I ordered a chicken and cheese quesadilla and a Blueberry Bliss smoothie, and both were extremely disappointing. The smoothie tasted watered down and almost flavorless. It's supposed to have bananas in it, but there was absolutely no banana taste whatsoever. The quesadilla was even worse. It was basically empty. Each piece had maybe two tiny pieces of chicken, and the cheese didn't even cover the whole thing. It felt like I was paying full price for something thrown together with barely any effort or ingredients. For how expensive it is, this is honestly ridiculous. Always understaffed by the looks, and does not meet timing promises. I had an Uber Eats order that got cancelled by two drivers. Then finally after further investigation I found out it was cancelled by the merchant. This seemingly happened because they were too busy. Further more I called them and asked if they had my order, the manager replied and said they couldn't even find it in the system. She said "we got asked about that one a couple times, but couldn't even find it in our system." How do you not find it in your system if only the store and customer can cancel...? read more

I enjoyed my jerk chicken wrap and my family enjoyed their turkey bacon wrap and three cheese chicken Dilla. The premium kale side was not good, too much sweet mayo on it. This restaurant has drastically gone downhill the past couple years. Used to be a manager here, so I can't understand how the standard has gone down so much. Every time I pull up anymore it takes more than 15 minutes for an easy order at sub par quality. Today there were only two cars in front of us in the drive through and the lady who answered the intercom said they were on a "15 minute wait" because they had "a lot of orders". The food is not good and never has been. Smoothies used to be good, but we stopped ordering boosts because about 50% of the time, they'd just add a multivitamin boost rather than what we actually ordered, which makes the whole thing taste gross. It got better for a while after we stopped ordering boosts, but now they don't blend the smoothies properly anymore. There's grainy, chunks of ice in the smoothie almost every time, and it just completely ruins it. We are at the point now where I think we will just make our own at home from now on. This place used to be a treat, but now it's just bad 90% of the time. I think they just don't properly train the employees and/or don't care if the drinks are made right, which is a shame. The menu features a variety of smoothies, sandwich flat breads, sandwich wraps, salads, breakfast wraps and kids smoothies menu. We ordered the Carribbean jerk chicken​ wrap and the Hawaiian barbecue chicken Flatbread. These were tasty and fresh, but in our humble opinion just average in taste and appearance. Portion size ok , prices reasonable. Menu choices nice to go with an order of smoothies which we would order on another visit. Staff was friendly. With our order we could pick a side of fruit such as an orange or an apple, pkg. of baked chips or side of tangy citrus coleslaw or kale apple slaw. Since I don't eat bread my order was over some greens instead of the flat bread. A nice place for smoothie lovers and vegetarian choices as well. read more

Our family of 6 LOVES Tropical Smoothie Cafe. We are weekly customers. I will grab a smoothie if a forgot breakfast or didnt have time to eat lunch. It's one of the very few places were all 4 kids (teens) are happy to eat. I have always found the restaurant to be very clean. The staff followed the covid policies during the covid pandemic. We have had some issues and I reported them directly to the owner. He cares about his business and wants everyone to have a good experience. The biggest issue I have found is they are seriously short staffed. So it can take up to 30 minutes to get your order. There can be cars lined up out of the parking lot and backing up Port Republic. This doesn't happen often. Frankly, for us its worth the wait. I have celiac and I can eat here without any problems. I cant do that at any other fast food place. I also like that its a much healthier option. We have always found our orders to be fresh. (Ultimate Club, quesadillas, bowls). We have tried almost all their smoothies. We have tried almost all of their smoothies and have yet to find one that isnt good. Granted, we each have our favorites. read more

I was about 4-5 hours into my drive back to NJ and had actually been planning to get pho at the place near here for dinner, but it was closed and I was hungry, so I was left scouting for something nearby that was open! Tis a good thing, as this was an awesome discovery! I got one of the green smoothies along with the Caribbean jerk chicken bowl. It's a tad bit pricey but both were all sorts of delicious and just what I needed to finish off my mini-weekend road trip back! They have a parking area and a drive-thru. (I walked in though, so I can't comment on the drive-thru speed!) The interior is clean, brightly lit and spacious. Service is very pleasant and super quick! Gave them another shot today. Went thru drive thru for one smoothie, one car ahead of me and parking lot empty... was feeling good about how quick the service would be. Waited 5+ min before the car in front of me was acknowledged by the staff and told they'd be "with them in a min." 10 min later they took their order and then mine right away. 15 min later the smoothies came out of the window. No apology and with my smoothie sitting there for a while a fair amount of melt on the top. This is a smoothie... throw stuff in a blender and push a button, not difficult. I make them at home daily. Currently been sitting in drive-thru for 20 minutes and haven't moved even a foot. Cars behind us are beeping, but we can't move up for them to order. We haven't moved in 15 minutes and my kid is going to be late for practice at this point. There are only 4 or 5 cars in line, come on! Sign says lobby is closed due to covid or else I'd just go inside. Not really sure what to do. Can't even back up to leave because we're stuck in the line that isn't moving. I love Tropical Smoothie. Their smoothies are fantastic. Super sweet. This specific Tropical Smoothie has sweet and swift service that always provides me with a delicious smoothie. The food, however, is not always on point. It looks kind of sloppy and doesn't taste nearly as good as the smoothies. They have a fantastic happy hour deal from 7-9 am on weekdays that sells smoothies for ~$3 and it is a great deal. If I were you, I would take advantage of that deal and snag a delicious smoothie in the morning for a quick breakfast. read more

I like their smoothies a lot but if you go here avoid the food. I ate here for the first time a few months ago and about two hours later I was hugging the toilet because I got food poisoning. I avoided eating there for a while but tried the food again today and about two hours later I got sick again. Just placed an order for two sandwiches from here through uber eats and only received one. After realizing this mistake I called Tropical Smoothie to see if they could send out my other sandwich as my very lovely uber eats driver had gone back to the restaurant. The woman on the phone was very helpful and empathetic, but from the screaming in the background it appeared that her managers did not feel the same. On the uber receipt it clearly states that two sandwiches were ordered, however at Tropical Smoothie they insisted that I was only charged for one. Lies. The woman on the phone even admitted to making both sandwiches. They told me I could come in with a receipt for a free sandwich another time but I am a freshman at JMU and do not have a car, hence the uber eats purchase. This whole experience was extremely frustrating and inconvenient for mediocre food. Even though this was clearly Tropical Smoothie's fault, they did not compensate us at all. After all this, when the sandwich was finally delivered, the sides were wrong. This establishment is pathetic and embarrassing, I will not be taking my business here anymore.
