    Caribbean Jerk Chicken Bowl
    J E.

Stopped in with co-workers on a weekday, and the first ting we noticed (and commented to each other on a bit) was the awful, burnt-food smell inside. (Incidentally, it smelled like this a lot when it was previously open, before being renovated.) The new inside loked bright and open, which was slightly nicer than the way it used to look. The lady who took our order smiled, but really didn't seem to understand what e were saying/asking or wasn't paying attention... I asked about the bowl and what was in it and the only response I got was "the bowl?" So, I figured I wasn't going to get my question answered and just ordered it. Giving my name was a mess, she only put in a couple of letters from the name. A co-worker ordered next and I heard a lot of the same... couldn't answer questions, didn't heard half of what was being said/asked, so they just ordered. Bottom line - She might be friendly, but she definitely needs to be trained better to work the front! The food was just OK... the lettuce in the bowl was mostly wilted. I could see the chicken being prepared and it appears to be simply re-heated in a convection or microwave. The flavors were decent. None of the other staff offered any amount of pleasant personality or good customer service... Both of the girls who gave us food/drinks simply called a name and when we started walking up to the counter, dropped it on the counter and walked off. I realize it's tough to find good staff who knows how to provide good service (and based on so many of the other reviews I've read about this place), but better training and having management actually there to drive the business properly might be in order. Either way, I've not been here in several years and I'm not returning.

Proof that I said no bacon

I'm giving this one star because of the egregious and unprofessional behavior displayed by your manager. I ordered lunch through the app. A detox Island Green with a Beach Club salad no bacon. I picked it up curbside and was multitasking at the time so didn't have time to check me order. When I get my order home it has bacon on it. So I called and immediately was met with a combative "manager" she was more concerned with proving me wrong and that I made the mistake. Even after telling her I checked my order on the App to confirm I didn't male the error. She insisted what the computer printed out was what I order. Reiterated I did not and why is this even an argument. I have no reason to lie about any of this. She then agreed to remake my salad when I bring it back. When I arrived in the restaurant the manager is still being combative telling me they didn't make the mistake. I insisted that I didn't either and why do you insist on arguing about it If you agreed to remake it. She then went to the back printed the receipt that said no Parmesan I guess to prove me wrong. I didn't care what the receipt said I know what I ordered. I didn't know how to work the app well enough to find my order history at the time and further more didn't have time to figure it out as I was already late for a meeting. I said again why are we arguing this you agreed to remake the salad just remake the salad to which she replies we wouldn't usually do this because we didn't make the mistake. Of course I got home had the time to play around with the app when I'm less frustrated and angry and low and behold proof from the app that I order no bacon. She was the most belligerent combative rude "manager" I've ever encountered in a customer facing business. I was appalled and will not be ordering from this Cafe ever again!

Update March 29, 2015 The new manager sent me a satisfying apology message through Yelp. That's what a good manager should do. My girls and I visited the Galveston Court Tropical Smoothie again this past Friday and enjoyed our usual order. Our smoothies were well made and the staff was professional. I think the manager might have actually been present in the restaurant which probably created a more professional environment. Is 44 Cents Worth Losing a Customer for Life? My little girls and I are (were) frequent customers at the Tropical Smoothie on Galveston Court. The girls like the Orange Dream and I like the Island Green. We get smoothies a lot. Most times, I receive excellent customer service. For example, the two separate occasions that my 3 year old dropped her freshly made smoothie on the floor and the employees cheerfully mopped it up and graciously replaced it free of charge were wonderful experiences. Perhaps because I have had good experiences in the past I was stunned by my experience today: The line to place an order reached almost to the door on this beautiful Saturday afternoon, but my girls, ages 3 and 7, stood in line because they really wanted a smoothie. Our turn finally arrived and I placed our usual order - one Awesome Orange (the child-sized version of the Orange Dream) for my 3 year old, an Orange Dream for my 7 year old, and an Island Green for me. The total was $12.69. I had $12.25 on me. "Isn't my order normally less than $12?" I said. The young woman behind the counter responded with something like "Well, you usually get 2 Awesome Oranges for the girls, not one Awesome Orange and one Orange Dream." She was right. I usually get the girls the 12 ounce smoothies but my 7 year old is getting bigger and today I got her the grown up 24 ounce version. (Note that we are such regular customers that the cashier knew our usual order by heart). I explained to the cashier that I only had $12.25 on me and, since the line stretched to the door again, could she simply place the order and let me run to the car for an extra dollar? "I can't close the order without payment" the cashier said. I stared at the tip jar overflowing with coins and one dollar bills and I thought about asking her if I could borrow one and replace it quickly....but I didn't. I would be too embarrassed if she said "No." Horrified in front of my children and the long line of adults behind me, I asked the cashier to remove my Island Green from the order and just keep my children's smoothies. Then I went back out to the car for my 44 cents so I could order my own smoothie. The girls and I waited in line....again...got our smoothies, and left. After I got my Island Green my 7 year old kept looking at me. She knew something was wrong. "Are you mad, mommy?" my 7 year old kept asking. I told her that I was embarrassed, which kind of feels like anger, but it's a little different. I told my little girl that what she had just seen was an example of terrible service to a loyal customer. There are many things the Tropical Smoothie cashier could have done to spare me from being embarrassed in front of my children and the other customers. The cashier could have completed my order and let me give her the extra 44 cents when I picked up the smoothies. Or, she could have borrowed 44 cents from the overflowing tip jar and allowed me to replace it when I came back with the money from the car. I would have gladly replaced that 44 cents with several dollars in appreciation. But the cashier did none of those things. I was humiliated and had to stand in line again. The experience was very embarrassing especially because I was a regular customer. Subjecting someone to public humiliation is a good way to ruin relationships, both personal and professional. Now I am considering buying that $200 Ninja blender at BJ's because I know I'm not going back to Tropical Smoothie even if I do absolutely love their Island Green. Note: The photo of 2 receipts side by side on the main Tropical Smoothie page is mine.

