are always completely loaded with sugar. If you're coming in for a "healthy snack" or meal replacement, you're not doing yourself any favors here. So when they're on, the smoothies (even with half-sugar) are really quite good, but when they're off, you're essentially drinking colorful sugar water. read more

I've been to many smoothie places in Jersey and Philadelphia. Tropical Smoothie Cafe is one of my favorites. If I could rate this place on just their smooties, they would get 5 stars. They have a huge selection of smoothies I was very pleased with every single flavor I tried. I wish kitchen was more open so I can see them make the smoothie and see what exactly goes into it; but regarless, the taste is there, the size/ price is right, and I'm pretty sure there are no or at least minimal preservatives in it. However, when it comes to their food, they have to get 4 stars. The qaulity is great and everything that I tried completely met my expectations, I just feel like their flatbreads are overpriced for their size. And when you get the smootie + half sandwich combo, the half sandwich seemed very small too. So in my opinon, they need to come down on the price of food or make their portions just a little bit bigger. And lastly, their rewards card is a good idea, but having to make 20 visits until you get a free smoothie seems like way too many. read more

Several. Employees were NOT following proper health guidelines during Coronavirus. One young lady had a mask--but did not cover her face fully. Then a male employee put on gloves and a mask to bring out Curbside. After he came out of the kitchen he had NO MASK or gloves. Being a concerned resident I thanked them for keeping people happy with smoothies. Then I politely mentioned the health hazards of NO masks or gloves and asked if they could help keep people safe. The young woman laughed and went back in the kitchen- no mask. The gentleman broke social distancing by standing right behind the cashier without a mask or gloves. He had no response... just starred. We ordered the Bahama Mama and the a Sunrise Sunset, which is was able to add a B12 supplement to. We also got Artisan Tacos. We got the Roasted Chipotle Chicken and the Mojo Fish, both of which flavors complimented each other perfectly. Highly recommend! My daughters and I were excited about trying this place for the first time with a Groupon we bought. First of all, upon learning we were using a Groupon, the store manager re-entered all our purchases to charge us a higher price. He didn't want us to get a combo discount while using a Groupon, so essentially the prices were increased just for us. Then, though we told the cashier several times we are vegetarians and wanted the tofu replacement, my daughter's panini was still loaded with bacon and my rice bowl had chicken. It was awkward sending the food back, and the manager was really high strung and pushy and we feared he was going to argue with us. The overall vibe was bad: a little crooked, stressful, and certainly not customer-oriented.
