You can order ahead online, call in your order or order at the counter. The staff was super friendly & our order was just as we asked for. We got the Jove & a mild Italian. The seeded roll is delicious. Also--they cut the meat & cheese fresh to order--something missing at so many delis these days. The meat and cheese as well as all of the other toppings are GENEROUS portions & high quality. Little King's lettuce/onion/oil/vinegar/spice slaw is perfect & heavy on the flavor (and also another aspect of what so many hoagie shops do wrong these days). As of today we have a new hoagie shop! Overall, the food here is still very good, but the service is sufficiently poor that I don't think I'll ever come back. Here are a few reasons: 1) If you order online, the estimate given for when the food will be ready is pretty much always completely inaccurate. At this point, I've learned to just come ~15 minutes late, and even then sometimes it's not ready. Lunch from a sandwich shop is supposed to be a quick pick up, so when you have to wait around for 15 or even 20 minutes, it can get pretty frustrating. 2) A couple months back, I ordered a sandwich online and the order never went through, even though I received a confirmation email. I think this happened because Little King was switching to a new website design or something. Anyway, I went to go pick it up and they didn't have the food ready, wanted me to pay for the sandwich again (because they couldn't see it on their system), and told me that the money taken from my bank account would be refunded automatically since the order didn't go through. Of course, the money was not automatically refunded, so I was billed for a sandwich I never received. I did eventually work this out with the owner, but it was a frustrating experience. 3) Today, I ordered a sandwich online (the owner told me when I ordered last time that they'd be switching back to the old website and the orders would work fine). I arrived 15-20 minutes late (see point 1 above) and went to the counter to see if my food was ready. They initially told me that they didn't see my order but eventually found it and started it AFTER I arrived. So I ended up having to wait another ~15 minutes for them to finish my order, even though I arrived 15-20 minutes after the estimated pickup time provided in the email! All of this would have been sort of forgivable if they had apologized, but they didn't even do that! It's not like I'm asking for free stuff or something - I just want them to own that they messed up, especially since this sort of thing has happened multiple times in the past with my orders. Anyway, all that to say, I think I've finally learned my lesson and will not come back. The food is very tasty, but it's just not worth the hassle. read more

An update has been sorely overdue. I stray from here every once in awhile only to find I would have enjoyed my choices more from this shop. In fact the one fling I had was with a shop just slightly closer who also made a few of their own meats. They didn't have the staying power with almost half a dozen choices all within less than a mile. My two recent visits confirmed why this is still tops. The store made Turkey is my favorite, I almost got chicken salad but at the last second blurted out Turkey! Even the Swiss used is good. You have your choice of seeded or unseeded bread and rolls. I go with seeded as it's still very soft. Even with multiple orders the process runs very smoothly and a top wait time is usually around 5 min for me. Of note is the potato salad. It may be best in Mercer county and if you have another fav let me know. I just tried the Mac salad too and the same can be said about it. My big regret every time I come here is to not try something new. Their Jove could be the one I needed to see to venture away from Turkey. It's a spicy Italian style that sounds amazing. Also in the should have category was the lasagna soup. Customer service is friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a few extra minutes drive. read more

Yes Viginia, there is a Santa Claus, and his name is The Jove! I grew up in Hamilton Twp., and Little King was my very first hoagie, ever. I'm 54 and they have been my go-to for the past 45 years or so. I've heard the hype about the 50th anniversary sandwich called The Jove, but I always seem to end up with my tried and true Italian whenever I go. Today, I decided to take the plunge, and let me tell you, it was worth it! This sandwich is incredible (don't let my poor photography skills sway you). If you are a fan of Italian delicacy meats, fresh mozzarella, sharp provolone, roasted red peppers, aged balsamic all on a toasted garlic roll, then this is the sandwich for you! Each bite is like a symphony of goodness in our mouth. It takes you to heights that you didn't know were possible, (ok, am I over doing it?? NO!). I know people will think that I work for Little King, or I am getting something for writing this, but I assure that I do not, and am not! It's just a really good sandwich, that's all. read more

Conveniently placed right off of Rt 33, Little King is an old, small sandwich shop with enough menu options to entertain all tastes. I went with the Sharp Italian, featuring Prosciutto, Genoa Salami, Capicola & Sharp Provolone, with the standard lettuce, tomato and onion. Little King uses a much softer roll than most other delis in Trenton, but has some solid meats and cheese to go on their hoagies. Overall, I loved the fillings of this hoagie but the roll was not my favorite. Far too soft compared to my favorites in the area. Though, the menu selection and quality meats is enough to bring me back in the future. read more

What makes a sandwich place great is, I argue, somewhat of a mystery. The vast majority of sub shops get their meat and produce from the same places and assemble the same kinds of sandwiches. Differences between sub shops is often one of degree rather than kind. The mid-Atlantic region isn't hurting for hoagies. Even Wawa can make a decent sandwich when the hour is right (usually around 2am). Why, then, do I love Little King? The place is the last of a failed franchise tied to a comic strip that no one remembers or reads. An old sign outside reads, "where a sandwich is a complete meal." Not exactly the punchiest slogan but its literalism always cracks me up. The interior features drawings from the Little King comic strip, adding to the mystery. You feel like you've found something forbidden or forgotten and I'm all in for that vibe. Despite franchise failure, Little King also offers some of the finest sandwiches in the area. All the meats are sliced paper thin to order. When draped over the excellent bread, the resulting sandwich becomes as close to a work of art as a hoagie can be. I usually stick to the South Jersey Italian, which hits all the sweet spots for me (hot pepper spread should be put on everything). I always feel bad for the people who work there because the 3 times I have been, it's always super warm in there. One star left off as the employees are just very unfriendly. Never a pleasant greeting or say have a great day. Good customer service always goes a long way. They also had specials on the board but when asked for one, they said they haven't updated the board and none of the specials but one was available. Kinda bummed me out as it sounded very good. When I called to place an order for a six foot sub for a future party, I couldn't come in any time soon since I don't live in the area so whoever I spoke with over the phone asked me for my credit card number to put a deposit on the sandwich. I've had no issues with paying for things over the phone with other businesses, until now. I checked my credit card transactions and someone had been ordering pizzas in Hamilton on my card via Doordash and at Pizza Hut. I canceled the card and wasn't liable for these fraudulent charges. Day of the party when I went to go pick up the sandwich, I noticed that my credit card information including cc #, expiration date and cvc # were written on a slip that had been in plain sight for weeks since I'd placed the order over the phone. Also, I never saw a deposit charge on my card for this order. We ended up paying for it in cash and left without saying anything since we had more running around to do.