Pretty average tropical smoothie. No complaints for me here. Always clean and friendly staff. Bahama Mama is the bomb.

Smoothies we're good but the customer service was horrible. They gave orders to random people and they had to remake our order.

I had heard about the Crimson Coward when it first came to town. It seems like a very…read morewell-established name, with decent food offerings. It sits right across the street from one of my top 5 favorite fried chicken shops, Nash & Smashed. They have some decent competition - That's what I thought before I stopped in. I am very thankful to the Crimson Coward chain for offering a $5 discounted meal for first-time visitors! I ordered the 4 piece tenders, in country style (no heat). My body seems to be that of a crybaby when it comes to handling spice. I ordered the food just after they opened, at 11:06, thru their online storefront (website). I arrived to pick up the food at around 11:20. They were just packaging it up to go out the door, and I was the only one in the restaurant. I'm sure if there was a line or quite a few more orders it would have taken longer. The food was packed in a small folding box (just like KFC style), but contained no napkins - so be sure to grab those before you go! The chicken was moist, tender, and juicy! The breading was thin, yet slightly crunchy. It seems that they make this perfectly! My compliments to the crew. It was done very well. The tenders were as big as my hands, and just as thick! They were quite large! I'm not sure I've ever seen tenders quite so big, that weren't 50+% breading alone. But no - these were genuinely large - They must have been the beast of a chicken yard. Tender. Juicy. Perfection. You get 4 slices of pickle with the meal, and for a pickle-lover like me that was great! They're not terrible high-class tasting, like a Claussen-brand pickle, and have a hint of bread-n-butter taste to them, but they're decent! But, the reason for the score being as it is, is because the flavor profile didn't fit to the fireworks sparkle that hit the chicken towards a home run. The seasoning landed a bit short, and flat. I was expecting a myriad of blended herbs and spices to match the exquisite look and tenderness of the chicken - but it never came. I couldn't tell you what herb or spice it was that felt so strongly, but there was one element in the spice package that dominated everything else, and just fills the nose and mouth with that one flavor over all else. It's not a bad taste by any means. It was quite enjoyable as-is, but it's nothing overtly special to write back home about. I wouldn't travel from far just to get this chicken. One other thing that bothered me was that they seemed to offer mac & cheese with other things mixed in but yet not the mac & cheese by itself on the side. Yet, you can get slaw, onions, pickles, and all these other condiments and flavors by themselves - just not mac & cheese alone. Sad! A terribly missed profit-maker for sure... If there's one thing people want with good fried chicken it's mac & cheese! I believe that's written in soul food lore somewhere... Lastly, the sauces that came with the food -- You can pick your own, and by default I went with the Crimson Sauce, and ranch. The ranch fell a bit flat. It's not an expensive or savory ranch; it's just a bottom of the barrel 2D ranch. No eccentric savory flavors, or myriad of tastes. There was clearly no buttermilk in it either, it just felt a bit sad. That's not to say it wasn't good, but it left me longing for a bit more. The Crimson sauce was good. It had a tiny bit of heat -- similar to something like your average green peppers, or mildly spicy fresh-made salsa would give off. Something your old-school no-spice white granny could order and eat with no complaining. The sauce was good and flavorful. Between the 4 tenders, 1 cup of ranch, and 1 cup of crimson sauce, I finished my meal just as the sauce cups were being wiped empty with the last bit of chicken meat. A refreshing and enjoyable experience, but nothing to drive out of your way for. I enjoyed the meal, and would come back - but I wouldn't go craving it once a week for the rest of my life. Good for a passing meal when you're sick of eating the same ol' Taco Bell, KFC, Chipotle, or McDonald's meals, and want to change it up a bit.

There wasn't anything that I ate where I feel I would crave it. You order at a counter and they call your number when it is ready Super casual. Would I come back? Sure. I had nothing really to complain about. I had the mild chicken tenders. My daughter got a spicer sandwich and she was pleased. Fries are good. There was a sauce that came with it that was good. Limited Pepsi products and a couple of juices in their fountain machine. They also had some basic flavored milkshakes. Lots of tables for 2 people and only 1 table that sits four. The portions are more than generous in fact my only regret was not ordering a kids meal for myself.
