This place was alright but credit to a delicious mofongo! Everything came out on paper plates, plastic cups, and also a red solo cup. That seems to be different than all the images i see here. A local friend recommended this spot and warned us that it's in the back of some Shops. We had to go follow some signs to find the restaurant. It was airy and colorful and just the right size. Located in the back of a store, this was my first full meal in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The space was cute and cozy with a decent amount of seating. I ordered a non alcoholic Pina Colada, as well as Bacaolitos ($8) and Trifongo with fried pork and onions ($16). The Pina Colada was topped with whipped cream and a cherry. It was perfectly thick, sweet, creamy, and refreshing. The Bacaolitos were satisfyingly crispy and well seasoned. It was my first time trying Trifongo, which is similar to Mofongo, consisting of plantains, yucca, and sweet plantains. This was absolutely delicious! The combination of the ingredients were just right and it was packed with delightful flavor, tasting of garlic and savory seasoning. The Fried Pork was wonderfully crunchy, juicy, and well seasoned. If you are in called del Cristo and looking for good food. This is your place. If u want a nice ambiance with fun or romantic vibe this is not ur place. But if u are in only for the food then this is ur joint. It is hidden behind a store. At first glance the place did not elicit a lot of confidence. But we got the shrimp with criollo sauce with the yellow rice and the grilled sweet plantains. Man it was delicious. The shrimp was super tender and the sauce was a bit spicy and goes so well w the rice. We just scooped it up. The food was good solid portion. It was more than enough for me and my wife. Had lunch here with friends after I saw it recommended a few times online. Getting to the restaurant- which is in the back of a shop was interesting but not difficult. Don't let it put you off! WOW! What a find, and we would have never found it without the help of Yelp. Thank you Yelp! In old town San Juan. It had the highest Yelp Rating for lunch so we went for it. Very basic - it's in the back of a gift shop! Super friendly and hardworking staff. I think I may have had the best chicken and creole sauce of my life there. Wow. When they say they have the best mofongo. They aren't lying. We came here after the free walking tour of old San Juan. The drinks are strong. I can't say I understand the reviews about this restaurant being in a back of a store - when we went, there were clear signs and it was super easy to find and it also takes 2 seconds to ask someone. The spot is casual but I liked that they have a list of Puerto Rican slang as part of their decor and define a bunch of terms. The service was also great and they encouraged me to practice my rusty Spanish. On to the most important thing--food! The food was delicious. We got an order of the tostones in criollo sauce with chicken and it was so good. We also got the mofongo with pulpo and the spicy criollo sauce. Ironically, there is a sign near the host front desk of the actual restaurant that says: "Family friendly restaurant." Pulpo in spicy criolla sauce with rice and beans: A. Tropic taste was the most authentic food we had on the trip. However, the service unfortunately fell short. It took over an hour and a half for our food to arrive after placing the order, leaving us frustrated and hungry. The appetizer came out with the food so ordering that in advance was no help. When the food finally came out, 2 out of the 6 meals we ordered were missing. Finally, after an additional 30 minutes of waiting, we flagged down the server and asked for a refund for the missing meals. The server informed us that the food had been mistakenly delivered to another table and was ready in the kitchen. By this point, we made the decision to leave.
