Now I've only been here once and the experience was not good at all. Seems like these young people who work in these places don't have common sense or common courtesy for customers. First off when I walk up to the cash register the girl behind the counter doesn't say hello or anything to me. Mind you this is my first time EVER in a tropical smoothie establishment. I made my order and she still never said anything...unprofessional as hell. Then a couple of the females who work there start getting into it while the customers waiting on our order. So I'm waiting and wondering why someone who came after me go there smoothie before me. Thank God the one worker who had some sense and was nice found my smoothie that was put in the wrong place. Very ghetto only saving grace it's really close to my house and the smoothie was really good. Maybe next time I'll make an order in my car and then go pick it up. I'd seen this franchise sprinkled around, but never ventured inside. I went on a liquid fast became very acquainted with Tropical Smoothie Cafe. First of all, I never knew they served food. I'd always assumed that it was all smoothies. Mind... blown. I haven't tried the food yet, but it's good to know it's available. The customer service is solid. The place is clean. This place can get crowded at peak hours, so I recommend ordering ahead. As for the smoothies, they are delicious. My go-to is the Chia Banana Boost with peanut butter (or strawberry). I've also had the Avocolada and the Orange Ginger Glow. The smoothies are stellar, but here's the catch... One day I noticed on the menu that each smoothie is made with "Turbinado". I had no clue what that was, but it sounded cool. Thing is... "cool" is something I prefer more in a video game than in my food because "cool" is usually some chemical or supplement that could kill me. So I looked it up. Turns out that turbinado is natural raw sugar, and they give you a lot. Fortunately, they give you the option to do half turbinado or none at all. My suggestion is to go half or no sugar if you're trying to keep it healthy. I look forward to visiting more and trying food. This relatively new eatery is a shining star at Iverson Mall. We know that's not much of an accomplishment, but definitely go check them out. read more

I typically go the the NE DC location or the new King Street location near my job. The Branch Ave location was along my route to the hair salon. I'm sorry to say that my food and smoothie were awful on 6/11. I ordered the Jetty Jr which came in a regular sized cup and tasted like pure water. The color was so pale, I knew it was mostly ice. I ordered the jerk chicken wrap. The tortilla was not properly wrapped and the paper around the wrap was completely opened. So they basically just threw it in the bag. When I got to my destination and opened the bag, I could all the contents of the wrap. Very sloppy rush job. It's bad enough you gotta deal with the disgusting parking lot and ppl loitering in front of the business. At least the food could be good. So mad I wasted a reward on this meal read more

This the second time my husband and I ordered from this location,...and they just can't seem to get it right. We gave them credit for their first mistake because we received someone else's order whose name is also Stacey, so we chalked that up as an oversight. But this time around, it was obviously a blatant mistake being that we order two Thai Chicken Salads with a side of Maple Kissed Sweet Potatoes with an extra order. Now upon receiving our order which was delivered through Postmates/UberEats, we noticed they sent us two salads with NO DRESSING, and omitted our extra sweet potatoes. The only thing they got correct were the Starfruit Smoothies which was very refreshing. So my husband called the establishment to speak to the manager, and he is still waiting as I am writing this review. Located in a strip mall, Tropical Smoothie Cafe was one of the closest places I could drive to without trying to battle it out for parking (hello, Navy Yard!). The surrounding businesses, like Chipotle and some Italian place, look new as does the Tropical Smoothie Cafe building. I originally ordered on Uber Eats only to have my order canceled at the time it was scheduled to be delivered! I still went through and decided to pick up my food. I ordered a buffalo chicken bowl. Both the buffalo sauce and the ranch came on the side. It was all nicely packaged with napkins and silverware. For the price, $7.50ish, I was not expecting much and expectations were pretty much met. Not a lot of complexity-iceberg lettuce (bleh), diced tomatoes, some kind of shredded mozzarella (?) cheese, and grilled chicken. The portion was pretty small too. I was super starving so I grudgingly ate it, but I doubt I'd return for a follow-up meal. read more

I love their smoothies. My first visit was at another location. I ordered online and when I got there. I received Everything in an orderly fashion. I appreciated the service on I Street NW DC. So I tried this location, and received a similar, yet different experience. I came here twice, both online orders, both times they were extremely busy, during lunch rush. The first time, they had my food ready, but it was missing several items. The second time, I received a notification saying my smoothie was ready, but when I went in, it wasn't and I had to wait at least 10 minutes before my ticket was found. I really am not the type of customer to complain. I really didn't want to write this review but I am fed up! EVERY SINGLE TIME I come to this location, I experience a problem. I love the tropical smoothie cafe franchise, I really do, but this location does not hold its own. From waiting a ridiculously long time for my smoothies just to find out they have been already made and just sitting to my order being wrong multiple times. Maybe it's the combination of online and in-store orders but the flow is not working or simply the lack of reading comprehension skills the employees have. Either way, I am no longer returning to this location which is disappointing because it's the closest to my home. I can't take it anymore! So I went in for my first time ever.. lost my "tropical smoothie virginity" lol. I ordered the Caribbean jerk chicken wrap with a bahama mama smoothie. I took a sip of the drink & it was bomb. I ate half of my wrap waited 1 minute after I ate that half and my mouth was definitely feeling the jerk seasonings. Let's just say don't order that entree without a drink. By the time I was done the other half my nose was running. The overall meal was delicious and I highly recommend this combination. I've experienced multiple incorrect orders, missing items, 2-hour delays with delivery... You name it. They need to do a better job of quality assurance and in-store management when it comes to deliveries. I have had some really good smoothies from this place but on Wednesday I brought a smoothie for my 3 year old grandson a jetty junior and when he got home from daycare I rewarded him with the smoothie. He said grandma my smoothie is nasty here you drink it. So I tasted his smoothie because I had them add kale to it and he was so right. It was so sweet even I and his dad could not drink it. You would think since this smoothie is listed on the menu for children they would not put that much sweetener in it. Tip to this establishment, use 1/2 or less of the sweetener in smoothies for children. When his mom got home she added more crushed ice but that didn't work so we had to throw it away. Trying to support this location, but it's hard when the worker fixing my order goes to get ice & gets distracted with trying to find a song to play for the store. So my smoothie had to wait for ice & my time didn't seem to matter to the worker, as the customer that came in AFTER had her smoothie & out the door. Shot she even had a minute to sit down. Smoothies here are divine! Noticed they just added a watermelon mojito to their menu? I've so far tried the watermelon mojito, bahama mama, avocolada, sunshine smoothie, and eventually will be trying every smoothie on the list! They also sell wraps and salads here, and this place is a LOT better compared to Smoothie King (which I feel like uses canned/aged fruit & artificial flavoring?). Absolutely the worst location ever. It took a whole hour to get my smoothie. I waited in line for 10 minutes to order nobody was assisting the line. I placed my order online thinking it would make a difference. As I still continued to wait. They tried to give another customer a watered down smoothie after she had been standing there waiting for her order nobody ever said anything or called out order. She asked for it to be made over and they made her wait for 20 minutes just to make hers over. Atleast 6 other people were waiting along with me for our orders. We were the only ones there. They didn't have many orders on their order screen. They moved with no urgency or drive. The absolute worst customer service I have ever experience. For a SMOOTHIE. Wow. And their fruits didn't even look to fresh. The bananas were brown. If I could give negative stars I would. I literally could have went to the grocery store, went home, made everyones smoothie who were waiting and dropped it back off to them before we got our smoothies. Sad. read more

As much as i really did not want to give them a bad review. I won't. I'll just describe my personal experience working there instead. So i got hired June 11. I did not start my real training where somebody was actually showing me what do to as far as the responsibilities of my job until June 21st... Today is July 11th and i woke up to a call from the guy David who is the manager or i really couldn't tell yall his title because i really don't know exactly. I just know he's supposed to be a manager him and his girlfriend. Today i woke up to a call from David saying they was sorry that they had to let me go. Til this very moment i still have no real reason from them why they are firing me. Just yesterday David told me that he wanted to make sure i was proficient in my job before they started to give me more hours. Honestly, i thought i was doing good. David or his gf Alesha have not been on the clock or even in the building on the days that i had to work. So as i was working i asked the shift leaders/managers that actually were there if i was doing okay, they said i was. It's not rocket science to prepare food correctly or have good customer service skills in which i was complimented on just yesterday by a nice customer who was elderly. I did my job and beyond tho i was never ever given instructions on what to do when i walked into work. I would just get on the food station because i knew that was my station. When it was slow in there instead of just standing around, i swept the floor i even swept the lobby floor which was another persons job although i didn't know that i just knew the floor was dirty and the manager Tim called me back to the kitchen floor because it was somebody else that was supposed to be sweeping he was not upset with me more like he was glad to see me do my job and beyond but if he was mad it was because the guy that was supposed to be sweeping the floor was standing at the register on his phone. I love all my sisters and brothers but our race will never get ahead. Stepping on each other toes for no reason at all. They barely gave me a chance. I rather they had not hired me in the first place. I just started really working June 21. And got fired June 11th. Nobody ever evaluated me on how good i was or was not doing, i was never told what i needed to improve on or nothing. The guy David just literally said that he wanted to see me doing better on food but neither one of them, him or Alesha has been there to see how good i was or was not doing. And the other managers said i was doing good. I really needed this job..it's discouraging and i really didn't see it coming that's why i say they stepped on my toes because David just said yesterday that he just wanted to see what i could or could not do before he gave me more hours than i was getting then all of sudden out of the blue not even 24 hours later after he says that he calls me up on my phone twice in the morning to fire me. Also, i have never been employed by a job that fires you over the phone. Or accidentally slips out a curse word in the interview, not him but Alesha. Or a job that pays you with a personal check, regardless of the reason. I advise anyone that really needs a job to NOT apply here because apparently they will fire you for no real reason at all. read more
